THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS: Nick Reflects on His Love Story with Sharon, Being Victor and Nikki’s Son, in Joshua Morrow’s 30-Year Milestone Episode

On Friday’s June 21st episode of The Young and the Restless, the top-rated soap delivered Joshua Morrow’s 30th anniversary episode as Nick Newman.

The show utilized plenty of clips from the past (as had been promoted) as a look back from the teenage Nick who grew into the man he is today. At the epicenter of the storytelling vehicle, the show decided to tell most of it through the ups and downs of Nick’s love story with Sharon (Sharon Case).

In the present, the two are together getting ready to welcome home their daughter, Faith (Reylynn Caster), who has been abroad. When she returns, she breaks down in tears. She informs her parents that Moses broke-up with her. Faith says she plans on never falling in love again and is impressed that her parents still get along after splitting up “a zillion times.”

Nick chimes in it wasn’t all bad, there were some good times too. Cue the clips and we go to a young Sharon and Nick about to go skinny-dipping on a tropical island.  All of sudden, Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) arrive and then sit down and join the trip down memory lane, wanting to hear all about Sharon and Nick’s past.

From there, we get moments from the Matt Clark (Eddie Cibrian) story and murder, Sharon sleeping with Diego, and Nick sleeping with Grace and then Sharon asking for a divorce, how Cassie came into their lives, and how Nick accepted her as his own daughter.

In two pivotal moments, Nick reflects back at Cassie’s death and how Victoria (Amelia Heinle) came to try to comfort him, but he could not cope with the loss and turned to Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Later, there is the confrontation scene where Sharon tells Nick she knows he has been having an affair with her arch enemy.

Eventually, Sharon tells Faith, Tessa and Mariah, how before Cassie died, she had the premonition that she and Nick would have another little girl, and that turned out to be Faith. Sharon and Nick recall their ‘almost wedding, where she slapped him at the altar. Even through all of this, they explain to the young woman that they still share a lot of love between them.

At the end of the episode, Nick comes by to see his parents, Victor and Nikki. At first, he comes upon a photo of his sister, Victoria. Nick remembers seeing her again and welcoming her back to Genoa City (and when Amelia Heinle took over the role), and when Nick and Victoria shared a classic sibling moment before her wedding to Billy.

Next, Nick’s parents, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) walk-in. They sit down and Nick says there is something he needs to say to them. It is then where it felt to us, that Joshua was speaking to Melody and Eric, just as Nick wouspeak to Nikki and Victor.

With tears in his eyes, Nick says that he wants them both to know how much he loves them and how indebted he is for the life they’ve given him. Nikki asks where is all this coming from? Nick reveals that he and Sharon told Faith the good and bad of their relationship and it reminded him of some of the mistakes he’s made.

Reflective, Nick says he hopes he has become wiser in the process. In the touching final moments, Nick tells his parents that he couldn’t have asked for better role models. Victor says they couldn’t have asked for a better son as Nikki holds Nick’s hand tightly. The camera pans up to a few photos of Nick through the years that are with his parents.

What did you think of the special episode in honor of Joshua Morrow for his 30 years as Nick Newman? Comment below.

You could definitely tell he was speaking as Josh Morrow to EB & MTS. It’s almost like the show let Josh Morrow write those lines or at least was asked what he wanted to say. It was nicely done.

I completely agree with you DAJ. I was thinking the same thing at the final scene as well. Wonderful episode. Now if only the writers could come up with a new kind of pairing for Nick and Sharon. Not necessarily where they rekindle their romantic history, because by the way they were speaking the other day I am thinking that ship has sailed. I was hoping they could show more of Sharon and her new business. It would be nice to have Sharon do more than dispense free counseling at the coffee house. I know Nick is at Newman with Adam for now. It would be nice to have him with Sharon for a bit for a change of pace. Or maybe they can finally take Christian out of hiding and actually give him a real life. I am sure he now beyond the age of babysitter’s and bedtime stories. Let him start bonding with his cousin Johnny and see what mischief they can get into.

They had great chemistry Case can move on she has the gift /morrow had it also with Phyllis /MS I as a viewer stopped watching five years ago I think the writing is sloppy and you have some gifted actors you have set aside for whatever reasons . You can’t recaptured the magic of years ago it’s not there glad he had a good run now it’s nothing more then who he can sleep with next

I’ve always heard that men look better as they age. That’s certainly true of Josh. Yeah, he was always cute but the last ten years he really looks scaldingly hot. The smile, the physique, that gorgeous lush hair you could get lost in have all gotten better. I wish he’d lose those scraggly grey beard hairs but you can’t have it all. And I love his new peace with Adam…hope it sticks. Especially since Victoria and Nikki are so hypocritically cruel to him.

I sure agree with you and Nick deserves someone great. Didn’t care for him and Sally. It seems like whenever they get someone that really goes good with him, they get rid of her, i.e Christian’s mom Sage and Phyllis’s sister, whose name I can’t remember.

Violet…Phyllis’s sister is Avery Bailey Clark (who is an attorney).

Agreed!
Didn’t care for Sally and him as we all knew it wouldn’t stick due to Adam ditto Chelsea. I thought the time could’ve been perfect if Avery came home to defend Phyliss last year since I really like her and Nick together. Sage was great too with him. Both beautiful talented actresses

So what set is Case going to burn down since JG is going to have her go nuts again? When does the madness stop? No offense but JM throws a tantrum when ever he does not get his way remember when MY was writing and JM did not want to be paired with Case again hey he got a huge home set and a office set . Crazy crap

I think they want to get Nick and Sharon together again, and now her Bi-Polar will be kicking up again, we know Nick will be right there for support. I have to say, I like that idea better than he and Phylliss. I held my breath when she was going upstairs to her room, thinking, to Nick, don’t you dare follow her. She brings trouble to every man she’s with.Thankfully, she couldn’t interfere with Danny’s life, as hard as she tried and still hasn’t learned to stay out of her kids lives.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.

This week on General Hospital begins with the ABC soap opera’s 16,000th episode which brings Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) back to Port Charles after being released by the WSB; all thanks to the deal made between Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) and Z (John Oliver).

On the same episode, the upshot of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) coming face to face, and seeing each other for the first time in months plays itself out, and it may not be how you think.
