When The Young and the Restless made the announcement and acquisitions that they were were bringing two of daytime soaps most powerful actors to Genoa City on Roger Howarth and Tamara Braun, you better believe that the A-list cast was more than excited to have them join their ranks, and for the opportunity to share scenes with them.

Howarth was cast as Matt Clark, the definitive arch-enemy of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow), who at one time raped Sharon (Sharon Case), now back from the dead, living under the alias of Mitch Bacall in Los Angeles, and who was now married to his wife, Sienna Bacall, played by Braun. However, as viewers have already seen, that whole relationship is a shambles as she was having an affair on her hubby with Nick and Sharon’s son Noah (Lucas Adams), while not even realizing Mitch had a another life as Matt. Now that it’s all come to light, there is more Matt Clark-led revenge and treachery ahead.

Earlier this week, Sharon Case and Joshua Morrow visited You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel to kick-off the 2026 season of its live guest conversations, and the subject turned to Roger Howarth coming to Y&R. Sharon revealed some of her inner-most thoughts and what happened when she first worked with Roger and Tamara on set.

SHARON AND MATT COME FACE TO FACE

Sharon explained she had no idea it was even a possibility that soap vet, Roger Howarth (ex-ATWT, GH and OLTL) was in talks with Y&R. “I was in the dark. Lately, I haven’t been asking specifically about what storylines were coming ahead, because I’m so focused on what I’m doing at the time. But, when I had heard that Roger was coming to Y&R. I was very excited because, of course, I’ve seen his work on General Hospital and he’s such a wonderful actor. I love when someone like that joins our show.  I’m lucky enough to get to be his scene partner and be in the storyline with him. Initially, I had no idea what it would be about. Then, I found out it was Matt Clark. I thought, ‘Wow! Interesting!’ I’ve always thought one of these days Matt Clark needs to come back again. He’s one of those (type of) return villains over the decades, as is Cameron Kirsten (played by Linden Ashby). and a few others.”

In story, Sharon runs into Matt (who is now going by Mitch Bacall) outside his club, The Shadow Room in Los Angeles. In fact, it was Sharon Case’s scene, when she looks at Howarth that identifies him to the audience as Matt Clark; a role previously played by Eddie Cibrian and Rick Hearst.

“We had never worked together,” recalls Sharon of the scene with Howarth. “We’ve barely been introduced and now he’s supposed to be playing this character that I do have a history with. So, I’m trying to make the scene work and make it scary, shocking …everything. I’m this close to Roger’s face. We’re like face to face in this scene. So, we have no personal space. I say to Roger, ‘I know we’ve never met, but I’m just going to be terrified in your face.’ Roger is great actor, very steady. It was him that helped me get through that scene and helped me feel like, ‘I’m selling this scene properly.'”

When Sharon Case finally taped her first scenes with both Roger and Tamara Braun together, it became a very surreal and emotional moment for her. As she remembered it, “I think it was only a few scenes, or day beyond that, in which I also worked with Tamara Braun and Roger together. And again, we barely knew each other. We’ve barely been introduced, but we shot a scene.”

She continued, “I paused, and said to them, ‘You know, I just have to say something. I’ve watched your work, both of you for years. I never thought that this day would happen. Why would I (dare to) imagine this? So, I just want you to know what I’m feeling. I’m really in awe right now. This is an amazing thing for me. That’s how I feel, and I just wanted them to know that’. They were so lovely. Tamara’s the sweetest person in the world. I didn’t expect that. She always plays these rough girls (on TV). But, she’s totally the opposite (in real-life)!

It’s always nice to hear that like soap fans or soap pundits, that the actors have real human emotions when it comes to being fans of their peers work; especially when given the opportunity to work alongside two of the best to appear in the genre. Now, in case you missed it, you can catch the full live chat with Joshua and Sharon below.

Then, let us know, what did you think of Sharon explaining how she got through her initial scene with Roger Howarth when Sharon comes face to face with Matt Clark? What do you think of her sentiments towards both Roger and Tamara Braun? Excited to see where the story goes from here? Share our thoughts in the comment section.

Sharon is one of the main reasons I watch y and r still I just love her.

Tamara has always been a favorite of mine she was fabulous on Days and on GH!

Roger is of course incomparable. I just love him.

Y and R is so fun to watch right now. (Except when Sally is on)

Sally rocks! She has great talent, charisma and she had enormous chemistry with Adam. Much more so than Chelsea who sucks the oxygen out of the room just from entering it. You hating on Sally only makes me love her more.

Ewwww she’s icky! And that dumb outfit she had on it looked like a baby blanket with a belt. Billy can do so much better.

Wow! Really? Billy is lucky to have her.

That scene with audra at society was done so beautifully and dignified by the gorgeous Zuleyka silver but Sally looked like…she had just rolled out of bed! So ya she has some talent I suppose

Sharon Case is no slouch herself. Her reaction to Nick arriving at her door to tell her that Rey had been killed in a car accident was nothing short of brilliant. Her tone of voice merged with her facial expressions to convey a rapidly array of emotions starting with denial, delay, shock and then an unmitigated outpouring of unbridled grief. Sharon knew as soon as she saw Nick’s face that he was there to tell her Rey died.

I love Sharon

What a nice article to read during such dark and anxious times. Tamara is indeed a very kind, humble gentle person- the direct opposite of the characters she plays. And just like Roger, she’s a gifted actress ( as is Sharon Case).

Nathan Fillion Recalls Best Advice for a Soap Opera Tag on ‘What What Happens Live’ with Andy Cohen

Published

By

Nathan Fillion, who stars on ABC’s The Rookie, which was officially renewed for its ninth season, and who began his television career on One Life to Live as Joey Buchanan from 1994-1997 was the guest along with actress Geena Davis on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live on Bravo.

During their conversation, Cohen who is a big fan of soap operas himself, especially All My Children asked Fillion about the incredible pace of acting on a soap. Fillion reflected, “It is extreme acting at a pace that you cannot fathom, and I’m told even since then it’s gotten faster and faster.” The Llanview alum added, “There are very soap operas left. I was in it just as they were starting to decline.”

However, in the buzzworthy moment that has made it to social media, Fillion shared, “I learned one very important thing. We were talking about that slow closeup at the end of a scene,” also referred to as the tag.  So, “I complained about how long that closeup was like, “What am I supposed to do?”

THREE FACES OF A SOAP OPERA TAG

Fillion recalled, “A lovely man named Michael Knight (ex-Tad Martin) from All My Children (now Martin Grey on GH), I complained about (it to and) how long that closeup was, like, ‘What am I supposed to do?’ He said, ‘You need to make three faces.” Now Fillion made the faces associated with these thoughts in front of Cohen and Geena Davis, while looking straight to the camera. “They are: ‘Did I leave the stove on?’ ‘I did leave the stove on!’ ‘No, I turned the stove off.’ Works for every scene!”

ONE LIFE TO LIVE LEADING LADIES

Later, Cohen asked about the leading ladies he got the opportunity to work with on One Life to Live, and mentioned, then Nathan’s on-screen mother, Erika Slezak (Viki), and then Nathan’s on-screen lover Robin Strasser (Dorian).

Nathan explained, “I was in between Erika Slezak and Robin Strasser – the matriarch of the show, the villain of the show, I was torn between them. It was the perfect position to be in. I had a fantastic time.”

You can catch the moments where Nathan and Andy talk about Fillion’s time as Joey Buchanan on One Life to Live below beginning at the 3:08 mark.

So, what did you think of advice Michael Knight gave to Nathan to help him cue into the looks of a soap opera tag at the end of a scene? Did you love the story which saw Joey torn between the love for his mother, and the passionate affair with an older woman, Viki’s nemesis, Dorian Lord? Let us know via the comment section below.

‘General Hospital’s’ Jonathan Bennett Knew He Hit the ‘Jackpot’ With New Role as Joe Fitzpatrick

First-look photos of Jonathan Bennett’s new General Hospital role of PCPD officer Joe Fitzpatrick have been released, given GH fans a glimpse of what’s to come when the character makes his debut on Monday’s upcoming May 18 episode.

Bennett is coming home to ABC soap operas, after beginning his career as All My Children’s JR Chandler some 25 years ago. The actor/host/producer shared that returning to the rigors of a daytime drama was not on his “bingo” card.  However, the minute he heard about the role, there was no question in his mind, he was going to go in, read for it, and make it his!

In preview of his upcoming debut, Jonathan spoke with TV Insider, where he detailed his feelings on playing Joe, “I feel like I hit the jackpot when this opportunity came because the character is something that I really wanted to play. I’ve never read something where I was like, ‘I have to do it,’ and when I read this, I called my agent and said, ‘I’m playing this character.’”

KNEW THIS ROLE WAS FOR ME

Confident that he would nab the role, he clearly was the choice of GH executive producer Frank Valentini too, with whom, Bennett shared is one of the reasons he couldn’t wait to step into the world of Port Charles, “I was very excited to work with the best of the best, like Frank Valentini. He’s a legend.”

The Hallmark Channel and Food Network staple also shared that once his casting was announced, the reaction he received, doubled-down his decision that being on General Hospital and playing Joe Fitzpatrick was the right move at this time in his career and his life.

“The outpouring of love from just the announcement made me really emotional. I was driving home, talking to my husband, and I started having tears roll down my face. It just feels so good to go somewhere where you’re so loved and you feel so supported before you even start. It felt like a weight was taken off my shoulders. I just was like, ‘Oh, this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.’”

PREVIEW CLIP

In an exclusive clip released to PEOPLE.com on Friday, May 15, GH fans can get their first real glimpse of Bennett in the role of Joe Fitzpatrick. In the scene at the PCPD, Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) asks, “Hey, dispatcher. What’s the story with this arrest?” To which Joe responds, “A call came in from the maître d’ at the Metro Court and he said there was some sort of argument, scuffle happening in the gardens and was concerned things were going to escalate and patrons would get injured. When we got there, it was obvious, things had escalated.”

That exchange leaves General Hospital fans wondering who was in the scuffle? Stay tuned.

So, will Dante put Joe on the case to help keep his son Rocco remain in the clear from shooting Cullum? Will Joe be a good guy, or could he be implanted at the PCPD by Sidwell or Cullum? What about the role that Jonathan Bennett read initially, do you think made it something that he really wanted to play? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.
