The evening featured dynamic production numbers, heartfelt ballads and hilarious skits. Now, 10 years after that final performance, the iconic ABC Daytime actors revisit their performances as they help raise money for those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
When the event began in 2005. it was for a one-night benefit concert to celebrate All My Children’s 35th Anniversary. With overwhelming support from fans, the event continued for six more years and included cast members from One Life to Live, General Hospital and co-hosts of The View. Over its seven-year run, ABC Daytime Salutes Broadway Cares raised an incredible $1.85 million.
“This event is truly one of a kind,” Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola said. “We are so thankful to the stars from ABC Daytime for joining us again as we relive moments from this delightful tradition, while helping to provide lifesaving medication, healthy meals and emergency support to those struggling during this ongoing pandemic.”
“It was such an incredible privilege and joy to join my fellow co-stars to perform in the seven ABC Daytime Salutes concerts to benefit Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS,” said former All My Children star Susan Lucci. “There are no fans like ABC Daytime fans. Their love and support continue to astonish us. We can’t wait to share these special performances with them and help raise money for so many in need during this difficult time.”
Lucci also shared her excitement on her Instagram account expressing: “We’re getting the fans and cast back together!!! Join us on Thursday, February 11 at 8pm for “ABC Daytime: Back on Broadway”—a fabulous online event revisiting seven years of singing, dancing and plot twists, featuring your favorite ABC Daytime stars. Those are teasers, not spoilers.. I know there are many who do not know the difference of teasers and spoilers.. Spoilers Tell What will happen and when, and the outcome…. Teases are nothing more than a description of the daily show; much like what TV guide would tell of the daily show for that day in the guide.. Teasers do not— tell what will happen/outcomes etc of stories.. There is a soap site that has a terrible time with what spoilers are and what tease promotions are, and people are scared to tell the promotion teasers, and they are meant… Read more »
Victor and Todds storyline is what im most interested in…
Just watched today’s episode. I have decided to give AMC two months to work out their problems. AJ and Miranda are making the show unwatchable. All the other actors are wonderful and I like the story lines. I understand the need for bringing in young soap fans but as an older fan, the AJ and Miranda show is not what I want to watch. Aj’s cursing and shooting the finger is just too much. I really don’t mind a few curse words but it was way too much today. I really don’t see AMC lasting very long and it will… Read more »
Todays episode was a letdown…i can let pass some cursing but with it in todays episode and popping the finger seemed more like lets do it just because we can…it seems this is what the writers are most excited about doing instead of delivering good storylines! I can understand using younger characters to attract younger fans but at the same time these writers need not to push away their established fan base. I turn 30 May 25th…maybe im too old for this! I like younger characters and older ones just the same! Hopefully Adam, Brooke and Opal will get more… Read more »
I totally disagree. This is AMC. Jesse, Angie, Tad,, etc. , even Erica– started as teens. Keep it up Agnes, I love it!
I disagree. Like it or not that is how real teenagers speak. I am loving the new actors and i think the writing is more authentic.
Soaps are not suppose to be realistic! They never were! That’s what made them fun. Most people would never do these things! How many people have died & came back to life? Soaps are not reality shows!
I’m wondering if we are watching the same show? Miranda and AJ have not been monopolizing the whole show. All My Children has always had a focus on the younger set. Thus the title of the show. Just the younger set we grew up watching grew up,just like we did.
AMC is great! there is variety…
The vets are all in good stories, suspense and mystery..
Jesse and Zac are heading into an awesome story..
Jr and David’s story has just begun, too ..
There are very good stories for the vets and the new young of the cast are doing a good job and their stories all effect the vets..
All the stories have just started and looking forward to them to get into full swing!
I hate the cussing! I think it hurts the shows, because they will lose some of their audience if they keep it up. I love my shows, but I hate cursing. What’s next will they take God’s name in vain? All the reasons I love my shows they are taking away. I will have to stop watching them if this continues. I hope enough people say something so it will stop. It is totaling unnecessary, and it is a change that needs to go! We lived without it for a year, we don’t have to watch filth.
Watched today’s OLTL… I miss RC’s writing!!!
Let me change that to… really… really… really… miss RC’s writing!!!
Me too! Im still watching but im not addicted like before…that could change in the weeks ahead! Too soon to give up at this point…i do like it but it needs more drama, a little Roxy humor, and romance! Romance outside the bedroom all soaps need! Like when me and my husband take a picnic lunch and long walks at the beach!
It is not possible to have all that you want in the beginning; 5 shows, sheeshhhh ..
I finally seen both reboots…AMC seems like two seperate soaps…The Young and The Restless and the Old and the Still Beatiful. OLTL is the best of the two. Both lack addiction and i agree with my friend Kim that the cursing and more explicit love scenes do seem to be there just because they can do it without network cencorship and does seemed overused. But me and my friends will remain watchers hoping for more story improvement. Had Victor not return OLTL wouldve had problems, im just saying!
I have not watched but the New York Times gave both shows a scathing review with all my children really ridiculed. The reviewer said the acting was awful and the younger set was playing roles they were too old for. i feel all my children died ten years ago as it ran out of gas. I have no interest in starting up again when there are much better shows to watch and I mean non daytime soaps. I have not heard a single comment at the water cooler or in the neighborhood about these reboots. There is better entertainment out… Read more »
Really? Instead of reading what some reporter at NYT who has probably never watched a single episode has to say,why not take 25 minutes out of your day. All My Children is better than it’s been in a decade.
I agree that reviewer came off as a moron who probably didn’t like either show in the first place.
So far I am loving both shows. Love the new Miranda, but not sure about AJ yet. The younger kids actually act like real life teenagers and not characters of father knows best teens. “Oh gee golly gee guys” is not life like and silly. I like the story of Miranda as this is really what teens of two moms or two dads put up with everyday in school. Whether it’s right or wrong, it’s life.. It’s a lifestyle choice for the parents but not the children, so it’s really refreshing to see how someones choices, any choices, really affect… Read more »
I’m loving both of these shows, and so glad they’re back! Of course there are going to be differences from the televised versions, and it would be unrealistic to expect otherwise. I feel that there are enough familiar characters and stories to bring us right back to Pine Valley and Llanview, and I’m enjoying the journey!
I agree. I can’t believe how many are complaining when they should be happy just to have our shows back. They have been updated from the 70’s to the 21st century and are much more realistic to today than they ever were on T.V.
I am giving AMC and OLTL every chance to succeed. I know going in these are not the soaps I watched in ABC for decades. They cannot be. I caught up on first week over this past weekend. I nearly cried seeing Opal. Love her. I also loved seeing Bianca in the form of Eden Riegel (a life favorite!), and of course, Brooke and a surprisingly docile Adam. I was surprised by my enjoyment and interest in the Celia storyline and am curious about who her guardian is. A private girls school is very Pine Valley! And the actress playing… Read more »
Gotta give them a chance, I’ll watch.. I don’t care how bad it gets. I know it’s better to have them and suffer thru growing pains, than to not have them.
I haven’t watched today’s episodes yet but why should they have growing pains??? There’s always a new show on prime time…we don’t “wait” to see it will get better! The writers of these soaps are supposedly experienced and should be able to tell a story and hold the viewer’s attention from the get-go…I would hope they caught up on both show’s histories…they should know how to write the characters without a blip. I’ve posted this thought before but the whole “drawing a younger audience” is ridiculous. The fanbase that fought for these shows are the ages they are…they are the… Read more »
and…if I only knew how to edit or correct my typos I’d feel much better about my rant!!! LOL…so:
“wait to see IF it will get better…”
“of” new viewers
better not “beter”
going not “oging”
sigh.
I am trying to really keep an open mind – I am not quite as interested in the younger set but DO UNDERSTAND that they need to attract younger viewers. I am more of the age bracket of Dixie-Tad-Angie-Jesse so naturally, I am the most interested in those characters ~ I don’t want Adam and Brooke to just be set decorations, I’d like to see and hear some interesting and meaningful dialogue transpire between them. I don’t want Opal to just bake brownies and give them to Petey, I feel she deserves a storyline of her own. These are just… Read more »
