ABC has released this week’s promo for General Hospital, and if you put the pieces together, you may figure out who the voice over narrator is talking about.  Or, is it just a red-herring to throw viewers off?  Time will only tell, but here’s what to look for as clues in the promo – the Jason/Bernie crime scene, coupled with Sam’s voice saying, “Don’t assume he is gone.” Next, we hear Monica saying, “If anyone should find out you’re alive ….”, and we see a man walking in the dark in what appears to be leather jacket! The promo ends with Patrick (who probably is talking about Robin at this point) stating, “People just don’t come back from the dead!”

So as we know, Sean Kanan is set to return to General Hospital next week!  Steve Burton’s last airshow was yesterday.  What do you think is going on here?  Is Kanan going to be a very much alive A.J.?  A replacement for Burton’s Jason? Are we talking about someone else completely showing up out of the blue?

Watch the General Hospital promo after the jump, and then weigh-in!

I think if Kanan were replacing Burton, Frank and ABC wouldn’t be so secretive about it. Plus, that move would be a horrible one. I’d rather him back as AJ because he wouldn’t fit as Jason. Plus, not a fan of SK anyway!

I think the “Return” is AJ and Robin, officially!

THIS IS CRAP IVE BEEN WATCHING FOR OVER 35 YEARS AND JASON NEEDS TO COME BACK AND BE HIMSELF.. PLUS HE WOULD BE FURIOUS ABOUT AJ TALKIG TO SAM… AND MICHIAL. ISNT SAM SUPPOSE TO BE SMARTER THAN THAT??? SHE KNOWS HOW JASON HATED AJ????

A.J. Please let it be A.J.!

I was told when I left a comment on another website that no one other than Steve Burton could ever play his role.Couldn’t disagree more! But they’ll do what they want to do anyway regardless of what any fan might think!

Wishful thinking here but I wish they would surprise us again and bring back Tristan Rogers. This Duke storyline is ridiculous but makes even less sense with Luke involved and not Robert!

Patrick wouldn’t have that reaction to AJ as he wouldn’t even know who he is.
We know it isn’t steve burton. Robin couldn’t just up and come back alone out of a coma.
I am all for replacing Jason. Steve wasn’t fired. He was tired of playing Jason and he split so I have no problem with another playing his part. I am not going to sit and mourn a guy who didn’t want to be there and I really hate it when people write they aren’t watching the show anymore like he was forced out. If they mystery person is Sean Kanan coming in to play Jason bring it on.

as much as i have enjoyed watching Steve playing Jason all these years, i hate to say it, but you are right…he walked away from a role he has played many years…i can understand how sometimes you feel you need a change, i am working at my job 35 years, but i’m not walking away (even if many times i would love to)…it was his choice to leave and i would have no problem if they recast him as long as it was someone with the same dynamics and screen presence and connections with his co-stars…i just think if he really wanted to Steve could have worked something out..Steve Reeves family lives in TN also, but he manages to do the show and stilll live outside of LA. perhaps if he wanted SB could have asked for a bit less air time so he could spend more time with his family…anyway, it really doesnt matter anymore..he’s gone and now we all move on.

Only Steve can play Jason. Although he was portrayed as a hit man, he came across as a caring and loving person. I for one would hate to see someone else play Jason,

Everyone knows it is AJ and looks like Monica has known all along he was alive was he not in some kind of trouble when he fell down the staircase of course that was Billy Warlock playing him then a total miscast. And people no one is mad at Seve Burton he sold his house chose to move on they left an opening for him if he wanted to come back. End of story and let the man have some peace the economy alone is making people move out of California plus he has stated he did not want to raise his kids there. He is not a politician please take the man at his word. I may not have ever cared for his character but the actor is a good guy. His house sold he moved get over it.

Were you his neighbour?… just wondering. It sounds like you knew him.

ITA, This is very likely. I remembered a scene where Monica was talking to AJ’s (Lifeless) Body. So she could have hidden AJ to keep him safe. That is her voice in the promo. The scene of Patrick aired Last week when Anna Told Patrick that she thought Robin was alive.

Brian if I told you my source I would have to just kidding a columnist I do know stated all of this in their column. I just got a little pertubed that we can not take a person at his word now if he shows up over at Y&R then I guess I eat crow. Lol!

I think he will be playing a.j. But, who knows? All I know is that it will be exciting to watch and find out! Missing Steve Burton already, but still Love GH!!!

I do NOT like Duke. He looks like the devil.

I don’t like him either! And they changed and destroyed my Joe Scully to have him back. ISH ISH and ISH BORING!!

I agree. I hate Duke. What a has been!!!! He can not act because his face is so pumped up with botox and the eye lift was a botched job!!!!!

Joe Scully was hot!!!! It was a shame to dump Joe Scully a mega hottie who can act for the expressionless, llifeless Duke!!!! Today, Joe Scully had more personality dead than Duke does alive!!!!!

What a waste!!!!!! I love Steve Burton and I will miss him but I will miss Joe Scully just as much and he was on the Port Charles Landscape for such a short time!!!!

I think is was politics that got him fired. I am sure some major cast mates were threatened by his good looks, charisma, and acting ability.

I totally disagree, I think Duke being back is a stroke of genius, and I’m glad they are keeping him as a bad guy!

This is Duke is not the same Duke I used to love. This Duke is more like Ian McAllister from Days and I didn’t like him. Is it possible that too much time has lapsed for his character to be significant in PC?
Sean Kanan looks like Steve Burton so who knows if they recast? Like someone said before, GH has to scramble to fill this role since Steve vacated it. Can’t blame the actor though, he was over LA and can’t blame the show for wanting to continue with the character who still has more story to tell. We’ll see.

i want to know why/when did duke become so mean??? he sounds and acts more like jullian gerome than duke….

I agree. New writers intrepretation. If they’re going to bring back a character from the dead then I wish they would at least respect the character’s personality traits. Who would want THIS guy to be with Anna??

Maybe it’s not really Duke? I didn’t watch when Duke was on before – but man, I can’t stand him now. I FF thru much of his stuff.

Why even bring him back if it’s not Duke? Honestlly, I think the character has been gone too long and now they’ve made him so nasty that he’s hard to care about.
I don’t remember this character being as bad as he is now, but it’s been awhile; perhaps I need a refresher on why Anna fell in love with him in the first place!

I totally disagree, I think Duke being back is a stroke of genius, and I’m glad they are keeping him as a bad guy! I’ve been sick of Jason for years, glad to see the canvas open up and less of the Sonny/Jason show.

He just reminds me more of Ian McAllister on Days than he does of Duke Lavery; the Duke I remember anyway. I’d like to root for the ol Duke & Anna but the writers are making that impossible right now.

I do agree with you on not making it a Sonny/Jason show or a Carly show for that matter …. no one should hog up screen time unless it’s Tony Geary 🙂

Why can’t it be Steve Burton ? I read one time where he might fly into town to work – and they aren’t individually on enough now to have that be impossible.

I hope so, anyway…..sigh. I’m sure not crazy about the time being wasted on Duke, that evil incarnate, and RC has finally disappointed me with getting rid of Scully – when he was so great with Monica.

Sad – I thought I was on a great GH wonder experience lol!

well, he just left the show and sold his house in LA – why would he want to fly back & forth? He’ over it.

$$$$$. He left before for a couple of years – and then came back with long hair lol. I’m sure if he could fly into LA twice a month and do a bunch of scenes and then go back to Nashville he’d do it – unless he ends up with a new job – maybe he’s going to be with Jonathan on Nashville.

I’m very angry about the way Jason was written off. Steve/Jason deserved to be able to have air time with all the characters JAason interacts with. The fans deserved to have more time with the Jason’s new family- and for the baby to be found to be Jason’s before he left. And his leaving should have been something better written. A true story- like leaving the mob, or trying to find Robin or something where either Steve or someone else as Jason could come back- in a way that is not insulting to the viewer. Good bye GH, I’ve had it. At least for the foreseable future. I don’t want to see the reactions of his loved ones . Now MOnica is all alone. Terrible writing.

I wanted Jason to know Danny was his baby too, and hate missing those scenes. However, I think your anger is misdirected. Steve chose to leave which I imagine was a surprise and created much work to be re-written and planned, and probably not enough time for what we wanted, before Steve left.

I’ll miss SB, but I’m more concerned about this ridiculous storyline of Duke Lavery’s return. 🙂

Why would they bother shooting Jason and throwing him in the water if they planned to recast him right away? It’s gotta be AJ.

I know Team GH is working hard to restore the lustre and they are successful. I am just “over” resurrections and international terrorism and espionage.

The lady who dropped the cup is Monica and who she saw at her door was A.J, back from the dead..
It has nothing to with Jason ..
(and with Patrick it is about Robin ..

I agree. Plus AJ returning would definitely put Carly on edge so it makes sense to show her in the promo – be it Jason being presumed dead or AJ returning from the dead.

Sure would like AJ and Alan to come back.

Well in OLTL one Todd was replaced with another Todd….Plus they haven’t found Jason’s body…Hmmmm!!!!!!! Don’t you find that an opening for something unexpected!!!!
The mystery where’s Jason’s body if they can’t find it???? My idea is his body drifted somewhere on land & someone found him & is taking care of him………It’s happen before on the soaps………….

I think Sean Kanan will be back as AJ, as it should be. There is only one Jason (imo), and that is most definitely Steve Burton. Good promo though – maybe misleading, but definitely intriguing.

I think they want to throw us on a little “wild duck hunt,” as Ricky Ricardo would say. The man in the dark is either Jason or AJ and the woman in the boots is trying to lead us to believe it is Robin.

I heard Robin calls the house and Emma answers, so she is adding to the mystery for the fall storylines.

I’m interested in who this Sabrina really is too. I have heard she could be a plant for Duke or Anna’s believed-to-be-dead daughter, Leora Hayward. It is all very interesting.

I think that Sean will be probably be coming back as ” JASON” and not as A.J…. but
how ever anybody’s guess is as good as mine.. anyways I’ll surely miss Steve Burton as Jason Morgan on the show.. and wish him the good luck !

Its AJ, Robin and Allan.

they need to bring back emily!!! and ya know rember monicas daughter dawn? she was ALSO KILLED [another stupid move] ,a good story would be dawn wasnt realy her kid but a conwoman who came to care for the q”s wich would mean her REAL kid is alive!!! somewhere…..and bring on elizbeths dad jeff webber he and monica where married at one point…giving monica a story and a love interest…..

Not for nothing but those looked like a womans boot walking…maybe its Emily.

It’s AJ !!

That’s be nice. I’ve always felt bad for Monica, because the previous regime killed off all her family. I also felt bad because Jason didn’t have much to do with her. I’m hoping that the show can finally move away from Sonny and the mob and find a new pulse, pun intended. Long live ONE LIFE TO LIVE.

A.J faked his death, monica knew, she calls him to tell him Jason is dead. He comes back to town, agianst her advice. she kept quite to keep her son alive.

i want it to be Robin and Jason but we know it will be AJ.

Hopefully, today’s episode (with Monica looking at pictures of Jason and SK’s AJ in the family album) will finally put to rest all of the silly rumors about SK being a Jason recast. First of all, even though I’ve never been much of a fan of the character, Jason is too iconic a role to be recast and FV and RC know it. Secondly, it’s been repeatedly stated that the door is being left open for SBu to return if or when he chooses. I’m looking forward to AJ’s storyline.

I know Steve walked away. He was tired. He played Jason “on and off” , mostly on, for about 20 years. He said he loves the show, his co-workers, the entire staff and all his fans, but he needed a break. He has a couple of young kids to help raise and wanted to spend time with them. When you work on a daily soap, you often have to work late hours. He needs to be there for his kids. Maybe he’ll get tired of whatever he’s going to do in Tennessee and come back. I hope they don’t replace his character so he can come back. I’m sure that most of his fans would welcome him back with Open Arms. I hope very much that he enjoys his time off, but I also hope he comes back to GH. He will be truly missed.

Glad abut afew things.
Glad that Jason is dead, and hoes that he stays that way. Also glad that it is Monica Quartermaine that will expedite the return of her son Alan Jr. I always wished that Jason woulda died instead of AJ . With Jason and Edward dead the Quartermaines are facin extinction. With that, I am glad that AJ is coming back to have scenes with Monica, Tracy, Carly, Sonny, andmost importantly Michael.

Jason and Robin should stay dead. That would be on my wishlist. Also I would let Heather eliminate Liv as well. That girl is just dumb and needs to go!!!!!!!!!

Hay Jason pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
come back to GH and sam

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
