Courtesy/TOLN
One Life to Live and All My Children will have their first season finalesĀ coming up in August and September, respectively as just announced this morning in a press release from Prospect Park’s The OnLine Network (TOLN)!
The first new season of One Life To Live will end with episodes on Monday, August 19th, and All My Children will follow two weeks later on Monday, September 2nd.Ā Both of these iconic series, which premiered to great fanfare this past April, have consistently ranked in the top 10 on iTunes, Hulu and Hulu Plus, and have had tens of millions of views since their historic online debut.
“We could not be more proud to have delivered a stunning season of All My Children and One Life to Live and really thank the creative teams and cast for being true partners in this journey. Together we have tackled more business, creative, and logistical challenges than most shows experience in a lifetime of production, yet we continue to prevail with these top rated, critically acclaimed shows,ā said Jeff Kwatinetz. āWe are prepping now for next season and have more surprises and twists and turns to deliver audiencesāI am just hoping they stay on the soaps and not in our way.ā
This season of One Life to Live wraps as the entire town of Llanview attends the annual Man of the Year Gala. Viki and Dorian, co-chairs of the planning committee, hope that the event will go off without a hitch. However, with the conflicts between many of the characters brewing to the surface, that looks nearly impossible. Ā Fireworks explode and it all comes to a head with the shocking return of a fan favorite in a big way. Everything comes to a head on the season finale of One Life to Live!
Meanwhile, the first season of All My Children wraps up by answering many of the seasons burning questions.Ā Will Angie and Jesse finally bring home Cassandra after her horrific journey?Ā Will the ordeal bring them closer or is Jesse keeping another secret that could put his family in jeopardy? Ā Will Pete finally end up with Celia or do Colby and Opal have other plans?Ā And what of Dimitriās feelings for Brooke? Mirandaās for AJ?Ā Zachās for Kendall?Ā And is there a big surprise in store for Cara, JR and David about Oliver? Ā Lots of action to come.
In other news:Ā TOLN has also announced that future seasons of both soaps will benefit from the launch of a new, user-friendly web portal and app that will make it much easier for fans to connect with their favorite Llanview and Pine Valley citizens, which will help take them to a new level of interaction. TOLNās new digital destination for the network, www.toln.com, will feature dedicated series pages, enhanced video content, detailed show descriptions, cast and character pages, a photo gallery with social shopping functionality, links to the social media communities for both shows on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. and much more. The complimentary mobile app for iOS and Android will allow fans to watch full length episodes ofĀ One Life to Live and All My Children, in addition to exclusive clips, interviews and behind-the-scenes footage. The TOLN app will work on iOS (3G and Retina Display) and Android devices.
So what do you think of the news of the season finale dates? Looking forward to seeing how each of the shows … OLTL and AMC .. wraps-up with cliffhangers to keep you waiting for what is to come in the next season?
Yay! Can’t hardly wait!
I think it’s time you did some investigative reporting to find out what happened to the “hundreds” of episodes we were first promised. As recently as May 16, a TOLN press release called for “over 100 episodes per show.” Now it looks like it won’t even hit 50.
They promised something like 110 episodes per year, not per season. They can have 2 or 3 seasons in a single year if they want to call each story arc a season. We don’t know yet how their production is going to run. There may not be much of a gap , or any gap at all, between seasons.
You make a good point Beth, however a traditional TV season for a soap is one year. Also, when PP announced the “hiatus” in June, they specifically said there were enough shows already finished to last through the end of September. Something doesn’t add up.
I agree with Dennis.Something is going on to suddenly tell us they done for now. They have not given me the right explanations for this sudden season ending. They were suppose to resume taping so we wouldn’t have an interrupting and now it done for now.
There’s a reason it’s called a “season finale” and not a “series finale”.
Dennis, this is what was said when the shows went on hiatus in June: āThe hiatus is scheduled to end on August 12 pending resolution of this labor issue. Right now we have 40 episodes of each show ready to post through September, and if we can resolve this issue by August, we can get back into the studio on time so audiences will enjoy uninterrupted postings of their favorite shows.ā It doesn’t look like anything’s changed in their production schedule yet. They’re just calling the end of this story arc a “season finale.”
I think it had something to do with the union strike. Production halted and I actually forgot that they were only going to do so many shows a year. I really like them and will be unhappy that they will end again.
Will there be a space of no shows between the seasons?
Okay.. so when does the 2nd season start?
AJ that is a good question when does the second season start for both shows and I have a couple more questions as will their be more episodes in the upcoming season and will their be more episodes a week for both All My Children and One Life to Live.
there will be no lapse between seasons its just like General Hospital on Hulu they just calling each story a season there will be no lapse between shows
There will in fact be a lapse AJ. TV Source Magazine cites a Prospect Park representative sharing that a return date has not been determined.
I hope the wait for season two is not months.
So do I. I actually thought we were going to have our soaps back on a regular basis like we used to have. But I guess not. Doesnt seem right to have your soaps on a “season” basis.
I’m loving both shows so much! I eagerly anticipate season 2.
The finale word makes me nervous with these two shows. I will be happen when I hear they’re filming again and the start dates for “season 2”
The word FINALE is used all the time when it comes to primetime soaps, so why can’t these two soaps do the same? If we didn’t have season finales we wouldn’t have the iconic Who Shot JR Episode or the less than iconic Moldavian Massacre?
Except that show and every other show with seasons weren’t canceled already and then have had a rough road to a relaunch.
And there are always times when a show films what they were planning to be a season finale and then gets canceled after and never gets a proper series finale.
Which is why I don’t like the word finale being associated with my soaps. Especially with this labor dispute right now.
Just in case you missed it, the labor dispute is over.
What i NEED to know is when does the second season start? Hopefully not April 2014?
Can’t wait – Hope the return fan favorite surprise will be John McBain played by Michael Easton. Miss “JOLIE” and still feel robbed by FV/RC. One can only wish for and hope!! Will watch – can’t wait!
Here’s where you and I part company, other Tali. Very over John Mc Bain and all that brooding. Cutter and Natalie are starting to grow on me…we just need longer epis or simply more shows to develope the relationships more deeply. Love seeing them every day on OWN. Feels more like the old saturation connection to the stories. 2 half hour shows a week zoom by so fast and far between that it is hard to build a connection. But I like the direction and at this point I am trusting Jeff K. to make it happen. He is literally working this thing. And I understand his message to work with, and not against those changes.
Cutter & Natalie are terrible! Trying to redeem Cutter is almost bad as redeeming Franco – it just doesn’t work. Myself, I would be more acceptable of a new love interest for Natalie – instead of a sleaze like Cutter. I do agree just when you are getting into the story the episode is over. OWN is good and I hope they keep the soaps on, however I’m absolutely loving OLTL on HULU!!
Tali,
I get that you dislike Cutter/Natalie and I respect that, but in my opinion making that comparison between Cutter and Franco is beyond absurd. Franko has done things that are beyond disgusting and completely unredeemable. Cutter hasn’t raped anyone, hasn’t gotten someone else to rape a child and hasn’t done anything nearly as bad as Franco. Yes Cutter married a mentally ill Jessica and then sold her to her family for their money. That’s a terrible thing to do but hardly unredeemable. Hell Ford ws worse for actually raping Jess when she was “17.” Cutter never did that. At worst Cutter is a sleazy small time con artist which is more than redeemable.
Personally I am really enjoying Cutter and Natalie and am finally enjoying Natalie in general now that McBain isn’t absolutely sucking the life out of her. To each his own
What if its Victor?
Tali,
I also dislike Cutter and Natalie. They make absolutely no sense to me. Of course I would love to see Natalie and McBain again. Take a look at the latest Michael Easton interview released today by Phyllis Thomas on examiner.com . It states he would be open to coming back to help at OLTL. That would be wonderful if it materialized.
Thanks Nancy – enjoyed the interview. Hope it works out, I’d be in heaven.
I hope that “fan favorite” that’s returning on OLTL is Michael Easton!
Maybe its Victor?
Agreed!
Michael Easton said he would not leave his family for even 1 night. I think the surprise is TSJ. I am unhappy thinking that this might be the end of Todd.
When will they be back and will they be on a regular season like they were on network television. I don’t want a break but I know they are back in the studio recording new shows so hopefully it won’t be a long absence. Hopefully, OWN will have them as a regular part of their programming!
Seasons? Really? I’m just about ready to regretfully give up.
So if you take your position, Dynasty, Dallas, Falcon Crest and Knots Landing never had season finales. I think if memory serves me correctly, Dallas had 12, Falcon Crest had 9, Knots had 8 or 9 and Dynasty had 9. What’s different?
Jeff – the difference are that these are daytime soaps. By definition, there are no “seasons” with a hiatus in between. They are serialized stories. My fear is that taking any kind of a “break” is not good for momentum. It doesn’t bode well.
Since when do soaps have seasons? I guess PP has run out of money again and needs recess to fundraise some money to continue. Oh, well, whats next?
Not daytime soaps– but I think fans of these shows have to look at them more like a prime time soap like Dallas– these shows on the web or on OWN are now more like those types of soaps– a continuing drama on a limited basis. That is why I never really saw them as a return of the original soaps that ran on ABC, but rather a new product loosely based on those shows– sort of like what happened with Star Trek– going from a series, to movies, to spin offs series, to more movies- and now a rebooted movie franchise. The characters might be the same but each reincarnation takes it further and further away from the original.
Interesting, I agree with ur final sentence. Takes the characters further away from the originals, u got that right, pretty soon we wont recognize them at all!
VERY well stated Mary ~ and I am just as guilty as others for not always realizing that indeed these shows are new inceptions of their former ABC-TV
versions. Some of the writing needs improvement for sure and I am hoping
for some more riveting episodes in the new Season…whenever the heck that is…LoL – well we’ve all gotten this far so let’s all hope for the best.
Thank You!
U notice that PP produced less than 50 episodes when promising many more and doesnt give us a date when they will begin again.
They’re not done producing episodes. They go back into production in August, just like they’ve been saying all along. Just because they are calling the end of this story arc a “season finale” doesn’t mean they’re finished producing the episodes they promised. There will be a new arc starting up.
When? How many episodes THIS time? How long inbetween? Why is it so hard to get information from PP? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!
Soaps don’t have “seasons” to have “finales” of. I have a BAD feeling about all this, and don’t like it ONE bit. This is QUITE distressing. š
Prime time soaps do— like Dallas– I think fans have to look at these soaps now more like those type of soaps rather than the continuing daytime dramas they were on ABC.
Michael, Kristen Alderson mentioned in your interview with her that she was supposed to meet wtih Prospect Park in June (I believe) about the possibility of shooting a few episodes for OLTL.
Can you do a follow up and find out the status of that? It would be great to see Starr back in Llanview even for just a quick visit. While I’m so glad the show is back on I’m really yearning to see more of the familiar cast.
I wait for prime time shows. I dont wait for soaps, sorry.
I would love for the fan favorite returning to be Tina Lord Roberts(Andrea Evans) !!!
I think it could be Victor…
I was under the assumption AMC & OLTL would continue without a break. Why are there more AMC episodes than OLTL? What are the resumption dates? This is all ABC/D’s fault.
OLTL stopped taping early in June because of the union dispute, and AMC taped for two weeks in February before the five week cycles started.
Being the soaps are now internet we are very blessed to have as many shows as we do.
House of Cards, and other internet shows/series, have a season of 13 episodes.
are those other shows 22-25min per episode or an hour?
I wait for prime time shows. I’ll sure has heck wait for OLTL–as long as it takes.
Someone with an intelligent response finally.
I’m concerend about this as well. I’ve never heard of season finales for soaps. Primetime drama, yes, because it’s aired weekly. Well, the reboot of the shows started out by airing four new episodes per week, then it got cut to only 2 days per week on certain days, and now both air two episodes on Mondays. I know production resumes soon for both shows so curious to know when Season 2 will premiere? This is kind of scary, but I’ll stay positive and hopefully all of us fans won’t have to wait too long. I’m curious to see who the fan favorite will be for the OLTL finale. Will it be Victor? John McBain? One of the Buchannans? Can’t wait.
Maybe, the shows can begin to air regulary on the OWN network. Only time will tell.
Um, really? You’ve never heard of Knots Landing, Dynasty, Dallas and Falcon Crest? They’re soaps and they have had scores of season finales.
Um, yes, I’ve heard of all the shows you mentioned above. I grew up in the 80’s and remember watching these shows with my mother. I was referring to season finales for daytime soaps, not primetime. With primetime soaps, the episodes aired once a week, so season finales are common and expected given the frequency. However, with daytime soaps, it’s always been aired five times a week, with no finales. It’s good to see that both shows are doing well on Hulu. This is a new form of watching the revival series of both shows, and I’ll be patient for the 2nd season premiere. Can’t wait to see the OLTL finale.
They said that there would be no break between episodes just because the actors are on a break because they were going to film enough to cover the gap. I hope this is true because this is what ABC did With their half hour shows Loving, Port Charles and the Night time sop Night Shift and we know what happened to them:(
Don’t hold your breath everyone. I think it’s important to notice what they are NOT saying more than what they have said. We all know this is a very amateur show. It would have had more of a chance on the networks (and I DO NOT INCLUDE OWN), but this venue is just not ready to handle the task. You are just getting into an episode when it suddenly stops and it’s done for the day. Bad form. No continuity of story, they just jump all around trying to fit the whole cast in. Too many holes in the stories because of this. I think you can kiss AMC goodbye. Don’t watch the other one, so cannot comment. But sounds like they have put a fork in AMC. Too bad for the real pros, Jill Larson, Darnell, Debbie, Thor (who is so pitifully cast in this new Zach role) – think that’s it – because they are so talented and always come through. The newbies are just that. Maybe 1 newbie at a time, like they used to do on the network – but an entire cast of them. Doesn’t cut it. Personally, in spite of what I thought I’d do, I have watched. But sometimes don’t even get to it until mid-week. It’s just such a non-professional effort. And as far as the less important matters at hand and allowing for PP’s budget constraints, hair and makeup are just a disaster. Maybe that sounds shallow, but it is hard to look at some of the characters. Zach needs a good bath, haircut and shave, Brooke has had that hairdo since she first appeared on AMC (and she is still hard to look at), Debbie had great hairdos on the ‘old’ AMC – not this horrid pom pom she is featuring now. The sets are just that – sets. Looks like a high school production. I think Pete is adorable and Colby is quite talented. Celia is very pretty, but has horrid posture. She is round-shouldered. If she has some kind of a problem that causes that, then I apologize for the comment. But I think this entire thing should come back re-vamped, if indeed it is coming back. Get it together PP. Your heart is there (I think) but the talent pool needs cleaning.
Well jas – I totally disagree with you! these new rebooted soaps aren’t going anywhere this is just their new programming schedule. Online doesn’t follow the same schedule as ABC sucks. This new media forum is working out little hitches as they progress and our getting better. They’ll be back AMC & OLTL. Love watching them on Hulu and I catch the repeats on Oprah. Will look forward to season 2 – Keep up the good work Prospect Park!!
Sorry to be cynical, but I just think that PP is in way over their heads with these soaps. I don’t think the company realized just how much work would be involved to get these shows back up and running and sustain them. AMC/OLTL have each been back for three months (13 weeks) with just TWO half hour episodes per week, and now they’re going to have SEASON finales?? Seriously?? I hope I’m wrong, but I have a funny gut feeling that there are problems going on behind the scenes with these shows and PP is not telling the whole story. After all, the company does not exactly have a great track record as far as telling the whole truth about this project and sticking with one plan.
As far as the future of AMC/OLTL, I personally believe that any success for these rebooted shows will hinge (at least in the short-term) on whether or not the episodes will continue to air on regular TV shortly after they premeire online, whether it’s on OWN or another outlet. If OWN drops the two shows after this 10 week “summer fling” (no matter how you slice and dice the ratings, they’re nothing special) and neither can find a new TV home, it could be curtains for these returning soaps. IMO, the revenue stream from online advertising alone won’t be enough to offset the costs involved for them to stay afloat.
I think you’re wrong.
I agree with you Chris. The signs are all there but people refuse to see it. I will be very surprised if these shows last beyond next February.
Agreed Chris.
A company that changes their business plan every other week does not give off warm fuzzy feelings! If they didn’t have their funding secured, long term, they never should have started this venture. And by long term I mean longer than THREE MONTHS!!
The seasons were always planned, but not with this huge break in between. And where are the episodes they had to take them thru September? The finale seemed oddly edited, I just felt like I was missing scenes…
Face it, PP is out of money… IF there actually is a S2 for either show I will be VERY surprised! Word is… the cast has been released to pursue other projects/work.
I guess Robin Strasser WASn’t overreacting when she went back up to CT to clean out her dressing room and bring all her personal belongings home! š
What the hell? What happened to the no break between new episodes? We soap fans are tired of being jerked around. I understand that this is new territory and PP is learning as they go along, but it seems like we are constantly being slapped with changes in the number of episodes. I have come to love the online versions of both of these soaps, but I’m so tired of being hit with distressing news everytime we turn around! Season 2 better not be too far down the road, or I’m afraid many fans will just lose interest. These are soaps, not primetime series!
Mary everything is changing and if we don’t go with the flow we will not be happy. I was really upset at first but I know that there is nothing I can do. I am hoping 1 month after they go off. Supposedly they are going back the middle of Aug. 2 more weeks.
The soaps are no longer the traditional daytime soaps.
The soaps are a product of the internet.
they will no longer run nor be managed as day time soaps.
It is silly to believe that the internet soaps will still be like on ABC, they will not.
We are extremely fortunate to have as many shows as we do, internet series have very few shows per season..
The soaps now run on a different format than network tv..
I will be eagerly awaiting for the second season of AMC and OLTL to begin š
I actually agree with one of your post!
Well FINALLY we agree on something suooo. You are right these are not traditional daytime soaps, only a web soap based on soaps that once were on network. Unfortunately PP wanted to capitalized on ABC traditional soap market to make their new web project succeed. Many former fans were mislead into thinking PP were bringing back their soaps, when the truth is they were creating a whole different product that was loosely based on the old product.
Nothing wrong with the reboot as they call it, if that is your cup of tea. But I think some former fans were mislead and understandably confused by the changes.
I think PP needs to make up its mind– they should market these shows as web soaps and stop trying to pass them off as the originals; they need to stop trying to please former fans who wanted them to be like they were on ABC, and go forward and win over the fan base they truly want, which are people like you and not me.
The great thing about media nowadays it is truly becoming a consumer driven product, where we can watch what we want, when we want and where we want and not be chained to network’s choices in those areas. Classic soaps will be just that classics– and every generation has the right and the duty to build on what was before them. So I am glad you are getting what you want, and I am glad I got to experience what I had. And we agree the two should never be confused as being the same thing.
I agree. I am sad but I know they will be back.
Mary SF š
yes, some haven’t grasped the soaps are no longer a product ot ABC Network TV.
They are in a different league, now.. The Internet..
A very good home for the soaps and a future for them to thrive..
quote;
” the soaps have consistently ranked in the top 10 on iTunes, Hulu and Hulu Plus, and have had -tens of millions- of views since their historic online debut.”
WOW!! ”tens of millions” !!!!
I will be sad to see a finale, but excited to see what Prospect Park does for Season 2. I will take oltl any way I can get it!!! I love having it back.
Theres a word for all of this, its called bulls___!
Honest to God with all the whiners, haters and bedwetters because Prospect Park isn’t behaving they want them to, get a life and grow up. Seriously. They’ve had to make course corrections during this first season and it’s their right to do so since they’re spending millions of dollars to keep “your” soaps alive. Until you write a check for a few million, quit acting like you’re entitled to call the shots.
I agree!!!
Adult spoiled brat cry-babies are very irritating and unpleasant people.
(imagine being married to one! lol
Awaiting for next season !! They’re doing so great so far.
I like the drama and suspense in our shows.
there will not be any spaces in between seasons 1&2
āWe are prepping now for next season and have more surprises and twists and turns to deliver audiencesāI am just hoping they stay on the soaps and not in our way.ā
I think tihis sentence says it all…they’re hoping for the best, but fearing the worst. We shall see…
Thanks for Seasons 1 of AMC and OLTL. Loved them. When does Season 2 start…very soon I hope.
Don’t hold your breath for ‘next season’. I truly believe there will be no such thing! So stock up on your Kleenex, take nice long walks/naps. It’s over guys – wait and see.
Oh, one last thing. Tali, you are an executive with which company? Sorry, didn’t quite catch that but I’m sure you do believe you are an expert. You impart such expertise on how the networks work as opposed to online, when you put it all out there. So enlightening!
Web based soaps have not followed the tradition of network soaps. Venice is starting season 4, The Bay had 2 seasons, Empire had 4 seasons, etc. Most only aired on a weekly basis like prime time soaps.
I think we have to start looking at web based shows as a hybrid of what we are used to seeing of daytime & prime-time on the networks. AMC & OLTL have been very successful for HULU and now that OWN is airing them (and paying a fee for the privilege) I believe PP will do their best to keep things in production. As far as I can tell none of the episodes that have aired were penned by the new writers. I am pretty sure that if they were not writing it would have come out by now. Things like that do not remain secret very long.
Hopefully, they’ll have enuff lead time going into season 2 to write enuff material to go BACK to 4-days a week.
It’s bad enuff were are down to an hour of content of each show per week, but then we have to deal with season hiatuses too?
I guess it’s better than nothing.
With time, a new writing staff, the big ratings from OWN and being in Hulu and iTunes top 10 every week they’ve been on the air, these soaps aren’t going anywhere, but I hope that’ll be enuff for them to EXPAND!
The execs stated months ago that they planned to stop filming in the summer. Early on they did plan on airing four episodes per week. However either money or ratings dictated that they hold back on episodes for airing. I believe that they have already filmed plenty of shows- and will start broadcasting again soon. both shows will be back.
.
PP did not run out of money and the ratings were very good..
They went to 2 days because way too many people were falling far behind..
The fast pace of 4 episodes a week is too fast for internet viewers..
Now for 10 weeks PP is rerunning the sops on OWN to still give those left behind a chance to catch up and to grab some new viewers. š
When does the second season start? Michael Fairman, what do you know?
Hopefully it will be a short break.
If they don’t start filming in a week or two as planned, then start worrying.
It’s been publicly documented on more than one occasion that AMC goes back into production on 8/12-while OLTL shoots again in September. People need to quit borrowing trouble
Why won’t the kettle stirrers and whiny dingleberries learn to enjoy anticipation. A few weeks off isn’t so bad – sure beats over a year off the air. It is what is – unless you have insider information – why not take the press release at face value. If PP wasn’t going to continue to support AMC/OLTL – they wouldn’t bother with a press release. Get a GRIP – all of the naysayers and nincompoops are what has driven broadcast television to the depths of extinction. Enjoy the content and LOVE the RIDE!
There is no date for the 2nd season because there is no interruptions, is what I heard..
Seems logical to me. š
They should make the two series each one hour, once a week, just like nighttime soaps. Do 13 episodes; take a hiatus, do another 13 episodes, etc.
Then there would be less repeating of lines, less crappy facial expressions ending each shot to drag the scenes out, etc.
There would be more money for less episodes so better production values, more location shoots, and most importantly, the money to bring back some of the actors who may have laughed at the internet salaries and benefits they were offered.
You may have a good idea there.
I wish #AMC and #OLTL the best of success. However, PP clearly does not have a solid plan. I am not even going to begin to speculate why and how these latest changes have popped up.
Any additional lapses in the air of shows will kill the momentum and interest built in these early episodes. I feel bad for the actors and crew. They must feel uncertaintly – even more than they already have.
PP has experience producing shows. So, these twists and turns are absurd. I have never heard more excuses and change of directions.
All PP could do to win back credibility with me is to tell what they are going to do and why and then just do it. No excuses.
#OLTL has a significant writing problem. I understand that. It is obvious with what is playing in the episodes. They need to make changes with writers and story bibles. But to continue to complain that ABC damaged their Big three characters and killed off ancillary ones is ridiculous. Without ABC using those characters – folks may not even be as interested in the return of #OLTL now. It comes across as unprofessional to keep repeating that as if they are a wronged party.
PP had better get their house in order. I am weary from excuses, reversals and even more changes literally every few weeks.
There is only so much PR spin that can be spun. There are major problems. I will take a wait and see attitude. Time is of the essence for both shows.
there are no breaks..
The second season means the actors/cast/crew that have been off for 5 weeks will start filming the 2nd season, and all will remain as is, 2 show a week, there will be no interruptions.
What has been filmed will show while the cast etc are filming season 2..
I do not understand all the panic and negitive statements and irrational people going bonkers over nothing.
agreed !
people they will be no brakes
I JUST WANT TSJ TO RETURN,
You and me both!
Clearly there are revenue issue. If McDonalds is selling fries like crazy and making a profit they will not cut back production or take the product to hiatus. Soaps are a product, just like French fries. Business decisions are being made based on profit and loss ledgers. I am not watching the reboots but when I read discussions talking about newbie characters and newbie actors I know I have moved on.
You can hardly compare McDonalds’ fries and OLTL online! You should try apples to apples not apples to fries.
TV Guide on line has OLTL ranked as number 46 in the top 103 shows most watched. And AMC comes in as well in the top 103. I would really like to know how ABC feels about that? These shows are scoring high above things like CASTLE. Katie Couric didnt even make the list.
OLTL and AMC are picking up steam and wont be going any where any time soon.
Fans of these soaps were originally promised that the soaps would continue where they left off. PP has moved very far away from that idea. If these soaps didn’t have the names AMC and OLTL we would not know they were suppose to be these soaps. There are way too many new young people in these soaps for me to adjust to. I watched AMC from its beginning but I forget to watch now. There are too few shows and they are just not interesting. Sorry but AJ and Miranda doing stupid high school things cannot hold my interest like David doing his sneaky evil things. If PP cannot produce quality daily shows, I think many people will just quit watching. I am not trying to be a downer. I don’t like cauliflower so you can’t make me eat it by calling it AMC cauliflower. I hope the shows survive and they pick up new viewers but the old fan base is going to give up at some point.
This old fan isn’t. The shows are different but I’m watching. OLTL will have new writers when they start season 2, so maybe they’ll improve.
I do agree that AJ and Miranda’s teen-aged antics don’t interest me, but every Summer the soaps concentrate on younger storylines. ALL MY CHILDREN really needs Tad Martin back as played by Michael E. Knight, and really needs Susan Lucci back as Erica Kane. Without these core characters, the show doesn’t quite hold up for me, but I am willing to hang in there to see where it goes. Some episodes are better than others but maybe Season two will be stronger.
YUP, been watching for 41 years and the younger set are okay but way too much time is put into them. We have lost the core of our show with only a smattering of Joe Martin and no Erica or Liza. MEK has got to make it back to the show and not like they have Griffin on either. I mean have we even seen him more then once or twice. Give Opal some meaty parts. I miss so many of our old timers. And this Colby just doesn’t do it for me at all. Neither does JR or AJ they look nothing like they should. Love David as usual.
Oh yeah, I miss Adam and Stuart, and Krystal too.
Old fan base won’t give up because I for one won’t. But I sure do wish they had more shows and less ads and they were an hour long. I also want to see my old favorites on the show. Not people I have no idea who the holy heck they are.
To be fair, Opal has had more to do than she did for a decade at ABC. MEK is not ready to come back–that’s been said time and time again. If you can’t get an actor back–that’s not the show’s fault. We also get less ads than we did at ABC–the shows (without ads) are about 25 minutes. A 30 min soap on network tv currently has 18 minutes of programming–an hour soap about 36 (back in the 70s this was more around 40 minutes, like primetime.)
Wow, all this bitching and moaning. My take is really if people don’t like the product, than don’t watch. Why waste the energy coming on here and bemoaning how these shows are not what you wanted.
Without PP we would have *nothing*. It’s not like they took away the chance for a reboot of the network soaps–and frankly, the past decade of ABC Daytime under Frons has not been great. Case in point, currently GH the past month has been unwatchable (IMHO,) stories that should have resonance like a baby with cancer play with no emotion, and we are stuck with stories that almost seem to mock soap opera. On the other hand AMC and OLTL currently are being written more like they were in their glory days.
ABC recently ahs gotten so conservative, that they barely even let characters MENTION the word abortion, let alone have one–yet AMC online managed to deal with the subject, and give fair eight to all the points of view about the issue, just as it would have before. I could go on… (In his last years on ABC, David on OLTL was written as a full out clown–he was not a character you could picture existing in the real world. Now, while David is still largely comic relief, he also has a realistic side to him.)
As for the model. PP are a work in progress. They’re figuring out how to make this work. I wish they would do more episodes a week (at least three) and would stop throwing all these curveballs–but I understand that they jumped into this VERY quickly and are figuring things out as they go. The actual quality of the content on both soaps improves each week–so obviously they’re doing that part right.
The fact that, listening to Jen Pepperman’s interview, you hear fans calling and BLAMING her and PP for their favorite characters not returning, shows how out of touch with reality some are. If the actors won’t or can’t come back, there’s nothing the show can do.
But, really, either you like the product or you don’t. If you don’t–don’t watch. Nobody owes the fans anything, all they can do is do what they think is best.
Hey after putting in 41+ years with this show I have earned my right to moan. I am not complaining that PP brought it back wrong, they just need more of what we loved for all those years. It wasn’t broke just screwed over.
LoL ~ that’s true, I have watched for 30+ years and I really miss Michael E Knight as Tad, and Susan Lucci as Erica Kane as well as others. I am NOT knocking AMC on-line but really, it just doesn’t have the familiar tone or atmospheric surroundings of the Pine Valley most of us remember. How much more storyline can they get out of young Miranda not picking up that A.J. is into her as more than a friend – c’mon now, really, they need to write something a bit more compelling than that regardless of the so-called demographic they are trying to please.
Does this mean there won’t be shows on every week after THE finale! Please put our soaps back on the way they USD to be on tv , e everyday every week PLEASE
THANK YOU

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos to Kick Off Season 36 of ‘Live’ with New Show Opening

The new season of morning talk shows begins this week, and one of them, Live with Kelly and Mark, is starting things off with a new show open starring the hosts and married couple, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, formerly of All My Children fame.
Make sure to circle Tuesday September 5th, when Kelly and Mark begin their first official season together as co-hosts of the long-running show now in its 36th season.Ā As many know, Consuelos joined the show back in April of this year, after Ryan Seacrest made the decision to depart the series and move back to Los Angeles full-time, since the talker is shot in New York City.
In the concept of the new opening, the husband and wife duo are seen brushing their teeth in their apartment, then going through a couple of outfit changes/looks, before they settle on what they wearing as they are driven to their New York City studio where ‘Live’ emanates from, and arrive in its corridors.

Kelly Ripa Teases New Season of ‘Live’ with Husband Mark Consuelos: “Our Show Is Best When It’s Going Off the Rails”

Since Mark Consuelos joined his real-life wife, Kelly Ripa on the morning talk show Live with Kelly and Mark, the ratings have never been better.Ā In fact, according to the Nielsen ratings, the former All My Children stars came in second behind The View for the 2022-2023 television season in total viewers averaging 2.293 million.
Now with the new season upon us come September, Ripa spoke with the Purist about what fans can expect now that Mark is coming into his own as her co-host.
Kelly shared, “Weāre going to provide the same sort of humor and irreverence that people have come to know and love. Mark has taken the trivia game, where Ryan (Seacrest) and I would just give away coffee mugs to the audience, and decided that heās not going to do that any more. There are no participation trophies in life, he says. If they want to win a mug, theyāre going to have to stump me. I donāt really follow the ratings, but from what Iāve been told that since Mark has taken over, people stay with the show all the way through because they want to see whether or not Mark gets stumped.”

When asked what favorite segment on Live is her current favorite, Ripa expressed, “I love talking to the trivia callers. Our show is best when itās going off the rails, when our audience gets to see the slip-ups. It is not this highly polished, Hollywood thing. It is two people meeting, having coffee, having just read the paper. We never cover actual news, we cover absurd news. When you factor in a person calling from their cellphone in the parking lot of a grocery store, what have you, it is rife with the ability to derail very quickly, and I think thatās what I love the best. I also love our viewer feedback at the very end of the show, where we take our viewers.”
So, are you looking forward to more Live with Kelly and Mark? Enjoying the duo on-screen together on the morning talker? What are your favorite staple segments from the show? Comment below.
