In just terrible and heartbreaking news to report on Tuesday, Tyler Christopher, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor best known for roles as Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital, and then as Stefan DiMera on Days of our Lives, has passed away at the age of 50.

The news of his death came from his friend and longtime GH co-star, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) on Instagram, who shared that Christopher died this morning in his  San Diego, California apartment.  No cause of death was immediately revealed.

The statement, accompanied by a photo of Tyler, shared: “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher. Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment. Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him. Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”

Christopher played GH’s Nikolas Cassadine from 1996 to 2016. Later, he played DAYS’ Stefan DiMera from 2017 to 2019. Throughout his daytime career, Tyler was nominated five times for an Emmy and won the Lead Actor prize back in 2016.

Frank Valentini, executive producer of General Hospital, took to X to share this statement: “I am heartbroken over the news of Tyler Christopher’s passing. He was kind, an incredible actor, and dear friend, who was beloved by our GH family and fans of Nikolas Cassadine. On behalf of everyone at General Hospital, our heartfelt sympathies go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Tyler is survived by his two children, Greysun James Christopher and Boheme Christopher, both from his marriage to former ESPN reporter, Brienne Pedigo. The two reportedly divorced back in 2021. Previously, the actor was married to Y&R and Desperate Housewives alum, Eva Longoria from 2002 to 2004.

Throughout his life, Tyler battled alcohol and substance abuse.  In May of this year, Christopher was arrested at the Hollywood Burbank Airport for public intoxication. He was arrested for a similar incident in 2019 when he fell asleep in the back of an Uber.

In another incident, Tyler had been placed under guardianship by his sister, after he fell, hit his head and underwent life-saving brain surgery, which he had spoken publicly about with Bloomberg and later with Maurice Benard on his You Tube series, State of Mind.

We will continue to update you as development warrants on the death of Tyler Christopher.

Shit….

I was really hoping he could get it together and come back from this. When he last appeared on State of Mind with Maurice, he seemed to be on the correct path.

Then there was the “airport incident” a few months ago. And apparently he never came back from that.

Condolences to the family, and all of those who also were hoping for him to make it.

After everything he’s endured this is just… heartbreaking. However, I am hoping he is at peace finally. RIP, Mr. Christopher!!

Oh, NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! What horrible news. I am heartbroken. He was such as lovable soul and wonderful actor. He was the definitive Nikolas Cassadine. We need more mental health resources. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Thank you Tyler for sharing your amazing talent with all of us. May you rest in peace.

He was incredible as Nikolas. It’s a terrible tragedy and I will remember him for all of the great scenes he had on GH for twenty years. Condolences to his family, friends and castmates. May he rest in peace.

Sorry for his family loss and loved ones..

I never use the common RIP- no time to rest.

Tyler Christopher has a journey..Tyler, have a blessed journey to your forever life.

SuOOO
What a beautiful sentiment. I feel as you do for his family, especially his kids which I don’t think he got to see much of in recent years, due to his ongoing problems. He was a wonderful actor, whom I loved so much in DOOL as well as GH. I just read what the younger Spencer wrote about Tyler playing his dad years ago. I know he meant every word because they played their parts so believably so. I’ll never forget when Spencer was burned and the love and compassion Tyler brought forth to his part, coaxing the young Stephen to follow through with the very touching SL. O.K, I’ll shut up, I could go on all day about this man.

I am so saddened to hear this.

So sad he was so talented. I am so sad!

Truly sad, but not shocking. Tyler was a troubled soul that never got that turnaround that so many were hoping for him. May his family take comfort in this sorrowful time.

Sonya, Jackie, Billy and Tyler – what a horrible year for GH. Along with behind the scenes N’Neka and Craig, how much more death can one show endure?

RIP Tyler. A fine actor.

The only Nikolas Cassadine in my book. Rest in Peace. Prayers to his family and his children

Oh such sad news. I pray for his family. I hope he’s at peace now. I remember how humble he was during his Emmy acceptance speech. I remember him, during that speech, thanking Stephen Nichols and holding up a book Stephen had given him when he was a teenager. Years later, when he was on Maurice’s program, I was happy to see him doing better and hoping one day he could be our Nikolas again..

He was not a teenager. He was 23 when he joined GH.

Tyler was a kind human being with an amazing personality and a gifted soul. Always incredibly giving as an actor you need to just stand and watch in awe as he performed. Giving you everything that you needed to elevate your performance and making you want to step up your game just by being in scenes with him. There was just something amazing there. My brother and I both had the opportunity to work with him at different points in our acting career and while my interest in acting faded long ago, I never forgot the opportunity I had to work with him. Aside from being an incredible actor, he seemed like an overall caring person, who loved his craft and his family and was fun to be around. I followed his career from afar and was saddened to hear of the troubles he later endured. I, like many of his fans, wanted nothing more than for him to triumph over the adversity that had plagued him for so long. I am so saddened by his passing, for the world lost a truly great soul. My heart goes out to his family and his friends and to all of us who were impacted by Tyler in some way. Whether that was in person, or watching his performances on our screens. Truly one of a kind. He will be greatly missed.

This is absolutely horrible !!! When the hell does this stop !! Does anybody give a flying shit to help these people thru their addictions ?? Are all of you so obsessed with yourselves that you don’t care ?? He needed help and did you do nothing ?? I am heartbroken ! Breaking my heart

Who are you aiming this post at? Who are you screaming at that did nothing?

My literal heart is breaking I predicted this and I wish I had been wrong !

I am shocked too, that he is gone too.

RIP, Tyler…..

This is heartbreaking, my heart hurts with this sad news. Tyler was a wonderful actor and I am devastated by his death. May he RIP ❤️

A friend texted me a screenshot of a news report of his death. At the time, I was at a social engagement. I briefly caught a glimpse of Tyler Christopher’s picture — didn’t have my reading glasses with me — and I assumed it was a story about Christopher returning to GH or some other show. When I had time to read the story, and others elsewhere, I was in shock. I am still in shock and feeling such sadness. Such a talented, dynamic, young man with so much to offer and so much of life ahead. My heart sincerely goes out to his loved ones…

I thought it was one of those phony death reports we’ve seen, at least I have lately. How do these “people” get away with claiming someone has died recently?

I’m stunned at this news. I’m 54 (soon to be 55 in December) and my health isn’t that great and to see Tyler being taken from this world at 50 is beyond comprehension and makes me appreciate the fact that I’m still alive and kicking. My condolences go out to his many fans, former co-workers and his family, especially his children. Rest in power Tyler.

I just saw the news on the front page of Yahoo when I came on to check my e-mail. I am absolutely floored by this, just stunned and heartbroken.

Tyler was one of my favorites on GH for many years. I had been hoping for a long time to see him overcome his personal issues and be able to triumphantly return as Nikolas. For this to be the way the story ends, what a tragic end for such a talented actor.

Times like this really make me question the way things work in this life, good, decent people like Tyler, Billy Miller, Jackie Z, Sonya, and countless others are taken far too soon, while lowlife rotten bastard human beings are allowed to walk the earth. It doesn’t make sense.

Forever the original and the best Nikolas Cassadine. Rest in Peace, Tyler.

Wow, this is heartbreaking… GH has lost so many kind souls this year. Sonya, Jackie, Billy and now Tyler… so sad.

No way!! WOW—all these celebrities dying too young, too soon..So sad!! May he find peace in his eternal rest.

Great actor I follow him on both shows his death will not be un notice he helped lot

Marla Adams, The Young and the Restless’ Dina Mergeron, Dies at 85

Marla Adams, best known for portraying matriarch, Dina Abbott Mergeron on CBS’ The Young and the Restless for 37 years, died on April 25, 2024, in Los Angeles. The news came from Y&R’s Director of Media and Talent, Matt Kane.

Throughout her veteran soap opera career, Marla appeared had appeared on Secret Storm (in her other longest running soap role as Bell Clemens from 1988-1974), The Bold and the Beautiful (ex-Beth Logan), Days of our Lives (ex-Dr. Claire McIntyre), Generations (ex- Helen Mullin), General Hospital (ex-Mildred Deal) and Capitol (ex-Myrna Clegg).

However, it was her role as Y&R’s upper crust Dina, who abandoned her children and her marriage to John Abbott (the late Jerry Douglas) that was her most memorable role. Throughout the years, Dina would have several romantic reunions with John, but in 2017, the character returned to Genoa City to reunite with her estranged family. Dina was the on-screen mother to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson), Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman).

As for Adams, she joined Y&R in 1982, but left the soap three years later her contract expired. She returned to Genoa City for stints in 1991, 1996 and 2008 before being asked by then Y&R head writer-producer Sally Sussman to return in 2017, which would begin the top-rated daytime drama telling the story of Alzheimer’s disease. Through Dina, the show shed light on a person going through the perils of the illness, and how the family copes and tries to come to terms with its fate.

In fact, Marla took home the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2021 for her work in the storyline, She had previously been nominated in 2018.

Speaking with Michael Fairman TV, Marla shared on her final scenes on Y&R when Dina passed away and was reunited with John Abbott, “It was heart-wrenching for me.  In the story, Dina died when she went outside and to the front door of the Abbott home.  They did not tell me before-hand, and that’s why it was so wonderful.  I hope they came in for a closeup of that because I had no makeup on, it was beautiful, and then, Dina said, “Oh, John.”  I’ve done everything from movies, to daytime, to nighttime, to Broadway, but that was the iconic moment for me, to do this gig with wonderful, wonderful actors and friends, and to do this particular storyline.

Born in Ocean City, New Jersey, on August 28, 1938, Adams’ love for the stage was ignited after winning the Miss Ocean City and Miss Cape May pageants and finishing as a runner-up in the Miss New Jersey pageant. She also fondly remembered being the Miss Diamond Jubilee Queen during the 1954 celebration of the 75th anniversary of Ocean City’s founding.  A student at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, Adams appeared on Broadway in the 1958 production of The Visit at the Morosco Theatre with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne and starred as June in the 1961 feature film, Splendor in the Grass

Over the span of her decades long career, Adams starred in more than 40 productions including television’s: The Golden Girls, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, The New Dick Van Dyke ShowHarry OAdam-12Starsky and HutchMarcus Welby, M.D.Barnaby Jones, and the feature film, Beneath the Leaves.

In a statement, Y&R’s current head writer and executive producer, Josh Griffith expressed, “On behalf of the entire company of The Young and the Restless, we send our deepest sympathies to Marla’s family. REPORT: Nicholas Chavez Not Returning to General Hospital

For those who were holding out hope that Daytime Emmy winner and fan favorite, Nicholas Chavez would be returning to General Hospital after filming his leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, it looks like those hopes have been dashed.

According to a report from TV Line, although unconfirmed from General Hospital or a representative for Chavez, the actor will not reprise his role as Spencer Cassadine on the long-running ABC soap opera and continue the love story of Sprina opposite Tabyana Ali (Trina, GH).

Chavez was cast as Lyle Menendez over the the summer of 2023 for the second season of Murphy’s limited Monsters series on Netflix. In the upcoming season, the series will focus on the the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the two well-to-do Beverly Hills brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989.

After word from Chavez casting was revealed, GH fans were concerned over the fate of the Sprina story, a spokesperson for GH shared,  “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

In story, the series “killed off” Spencer when he went overboard with Esme to the steely waters below after being injected with a drug, thanks to Esme and falling into the Seine River in France. However, his body was never recovered, and believed to have drowned or washed away. Thus, leaving an opening for Spencer to return in the form of Chavez or be recast down the line.

TV Line shared that ‘multiple sources’ are confirming that Chavez is not returning to the ABC soap opera, which is what many had suspected might be the case once he left for this major starring role in a Ryan Murphy project. Chavez has been relatively quiet on social media for months.
