Reports are in that Van Hughes, who is currently on tour with the hit musical American Idiot is set to reprise the role of Cole Thornhart to help bring Kristen Alderson’s Starr Manning to General Hospital and the Port Charles canvas.

Alderson will make her GH debut the week of February 20. And the week of February 27th marks the arrivals into Port Chuck of Blair and Todd, played by Kassie DePaiva and Roger Howarth!

So how do you think they are going to explain Starr ending up in the mobster filled city? Why would Cole just leave her there, or would he?  Let us know, what you think new head writer, Ron Carlivati and his writing team may be setting up for the Llanview favorite on her new soap home!

I rather keep Starr with Cole then not with him at all. And what about Hope?

AMEN!

Well Cole is presumed dead, so if they thought someone was catching on to him being alive, they’d probably be on the move and leave LA. If it were me, I’d have Starr run into Dillon or Brook Lynn while in LA working on her music, and have one of them suggest Port Charles as a good place to lay low from the cops. I don’t think Cole would leave her, but they could be discovered by the cops, and Cole could be sent back to prison.

i’m excited for anything that keeps GH going. Any buzz is better then none, and if sister soap OLTL can help them the better. For me is a win win situation as I am both a GH and OLTL fan. I don’t know where i fall in the percentage. i.e fan of both shows vs fan of only one or the other show. So, i’m sure there will be those who will hate it, those who don’t care and those who are looking foward to whats going to develop. Hopefully it will all be Great.

Given ABC’s obsession with cutting costs to increase profits, GH fans needn’t worry that Van Hughes or any of the other OLTL cast will be in Port Charles any longer than is necessary to lure some OLTL fans to GH.

maybe she is on “tour” and cole is with her and then he mysteriously disappears in PC
– then Blair and Todd come to help and then John goes undercover to find him? lol

I don’t get it-Cole coming back on the convas but no Natalie for John? I thought GH wanted viewers. John and Natalie fans would come over for their story-RC should be picking the low hanging fruit-why worry about luring new viewers when you have an existing fan base looking for a reason to watch.

I am hoping that this storyline leads to many more actors coming from OLTL. ABC made a big mistake cancelling OLTL so right now I will take what I can get.

I am glad to see any of my oltl people and it can only improve gh.

Snore!

I never liked the character of, Cole. I don’t know why they didn’t just leave him to run off to his parents. I HATE the fact that the show was cancelled, but at least we get a small part of them on GH (which I am having a hard time getting into always found it boring). I will get hooked once my beloved OLTL characters make their appearance on GH. Thankful that I have that to look forward to after they took the only show I was dedicated to watching off the air for good.

Terrible of those of any of you to put Cole down. Snore, dont watch.

I can see you’re young. Tantrum “don’t watch”…seriously?! Opinions were asked and people are giving them. There is always someone waiting to pounce and attack anyone who doesn’t share the same opinion as their own. If you don’t agree, write your opinion to the page owners instead of verbal attacks. Grow up!

Her being on the show is dumb and Cole is even dumber. They should should of introduced her as a new character. Now we have to hear her whine about Cole…UGH!

NO! You’re wrong. SOLE is way too cute to be kept apart.

I’m SOOOOOO excited!

at google news ,then I went to atv they said that cole and natalie are going to port charles,so it looks like john and nat will be together.still , Im missing one life to live,Im so lost at 2 oclock and the hour goes so slow which doesnt help,I watch dool at 1 ,so its at 2 that I feel so let down I want landview back ,maybe I should write more at that time to abc annoying them more then I already am now.I keep telling them the same thing over and over and I tell them to give agnes her shows back ,that IM no longer watching abc except for general hospital, that I hate there stupid new shows and refuse to watch them ,and who is going to watch katie couric?thats it.,I just dont trust abc with general hospital.

I am mourning the loss with you.:'(

I refuse to watch Revolution too. Too upset by it replacing OLTL. I am hoping it will make them notice a loss in viewers in that time frame. If all fans did the same, I would hope it could make a difference, but with everyone finding new jobs, I guess it’s hopeless now.

ABC SID reported today that there are no plans to bring Melissa Archer to GH (yay!) – nothing against the actress, just no more Jolie, thank God! Now they can put him w/someone that actually shares chemistry w/him (KeMo?).

I guess natalie is not going to port charles at that atv sight they said she was,to bad ,Im looking forward to ron carlivati s first episode day ,I hope that all the newbes will be let go because its boring, poor ethan the girl he is with ,I dont like her at all ,If I was in charge there are at least 7 people who i would give walking papers to,and if I was michaels mother I would kick him in the ass so hard there would be a indent mark reminding him who I am,what he did to carley about her keeping it a secret that jax is alive ,well I already said what I would do,but its everyday someone is telling michael not to be in the mob ,its just another recycled story .I think michael should get a new story line or put him back in a coma for another year or two ,I always liked that kid ,but enough already, give the kid a new script.

When does Ron Carlivati’s first episode air?

I am soooo glad that Cole is coming to GH.

The one thing that annoys me about soap operas is recasts. I wish it was Brandon. Not only do you grow to the character after so many years, but the actor who protrays that character. Sole scenes are weird without Brandon. Van is okay and all but it’s not the same. I’ll still watch because of my love for OLTL, it just won’t be the same. Still very curious to see how this is all going to play out with OLTL characters coming to PC. I almost wish they were all playing new, fresh characters.

*Not only do you grow to LOVE the character after so many years,

Long live ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Here’s hoping for the Llanview takeover of GH. That’s the only way I’ll tune in. They cancelled the wrong show. That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.

They did not canceled the wrong show. One Life to Live had performed poorly for more than 5 years. It’s only after One Life to Live got the axe that it started to gain viewers and be ahead of General Hospital. The last 8 months of One Life to Live, as good as they were, do not make up for the awful ratings the show had for past few years.

I personally prefer One Life to Live over General Hospital. But, I’m also capable accepting the facts when I see them .

Last time I checked, this is still America, and I have a right to my opinion.

Hi Heather, I like your thoughts in your post and I see you converse with one of my favorite people on here. I absolutely love One Life To Life, and the show has been VERY GOOD long……….before the cancelation (notice) last year, so I dont agree withg you there, ” that it only got good after it got the axe that”. OLTL was EXCELLENT way back and (before) they brought Brenda back to GH and made a mockery out of that..! So it’s been more than the last” 8 months”, that it’s been good. BUT, I have to agree with you when you say, current ratings “do not make up for the awful ratings the show has had for the past few years”. Let’s agree, the ratings were bad Heather, but it’s NOT because the show (itself) wasn’t GOOD.
As for GH, although it has had some less than interesting storylines lately, GH has an had a ‘stream of years’ where they were RACKING UP Emmy’s for Best Daytime Serial, and Writing. So with that said, I’m with you again when U say,
” Hey I love OLTL, but I’m capable of accepting the facts when I see them”. Personally, I am tired of reading as well, they cancelled the wrong show. I love all 3 of them, each soap equally, and at different times of the year(s) based on the storyline, that (particular) soap becomes my favorite soap. I have grown tired of the over the top character/actor on AMC (which I once adored) and I love Sonny (and still do) but has grown tired of everything Sonny. OLTL I found to be very balanced not catering to anyones STAR POWER or Ego’s. If storylines dictated, that character player may have been on somewhat more, BUT there was no ” in your face ” (over abundance) like GH, or playing to EGO and favoritism of an over the top AMC character/actor. People should also understand, that because of the mob and danger on GH, it ATTRACTS allot of males, and people that aren’t looking for the soapy soapy stuff. GH is OVER-ALL the most popular of the 3 and has been for a very long time from Luke and Laura up to Sonny and Brenda, and because of that, PERHAPS thats why it didn’t get cancelled and people need to stop saying it (I agree) because they are going to speak that enery into the universe, and then it will get cancelled. Why do they think that GH was considered for a night time serial? Why? Because…… of the mob, danger and adventure of the show! It’s attracts the male market, and those families that watch this type of programing at night. People on here were saying, they should of considered nightime for OLTL (sure I would have liked that to save my soap and see my Vicki) but do people REALLY think that a night time audience is going to tune in to see the story of Gigi play her sister same face, including that soapy serial stuff with Rex moping around thinking he has saw her? No! But they will tune in at night to watch the mob, danger, adventures, guided by strong handsome men and a attractive (Carly) sleeping her way around two rivels, So I conclude, like you, ” I am also capable of accepting the facts when I see them” by me taking EVERYTHNG into consideration.
*1loveabc

I didn’t say that One Life to Live wasn’t good before its last 8 months. I said that its ratings weren’t. There’s a difference.I never stopped enjoying OLTL. But its ratings in 2009 and 2010 didn’t left me any insurrance that OLTL would last very long, especially with the way CBS was canceling its soap operas at the time. If it was up to me One Life to Live would still be on the air as we speak. But, on the other hand, I find it wrong in every level for people to say that General Hospital should have canceled instead of OLTL.

First, it creates division within the soap opera community and we, as soap operas fans, shouldn’t fight each other or wishing that another soap gets canceled instead of ours. That’s juvenile and unwarranted. I almost never watch B&B, but never has it crossed my mind that it should have been canceled instead of OLTL.

Secondly, OLTL fans are forgetting that for more than 30 years (including when the cancellation annoucement was made) GH was always ahead of OLTL in the ratings. OLTL beating GH was recent development. Prior to May 2011, we have to go in history all the back to the 1970s to see OLTL beating GH on a regular basis the way it did in its 8 last months, So as much as I think that ABC made a big mistake to cancel OLTL (and hope that they pay for it one day), I do NOT think that ABC made a mistake by choosing GH over OLTL.

either way ,they did cancel the wrong soap ,general hospital sucks Ive watched gh sine day1 ,and it has never been as bad as it is now,one life to live is class general hospital has been a killing field for a very long time ,I still wonder why I have stuck with it as long as I have,IM STILL WATCHING,Im hoping for a big change now with the new writers ,whether one live to live had lower ratings then gh which I dont believe becacuse the over 49 werent counted taping wasnt counted and soapnet was not counted, and ABC LIES,and to believe that rating stuff ,well I dont buy it and Idont buy that the chew ,spew is doing good either ,by the way is everyone annoying abc with daily calls? and also writing letters ,hell, Im protesting all over the place and I still will not watch anything on abc except for general hospital, never will until our soap opera problem is solved and abc goes down on there knees begging for forgiveness for canceling my soaps.

“whether one live to live had lower ratings then gh which I dont believe becacuse the over 49 werent counted taping wasnt counted and soapnet was not counted, and ABC LIES,and to believe that rating stuff ,well I dont buy it ”

But Barbara, if the over 49 years old and Soapnet viewers were not counted on One Life to Live’s ratings, that also means that they were not counted on General Hospital’s ratings as well.

I just lost everything I just wrote ,yes I do believe abc lied about the ratings the only ratings that are counted are at the time the show is on ,live, not taped, not on soapnet, and the 49 year olds are not counted look at the ages of the groups the 49ers are not there Its 49 and under, and there are alot of us who believe the wrong show got tossed ,one life to live is far better soap than general hospital it has rich history general hospital doesnt have that, there history is slowly getting killed off by the mob.and they are hardly ever on monica ,edward, bobbi, killed alan killed aj just stupid sonny, the mob took over and thats ,g h every story goes to sonny ,enough already, cant wait to see what ron and frank are going to do.anyway maybe gh did better at 3 then oltl at 2 but all the other ratings for that show were thrown out the back door with frons ,which I still dont understand why he got fired ,I stake my life on it that abc knows they canceled the wrong show and now its to late,so all they can do is sent a few people over from landview to port charles and hope we follow them there.I would love to be a fly on the abc wall and find out the real truth behind frons getting tossed out with abcs mark on his ass ,we will never know, but abc lies they used susan lucci to go on the road with her book ,telling everyone the soaps are not getting canceled, now abc is happy with the chews ratings who watches that kind of show?that still blows my mind ,are there really that many stupid people out there?I dont know maybe there is, all I know is abc is not going on in my house except when general hospital is on.so ,if you believe the rating system your right ,I dont go along with it ,so maybe Im wrong ,either way we all loose ,and one life to live is gone ,the end ,finis,is that how it is spelled?Im afraid to push the sumit button, because someone made a comment here about spelling a while back ,so I try to make sure my works are correct.or close.

i dont really care about cole i would love to see star n michael together!!

I hope he doesn’t come… we don’t need more people from this cast.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
