I’m not sure how I feel about Molly possibly joining Venice. I like her, but if she will play Gina’s secret child w/Richard as has been rumored, that is just a big turn-off to me. I wish Jessica and the other East Coasters had been able to sign stuff, too, before it all went up on the site. Venice is beginning to feel more and more like DOOL.

Cool and thanks for the pics Michael. CC is business savvy and smart and I am sure will have an East Coast signing. Not sure what the few ppl whining expect? Should she fly the East Coasters in for this? Besides that can be taken care of when they are filming in September. DOOL sucks but Venice has brought out the best in GG and NB. I look forward to Molly joining no matter what the character.

Saying that you wish something is whining? Wow, then I’ve been whining every year on my birthday, when I blow out the candles.

CC didn’t have to fly out the east coasters, just drop a box of t-shirts off at FedEx addressed to JL or HBS. They could have gotten the east coasters together for an hour, signed the stuff and sent it back in time for the Vshop relaunch. To her credit, CC obviously realized that, since she said in her last blog that she was sending stuff for the east coast cast to sign. Better late than never, eh?

We’ll have to agree to disagree about Venice bringing out the best in the Days actors, since that’s all subjective. I’m glad that you’re looking forward to Molly, even if she’s playing a lovechild, but let me assure you that others are not and it’s more than just a few. Some clarification would go a long way right now, just sayin’.

#FreeAni

I don’t watch Days of our Lives. I have never been interested in that soap. So I don’t really have much interest in the Days of our Lives actors on Venice. I’m very excited about season 3 of Venice only because of Jessica Leccia. I love Jessica’s portrayal of Ani Martin. I hope Jessica Leccia will be more involved in the promotions of season 3 of Venice as I think she’s Venice’s biggest asset (and MVP). I will wait to buy signed merchandise when items from Jessica Leccia and the East coast actors become available.

I agree. I am sure Molly is lovely but if she is the love child, it is the end of Venice for me (and by reading comments elsewhere) many, many others. Hopefully CC truly understands who her base is for Venice. No offense to anyone but the majority of those watching are from the Otalia base and not the Carbo base.

I also dread the love child. I miss the eas coasters. This gift to Otalia fans is starting to feel more like a second DOOL for carbo fans.

Don’t have a problem with Molly B. joining but like Chrissie hoping its not to play Gina and Richards love child. She’s whiny because she wants east coast cast members to be included more than last year….yeah sorry…CC had to know peeps would want JL,HBS.GT,TS and LK sign merch. as well.

I’m looking forward to Gina and Ani’s journey….the Colonel…Guya and Katie…also hope we get more Michelle and Jamie scenes. Team JL/Giani

Guess we will have to wait to see what Molly’s role is then those who be “finished with Venice” can make their decision then. CC was not just one half of the popular Otalia but one half of the super couple that was Bo and Carly. That was a very vocal fan base that supported her DOOL stint. Before Otalia aka the sexless love story there was Bo and Carly.

And I’m sure they will.

It was a vocal fanbase, but not a large one and also, Otalia fans supported her Days stint, as well.

I don’t know what exactly your point is with your last line and honestly I don’t know what it has to do with Venice the Series. You know the series that was created for Otalia fans who had to endure the ‘sexless love story’ and was supported in every way by Otalia fans. If CC wants to do the same for her Carbo supporters, I say go for it. She’s a very generous person in that respect, but trying to please both fan bases in one series is just not a good idea. That’s all that’s being said.

i am just looking forward to galen gering anything he will do is fine with me

I see the lynch mob is already starting to form for crystal, and she hasn’t even filmed an episode, lol. And the leccia fanatics are getting lined up to join the mob if leccia isn’t made the star of venice, lol.Poor crystal everyone loves her as long as she does everything they demand, don’t do something the mob wants just once and the mob wants to lynch her. her.Must feel like season one all over again for crystal lol.

Hey olddoolfan/gldoolfan/realitycheck/JimJames. Still blaming those ‘leccia fanatics’ for everything I see, lol. I bet they’re the reason for all those crazy storms that have been happening across the US,lol. I bet Jessica’s fans feel like it’s youtube all over again. #Loveislouder

If wanting JL autograph merch makes someone a Leccia fanatic…then i’m a fanactic and proud of it.JL fanbase is no different than any of the other cast members fanbase who want to see they’re favorite with a big storyline or some autograph V gear.So when Carbo or any other fanbase voice they’re opinion they’re being vocal but when Otalia/JL fans do their being fanactics….we’re just being vocal. As far as a sexless couple as someone said (and only proves Carbo fans got more closure than otaliafans)Otalia was a very powerful storyline that formed a family, fanfic and boards and after two years is still going strong.Have no problem with dool cast have a problem when we voice our opinions we are automatically labeled…This isn’t kindergarten peeps are allowed to have opinions.

I hardly believe there is a lynch mob forming nor do I believe it is about making Jessica a star.

I realize it is hard to keep the fans completely happy given cast are on opposite coasts of the U.S. and since Crystal is on the West coast of course it is easier to have gatherings with and merchandise autographed by those out West. There is a fanbase for those actors on the East coast and those fans can be quite vocal. There is nothing wrong with that and I am quite sure Crystal has developed a thick skin by now or she would not be in the business and giving hers fans Venice or any othe web series she may develop.

Can’t we all get along? You like it you watch and support. You don’t like it, life goes on.

I personally think we are very lucky to be able to buy anything signed at all. How many shows do this? Not many if any i know of so i think we should all feel very lucky that Crystal is giving the personal touch to the merchandise and people have to understand that it isn’t always possible to have everyone in the same place at the same time. Again remember these actors are not being paid alot for this show so it is a labour of love and we need to appreciate what they are giving us out of the goodness of their hearts. Another thing in respect to it becoming more like DOOLs than Otalia… it may have a fair few DOOL cast however they are not playing DOOLs charactors and also it is with a superior story to the crap DOOLs gives them. I personally love to see these actors being challenged and don’t at all look at it like it’s an extension of DOOL. I for one say well done Crystal and all the rest of the cast and crew and i will support you always because of the love and committment you have given to us.
Regards
@venicepolice

I can’t wait to see what crystal has in store for us in v 3.Personally i love everyone acting in venice. They have great chemistry and it comes out in the show.I reallly hope their is a secret child story with crystal ,peter and molly.Crystal will do it right im sure. This will be a real treat for all the fans of carly mel and bo.I like the way crystal is drawing in other fan bases, its good for venice.

It is good to draw in other fan bases, no doubt, but not at the expense of a fan base you already have. What’s the point of drawing in new viewers, if you lose just as many or even more? Of course, all of this is speculation and has not been confirmed or denied, which is what I think most people, with concerns, would like to find out. A simple yes or no would end everything right here, so I hope Mr. Fairman will be able to shed some light in his new interview with CC. As Otalia fans know, CC is able to spoil us, without giving everything away.

Of course it would be hard to get the east coast and west coast actors together at the same time. However there were numerous ways that Crystal and her team could have gotten signed merchandise from Jessica Leccia and the other east coast actors before the re-opening of the VShop. Crystal and her team could have easily sent Venice merchandise to NYC and had the actors sign it weeks or months ago. I’m sure Crystal and her team know that Jessica as well as the other east coast actors are also very popular with the Venice audience. A lot of fans have been requesting Crystal and her team that they would also like some merchandise with both Jessica and Crystal’s signatures which is reasonable. So it only makes business sense to have the most sought after merchandise available at the earliest to get more money in the coffers as quickly as possible to help fund Venice.

Venice is not some gift to the fans or some labor of love. It’s a business that Crystal hopes will continue to expand monetarily and continue to help her branch out with other projects since the web is the future. Its also a business that is being funded by the audience (consumers). The audience is being asked to part with their hard earned money in order to purchase subscriptions and merchandise to keep Venice financially afloat which is completely above board. But when someone runs a business and is selling products to the public then there is going to be positive and negative feedback. This is normal and should be expected because its the only way that Crystal and her team will know what the majority of the audience likes or wants or expects. In fact Crystal and her team have asked for feedback for this very reason. I really can’t wait to indeed purchase Venice merchandise but I will wait until signed items from Jessica Leccia and the East coast actors become available which I hope is very soon. I’m just giving my honest feedback and opinion. And as a consumer and supporter of Venice I have the right to do so.

I do believe Crystal Chappell intends to get some merchandise signed by her East Coast castmates at some point in the future…All I know is that I am looking forward to Season 3 and finding out where they story is going to go

My issue with the whole Molly “may” be playing a long lost child, is just that I feel CC has been swayed from her vision for Venice and what we Otalia fans were originally promised. CC did say that Gina had ALWAYS known she was gay and was very vocal in the show being different. I have absolutely no problem with CC creating a webseries for the Carbo fans but I do find it ridiculous that she would even attempt to please both fanbases, it just can’t be done. If the rumor is true, I will be disappointed. I doubt that I will be able to watch cause like others have said, I don’t want to watch DOOL. I want Venice. And even putting aside the whole Carbo thing, I really don’t want to have a former relationship with a man brought once again into a Lesbian storyline. It’s been done before and I truly believed Venice would be different.

I’m a huge fan of Otalia and Gina & Ani & CC & JL individually. I love how Galen & Nadia plays their part. They are more relax in Venice then they are on DOOL. I’m sure Molly will be too. CC is a great writer and she proved it by winning. I know CC will not disappoint ANY of her fans. She DOES listen to her fans. I’m so looking forward to V3 and hope we see more of Gina & Ani together. BTW – great items in VShop!

Great pics, thanks Michael! I also will be waiting to buy any autographed stuff until the east coast crew gets their signatures on the items. For me it is the fact that I was a 20 yr viewer of GL and that was my show. I want Jordan, Jess, Gina, Tina, Liz, and Hilary’s autographs. They are the main reason I watch along with CC of course. I have watched Days off and on over the years and for the last two years now but I don’t have the connection to DOOL or its actors like I did with GL. So I understand everyone’s view here who wants to wait.

I’m not a Carbo fan, nor do I see Venice as Otalia .2 I watched GL for many years and Olivia Spencer was my fav. When the Otalia story first started I didn’t think it would work. But then it was told so well at first, I found myself planning my day around watching it. I trust Crystal enough that I feel V3 will be great. I also can’t wait to see what happens with Van and Owen. To me this show is about more then just Gina and Ani. I wouldn’t mind seeing a love child, or whatever happens in this show. I just want it told well and I truly think V3 will be.

It is fascinating the extremes some people jump to. I’m not sure how waiting for merchandise to be signed by JL and/or other east coast cast members equals “whining” or “getting lined up for a lynch mob”. Not everyone has deep pockets. Not everyone can afford to buy 2 of every item. Some folks may need to wait until they can get everything they want in the item before purchasing so that they get the most out of their money. Aren’t a lot of purchases made that way? When you buy a computer, don’t you try to get everything you want in it? It sure seems like the smart thing to do, especially if you are on a budget. CC has said that she is going to have the east coast cast sign items too. What is so wrong with folks waiting for those items to be posted for sale? It doesn’t mean they hate CC. It doesn’t mean they don’t support Venice or OBP. I don’t have a problem saying that I am waiting for JL signed merchandise. CC still gets my support. I’m waiting, not boycotting. It is not a dis against CC or Venice.

As far as MB joining Venice, for the most part, it doesn’t bother me. My only concern is having too many characters given the short format. Honestly, I am not an overall soap fan. I watched Days back in the early 80’s and into the 90’s but after that I didn’t watch a soap again until Otalia. The only reason I tuned in was because I recognized CC. As I watched, I became a JL fan too. CC fans follow her to whatever show she is making, JL fans should have the same right. Are all the fans who are writing to DOOL “whining” and “getting lined up for a lynch mob” because they are expressing their opinion about wanting her character to continue on the show and have a front burner storyline? Should they stop writing into the other soaps trying to get her on those shows? No. Why are the JL fans considered fanatics over expressing their desire to see JL in a front burner storyline but the CC fans aren’t? Being pro-JL doesn’t mean folks are anti-CC.

No matter what, I’ll be getting my subscription and tuning in when the time comes. Will I be hoping for a lot of JL? Absolutely. 🙂

Geez, there’s a distressing amount of hostility and suspicion on this thread. 🙁

I *love* CC, JL, and the GiAni love story on Venice. I’ve grown to respect MollyB as an actor, and am looking forward to her contribution on Venice—no matter WHO she plays. If PeterR’s presence gets more people to tune into Venice, then I say the more the merrier (he’s obviously NOT the focus of the story, however. I don’t know why anyone would either expect/fear he would be).

I’m mainly just excited for Venice Season 3! If there’s an upgrade on S3, the way there was from S1 to S2, I think we’re in for a real treat! 😀

I’m not a fan of DOOL’s Melanie Layton “BUT” if Crystal brings out great performances from Molly like the ones from Nadia, I’m ok with Molly joining the cast.

I am an Otalia fan who is looking forward to season three of Venice. I also don’t see what the big deal is if Gina had a secret love child from years back. Not everyone is a “gold star lesbian”. I know plenty of women who knew they were gay but still had relationships with men for various different reasons before they finally came out. Even though it’s still hard coming out, it’s a lot easier than it was even twenty years ago. I look forward to seeing how this story is going to be played out. I’m sure it will be good and soapy.

Wow, chill people. Not one episode has even been FILMED yet and people are already threatening to not watch. This is what annoys me about the human race…if I don’t get what I want, I’m done with it. Priorities. And to seriously worry enough about a Web show to get upset over it is kinda ridiculous. If that’s the worst thing that happens in your world is a character on a show has a child from when she was with men, then you have a pretty good god damn life. I lost my mother to cancer just recently….now that’s something to bitch about. And the fact is, I am a lesbian, and have SEVERAL friends who have children from previous relationships. NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME – so why is it okay if you say it’s over done (really – cuz in my 47 years of life watching tv, I haven’t seen much representation of lesbians with or without children / males) , but for me , it’s reality, every day life!?! Only straight up lesbians who have never had sex with men are allowed? Okay, go create your own show then. I for one applaud the fact that we have a beautiful woman creating something for a broad group of people portrayed by several beautiful women. I absolutely adore Jessica Leccia, make no mistake about that and will attend every / any event she has anything to do with, but it’s not all about her folks. Thank you Crystal for everything you do, I for one, appreciate what you have done and will leave it up to you to create YOUR show the way YOU see fit.
I thought Love was Louder —- not bitchiness? Only Love can safe the world — hmm or so it seemed.
And can’t we just all appreciate the effort for Natalia’s God’s sake??

It’s not all about Jessica, but when Venice has been promoting Gina/Ani as a couple as the ‘super couple’, then Crystal needs to include her in the signings, etc. Things that showcase both of them (like the mousepad) should have both of their signatures or not any of them. I am not saying I will not buy any of the merchandise ever (as I just bought 4 things from the store including the mousepad mind you), I am just saying I want things with the whole cast.

And, regards to the whole lesbian thing. Yes, it’s common to have lesbians who have slept with men before or even have children with them. But, why do so many shows have to show a man being tied to a lesbian couple forever? Why must the said child be a secret? I wouldn’t be upset if it was known since the beginning that Gina had a child, but the fact that it remained a secret on-screen implies shame/guilt, etc. whereas a child should be a happy thing. I’m tired of this overused storyline. There are plenty of other ways Gina could have had drama. How about Logan the ex that was talked about in Season 1? How about conflict with Gina and Owen? What about more about her mother’s death is brought to the surface. I thought Venice was different.

My point being, it hasn’t even been FILMED yet – do we know this as a fact? Second point – I’m just glad there’s a show about lesbians …period… thank god for that. I choose to be grateful and not hateful.

May I ask how is Chrissie being hateful by expressing her feelings on a storyline that may or may not happen? She’s giving her opinion.Although I don’t agree with not subscribing it’s her choice. If CC does decide to go with Gina/Richard love child will I not subsribe…No because like you i’m thankful for a lesbian storyline. Will I voice my dislike of the storyline…yes. I agree with Chrissie there is so many other ways they could have created drama for Gina.

The grateful and not hateful wasn’t necessarily for Chrissie, she just happened to reply to my post.
Again, I am just grateful that any any any portrayal of lesbians is being created and produced and starring people I WANT TO SEE – regardless of how it goes. Jessica and Crystal being the main ones I wish to see — and I don’t necessarily have to have them together to appreciate a show about lesbians.
I do believe that there is some hatefulness posted here regarding the MB character . Don’t subscribe for whatever reason you want, but to threaten to do so just because of a character WHO HASN”T EVEN BEEN NAMED YET is narrow minded and childish and negative IN MY OPNION. Remember, just MY OPINION. Remember, every one is allowed to have an opinion and is allowed to disagree.

I’m so glad I don’t live with threats if I don’t get what I want… I’m a much happier person for it. And complaining is a waste of energy. Life’s too short to worry about trivial things.

Everytime someone says they won’t subscribe, I buy another – so love really does win over in the end. :>)

You buy multiple ones? Why? That’s not love, that’s obsession.

You aren’t into Venice, you’re personally invested in CC’s success and that reflects in your answers that cannot tolerate criticism and call it childish and narrow-minded.

LOL, these fangirl posts are so unintentionally funny. As far as the merchandise, JL fangirls will never be satisfied. There are never enough pictures, mentions or scenes. As far as the plot rumors, if they are true then simply do not subscribe to the next season. Simple enough, if you do not like something, do not subscribe.

Again how are the JL “girls” any different then any other fanbase that tweet write campaign to have more scenes, mentions or pictures.I know cause its not your favorite there’s no difference and no matter how you label us fangirl or fanatic we’re still going to be here to support JL.Just like the CC,SC,NB,PR,MC,HW,TS,GG,GT and HBS fans.I don’t have a problem with dool cast being a part of Venice everyone has a reason they tune into Venice JL happens to be mine.

So you’re telling people not to subscribe? Do I have that right? You’re telling people not to subscribe to this series that CC has put so much time and effort into and that is financially dependent on it’s subscribers. You do realize, by telling people not to subscribe, you’re hurting Venice and CC, right? Essentially you’re killing the series. If that’s what you want, then job well done.

Huh???? Wow, that’s some leap you made there. My statement said if you do not like something than do not watch or purchase it and that is directed at those people who are already freaking out over a possible storyline twist. Save yourself from the aggravation and the rest of us from your whining posts. Wow, so many in the Venice fanbase are some of the whiniest ever. See I did not single out any fangirls there. Geez.

So you’re only telling the ‘whiners’ to not subscribe. Okay, but that doesn’t make a difference, you’re still telling potentially paying customers not to subscribe. You’re still driving away business that CC needs to keep her project going.

I’m happy to take one for the fangirls, though I still don’t see where giving feedback, that has been asked for by CC on many occasions, including her last blog post, equates to whinning. Everyone who has voiced their concerns, has done so in a polite manner. The only ones being rude or name calling, are the people, who appear to be CC’s fans.

I wonder these people who like to label the JL fans do they go after the CC,NB,SC and PR fans as well when their tweeting and posting on message boards to see these actor/actresses have more scenes are a better storyline on DOOL guess everybody has a little fangirl/fanatic in them.JL and CC are the reason I watch Venice if I don’t like something i’ll simply fast forward through it.Not subsribing as your advising people not to do would only hurt the future of Venice.

I say it’s time for everyone to purchase a bottle of Tequila Revolucion and then we should toast to a successful Venice Season 3!

I’m with you. Here’s to a successful Season 3 of Venice !

Well said, indeed, cheers!!!

If Molly is playing Gina and Richard love child i’m done and not very happy about this so called Carbo crap going on either Venice is about Gina and Ani who we havent even seen together yet carbo had their time

True enough, Carbo has had their time as a couple twice, sex scenes galore.

Otalia never did, Venice was created in large part to rectify that. It was the hook, see kissing in the first minute! But 2 seasons in and not much beyond one kiss has been shown. And now we have a love child and carbo scenes that certainly weren’t the promise of Venice. It concerns me. I want the promotion of the show to involve the east coast crew in particular the defacto co-star. What do we get? DOOL, why would people pay for DOOL when they can watch it for free and have been doing so for years.

Wow, I was happy to read the article and see the pics (thank you, Michael!) and then I read the comments..good lord. Are some of these comments from grown wo/men? I’m just happy we have the series and I am really looking forward to season 3. Crystal knows how to bring it and JL and the rest of the cast light up the screen. Season 3 will be great! I’m ready to pay for my subscription.

I can totally understand if people want to wait to buy after the others have had a chance to sign , but to make it sound like CC is playing favorites seems strange. They will be getting together soon why bother with shipping a bunch of stuff across the country and then back, they would have to send alot to make it worth while. This way it gives them a head start on sales for season 3. About Molly glad she’s on board i don’t waste my time worrying about who she will play. I am a Gina / Ani shipper but truthfully enjoyed the story between Ani/Lara. So far Venice has put a different spin on everthing in Venice so whatever happens i’m am sure it will never be considered a take off from Dool.

As previously reported, a show spokesperson for Days of our Lives shared that the episodes submitted for the competition were #14663, #14678 & #14679, and mostly centered around the death, and the funeral of Victor Kiriakis played by the late John Aniston.

This week, DAYS head scribe, Ron Carlivati, confirmed that, and told Michael Fairman TV on the decision of the scripts the team submitted: “I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, and then there was Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s (Louise Sorel) crashing the reading of the will.”

You can follow along with the live updated list of all the winners from tonight’s WGA ceremonies here.

Michael Fairman TV will have more on DAYS WGA Award win as it becomes available.

Matthew Ashford and Melissa Reeves Talk Return to DAYS for Doug’s Funeral, Susan Seaforth Hayes, and Their Enduring Friendship

Last week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode which is tentatively scheduled to air on December 3rd. The story will feature emotional and heart-tugging scenes of Doug Williams funeral and honor his portrayer, the beloved Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th at the age of 98.

While the actors, producers, and crew took a lunch time break to pose for some pictures and speak with the press, they knew they would have to get back to taping the funeral, which was going to make it a tough day, but also cathartic for all who loved Bill Hayes.

Several returns have thus far been announced including; Melissa Reeves reprising her signature role of Jennifer Horton (a part she first played in 1985), and Matthew Ashford as Jack Deveraux. Reeves had last appeared on the show back in 2021, and she was replaced by Emmy-winner Cady McClain in her absence when Jennifer was in storylines. In real-life, Melissa had moved full-time to Tennessee along with her husband, Scott Reeves (ex-DAYS, GH, Y&R). Now, and as previously reported, Reeves will first appear back on DAYS for the Thanksgiving episodes with the Hortons.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Matt and Melissa during the 15,000th episode celebration to get their take on: being back for these special episodes, how it has been working with and watching Susan Seaforth Hayes portray Julie’s grief over losing Doug, and how they have supported each other through the years. Check out what they shared below.

Melissa, you are back on the set of Days of our Lives for this very emotional and special moment in the series history. How does it feel?

MELISSA: Oh, my goodness. I am honored. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else but to be here for Bill. He was like my real-life dance partner. He taught me how to ballroom dance. And to be here for Susan, of course, who’s just been our sweet hero this whole week. We’re just following her lead. She’s just been this incredibly strong example for us in the midst of this trial and season of her life. She is like just lifting us all up with her. It’s been incredible.

I was at Bill Hayes memorial service which was truly incredible and I know at the time you were in Tennessee. It was moving and celebratory of his life, all at the same time.

MELISSA: That’s all I have heard. I have to watch it on You Tube. They said it was just a real celebration of his life and I love that.

Photo: JPI

This must be difficult for Susan Seaforth Hayes depicting the death of Doug, when she is still grieving the loss of her beloved husband. (Susan pictured above with the returning Stephen Schnetzer who plays her on-screen brother, Steve Olson).

MELISSA: I’m sure Susan has those moments at home by herself, but she’s so good at being a leader and leading all of us. We’re following her, you know, and she’s like, “This is how I want to feel today.” And we’re just going along with her, you know? It’s so sweet.

Photo: JPI

How is it to see Matt Ashford again live and in-person?

MELISSA: You know, Matt and I can go years without talking, or seeing each other, and then the minute we see each other we’re chatting away.

MATT: Melissa was out on set doing a scene yesterday on the phone talking to a stage manager; as she was telling some really tough news on the phone. I’m like crying in the background, literally, I’m off-stage crying.

MELISSA: And then we get like back into normal life, and we’re like, okay, “What’s happening? What’s happening with this … or what’s happening with that?”

I had read, Melissa, that you were in touch with Matt about if there night be a possibility for you to reprise your role as Jennifer for these special episodes?

MELISSA: Yes. Well, Matt was like, “Hey! Would you want to come back? “And I was like, “Matt, you know, I would always come back. ”

MATT:  Every time I come here to Days of our Lives, they ask, “Where’s Missy? How’s Missy?” Everybody backstage says, “I miss her.” All of the crew is asking about her and saying, “It would be nice to see Missy. Nothing wrong with you Matt, but …”  They said, “Where is she?” I said, “She wants to come!”

There are some beautiful photos of Missy and Bill and Susan thorough the years that I found. It just reminded me of just the deep and entrenched history we all have had with the show, personally and professionally.

MATT: Missy is roughly the age where Francis Reid (ex-Alice Horton) was when she started the show, which is just crazy.

I’ve always said Missy was going to be the next generation Alice. Do you feel that Jennifer is the heir apparent matriarch of the Horton family?

MELISSA: Yes. I mean, this has been greatest blessing of my life, and that would be great. I told Ken Corday (executive producer, Days of our Lives) when I was 17 that this show would be my life. Ken always told me, “This is your home,” and I’ve always felt like that.

How have gotten through the scenes watching Susan Seaforth Hayes as Julie go through the loss of Doug?

MATT: Susan is bringing her best performance life for her and Bill. I mean, she’s a showbiz baby. She always has been one hundred percent, and she’s doing it for him, and this is who they’ve always been. So, you’re seeing this amazing performance colored by her life. She has her private life as Susan, but she has enough plugged into Julie that she’s done amazing work. The director, producers and writers are giving her room to live in these moments and it’s quite wonderful.

Have you already broken down in tears during the taping?

MELISSA: Yesterday, but today’s taping of the actual funeral I think they want us to try and be just more celebratory.

MATT: I mean, it is a beautiful long life for Bill Hayes and his character of Doug Williams, and so it will be about that. Then, you get a bunch of us together in the church pews, and there’s going to be hijinks.

MELISSA: We all have been through the waves of grief. You have that awful cry and then all of a sudden you feel okay.  There are those family situations we are portraying where you’re like, “What do we do? What do we do now? You know, no one knows what to do. But, it’s so sweet. I’m looking forward to seeing how the scenes all turn out.

So, are you glad that Matt and Melissa are back for the 15K episode and Doug’s funeral? From what we can tell, it’s going to be quite an emotional journey for Days of our Lives fans, and especially the performance of Susan Seaforth Hayes,

Days Of Our Lives

Ron Carlivati Talks on Decision to Make Days of our Lives 15000th Episode About Doug’s Funeral, and Previews Chances for WGA Award

This week, Days of our Lives celebrated the taping of their 15,000th episode. In of it itself, that is an incredible accomplishment for the long-running soap opera currently streaming on Peacock.

However, this on set gathering was a bit different. Though the show is celebrating their achievement, they are also in the middle of taping scenes surrounding the death and the funeral of Doug Williams, played by the late Bill Hayes, who passed away on January 12th of this year at the age of 98.

As previously revealed many longtime favorites are back to honor Bill and the character of Doug including: Gloria Loring (Liz), Melissa Reeves (Jennifer), Matthew Ashford (Jack), Maree Cheatham (Marie), Victoria Konefal (Ciara) and Stephen Schnetzer (Steve) to name but a few.

Michael Fairman TV was in attendance and spoke with Days of our Lives head writer, Ron Carlivati to gain some insight into how the 15,000 episode was crafted and the decision to honor the character of Doug Williams and Bill Hayes as its epicenter. In addition, Ron weighed-in on this Sunday’s April 14th WGA (Writers Guild of America) Awards, where he and his writing team are facing off with General Hospital for the daytime drama prize. Here’s what Ron shared below.

Was this your idea to make the 15,000th episode centered around Doug’s funeral and passing?

RON: It was. When you’re looking at it, and laying out the calendar for the whole year and you see 15,000 is coming up, we’re like, “What are we going to do?” And then, we got the news that Bill had passed away and something kind of clicked. I was like, “We should honor Doug on that show.” So then, we started to kind of build around that … when does he pass away? How does he pass away? Who could come back? You know, it’s a lot.  I’m very pleased with the returns that we got as there’s so much that you could do. We wanted everybody we could get. So, we put together a wish list and Janet Drucker (co-executive producer, Days of our Lives) made it happen.

You have Melissa Reeves back as Jennifer, when the role was last played by Cady McClain. What has it meant to have Missy back for these shows?

RON: It was so nice to see Missy Reeves. I think Cady has done such a good job, but on the 15,000th episode to see Missy as Jennifer, it’s a big deal. So having her was great, and overall, the milestone was a big undertaking, because you want to live up to it. You want the 15,000th episode to be good. Now, it has a lot of real emotion that you’re playing. because for the cast and the crew they’re honoring Bill Hayes just as much as we’re honoring Doug Williams.

Was it hard for you and the team to write this episode?

RON: Yes. I’ll tell you why it was hard to write.  When I wrote, for example, Asa’s (Phillip Carey) death on One Life to Live or Victor’s (John Aniston) on DAYS, Asa is a different type of character. Like, you could have characters going, “Oh! I’m glad he is dead.” You could have different points of view, but with Doug, you’re not having that. Every person loves this man. No one had a bad relationship with him. So, you’re challenge as a writer is how do you make it that not everybody’s saying the same thing and doing the same thing. And so, we tried to find ways to make the episode about all the familial relationships and yet, how do you make it about Doug and yet broaden the scope.

I had spoken to Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie), a week after Bill’s memorial, for an interview. She said that she felt very fortunate that you did include her on discussions of how you would tackle Doug’s passing. How did that conversation go?

RON: First, I attended Bill’s funeral, which was incredible. I said to so many people it was an emotional service, but it was hard to be sad at this. The guy had an incredible life and it was an incredible celebration. And so, you’re sitting there watching this knowing that you now have to write something similar. And how do you write something that lives up to what you just witnessed? I wanted to talk to Susan to get her thoughts about, you know, how much do you want this to be about keeping Bill separate from Doug. How comfortable are you sharing your grief. She was incredible to talk to. It was a great chat.

You’re in the middle of taping these major scenes for the 15,000 episode to air in December. How do you think it’s going? Have you seen any of the scenes?

RON:  I haven’t seeing anything. I mean, we were still making changes to the script up till this morning!

Photo: JPI

The Writers Guild Awards are this Sunday, April 14th and once again this year there are two daytime drama nominees, General Hospital and Days of our Lives. How are you feeling about your chances this year?

RON: It is often just GH and us in the category. I’ve won three years in a row, so I’m kind of feeling like it’s their turn.

Photo: JPI

What episodes did you submit for contention? If I recall, they had to do with Victor’s memorial.

RON: The episodes we submitted were centered around Victor’s funeral. I think one has story with Vivian (Louise Sorel). We had some fun stuff, we had some emotional stuff at Victor’s death, and I am pretty sure that our submission was three episodes right around that time.

Did you make the decision to go with those episodes because there was a mix of humor and drama?

RON: I like to have some humor, but it was also the funeral, then there’s Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) giving birth, and then Vivian’s crashing the reading of the will. So, we had a lot of fun and it’s hard sometimes to pick three that tell a story, as opposed to submitting for the Daytime Emmys, where the writing team only submits two shows. So, we shall see how it goes on Sunday.
