Walt Willey Brings All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery to General Hospital

Look for another legal eagle character from a former ABC soap opera to pop up on General Hospital!
News today out of Soap Opera Digest has that none other than Walt Willey set to reprise his role as All My Children’s Jackson Montgomery on upcoming episodes of GH in July.
Willey played Erica Kane’s (Susan Lucci) love interest and the Pine Valley lawyer from 1987 through to till ABC’s cancellation of the series back in 2011. The actor previously crossed-over to another soap opera in 1996, when he played Jack on ABC’s The City.

Taking to his Facebook account, Walt confirmed the news on his appearances on GH: “Hey Folks… Been sitting on this one for a while but now I’ve been given the clearance to announce that “Jackson Montgomery” is visiting Port Charles! I’ll be doing a few episodes of General Hospital, due to air mid July. So excited to reprise my character and see and work with old friends! I’ll keep you posted on any details. “Jackson” in Port Charles…who would have thought it? Let me, and ABC, know what you think about it!”
Could Jack’s sudden arrival in Port Charles have to do with the SEC and the trouble that Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) find themselves in? Will AMC fans get to see Cameron Mathison and Willey share scenes together again? Mathison played Ryan Lavery on the beloved former soap opera … or might Jack go up against Martin Grey in a GH legal battle, so Michael E. Knight and Willey could share scenes together again since their AMC days?
So, excited to see Walt on General Hospital? What do you think brings Jack to Port Charles? Weigh-in below and stay tuned.
I love it when GH uses characters from other soaps! It creates a soap universe. I would love to see Delia back to talk some sense into her Daughter, Ava, and see Nora back to spar with GH’s legal eagles. Those are always fun scenes. Good luck to Jackson in PC!
I loved Nora on OLTL; she and Bo were great together. But I felt totally disappointed by her two appearances on GH. The character wasn’t written the same way, and without her OLTL peeps it was just lacking. If however, they put the actress on contract (wishful thinking, I know. since they barely used Scotty or Martin Grey in their lawyer roles) and Bo came with her, that would be fun. I could see Nora and Alexis as great friends; same type of personalities…
Should be interesting! Maybe they can keep him around as a mate for Diane. That would be an interesting mix!
Lew S.,
Jack and Diane? remember that guy years ago,Dy-No-Mite!
Definitely Violet! Hey, anything is possible. Michael Knight has been around quite a while and they paired him up with Lucy. Fingers crossed!
Love Walt! I hope he stays at GH! Would be great to have him match up with Carolyn Hennessy, both in front of the judge & elsewhere! Might get Tristan off the fence!
Yes, I was trying to think who would be a good match for him: Diane? Alexis? maybe Liesl?
Love Jackson! Here’s hoping for an extended stay!
DIANE!
Yes !!
Yay! Cannot wait for Walt to Join Cameron and Michael Knight on GH!!!!
Absolutely adore when GH honors the ABC shows and has characters from OLTL & AMC on, especially when they play their Character
Can’t wait to see him again, especially playing the role of Jack! I just wish it would be permanent or better yet, be on All My Children.
He could share scenes with Michael Knight. (Tad Martin)
C Bishop,
Better yet, partners in a law firm.
OMG, one of my favorites. Hope to see him along side his old cohorts,Michael E. Knight and Cam. Mathison.
hey Michael, don’t forget, Jackson also knows Anna Devane.
In the words of Lizzo: IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME! Walt Wiley was always top tier as Jackson Montgomery, and it makes me very happy to know he’s coming to Port Charles, and I hope this move could also mean other P.V. residents can come aboard, too! Now, if only we could get David Hayward to come in as the new chief of staff for General Hospital… that would be fun and exciting, and then Aiden Devane, too, plus others! Honestly, Lorraine Broderick should’ve been picked as head writer for General Hospital over Ron Carlivati; the stories she was penning for All My Children in the end were pretty great, and she was able to secure Cady McClain’s multi-year return, too!
Now, it’s time for the Castillos & Hubbards to crossover into Port Charles. General Hospital could replace some of its staff (Hamilton Finn, Austin Gatlin-Holt) with some prime examples of excellence (Angie Hubbard, Cara & Griffin Castillo).
Scott( ATWT fan)
Three words, From Your Mouth!!
SO excited to hear this! I can’t wait to see Jack again!!
Always like Jack. He was a mild mannered actor. He was great with Erica Kane. Hope he hooks up on GH with Diane or possibly Ava.

Writers Strike Comes to an End; Leadership Votes To Conclude Work Stoppage

It’s over! After 148 days, the 2023 Writers strike will go down as the second longest in WGA union history, only a labor stoppage in 1988 was longer.
The strike will officially come to end on Wednesday at 12:01am PT. This was due to a vote from the guild’s leadership that now has authorized its over 11,500 members to return to work.
That means: pitching and selling scripts, taking meetings, responding to notes, writers’ rooms opening up again, and more, can now restart.

The WGA committee shared that the vote, “Allows writers to return to work during the ratification process, but does not affect the membership’s right to make a final determination on contract approval.” However, WGA East and West voted unanimously to lift the “restraining order” on Tuesday.
As the negotiators shared, the end of the strike doesn’t mean that the tentative agreement that the union reached with producers on Sunday night is a surefire thing: Union members still need to vote to ratify the contract. Union leadership announced on Tuesday that will take place between October 2nd and October 9th.

However, SAG-AFTRA still remains on strike. So, even with the writers returning to work, many productions can’t move forward without their principal actors and performers.
So soap fans, how do you feel about this news for your favorite shows? Glad that the head writers and their writing teams will be back at work as soon as this week from Days of our Lives, General Hospital, and The Bold and the Beautiful? Y&R’s Josh Griffith, who previously had gone Fi-Core during the 2008 strike, remained at the top rated show during the last several months.

WGA and AMPTP Reach Tentative Deal to End Writers Strike

Looks like we are close, very close, to the writing teams at your favorite soap operas returning to their jobs with news on Sunday that finally the WGA and AMPTP have reached a tentative deal. What remains is the fine print, and having the WGA vote to ratify their contracts.
This is welcome news to the television, streaming and motion picture industry that after five months of a strike has put the 2023-2024 TV season in deep water.
In a statement, the Writers Guild shared, “We have reached a tentative agreement on a new 2023 MBA (Minimum Basic Agreement), which is to say an agreement in principle on all deal points, subject to drafting final contract language. We can say, with great pride, that this deal is exceptional — with meaningful gains and protections for writers in every sector of the membership.”
As the deal goes through its final stages, the writers are still technically on strike, but picketing outside studios and shows has now been suspended.

Among the writers’ demands that they fought for are: higher residuals from streaming shows, minimum staff sizes to prevent the use of “mini rooms” and protections from the use of AI. The hope within the entertainment industry is that the new deal for the WGA will move along a new contract for SAG-AFTRA (actors) with the AMPTP. As of Monday, SAG-AFTRA is still on strike.

As for your favorite soap operas, during the strikes, the shows were written by non-union writers or “fi-core” writers who gave up their union benefits in order to continue working.
The next steps in process will see the WGA negotiating committee vote on “whether to recommend the agreement and send it on to the WGAW Board and WGAE Council for approval,” tentatively scheduled for Tuesday. Another vote by the board and council could lift the strike “restraining order”and allow scribes to “return to work during the ratification vote”.
So, are you happy to know that the writing teams from your favorite soaps are about to return to work and helm the scripts and the vision of the shows? Comment below.

Patricia Miller, the mother of the late Billy Miller, has come forward and issued a touching statement on the tragic death of her beloved son at age 43. The statement was shared by Billy’s longtime manager, Marnie Sparer, via social media.
Billy was best-known for his performances as Richie Nowack on All My Children, Billy Abbott of The Young and the Restless and Jason Morgan/Drew Cain on General Hospital, as well as countless primetime roles. Throughout his career, Miller took home three Daytime Emmys for his work.
“I would like to share the following thoughts,” Patricia began. “I want to personally thank the many fans & personal friends for the overwhelming amount of love, prayers & condolences sent to me and my family on the devastating death of my beautiful son BJ – Billy Miller.”

Patricia continued with these sentiments, as she wanted to clear up any misinterpretations on this death: “He fought a long hard valiant battle with bipolar depression for years. He did everything he could to control the disease. He loved his family, his friends and his fans but in the end the disease won the fight and he surrendered his life. The other causes of death being told are not true. I wish they were but they just aren’t. We all loved him so much and are desperately trying to deal with our loss. I will have nothing further to say. Thanks for the love and support.”
