The Young and the Restless, Genie Francis (Genevieve Atkinson) who is taking a break from the trials and tribulations in Genoa City as everyone knows is off filming a movie in Vancouver, The Note 3: The Heart Healer.

The Times Colonist caught up with Francis in between taping some scenes with her co-star, Ted McGinley to get her thoughts on her career and her fast rise to stardom in her heyday of Luke and Laura on GH, plus flashing forward to coming back to work on daytime on Y&R.

Genie stated when being robbed of her adolescence, (due the enormous popularity and demands at a young age being part of a cultural phenomenon) she likened it to the perils of Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears!  “My heart breaks for those young women. Sometimes I wish I could be in touch and be there for them and talk to them because I think I understand what they’re going through.  It  gets incredibly lonely when you’re surrounded by people with ulterior motives who want to be close to you. You’re in a fishbowl. Our youth, for most of us, is a time when we figure out what group of people we belong to, right? In a natural setting those people become like family. But there is no natural setting.”

As to why Genie is back in soaps after her huge success with GH, and then moving to the number one soap in daytime, Y&R, Francis simply stated. “It’s definitely not just because I earn well. I’m treated with a lot of respect and kindness because of what I’ve achieved. And it’s essentially a part-time job. Often I go in two or three days a week, and work from 6 a.m. to 10 or 11 a.m., and the rest of the time I’m free to be a mom to my kids. I can pick them up from school by 3 o’clock.  It’s a darned good job.”

And as for her staying power in show business, Francis added, “I think I’m a survivor. I just want to go on, and I don’t think of myself as a star. I think of myself as an actor who wants to work. I think that’s grounding. You’re a craftsman.”

Well, I guess those rumors about her leaving soon are false. I still like Ms. Francis I am just having a hard time enjoying her character on Y&R.

pleeeeeeeeasssssse Genie, return to GH, the Y&R is not a good match for you. plus GH is rocking now, and your sourly miss playing Laura.

Laura, come home.

i have so much respect for genie! i loved her on gh even though during her final years there i feel her character was not treated very fair. i also love her on y&r…………………

I just love Genie’s new charactor on Y&R, I miss her as Laura but love seeing her back on TV and back on a soap. I hope she is around for a long time. I really am liking her with Jack, I hope they make them a couple and her fighting with Jill is awesome keep it up, they are so fun to watch. I think her charactor is evil and a little crazy but I love that she has a soft spot too, especially towards the subject of her daughter. I hope they go more into detail surrounding her daughter on the show.

General Hospital’s John J. York On His Health Battle & Living Life While Waiting for Bone Marrow Transplant: “Let’s Just Go One Day At a Time”

John J. York’s positive outlook on his current medical diagnosis is quite remarkable, as his approach might be one many facing the same circumstances might consider.  The beloved General Hospital vet, where he has played Mac Scorpio for 22 years, revealed last week that he is battling cancer.

The popular soap star shared that he has been fighting myelodysplastic syndromes, or MDS, and multiple smoldering myeloma: two blood and bone marrow disorders.

York spoke with PEOPLE about how he found out about his diagnosis, the support his wife Vicki has shown throughout, and how he lives life day to day, while he waits for an all-important bone marrow transplant.

The actor shared what happened the moment he learned of his diagnosis: “(The doctor) was explaining all these different things and cells and all different levels and words that had, you know, 25 letters in them. And I didn’t understand. And Vicki finally came out and said, ‘Does John have cancer?’ And he said, ‘Yes.’ And I’m sitting there, I’m really just like a fly on the wall, listening to him talk to Vicki because she was the one asking all the questions.  At the end of his doctor’s conversation with Vicki, York’s one question was simple: ‘Why do I feel so good?’”

Vicki and John were in the process of moving to Tennessee to be closer to their daughter, Skyler, but considering UCLA in Los Angeles as John’s treatment center.  In the end, Skyler’s husband suggested Vanderbilt University for John’s cancer center so he did not have to travel back and forth to the west coast.

Since March of this year, John has had IV chemo treatments every month, with another one coming up in September. On that, John expressed: “It is what it’s, you know what I mean? And then everybody’s gotta get their treatment. And then you go home, go about your life and you play with the kids. And here we are.”

Currently, York is waiting for a bone marrow transplant. He has been moved up the donor priority list. If anyone is interested, and you are between 18-40, you can join the registry here bethematch.org/matchformac.

York shared how Vicki is coping with what’s ahead: “Yeah, she’s scared, but believe it or not, I really kinda wasn’t because I feel great. Personally, I feel like it’s in God’s hands. God’s will be done. It’s gonna work out okay, one way or another. I’m either gonna survive or I’m not. And life goes on and things are gonna be okay for everybody… Let’s just go one day at a time.”

Share your well-wishes, and support and love to John, as he goes through the next phase of his health battle and let’s hope a bone marrow transplant donor is found for him soon. After all, we all want to see Mac Scorpio return to Port Charles, but more importantly, we all want John to feel better and beat this.Comment below.

In that video, the crew members instructed Patricia to smile while at the counter before walking away to the other side of the set.  That’s when Patricia remarked, “Can I have a cookie?”
