Y&R's Lauralee Bell and Kate Linder Share Their Thoughts On The Passing of Jeanne Cooper!

In two powerful and heart-tugging statements released by two women who worked very closely over the years with daytime legend, Jeanne Cooper of The Young and the Restless, today Lauralee Bell (Christine) and Kate Linder (Esther) put down their thoughts on working with, and knowing the grand dame of Genoa City on set and off the set.   Here is what Lauralee, and then Kate stated in their tributes to the passing of Jeanne earlier this morning!

Lauralee Bell: “Jeanne was the matriarch of the show in every sense of the word. When you did work you were proud of, you’d hope for approval or a ‘good job’ from Jeanne as a child would from a parent. When things got too tense, she’d break the tension with her amazing wit. She would teach the younger actors without ever talking down to them. In fact, she would raise them up. She always had my back and my parents (and our whole family) always had hers. I am so grateful that Jeanne and I were on “Marie” together last month with my mom — what a gift to sit next to her and hold hands. When she saw me breaking down watching a clip of my late dad, she rescued me on camera by speaking of her gratitude towards him and the ways he had helped her. She squeezed my hand harder and had my back yet again. Like everything else Jeanne did, she was very brave. I know she was the light of her family. I will miss her so much!”

Kate Linder:  “My heart is breaking for Jeanne Cooper’s wonderful family and for all of us who truly loved Jeanne through the years. Jeanne was my mentor and an amazing actress and friend. We’ve been through so much together and I loved her like family. She and Bill Bell were the two people most responsible for my career on “Y & R.” and the world is a darker place without them. When Jeanne welcomed you into her life, you knew it and it was a fantastic feeling. This is truly the end of an era, not just for fans of “The Young and the Restless” but for all of the people she touched throughout her long and distinguished career and life. She’s always been larger than life and an inspiration to me and so many others. I can’t imagine a world without Jeanne Cooper — it won’t be the same without her fighting spirit and lust for life and to say she will be missed is an understatement for what we are all feeling today.”

So Y&R fans, what do you think of the tributes and words related by these two women who worked for many years with Jeanne? Let us know!

How sad I feel this morning when I watch Y & R and realize that Mrs C. will no longer be there. She was such a great part of the show. Last week when I saw it I had thought maybe she was going to be ok and be back. What wonderful tributes will come her way. Emmy Awards should honor her. To her son and daughter all the world sends their sympathy.

On December 3rd, the latest installment dropped featuring former Ugly Betty star Michael Urie who is featured in the cast in the role of Bobby.

Here is the premise of the show: After the ‘Broadway Disher’ (Lesli Margherita) leaks news of a top secret, in-the-works, new mega musical, the Broadway community goes off-the-charts batty. Top-of-their-game Broadway Producers Cheryl Philips (Lillias White) and Steve Jones (James Monroe Iglehart), arch enemies, pounce. Who will get the rights? Will way-out-of-their-comfort-zone creators Kaye (Ashley Park) and Bobby (Michael Urie) manage to deliver a draft of the show before their marriage implodes? Will Director/Choreographer Zoey Taylor (Ariana DeBose) send the show’s budget into a free fall with her wildly ambitious vision?  Will Broadway Diva Emma-Olivia (Sarah Stiles) get a Schmackery’s cookie (with Sprinkles) named in her honor? Will newbie Agent Maxwell Fernsby (George Salazar) step into his new big shoes? And will Science Consultant Andrew Barth Feldman (Andrew Barth Feldman) protect the integrity and authenticity of the in-the-works mega musical, before he needs to leave this top secret show to star in a new Broadway musical?

As The Curtain Rises proudly supports The Actor’s Fund, the Broadway Podcast Network Frontline Initiative, and is a sponsored project of IFP (www.ifp.org).

Check out previous episodes of the podcast here.

ABC’s Vicki Dummer & William Burton Among Executive Exits In Disney TV Cuts; Both Oversaw Aspects Of General Hospital

In a major reshuffling of the executive infrastructure at Disney/ABC, several lay-offs were handed-down including to longtime ABC executive Vicki Dummer who most recently was Head of Current Series Programming, ABC Entertainment,

In her position, Dummer oversaw the creative aspects from the network level for General Hospital.  Vicki had been with the company for over 24 years and was a noted longtime fan of the show in interviews she had given during her tenure.

Back in September of 2018, William Burton was given the position of SVP and Head Of Daytime, Sports and Syndicated Development/Production for ABC Entertainment.  He had been in charge of the the business operations for General Hospital at a network level, while Dummer continued to handle the creative.  However today, Burton was also let-go.

The exits come as ABC and Hulu have consolidated original content under Craig Erwich, and 20th Television and Touchstone TV under Karey Burke.

The layoffs are believed to have effected 12 staff members mostly at the executive level.

Deadline broke the news and then updated their story later today.

Just who and what department in the new structuring will take over General Hospital remains to be seen.  We will keep you posted once any additional news or announcements are made.
