46th Daytime Emmy Drama Performer Pre-Nominations Announced

Photo: NATAS

And so it begins, the race is on for Daytime Emmy Gold with the announcement this morning from The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) of the Drama Performer Pre-Nominations for the upcoming 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

The process used to determine the Pre-Nominated performers follows:

An online judging ballot containing all entrants in nine performer categories was sent to all registered, eligible peer judges. The ballot contained a randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips online containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category. The once exception is that there are 11 Supporting Actresses in a Digital Drama due to exact ties in the voting. As well, the names of the actors proceeding directly to the Blue Ribbon round of voting in the Younger Actor and Actress, and Guest Performer categories in a Drama Series are contained below as well.

Ballots were submitted directly to Lutz & Carr, Inc., an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results. The candidates below who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon screening round, scheduled to begin on February 21, 2019, which will determine both nominees and recipients.

Final nominations will be announced on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

“We are very proud to officially launch the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards with this list of extremely talented actors and actresses” said Brent Stanton, Executive Director, Daytime Emmy Awards Administration. “We are also very excited that this year the pre-nomination round includes the very talented performers from the Digital Drama Series.”

“Following the success of last year’s show, we look forward to the 46th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards being even bigger and better,” said David Michaels, Senior Vice President, and Executive Producer, Daytime Emmy Awards. “Today’s list of talent bodes well for a spirited competition and a star-studded show”

Congrats to all for their Pre-noms, now check out who made the cut below!

Did Camila Banus (Gabi. DOOL) just not submit anything this year? Because that’s the ONLY reason why I can think of for not to be on the Best Supporting Actress list.

If Peter makes it to the final round(s), I will lose all faith in the system. There are so many well-deserving actors on this list. Those that have actually earned their jobs.

I don’t watch GH but I keep reading comments like yours on different media sites. He wasn’t bad when he was a young man on Guiding Light but that was about a decade ago. I might have to watch clips of him on GH just to be curious lol.

I have to admit I’m confuse on how the voting procedure goes, but still happy the GH ladies and guys that made the list, happy that Michele Stafford is finally popping up for her work on gh, and glad to see Tamara Braun in the list for supporting, especially since they started her character out slow, and now she’s in hight gear onscreen.

where’s camila?huge snub. if parking lot Peter advances, these emmys have no credibility. glad to see Drake in there. Chad just no,he slept through all his scenes last year

AGREED.

No snub at all if she did not submit a reel. There are no nominations for these awards other than the actor nominating themself.

Tallies : each show… # nominees

Best Lead / Supporting / Younger

RIGHT – oughta – the gate : hey ! Prop this

OUTSTANDING GUEST PERFORMER IN A DRAMA SERIES “Thaao Penghlis ‘

Andre DiMera @DAYS of OUR Lives.. his comedic timing… his over the top… demeanor… his mindset in crafting a character that has legs AND rode the DiMera Mystique. Andre WITH Kate… GOD ! I will never understand why this was trashed. the sophisticated wit the aplomb with which Andre and Lauren Koslow just nailed and toasted each other presence. I LOVE Thaao AND Andre AND Tony. Mr DiMera to the set please. Ron Carlivati.. high brow wit glamour edge panache; one step up and hard knocks as only a DiMera can

^^^ THIS was my biggest surprise… I could be happy with this… well come on… along with the triple crown

@DAYS of OUR Lives

no surprise with Linsey Godfrey… AND “COME ON” any of the 4 shows casting director….. @JADE Harlow !?!? she continues to be nominated and recognized for internet show stopper that she is. also my other TRIP… LOL my secretly crushed on and will DANCE ; should @DAYS of OUR Lives nuERICA Kane
Victoria Konefal, as Ciara Brady Days of Our Lives, NBC

OH MY GOD … pick me up! My dynasty 2 billion dollar cache IS nominated : Victoria Rowell, as Jacqueline Mitchell Jacqueline and Jilly, UMC… another huge loss to this day that Y&R does nothing to further along COLOR. hey ! they didn’t keep Misheal Morgan did they

Glad to see Lindstrom in the lead category, as he has been driving story for months now. As mad as I was that Genie “went on hiatus”, that was probably the best thing to happen to JL on the show since they paired the 2 together.

Gail is rightfully in the supporting category. Howarth should have got Ramsey’s slot, but I suspect he submitted in lead.

Please air the show on prime time TV. Or on cable. Eithe mr inecso weccan watch.

I agree, that would be great!

Messed up on the last part. Either way do we the fans can watch.

KNOCK IT OUT of the Park : unquestionably; without doubt; no err on judgment; bar none; pack a wallop; the envelope PLEASE

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES

Tamara Braun, as Dr. Kim Nero General Hospital, ABC
Kirsten Storms, as Maxie Jones General Hospital, ABC
Vernee Watson, as Stella Henry General Hospital, ABC

Kassie DePaiva, as Eve Donovan Days of Our Lives, NBC
Linsey Godfrey, as Sarah Horton Days of Our Lives, NBC
Martha Madison, as Belle Black Days of Our Lives, NBC
Sal Stowers, as Lani Price Days of Our Lives, NBC

Camryn Grimes, as Mariah Copeland The Young and the Restless, CBS
Beth Maitland, as Traci Abbott The Young and the Restless, CBS
Mishael Morgan, as Hilary Curtis The Young and the Restless, CBS

EVERY WOMAN in this category could walk with GOLD
how can any one break it down to 5.

@Y&R – this is heart wrenching, and I don’t even watch Y&R any more… yet i’d standing ovation Beth Maitland, AND Mishael Morgan. can MESMERIZE. I can still see @Camryn Grimes most boring speech at last years emmy… so she can take a break this year

@GH – Tamara Braun will forever be the most welcome return by any actor to continue their outstanding RUN in this genre… she’s got mega written all over herself. top shelf top draw.. Dag ! plus she’s hotted out w/ Billy Miller AND William DeVry. this is happening

Kirsten Storms – it’s been a year since her one week of funeral scenes have come and gone. since that time.. well whataya know.. Shelly and Chris work stinks and it carries over in to character assassination. it just reeks of Wes Ramsey’ Peter August… Maxie is gone

@Vernee Watson.. Stella is never counted out… she deservedly WON and is placed in the right category this year for a shoe in… Love the bejeezus out of her. who wouldn’t want an Aunt Stella. I do, bunches and bunches of treat her like a lady

having said ALL this ^^^^ all deserving of honorable mention

that being said – the winner MUST come from any of the nominees @DAYS of OUR Lives

DAYS of OUR Lives – for the love of GOD

what will it take and when it should… only then will Serial have raised the bar and fully acknowledged the contribution of Ms. Kassie DePaiva . she is a full on ONE WOMAN SHOW… watching her work with a GIFTED CAST… alongside Kassie. boffo connect.

it’s such delight and giddy to see Martha Madison DOES ACT and FULLY carries her work as a recast… and has only gotten better at each turn she shows up. I voted her BEST FIGURE… I vote her work with her parents John and Marlena as heart tugged OUT and how she had to “carry” out Marlena wish. AND she easily , could be handed the torch from the uber damsel big sister Sami.. and fire onward and upward with her turn. LOVE HER !

Linsey Godfrey : has never left the top of her game – I am captivated still… having never watched her 3 time emmy nominated start @B&B. she’s my Jennifer Jason Leigh.. AND that’s truly a compliment of a class act who acts with every part of her being. IE: check out Dolores Claiborne… w/Kathy Bates… you could clearly see Linsey Godfrey . she’s the complete package. i’m still so smitten

Sal Stowers, as Lani Price ” say what one will… this lady has arrived .. this lady is tantamount to has her very own niche while all the rest clamor. she’s that enigmatic; the camera LOVES her.. as she chanteuse, damsel, femme fatale, brings down the bad guy… should be an attraction with Rafe just because. she shared in SOD .. about her character losing her baby with Eli.. that at the time this was being REELED… she culled from her grandmother having passed… and this certainly brought out her best stuff. she’s always a part of every scene be it supporting.. and watching her figure out that much more of Lani.

even I don’t know what to think… this is thee 2019 soap annuls RING IT UP

Great list of actors. I think the one glaring omission is Rob Scott Wilson (Ben, DOOL). He has done the impossible, making us cheer for a killer. I also think Camilla Banus should not only have been pre-nominated, but should have won. Kate Mansi is a lock for her award. I am surprised to not see Greg Vaughn on the list. I am hoping to see the awards on Hallmark or Lifetime channel this year since they continue to employ so many daytime actors. Lastly, I would love to see Michael Fairman and Lauren Koslow do the red carpet.

it is a real shame not to see camila banus and robert scott wilson big snubs and gh fans michelle stafford should not be here she is phyliss from young and restless and wasting her time on gh someone also stated the 4 shows on the majors should be competing with the digital shows no no and no our 4 shows left still deserve the full respect of there own categories to me the prime time emmys are unwatchable this is us cannot compete with the americans those shows have diff liberties and keep maurice away too sleepwalking should not merit a nom

Happy about all that were nominated from GH. They are awesome!

Congrats to the cast of Days, the show I watch and love!

Just give the Best Supporting Actor Emmy to Max Gail right now. No disrespect to any of the other names on the list in that category, but it shouldn’t even be a competition. Max has been on another level. And to think, that role was originally planned to only las6 3 months.

The other names that stand out for me, very glad to see Jon Lindstrom’s name after all these years. I don’t recall him ever being nominated or pre-nominated in the past. Hope he makes the final cut. The story has dragged on too much for my liking, but as a performer, he’s been tremendous as Kevin/Ryan.

Maurice Benard got to play a totally different role for him this year as the loving son watching his father slip away to Alzheimer’s. Happy to see his name, he gets way too much unwarranted criticism. There is a reason so many GH nominees submit scenes where they shared the screen with Maurice, year after year. Hope he makes the final list.

Glad to finally see Michelle Stafford’s name for her work on GH, after being a perennial Emmy darling when she was on Y&R. Really all the ladies from GH in the lead category, Maura, Finola, Laura, Michelle, all are fantastic. Maura in particular It will be tough to narrow it down, along with all the very talented ladies from the other shows.

Where is Roger Howarth’s name? I know he’s a polarizing figure, some don’t like him as Franco. But his scenes with the reveal that Franco was sexually molested as a child, that entire storyline, he was raw, he was real, he was amazing. That’s a glaring omission on this list, in my opinion.

How can I vote ? Please air the 46th Daytime Emmy Awards, Prime time TV or Cable . I would love to watch all my favorites of GH . I am very pleased with all… GH nominations . Thank you

Hope Kirsten Storms finally wins. She was great when Nathan died.

So happy the favorite actors & actresses on GH have been nominated!
Please put award ceremony back on TV!!!! Please!!

I do hope that Marci Miller wins. She is the best Abby ever and my friend thinks the same way Kate is ok but we both love Marci better.

Can we watch the Awards on YouTube? Or when it is happening. I’m sure all of the soap fans would love to see it Live.

OK – I’m calling it : tit for tat swap

@General Hospital : Best Lead Actor; Jon Lindstrom
@General Hospital : Best Supporting ; Max Gail

@Days of OUR Lives : Best Lead Actress; Marci Miller
@Days of OUR Lives : Best Supporting ; Kassie DePaiva

Best Show ;Best Writing ;Best directing ; @Days of OUR Lives Triple Crown @Ron Carlivati

^^^ it just sounds and reads a lot of intelligence. ACTORS who craft their chosen profession … take the time and/or have that IT quotient to RUN with any thing. across the board fascinate AND mesmerize. on that note –

it’s Billy Flynn, Chad @DAYS
it’s Drake Hogestyn, John @DAYS

who should be in the top 5 and easily take home emmy

^^^ it sure would be a party

thought steve burton would be on list for best actor.

Kim Kardashian, Emma Roberts and Marlene King Land ‘Calabasas’, a Soap in the Vein of the ‘O.C’ and ‘Beverly Hills 90210’, at Netflix

There has been lot of soapy projects coming to life and in the works of late, and now comes word that Kim Kardashian is executive producing a new series in development for Netflix called Calabasas.

After a bidding war last week, it looks like Netflix cemented the development deal from Kim, and her producing partners American Horror Story co-star Emma Roberts (pictured below) and Pretty Little Liars creators Marlene King and Alexandra Milchan.

The concept of Calabasas is based on the book If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now by Via Bleidner.  King set to write the adaptation and will serve as the series showrunner.

Photo: JPI

According to Deadline, Calabasas is said to be in the vein of primetime young teen and young adult soaps the O.C. and Beverly Hills 90210. The story follows “Via, a 16-year-old sheltered Midwestern Catholic school girl whose world is turned upside down when her family moves and she’s forced to transfer to the fast world of Calabasas High where nothing is as it appears and where everyone is trying to be someone else. It’s a place where dreams come true … but not without complications and sometimes unforeseen consequences.”

Photo: Hulu

As fans of the Kardashians know, Kim and her family made the town of Calabasas a household and worldwide name. Kim being attached to this project helped make its sale. This marks her fourth project to sell since the writers and actors strikes concluded at the end of last summer.

So, would you be interested to see a teen soap called ‘Calabasas’ on Netflix from Kim and company? Comment below.

The Young and the Restless and General Hospital Actress and Writer, Meg Bennett, Passes Away at 75

Meg Bennett, who had played Julia Newman and later became a writer for the top-rated daytime drama, The Young and the Restless has died at the age of 75.  The news comes from her family who shared that she lost her battle to cancer back on April 11th.

Daytime fans remember fondly, Meg’s portrayal of Victor’s (Eric Braeden)first wife. Bennett joined the show in 1980, after her first soap stint for two years in the role of Liza Walton on Search for Tomorrow.

Impressed by her story notes, the late Bill Bell, then head writer of Y&R, had Meg doing double duty acting and writing on the show from 1983-1987. When he decided to write off the character of Julia, he also wanted Meg to stick around as a writer.  Not only did this begin a whole other daytime career for Bennett, but she was not done playing Julia either. Throughout the decades, Julia would still come back to Genoa City for a visit. Most recently, Y&R fans saw Julia in 2018, and again in 2020.

Photo: JPI

Bennett also appeared on Santa Barbara and was a writer on that show as well from 1991-1993. She played the role of Megan Richardson. It was next that Meg had her longest writing stint coming to ABC’s General Hospital. Meg wrote for GH from 1993-2011.

In 1995, Bennett won her first Daytime Emmy for writing and her personal life changed after falling in love with nine-time Daytime Emmy winner, former GH head writer, Bob Guza Jr. In addition, GH also utilized Bennett for her acting skill when she was cast as the villainess Allegra Montenegro.  Meg and Bog Guza were officially married in 2004 and purchased a home once owned by Boris Karloff and Gregory Peck.

Photo: JPI

Additionally, Meg wrote for The Bold and the Beautiful 1987-1989 and later served as a executive story consultant to Brad Bell from 2002-2004.  She also wrote for Sunset Beach, Generations and GH: Night Shift throughout her writing career. She went on to win five WGA Awards for GH and Santa Barbara.

Meg is survived by her husband of 19 years, Robert Guza Jr., two stepdaughters, four grandchildren, a brother and a sister.
