GH’s Maura West Responds to Rumors of Ava Being Killed-Off: “You’ll Have to Watch and See What Happens”

Photo: HutchinsPhoto

Three-time Daytime Emmy-winning actress, Maura West is considered one of the all-time greatest to ever appear in the soap opera genre. In addition, she has remained a popular fan favorite from both her performances as Ava Jerome on General Hospital, and before that as Carly Tenney Snyder on As the World Turns.

Recently, GH viewers noticed that there had been a shift in the character of Ava, where she seems to be back to more of her scheming ways while adding an even larger stack of enemies along the way.

There has been online speculation that perhaps GH is setting up a ‘whodunit’ with Ava as the victim, and if that were to be the case, how could the soap want to lose such a valuable asset as the mighty West? Unless, that’s not what’s going on here.

Michael Fairman TV caught up with Maura last Friday night on the red carpet at the 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards, where we shared that the “fans are worried they are going to kill-off Ava.” West responded, “Are they?  You’ll have to watch and see what happens. That’s all I can tell you.”

Speaking on Ava’s behavior of late, Maura shared, “One of the things I like about her, that I’ve always liked about her, is that one of her major character defects is that she’s reactive. She doesn’t take a pause and think. She reacts out of anger, passion, whatever it is. She’s very quick to react and that’s what she’s doing.”

West also shared what it has been like to work more closely with Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) in recent months, since Ava has been staying with Sonny at his Penthouse.

Maura revealed, “Oh, it’s been awesome. I really enjoy it. I really, I really do. He (Maurice) brings something out in me as an actor, a stillness and a quietness that I love. He brings it out in Ava as well. She moves less, and it brings out another part of what I do.”

Now weigh-in: Do you think GH is truly going to kill-off the character of Ava Jerome, or do you think there might be an attempted murder of the character, or none of this will be proven to come true? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

Maura knows how to tease story very well.

I severely doubt that (being unnominated) she would have attended the show and sat close to Frank if she was indeed departing.

Phew!

Point well taken.

I agree; with General Hospital, she’s only attended when nominated, so I was surprised to see her the other night. That, to me, suggests she is not going anywhere.

I’ve seen people hyphothesize that she’s being painted into a corner and thus will be killed. Since when does being painted into the corner mean you’re done on a soap? Look at Nina, she’s coming back just fine – and actually am liking her more lately.

I agree about Nina too, she seems to thrive on Carly’s leftovers.

I think Roger is coming back as Todd to be paired with Ava

It would be more than about time since ABC came out victorious after the Prospect Park debacle.

I doubt it very much.

GH needs to stop killing off characters for a while, especially of murder or of the latest fatal disease. not everything has to end in death, Ava can have enemies and it doesn’t have to end with someone needing to kill her. Love her scenes lately with Nina and Alexis, a good oh girl fight would be fun.

Getting rid of Maura, killing off Ava, would be a huge mistake. I’d like to think they wouldn’t do it, but nothing would surprise me. Especially with the rumors going around that they were ordered to cut budget, which has in turn led to the rumors of Maura West and Michael Easton leaving the show. Unfortunately, no amount of Emmys, positive press, or anything can change the realities of the TV industry today, particularly at a time when GH is not exactly doing well in the ratings. But rumors are just that, rumors, not confirmed facts.

So as Maura said in the interview with Michael, I will indeed watch and see what happens.

Maura West is among the better assets GH has, and it would be foolish to lose her and the character. But since no one really dies on GH…

She’s so funny–I can just hear her saying that, too, complete with Maura West-trademark vocal inflections and facial expressions.

The only thing that gives me a little bit of pause here is that they did let Roger Howarth go not long ago. I would otherwise have pointed out that it’d be insane for them to even think of getting rid of a character portrayed by a very popular actress with such a large fan base, but I’d have also said Howarth had a job for life (or as long as GH survives without being cancelled), so what do I know?

Killing off Ava (And thus, getting rid of Maura) would be a VERY foolish move on GH’s part. Unfortunately, they’ve made many such moves over the years. (Yes, I’m talking about killing off Franco and getting rid of Roger; sending Obrecht and Lucas on their merry way, etc.)

Also, GH has had many terrible characters that were ripe for a great whodunit and they’ve always dropped the ball. (Thinking of Shiloh, Cyrus and Ryan in particular.) Why in the world would they plan one for one of their greatest assets like Maura West? They’d be nuts to let her go. Now, if they had an ATTEMPTED murder story in mind, that would be one thing, but NOT for reel. (Yes, I mean reel vs real.)

I’d sure hate to see Brian Craig return , only to get involved with Ava again. She’s never been anything but trouble for any man she’s been with.

Bryan Craig is not returning as Morgan Corinthos, nor is the role being written back in.

I certainly hope you are right. He was nothing but a trouble maker his first go-around. With his various girl friends, Ava, his always causing his parents problems, etc.

Going to admit I am one of those who said there might be a chance at a “Who Killed Ava” arc. However, hopefully, Ava will never actually be killed off. GH is currently lining up an impressive grouping of suspects to do the dirty work: Alexis, Joss, Nina, Carly, Kristina, Jason, and once he finds out about those meds – Sonny. Although we all know her demise would happen at the hands of Valentine Cassadine. The PCPD would land on Sonny as the main suspect.

Whenever a soap starts the methodical process of gathering potential killers – we all know what happens next. Telltale sign: the words “I’m going to or I want to – Kill you!” being chanted in front of lots of witnesses usually seals the deal.

Being the She-Devil Ava certainly is – she can fake her death again – or get lost and come back.

None of us want Ava to really be axed off the show – she is way too delicious and our favorite villainess character. But this is a Soap – and Ms Kelly might just need some well-deserved time off.

General Hospital Co-Stars Share Heartfelt Goodbyes to Michael Easton

Michael Easton is set to exit General Hospital on-air tomorrow on the Thursday, June 27th episode of the ABC soap opera. This comes on the heels of the actor’s videotaped announcement on Wednesday via his Instagram, where he revealed that he has wrapped his run as Dr. Hamilton Finn.

Since the time of the video’s posting, several of his GH co-stars have followed suit with comments on their time working with the popular actor, who has been with the show on and off since 2012, and in three different roles; John McBain, Silas Clay, and lastly, Finn.

Michael’s exit comes as Finn has fallen off the wagon, and is losing custody of his daughter, Violet due to his drinking. Previously, Finn found his father, Gregory had passed away in the middle of the night after battling ALS. The material has given Easton a chance to shine in memorable performances as he says goodbye to his time with GH.

Breaking News

Michael Easton Exits General Hospital

UPDATED: Early Wednesday morning, Michael Easton revealed that he has already taped his final scenes as Hamilton Finn on General Hospital.

The popular actor, who arrived at GH after his enduring run as John McBain on One Life to Live, took to his Instagram and announced his departure from the ABC daytime drama series, following weeks of rumors that he was out at the show. Reportedly, Easton’s final airdate is Thursday, June 27th and the video Easton posted was pre-taped awhile ago.

Standing outside the entrance to the set of General Hospital in what seems to be the wee hours of the morning, Easton shared the following message to his fans: “I’ve always been partial to the Irish Wish goodbye. That’s where you leave the party without actually telling anyone you’re gone. But I thought you all deserved better.”

Photo: MEastonIG

Easton then expressed, “So, I just wanna let you know, I just filmed my final scenes here at General Hospital. I’ve loved every minute that I’ve been here. I want to thank the entire cast and crew for allowing me to share their stage this past 10 years. Most importantly, I wanna thank all of you for the kindness and love you shown me and my family. I won’t ever forget you.”

In an emotional closing, Michael ended his video message, with, “As I walk out here for the last time, and with apologies to the great Lou Gehrig, I feel like the luckiest man on the face of the earth.” Ironically, the former New York Yankees baseball star in Easton’s reference, died of ALS (also known as “Lou Gehrig disease”), which was part of the storyline Michael recently played out on-screen with Finn’s dying father, Gregory, who had the same disease.

Michael punctuated his thoughts within the Instagram post with one final goodbye, “Thank you for your kindness. My heart is filled with love and gratitude.”

Currently in story, Finn has lost his sobriety after seven years, and is in the midst of a serious downfall after his father, Gregory passed away and his daughter, Violet (Jophielle Love) has been taken out of his home and has been served a restraining order to not come near her. How will Easton depart GH? Is Finn exiting the Port Charles canvas to get the help he needs?

Clearly, this marks the end of the line for Finn and Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) as they just had it out over his drinking, and with yesterday’s announced return of Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) to GH this summer.

Photo: ABC

Easton’s GH journey started when he took Llanview’s McBain to Port Charles after One Life was canceled. He debuted on the long-running soap in March 13, 2012. However, due to the legal disputes with ownership of the characters from One Life to Live, between ABC and Prospect Park, he had to leave the series. Michael’s last episode as McBain was in March of 2013. Next, General Hospital brought him back as a new character, Silas Clay, in May of 2013. Two years later in 2015, Silas was killed-off.  Easton made one more GH run, this time as Dr. Hamilton Finn which he had been playing since the spring of 2016.

Throughout Easton’s time on General Hospital, he has earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series back in 2018.  Given his recent performances, many suspect that Michael might close his time on GH with another Emmy nomination in 2025.

You can watch Easton’s emotional goodbye below.

Jonathan Jackson Addresses Fans on His Return as GH’s Lucky: “Your Persistence and Love Has Certainly Played a Part in All of This”

Earlier on Tuesday, it was revealed that General Hospital’s five-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Jonathan Jackson is making a return to the ABC soap opera for the first time since 2015.

Jackson is now set to reprise his role as Luke (Tony Geary) and Laura’s (Genie Francis) son, Lucky Spencer.  Shortly after the soap world was abuzz at the news of his imminent arrival back in Port Charles, Jonathan took to his Instagram with his own personal message to his fans.

Jonathan started, “Hey everyone. I just wanted to let you know that I will be returning to General Hospital this summer as Lucky Spencer. Super excited and can’t wait to dig in and see what’s going on in Port Charles. Excited to see Genie Francis, obviously, and so many others.”

Photo: JPI

“Just wanted to say thank you to all of the fans over the years,” he continued. “Your persistence and love has certainly played a part in all of this. So I just wanted to say thank you. Also, to Frank Valentini (executive producer, General Hospital) and everybody at ABC for welcoming me back. Super excited. So, just sending much love, and I guess, I’ll be seeing you all fairly soon. God bless.”

The actor and musician’s video post was accompanied by the words, “excited for the journey” to continue, and so are we! Lucky was last seen in 2015 when Jackson returned to the soap to be a part of Tony Geary’s final storyline as Luke.  At the time of Lucky’s exit from the canvas he left things on good terms with Elizabeth and the children.

So, now the question is, h0w does Lucky arrive back in Port Charles this summer? Share your theories via the comment section below.
