REPORT: IS GH Favorite Steve Burton About To Have New Gig On The Young and the Restless?

Big report from TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan the morning after Christmas has Daytime Emmy winner and recently exited star of General Hospital, Steve Burton (Ex-Jason Morgan) signing a new deal to play a role on The Young and the Restless!
To many that news may not come as a surprise since it would re-team Burton with long time GH executive producer (who now helms Y&R) Jill Farren Phelps. In addition, it has been no secret that Phelps and Burton are business partners and even working on a telenovela project together.
As soapers know, Burton left General Hospital three months ago to move to Nashville to relocate his wife and children for a life away from Hollywood and to become involved in new endeavors. Â Now with this news of an impending arrival of Burton to Genoa City so soon after his departure from GH, it begs the question, was this plan in the works for awhile?
According to TVG, the report of Burton to Y&R is unconfirmed by CBS at this time. Whatever the case, if Burton is back on-screen on The Young and the Restless, who would you want him to play? Weigh-in and let us know what you think of a decision by Burton to play a brand new part on the number one soap, as opposed to returning to GH?

I totally agree that Steve Burton is slapping GH in the face and the fans! I feel like he is helping trying to get it cancelled! He left for Y&R and wasn’t man enough to tell the truth , wonder what his friends over at GH think?

I agree, it feels like a slap in the face to GH fans. We were made to believe he was moving for his family so they could live the quiet life. If he’s moving to YR he’ll still be away from his family. I’m very disappointed and hurt.

Agreed. Feel like we’ve been played for fools. I won’t watch Y&R. Tried for a few years ago and never cared for it. Besides GH is just too good, even without him. It goes on with great s/l’s even though Jason and Sam are over. Maybe she can move on with John after all.

Yup, since his secret leaked out for all the world to see, we now know that the TN story was NOT the reason he was quitting GH. It had nothing whatsoever to do with it. Misleading interview in SID/October. He’ll work in LA for Y&R but won’t work in LA for GH? Not happy. You mean he couldn’t at least wait until April and be on for the 50th? No chance of that now.
This is like the ultimate betrayal. We have stuck with him through all the years. He would have been nothing without the General Hospital Fans, I am very disappointed in him. What does this teach his children? People who are very loyal to you mean nothing? I have lost all respect for him. Sad very sad.

Rcraig ever since the voice Bill Bell died the show has gone down hill. JFP does this everywhere she goes. Before she is thru one of the ladies on this show will have a brutal attack that is what the woman lives for. She is perverted!
I guess you don’t consider poor Diane Jenkins getting her skull bashed in by Nikki brutal? Nor Ricky drowning his fiancee or trying to slash Eden’s throat. What about Sharon being raped by Matt? Or Lauren being buried alive? The stripper chick getting her face burned? Or what Kevin did to poor Colleen? What about April Stevens getting beaten by her husband? Or Nikki having to kill her own father who was trying to rape her? My point- violence against women isn’t just the domain of one writer or producer- it has been a constant theme in this soap and others over the years. What I find upsetting is this woman (JFP) firing long time behind the scenes people right before Christmas- now that is just plain cold.
I never said their was not violence before JFP just saying she does have a blood thirst for it ok chill I have not liked the stories since Bil Bell quit being the mastermind behind it and he made mistakes but he knew his characters!
I wasn’t upset. I just thought it a bit unfair to attack JFP’s character and call her perverted just because she has written story lines with violence in them, when so many other writers have done the same, including Bill Bell Sr. and those writers personal character were never attacked based on the stories they wrote. IMO, and the point I was trying to relay was her story lines may or may not reflect the kind of person she is, but her actions, such as firing long time employees before the holidays does.
Mary here again- as a long time viewer and fan of AW it bothered me that I couldn’t remember anything about Frankie’s death, so yesterday I went on YouTube and watched the clip to refresh my memory; I think it must have aired when I missed a number of shows due to an illness and death in my family because I would have remembered scenes like that. But you were right, they showed far more detail than needed to make their point, but no one could say watching those scenes were like watching paint dry. It is a sad reality that sex and violence sells. I guess we should be grateful that JFP didn’t employ the serial killer sl to get rid of characters she didn’t like in GC- not yet anyway.

Mary I am still upset with her because of the brutal attack on Frankie Frame on Another World it was really awful and then the rape of Eden on Santa Barbara I just find it a little odd that is her choices. I know she is not the only one out there that does it but trust me if you ever saw the brutal murder of Frankie Frame it was way over the top for daytime.

I’ll be VERY disappointed if Steve shows up on TY&R!! I doubt many other fans will appreciate it either. Instead of loving him at General Hospital, it now feels like he’s a traitor. 🙂

There was no reason for him to lie to all the fans if he really just wanted to work with JFP again on another show. I would not have liked to hear it – but I would have respected him. Now, maybe not so much…

I say no more babies – not like they do much on the show once the character has them. No more OLTLers either – I have no desire to see Natalie. They need to somehow get Sam & John to spend more time together or that spark will go away for good. Too many characters on GH and these two have taken a backseat so it’s time they take center stage again.
I want John with Natalie ultimately but in the mean time bring on Natalie and put her with Johnny to make John jealous NOW that would be fun! Sam can be friends witrh John or a passing fancy Natalie is his fiery redhead.
If he would have been truthfull from the start of this, “I’m moving on” , etc. maybe fans would have understood that he’s looking for new challenges, but NO, he had to stick the TN sob story into it. It is called ego. He cannot handle the fact that FV and RC spread the story all over the canvas and NOT just on a couple. GH has not been this great in years, and this is from someone who celebrates 50 yrs on April1. SB stands behind is faith, and yet he does this. Like the saying goes actions speak louder than words. FINALLY, Genie Francis can come back as Laura and get the respect and story that a vet deserves. I said the day that Phelps was announced at YR that Genie’s days were numbered at YR. I HAD watched yr off and on throughout the yrs as it was my mom’s show. BUT when Phelps CRAP started showing, I quit recording it. I thought that SB was an ok actor, but he was not EVER Tony Geary, and will never be. My only hope is that when he wants to return to GH, after Phelps “works her magic” and is shown the door, TPTB say “very kindly”……….hahahahahahahaha.
Yes, Jill gave him the perks he wanted and couldn’t get from FV. How about: a nice paycheck, control over his character, lots of vaca time for Port Chuck, the amount of taping days he likes, NO love scenes and probably no shirt removal either. I feel this deal was in the works when his contract was coming up for renewal.
I think it was pretty crappy for Steve B. to tell all the GH fans he was departing to move his family out of LA and then a mere 3 months later to take a job inLA!!! And with his good buddyJFP…sounds a bit fishy to me….bet this was all planned when he left GH!

Tells you just how important his “money” is to him. If the fans do not like a character, eventually, the character meets an untimely end. And all the people that have been “a fool” over him, the way I, to this day, am over Tony Geary, should be very po’ed. I made the comment on the day he announced with “regret” that he was leaving to move his family, that he was leaving to go to YR. KARMA is going to bite him and all the true GH followers can get a good laugh. I was NEVER that taken with him. I really only enjoyed his scenes with Robin and Elizabeth. So to me, it was no big loss…..BUT when Genie Francis left GH shortly after THE wedding, I felt as though a family member had died; so I know how all the sb fans feel. So, I feel so so sorry for them in feeling the loss and feeling the slap in the face. Just remember that GH is on the upswing, and YR is slipping at a very regular pace.
Fine with me! Y&R can have him. I’ve seen Muppets deliver performances with greater emotional range than Steve Burton, and Y&R is like watching paint dry, especially compared to GH these days where they treat every day like it’s “cliffhanger Friday.”

If this story is true, I don’t have much respect for Steve Burton. I thought moving his family to Nashville to experience a new life and do other projects there, despite his love for GH was noble and a brave thing to do. If he joins Y&R, despite his friendship with Jill, the reason he left GH makes no sense now because he’ll be back in LA. Perhaps he’ll be commuting, but if that’s the case, why couldn’t he commute for GH? Something’s rotten in Denmark here!

Steve made a big error in using his TN sob story as an excuse to QUIT GH. He wouldn’t work in LA for GH, but will work in LA for Y&R? I guess he thought his fans were a bunch of dummys since alot of them fell for Monavie, The 90 Day Challenge, etc.

Everybody was praising Steve for his integrity. If he does move to Y&R, it just proves what a fake he is. All of his personal appearances weren’t just to meet his fans, it was to collect the paycheck. Then he decides to move his whole family to Nashville because of demons that parade around LA. If I was huge fan of Y&R, I’d be mighty upset that Phelps is continuing to hire her peeps. I’ve actually been watching a little bit of YR and fall asleep everytime Avery and Nick are on. Typical Phelps, YR is leaning towards mega dark & depressing. If Steve wants to work with Phelps that bad, then have at it. All I know, is that since Burton has left GH, that show has been able to fully shine the storyline light onto everyone.

Steve Burton has not acted in a long time, he slept through his role on GH for years. Now maybe he could get a role that makes him shine again.

As a Y&R viewer, this news does NOT thrill me. I tolerated him on GH (barely) and was happy to see him leave. The show is soooooo much better without him and his insufferable Jason character. I just hope that Sony takes a firm hand and doesn’t allow JFP to make him the show’s “star” (UGH). The Y&R audience (not to mention its vets) will not be pleased.
Wow! SO much Steve Burton negativity/hate going on here! I don’t see this as a “slap in the face” to his fans at all! I am a Steve Burton fan first; a GH fan second, so, if this “rumor” of him going to Y&R is true, I’m excited/happy for him & will support his decision all the way! He & JFP work(ed) well together! It simply sounds to me like JFP/Y&R were willing/able to offer him the “best of both worlds” that GH was not willing to negotiate; a role & contract that will allow him to “commute” from his home in TN. I haven’t watched Y&R since the days when Steve’s buddy Scott Reeves was on it…but it Steve does, in fact, go to Y&R, I’ll start watching Y&R again…& will continue to watch #GH as well!
I don’t think his going to another show is a slap in the face to GH fans, per se. I think his basic dishonesty about why he was leaving GH (assuming this story proves to be true) IS something people have a right to be upset about, and I think it does call his integrity into question.
It’s a business, and people want to work for bosses they like and bosses whom they feel appreciate them; I think we all understand that. It’s possible he was just trying to be diplomatic about his reasons for leaving GH, but unfortunately people really took what he was saying to heart and believed it, and now he’s going to have that following him.
I’m neutral. Unlike some on here, I do think he’s very talented, although I was tired of Jason years ago because of the writing, and I think Jason’s exit from Port Charles was a necessary part of steering the show away from mob/crime focus, which I think had run its course. I wish him well in his new endeavor. So far I’m not impressed with what JFP has done with Y&R, and I don’t think she’s made a dent in the ratings tumble yet (though it’s really too early to pass judgment on that; she’s only been there about three months). It could be that this will end up being a very short-term gig for him if JFP does not last.

I will believe it when I see it! Steve will finally have to show some acting, good looks or not, The Avery story can be the only place he can go now, I think. That is why Nick opened the jar in Avery’s drawer and found her exes dog tags. Later, when Avery was alone, she also looked at them. Somethimg or someone is arriving soon……

I started watching GH after he left, so I don’t know much about him. However, I do know actors often give reasons for leaving a show that might not have anything to do with the true reason for their leaving. He might have just been sick and tired of playing the same character day in and day out for x amount of years. He wouldn’t say that in public but it is a possibility or he did move for his family, but is doing a favor for a friend- and this character is a short term one. As a Y&R fan, I will reserve judgment until I see him on screen to decide on whether or not his presence is hurting or helping the show

I guess only time will tell if it is true. Personally, if Steve Burton goes back to soaps, I would vote his return to GH, as I miss Steve/Jason’s presence. Although, if he does go to Y & R, maybe it is just to have a steady gig, while he is working on his other ventures, and possibly JFP, is making that opportunity available to him, since they are working on other projects together. At this point, we can all just speculate, time will tell . . . Happy Holidays to All !!!

JFP is clearly out of the loop. Steve Burton will not work on Y&R. I like Steve but the chemistry will not work for that show. It does not take a brain surgeon to figure that out. It is unbelievable this woman gets paid to do this work. She brought GH down and she will bring Y&R down. I feel sorry for the fans of Y&R. This woman has tunnel vision. Too bad for Steve. He left a solid position to follow this limited vision woman.

JFP will change the show that is a certainity, as to she whether or not she will ruin it, unless Sony wants her too, I think they will pull the plug on her before letting that happen. Prospect Park very well may not make it, but whether they do or they don’t, the last thing any of us need is another voice expressing with such profundity opinions that have no more basis in fact than anyone else’s. It’s not only massively irritating, it makes the person expressing the opinion with such pomposity seem just a bit of a – you fill in the word.

I don’t come from the age group that all of us get a trophy when we played soccer.. some of us lost and some of us won.. we have some winners and some losers out there… .. it builds character…. Some times we all needs to face the bad news!
I don’t come from that age group either – if, indeed, such an age group really exists and isn’t, instead, just an invention to invite dissension.
But I also do not come from an age group or any other group that automatically believes bad news before it comes, or thinks that an immediate investment in negativity or pessimism is smart thinking.

I just think it’s hilarious. Not many actors are honest with whats really going on and who can blame them. Rabbid fans will be tearing them to shreds over thier personal decisions. GH hasnt been loyal to it’s employees, why should they be loyal back.
I hope this news isn’t true, if it is then how disappointing, Steve Burton will loose me as a fan.
I was shocked myself to hear the news. But I was more shocked to hear all his fans get angry about it. I too will miss him on GH but he is a great actor, and if he wants to try to do anything else so be it. I send Steve my best wishes for him and support his choice, but can still say I will miss him. He hasnt even confirmed this yet too…so the fans have to wait to see what he has to say. It does amaze me how many soap fans across the net are quick to turn or judge an actor. I feel the soap fans are better than that. I thought.
I totally agree! I am saddened about all the negativity. He is and always will be one of my favorites and I am happy he may have a chance to play a different character. I would love to have him back on GH as Jason, but he did it for 22 years… I can’t imagine doing the same job for 22 years… I am happy for whatever work and success he has.
Fans have different expectations from actors on soaps, now if Steve Burton got a tv gig on primetime then you would hear a more supportive response but with actors especially if their popular like Steve is on GH then the loyalty is to the show n character . It does hurt when a popular actor leaves for a competing show. They are probably asking why is he more loyal to jfp then GH ? But all this could be premature news but the fact that its coming from TV guide well makes everyone feel betrayed if its true. I’ll support Steve if its a movie gig or primetime show but forget it if its y&r.
I understand the fans’ upset. He said he was leaving GH to move to Nashville. If he had said he was leaving because he wanted a job change or was tired of playing the character, there wouldn’t have been this much upset. But to say, I’m leaving GH to move and then to appearing to take a job on a competing show understandably causes anger. Fans think he lied to them. Hopefully he will make a statement if he is going to Y&R. Maybe he can spin that it was just too good a deal to give up or maybe he’s only going to be working a few days a week so he can commute to and fro Nashville. I know Tricia Cast lives in Nashville and is on Y&R. Granted, it’s very sporadic, but it can be done.
It’s the impression that Steve lied to his fans that have them up in arms.

Burton knows how beloved his character on GH is; if he returns to tv after telling his fans he left to move his family away and does not return to GH, that is certainly his prerogative, but I will no longer be a fan of his. I will not watch anything he is in – including the number one rated soap.

If it’s true, it stinks that he said he was leaving the show to stay in TN, however, had he said he wanted to stretch his acting muscles – then I could understand wanting to take on another role; it’s what actors do.

I totally support Steve moving on from GH. The writers made Jason Morgan so one dimensional. Steve can act. He’s done projects outside of GH that have allowed him to showcase his true ability. I was so hoping Jason M. would hit his head and turn back into Jason Quartermaine just so he could show some true emotion. If he wants to go to Y& R more power to him. He’s been locked into that boring monotonous role for way too long. I’ll watch him. I’m already a fan of their show. There are only four of them left. I kinda watch them all. Bringing him on the canvass as Avery’s ex would be great. Why does Nick get all of the women? And I’m sorry but Joshua Morrow can’t act. I think Steve will be a great addition. This is his job. Wouldn’t you go work where you felt fulfilled?!?!

BEST SOAP NEWS IN YEARS! I have been a huge Steve Burton fan since he first appeared on GH, but I quit watching GH shortly before his departure. The character of Jason Morgan died in Mexico years ago as far as I’m concerned, and that is when I started watching Y&R. I’m thrilled Steve is coming to the show. I hope he is playing a new character with a storyline worth his talent. GH had him in the worse pairing ever and it showed in his performance. I don’t feel betrayed, this is a business and he has a family to look out for first and foremost. I hope he never returns to GH. Now I only wish JFP would find a way to hire away Rebecca Herbst too!
Back when they fired and then rehired RH their were rumors Y&R was wooing her for a Mac recast so like I said on another thread if GH is not going to use her bring her on. I had a friend who will go nameless who is in the business and said all soaps are dark during the Holidays as we all know so this may be nothing more then gossip about SB! That being said I could see him doing this role of the war vet from Avery’s past.
If Steve Burton is unavailable and the GH production team feels a need to bring back the Jason Morgan character, they should feel free to recast the role. After all, how hard can it be to find a musclebound cipher in Los Angeles? Just go to The Abbey any weekend night.

Can somebody please hand me a sleeping tablet and wake me up when all this fuss is over. If he ends up on Y&R, so be it. The shame will be that most people won’t believe anything else he ever has to say. It won’t matter what the circomstances are. As for me, I wish him well whatever he does, but I won’t be following him to Y&R. My loyalities are with GH. Now please excuse me, I’m going to sleep. Yawn.
This is not a surprise on any level. SB’s statement about his reasons for leaving GH were transparent to begin with. And we shouldn’t forget that this is the same guy who sold fans on a power drink pyramide scheme not all that long ago, so him lying to the fans is nothing new. But even without that, so often actors aren’t allowed to state the “truth”, whatever it may be, when exiting a show or network if they want to work there some time in the future.
Y&R is rapidly circling the drain, and hiring JFP to repair the damage done by MAB has proven to be a disaster. Her vision for soaps kills them dead most of the time, and if the show manages to survive, the damage she does to the core of the shows she works with can take years to undo.
Casting SB on Y&R should be a red flag to JFP’s bosses that she lets her ego dictate her job, because SB has always been a limited talent, and the catering done to him on GH in the past 10 years has been disastrous to the tiny bit of talent he may at one time have possessed.
He won’t add anything to the train wreck that Y&R currently is, but we can take heart that his mediocre talent can’t do it much more harm either.
Hate to say I told you so, but….called this one before he left GH. Y&R can have him and hopefully in his new role he’ll show some interest. I like Y&R too, so I wish everyone the best. But Mr. Burton, you sir, treated your devoted fans like something you scraped off the bottom of your shoe and they deserved better. Liar. Or worse yet FOJ (Friends of Jill).

Lane Davies Joins the Cast of General Hospital Setting up a ‘Santa Barbara’ Reunion with Nancy Lee Grahn
Some very intriguing casting news out of General Hospital. The ABC daytime drama has cast former Santa Barbara favorite, Lane Davies (ex-Mason Capwell), in the role of Fergus Byrne, an attorney who crosses paths with Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn).
According to TV Insider, Davies will make debut the week of May 22nd. As soap fans know, together with the aforementioned Grahn, they created the Santa Barbara supercouple of Mason and Julia Wainwright. Davies portrayed Mason Capwell family from 1984 through 1989.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time in Port Charles for Lane. From 2002-2004 he played Dr. Cameron Lewis and also shared on-screen story with Grahn. At that time Davies, played Xander Smith’s father.

GH fans are wondering about the last name of Davies new character, “Bryne”. If you recall, Alexis got herself involved with therapist Dr. Neil Bryne, who died when Harmony broke into Alexis‘ house and killed Neil by injecting him with opioids.

Taking to her Instagram, Grahn shared her excitement at the upcoming on-screen reunion with Davies, “It never gets old. We do 😂…. but it doesn’t 😍. Lookin’ forward to another romp.”

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nikolas Gets an Earful from Ava About Sonny and His Meds; Nina and Drew Can’t Seem to Resist Each Other
Ava (Maura West) seems to feel she has a confidante in a jailed Nikolas (Adam Huss) on the Monday, April 29th episode of General Hospital. In story, Ava heads to Pentonville to visit her ex-husband before he is set to get transferred out of state.
When discussing her living relationship with Sonny (Maurice Benard), which Nikolas already knew about, Ava says she is happy about how her relationship with Sonny has been evolving, Nikolas ask if she’s in love with Sonny. Ava denies it, but goes on to say how great it is for her daughter, Avery to be living with both her parents, who are on the same side and not at odds.
Nikolas believes that Ava loves being in Sonny’s inner sanctum and the power that comes with it. Ava fires back that she spent years looking in from the outside and that everyone despised her. When Nikolas brings up Nina (Cynthia Watros), she says Nina never really could understand the true type of man that Sonny is.

Then, Ava launches in on Carly (Laura Wright), and how she would love to stick it to her, for all the times she blocked Ava from seeing her child and Carly’s attitude towards her. Then, Ava admits to Nikolas that she knows that Sonny has a watered-down version of his bipolar medication, which is making him more vulnerable and she’s capitalizing on it for her own gain. She says she needs to figure out who is responsible, but Nikolas voices concern for Ava’s plan and that if Sonny ever found out she knew about it and did nothing, he would be on the warpath against her. Ava promises she knows what she’s doing. When she says goodbye to Nikolas, he looks upset and sad, as he still seemingly cares for Ava.

Meanwhile in Drew’s (Cameron Mathison) office, Nina walks in complaining about Carly giving her a hard time about maintenance in her office. Nina wants payback for Jason (Steve Burton) buying Carly the hotel, but Drew is not up for playing games with her. She says they both want revenge on Jason and Carly, which Drew denies. Next thing you know, Nina grabs Drew and kisses him. Although, it seems he might walk out the door and away from her, he locks it, and the two proceed to have round 2 of their hate-sex.

Elsewhere, Anna tells Jason about her shooting Charlotte and her concern about Valentin’s (James Patrick Stuart) involvement with Pikeman. Meanwhile, Valentin visits Jack Brennan (Charles Mesure) in Pentonville, where threats are laid out to make Sonny look like the guilty party in eliminating Jason, while Anna is the line of fire, if she doesn’t keep her nose out of Pikeman business, which worries Valentin, who doesn’t want Anna getting hurt in any of this.

Haley Pullos Receives 90-Day Jail Sentence Following DUI Charge And Wrong-Way Car Crash
Former General Hospital actress, Haley Pullos (ex-Molly Lansing-Davis) is going to be doing time in jail, exactly one-year after her arrest from a hit and run wrong-way car collision.
The crash resulted in bodily harm and damages to the other driver, and now Pullos who pleaded “no contest” to the charges and will serve 90 days in jail. She was taken in custody on Monday, April 29th, after the ruling.
According to Haley’s attorney, Mark Daniel Melnick, the 25-year-old actress struck a plea deal and after her three months in jail will be sentenced on July 29th. As part of that sentencing, she must serve five years probation, 200 hours of community service and pay $8,260 in restitution to Courteney Wilder, the other driver in the crash and her driver’s license is revoked for a year.

According to TMZ, the plea deal for Pullos has the “no contest” to one DUI, while the judge dropped the felony DUI causing bodily injury and misdemeanor hit and run charges.
Melnick said in a statement to PEOPLE, “Haley is very grateful to the court for a minimum sentence and for recognizing her remorse and the strides she has made in her sobriety.”
Pullos had played the daughter of Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn) on the ABC soap opera since 2009, but after her car crash and DUI she was replaced by three different actresses until the show finally settled on the current Molly, Kristen Vaganos.

Back in April 29 of 2023, and at the scene of the crash, the police found edibles and mini-bottles of tequila in Pullos’ vehicle and that she was intoxicated. As it turned out, this was to be the second hit and run in the evening for Pullos who had an earlier collision with another car.
The courts decision follows a year-long legal battle with Haley’s pleas changing throughout it, ranging from “not guilty” to “no contest”. She sought treatment for her drinking at a rehab following the crash.
Nancy Lee Grahn, who portrayed Pullos’ on-screen mom took to X on Monday night, April 29th and shared on the sentence and the specific jail, Haley will be serving time: “As Haley’s TV mom I can tell some truths about her as I’ve loved her since she was little girl. She made a HUGE mistake, knows it, owns it & has spent the last yr doing EVERYTHING imaginable to take responsibility 4 it. It’s not that I oppose jail. It’s that I oppose this jail.” The jail in question by Grahn is the L.A. county jail.
