Tyler Christopher Shares Statement On Honoring His Past As GH's Nikolas Cassadine To His New Beginnings On DAYS!

Courtesy/ABC

Daytime fans learned the news earlier on Thursday that Tyler Christopher has joined Days of our Lives in an undisclosed role and will begin to air six months from now.

With that, GH fans who were hoping the Daytime Emmy-winning star would return to his role as the dark prince, Nikolas Cassadine found their hopes dashed.

But when one door closes, another one opens, and Tyler is set to wow audiences again this time in Salem under head writer Ron Carlivati, who also gave Tyler several key stories during his time at GH.  In a statement made on facebook page merging the past with his future. Tyler wrote: “It has been a true blessing to be able to do what I love for the past 22 years. It feels like just yesterday that I pulled over to a pay phone on Sunset Blvd to answer a page (yes a page) from my agent telling me I had gotten the roll of Nikolas Cassadine on General Hospital. I dropped to me knees, still barely clutching the phone in what can only be described as child-like disbelief at getting a Christmas present I thought Santa had forgotten about but didn’t deserve. I often wonder what my life would of been like if Mark Teschner hadn’t seen beyond the fragile inexperience clearly on display during our first meeting in late 1995. Fortunately for me…he did. Thank you Nikolas Cassadine for championing my career. In so many ways – I think I needed you more than you needed me. And thank you (insert DOOL character) for reminding me what a privilege it is to be an actor.”

So, what did you think of the heartfelt sentiments shared by Tyler? Comment below.

Hope he will be an Alamain…and better written than whatshisface (he played David Hayward on AMC but i cant think of the actor’s name and was it Deimos he played) on Days before being killed off…

Vincent Irizarry.

Vincent Irizarry is OLDER than Genie Francis!!! NO bad choice

Whoops thought you meant Vincent to play Nik

Personally I will not miss him.
I wish him luck on DOOL.

Agreed. We’re outnumbered, Karen. Tyler never appealed to me. I guess it’s one of those things.
I do not see anything spectacular about him, at least, not as much as all the fans’ accolades make him out to be.

I concur with you both! Although I never held any animus for Tyler’s Nik, I also didn’t harbor great affection for him either. I was pretty neutral, as he was the accepted Cassadine heir for an age and was basically non-offensive for most of his GH existence. However, I really didn’t like how the character was changed in the last year or so, what with that pairing with Hayden and the dark side of his persona apparently emerging…it simply didn’t work for me. Hence as much as I applaud this actor for graciously bowing out of his long time role and honoring his loyal fans, I cannot honestly say that I will miss him all that much…provided a really good Nikolas recast is the offing! Such a move would leave me satisfied, since the character does need to return to the GH canvas sooner—rather than later— to tie up many loose ends regarding his not-so-illustrious clan’s myriad mysteries.

Nikolas Cassadine – One of my favorite characters. Tyler Christopher one of my favorite actors.

Tyler will be missed so dearly, he is quite the eye candy on GH & I hope he can come back soon.

I’ll miss him on GH, but I’m happy he has a new job. I’m an off and on viewer with Days, so I plan to tune in when he appears. I wish him the best and hope his new character is fun to watch.

Ron C. Is doing some amazing things at DAYS as head writer!

Hmmmm. We’ll shall see what we shall see.
(Not optimistic,)

He has a right to move on if he doesn’t want to play Nicholas anymore but I will miss him. I hope that they don’t replace Nicholas or lucky on gh the original actors, johnthan Jackson and Tyler Christopher) are the only ones who should play them I will miss u dearly Nicholas cassadine! I wish u the best for your career

This is great news. I have said that DOOL has missed having a true leading man since James Scott left the role of EJ. Billy Flynn is the closest to fill the role. But now, we have a Best Actor (Daytime Emmy) coming on board. I hope he is either a recast for EJ or Peter Blake. This is great news!

I like hearing that Tyler is grateful for what he had before and what he’s gotten now. This whole thing being under wraps has me curious. Could he be Zack? Is it possible the characterwasn’t run over by Chelsea all those years ago? This could go so many ways!!!

wow! That would be an intriguing plot line.

I know soaps SORAS kids all the time, but Tyler being “Zack” would be crazy. Tyler is 45 and would look ridiculous opposite Kristian Alfonso as his mom and Brandon Beemer as his older brother. Zach should be a teen at the most.

wasn’t Zack an organ donor?maybe he could be John Thomas(J.T.)

I would MUCH rather have Tyler Christopher at “GH” than Steve Burton.

Me too.
Who do you think should play Nickolas now?
The buzz on the other sites is Michael Muhney.

That would be fine with me. Nik needs to be back on the canvas and reignite his affair with Ava.

I like Nick Stabile because he had good chemistry with Maura West. But, there isn’t really much for Nikolas to do right now. If his fortune is Valentin’s, how will he support himself? He’s not a doctor or a lawyer. He’s only really good at being a Greek prince, which is boring when he’s destitute. I think there is only room on GH for one Cassadine at a time on Spoon Island. Currently, that’s Valentin.

Best of luck to Tyler. I probably will only tune in to DOOL to see Eileen Davidson’s arc. I may see him. Too bad about GH. Port Charles has become such a disaster. The entire show revolves around Sonny and Carly, and every conversation and scene somehow revolves around the “magic” of these two selfish characters or their son, “The Moron.” I can’t stand it. I barely watch the show, but when I do, it’s the same ol’ story. It’s too bad that TPTB could not negotiate with Tyler-a legacy character with ties to a core family.

Very true, dmr! Until GH climbs out of the tired old muck and mire which has become the endlessly monotonous “Carly and Sonny” saga, they will not attract people to the show and will undoubtedly keep driving more and more of its loyal base away to other soaps which feature and revere traditional favorites/core families or from daytime altogether. This is the message repeated time and time again by umpteen posters at this website and yet, it still seems to be falling on deaf ears at GH, or the very least, ABC.

Agree with you again, Shay!

Nicely put. Class act. Left GH without disrespecting the fans. Unlike an actor that jumped to the competition and expects to be lauded for returning. Best of luck, Tyler. Hopefully Carlivati will write you a memorable character

I do admire that he doesn’t disrespect fans–and I thought his Emmy speech was really humble and gratifying. Kudos to the actor for that!
And they did kind of ruin his character on GH.
I’m sad that he and Genie didn’t get to play more together. They were wonderful when he first came on–and Genie elevates everyone else’s performance (even Tony Geary’s). Psssst! Don’t tell TG I said that; he might hit me–LOL.

He is a class act. Good luck Tyler.

Wish him all the best might watch now days , stopped
For a long time love Chad too. Miss him so much
On GH!!

Okay, so now that he is going to be on DAYS, how about Rebecca Budig?

I am very excited for Tyler to start a new Endeavor with days. But I will surely miss his character on GH. We have enjoyed his undermining Behavior and we have enjoyed his loving personality when he was in love. Although I am not a days fan maybe I will tune into it to see how Tyler is doing. Best of luck with your new career on your new soap. GH will miss you. Maybe you can stop by in a spirit form until we find your body.

Still Nickolas, just recast little Nicky as Aunt Viv is also back.

Disappointed to hear Tyler won’t be reprising the role if they bring Nicolas back. Loved his post, though…

“Thank you Nikolas Cassadine for championing my career. In so many ways – I think I needed you more than you needed me.” Great tribute to the character and to the fans, acknowledging a character many of us love..and so touching to express how much playing this role meant to him and his career.

Best of luck, Tyler.

Good news for DAYS. Mr. Christopher was very good as Nikolas, watchable even though the family itself wears thin for me. I may return to Salem but not if stories get to weird and other worldly.

GH was once considered a jewel. What has happened? Too much mob and violence, not enough romance and realism. The best most-loved serials were based on core families. No one believes in families anymore, it seems. Port Charles has become a community of lost souls and sick people the hospital cannot help. There is no hero anymore.

I think it’s a shame that under Frank’s regime we are losing so many fabulous Gh vets. It’s starting to look more like OLTL. While I do love those actors Gh vets should not be losing their spots on GH for them. We need an overhaul with all tptb at Gh. GH sadly is not what it used to be. They cant honor the history if they dont take the time to know it! Sorry we lost another great actor.

Boy, I’m gonna miss you . . . GH flags at half mast.

Thrilled to hear Tyler C. Is joining Days. I have missed him as Nicholas Cassasdine.

No one can ever take place of James Scott as EJ. So, i hope Tyler is a part of Kiriakis clan and has lots of story with Tyler’s driend

Friend and mentor, Stephen Nichols. Loved them together many yrs ago on GH. Mary Beth Evans was Tyler’s first screen kiss. Hope they all have story.
G
I am ready to let Chad go from DiMera family. Leave it to to Tony snd Kate

“Daytime television invites viewers into the private lives of characters, often bringing important issues like cancer screenings into living rooms and around water coolers. Soaps debuted the first cancer storyline in 1962 – years before the topic was discussed in the mainstream, and it left an indelible impact: a whole generation of women who scheduled a potentially life-saving Pap smear for the first time,” said Daytime Stands Up host Alan Locher. “For so many viewers, this brought the issue front and center,” added co-host Michael Fairman. “Today, it’s become almost impossible to avoid; but there is hope with cancer research, thanks to organizations like Stand Up To Cancer.”

SU2C Co-Founder Sue Schwartz, SU2C President and CEO Julian Adams, Ph.D., and SU2C Health Equity Committee Member Elizabeth Jaffee, M.D., will also participate to speak to the importance of early detection, exciting scientific breakthroughs, and the ongoing work yet to be done to make screenings and treatment equitable for all.

“This year, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with cancer, presenting an opportunity for the public to stand with us and rise to the occasion,” said Adams. “We’re thankful to Alan Locher, Michael Fairman and our friends from the daytime television community, who will raise critical funding to honor those we’ve lost – and to propel new scientific breakthroughs for current and future patients. Everyone has a story, and we’re grateful to all of you for sharing yours.”

For over 15 years, SU2C has leveraged its relationship with the entertainment community – which includes more than 1,100 celebrity ambassadors – to generate public donations, increase awareness and fund cutting-edge cancer research. SU2C research has contributed to the development of more than 10 scientific breakthroughs that have significantly impacted the field and provided new treatment options for breast, colorectal, lung, melanoma, pancreatic, pediatric and prostate cancers.
