General Hospital
ABC Official Press Release: GH Shifts Its TimeSlot Beginning September 10th!

Courtesy/ABC
Since the news broke months ago that Katie Couric’s new talk show, Katie had been picked up by 95% of the ABC affiliates around the country, and that would cause a shift in the time slot for General Hospital, fans were at times confused as to what it meant for their favorite ABC soap. Now today, ABC officially confirms the news that GH will move into One Life to Live’s old time slot beginning September 10th! Here is what the official release stated below:
“There’s never been a better time to “check-in” to ABC’s General Hospital and beginning Monday, September 10, the popular daytime drama moves to its new time period of 2:00 p.m. ET /1:00 p.m. PT/CT, on the ABC Television Network. Fans can now catch all the intrigue and excitement of Port Charles one hour earlier.
General Hospital, the most honored show of the 2012 Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards, celebrates its golden anniversary on April 1, 2013. Approaching 50 historic years on ABC, General Hospital is the longest running American soap opera currently in production and the third longest-running drama in American television history. General Hospital was created by Frank and Doris Hursley. Frank Valentini is the executive producer. Ron Carlivati is the head writer.
So what do you think of the time shift? Let us know!
This is good news, This is the first time abc has said anything positive about general hospital and moving it to 2 o’clock is the best news ever. we still have to bring the ratings up on our soap but At least now we know general hospital isn’t going anywhere in September. I am a very happy soap fan right now. and tickled pink I can continue to watch general hospital.
I really happy HLN had the daytime emmy’s on their channel..Hopefully it will be better next time.. They will have plenty of time to prepare for it comes on nt. time…. Okay Barbara t,.(loves OLTL #1) …What do you think????????
The time change is fine with me……………The soap fans are the best & most loyal to their soaps…………………………Soap fans support their soaps 100%…………..Gh will LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks to the soap fans……….
That’s what I think to susan m, the only reason the emmys were blah and I believe boring was because they didn’t have enough time to put it together, they have a whole year to get it together now and hopefully next year Ericka Kane will not be invited and she will stay home. I am so mad at her, She cheated us out of hearing from our Ericka Slezak and it’s the first time in months we have seen or heard from her, while Susan Lucci has been all over the place making herself be known and making comments that the soap fans aren’t there anymore.
My hairdresser told me a story today about Susan Lucci….,I forget what exact location it was but anyway Ms. Lucci was in this resturant and people recognized her and wanted her autograph..Ms. Lucci was annoyed by this and told thw waiter she didn’t want to be bothered by them. This was a while back when this happened…..Makes you think…She should be glad for the attention don’t you think!!!!!!! My friend said she wasn’t on the friendly side. She should get annoyed when fans don’t want to bother getting her autograph or nothing….I didn’t think she was like that…..What do you think about this (barbara t, Loves OLTL #1) I was really surprised….
Barbara t, (Loves OLTL #1) I read about this also on T.V.line.com This happened on June 26 2012…………………………..You click on t.v. News , Previews,Spoilers, casting,Scoop Interviews..That were I saw it also….ABC took to twitter Tues. morning to announce & you know the rest….It’s official now GH will be on Sept 10, at 2:00pm….HURRAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No doubts about that anymore…It is FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I Isn’t It ………………………..
More OLTL CROSS OVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Isn’t this good news, but I also agree with heather that we still have to boycott good morning america to let abc know we mean business, and that kate is nothing without general hospital. Read her post below.
It is not going anywhere in September 2012. But it can still go off the air in January 2013 or September 2013. That’s why it’s imperative that we boycott Good Afternoon America. Katie is nothing without GH and I hope that ABC realize it.
BTW, I love your new name barbara t, or should I say barbara t. Loves one life to live # 1.
Thanks Heather, now every one will know how much I love One life to live. Your right we still have to boycott good afternoon america and let abc know none of their trashy talk, food or news shows will be accepted in that 2 o’clock hour, It belongs to one life to live and only general hospital is allowed to be there.
SOAP FANS DON”T WATCH KATIE COURIC THIS SEPT. 10 at 3:00pm…. Boycott the show like we did The Revolution & she will be cancelled for low ratings !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We don’t want Katie on daytime programming………………..We want DRAMA(our stories)……………..I know I will never watch Katie Couric or Good Afternoon America …..Don’t ever watch these shows. We don’t want to boost their ratings in the least……………. Why is that crappy cooking show still on (The Chew).. Don’t watch this so they will be canceled too…There is strength in numbers & we will succed…By BOYCOTING all these shows I menced…….
Yes the soap fans are stll there & still want to watch their stories. That will never change….We call this ENTERTAINMENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No boring news shows, cooking shows & info shows…The rating for Hell’s Kitchen Is 22..Way bottom of the totem poll..In fact the lowest you can get…..I saw this on line……See we don’t like cooking shows……….We just want OUR SOAPS & nothing else…….
There is a 24/7 cooking network that’s where that garbage belongs. I hate those cooking shows to.
A lot more good stuff will be happening on GH..Saw tht ABC soap Digest at the supermarket today (SUN)………………..Happy for Kate..Starr did the right thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GH is sizzling……..Did you see Fri. on GH ..On the screen it Outstanding Drama Series…I wonder what acc/disney thinks about that one……………..
I am excited that Abc is keeping #Gh in its Daytime Schedule..
They say change is good and in this case it is true.
We not only get a new timeslot but our fav #Oltl characters are on #Gh too.
Thank U Abc
It’s a shame after so many years GH had the time slot for 3pm that they stoop so low to put Katie in it’s place. It won’t make a different to me because I have no intention on watching her show. My tv and DVR will be on 2pm only every day. The rest of the morning and daytime shows can fail. If only GH could go on some other channel besides ABC. Perhaps HLN could pick them up.
I think the two o’clock timeslot belongs to #OLT L. KATIE SHOULD TAKE THE OPRAH TIMESLOT AT 4PM AND THEY SHOULD BRING BACK OLTL AND AMC INTHEIR ORIGINAL SLOT . I AM GLAD THAT GH is still on the air. But the best is OLTL. it should have never been canceled.
That’s not the way it goes because at 4 o’clock right after general hospital goes off here where I am ellen comes on and they are not getting rid of her, God how many talk shows do they need? There’s not one that I watch and I never will, not my Idea of entertainment, anyway abc wants katie on all there stations all over the place so general hospital gets moved. the boycott for abc/disney continues for me until my favorite soap comes back and that is One life to live.
I want OLTL back also!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Daytime programming isn’t the same without OLTL……………………………………………
thank you sweetie…..
love this,and so agree..
My cable station has Dr. OZ in Oprah’s old time slot…..
OLTL should have NEVER BEEN CANCELED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OLTL was my FAVORITE SOAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
agreed!!! I still miss OLTL afte all these months.. we don’t even have soapnet anymore for the reruns of OLTL… sad…
Judi check your guide because SoapNet runs the old OLTL at 6 AM 7AM & 8 AM each morning now. They had been running them in the middle of the night. GH runs at 4 AM & 5 AM. AMC at 1 AM 2 AM & 3 AM. The last couple of months they have swapped the order & you need to really keep an eye on your guide because it seems they swap time frames around the beginning of each month. OLTL just wrapped the Marcie/Tommy storyline & Jared is about to come clean about not being Asa’s son. Everyone should be watching. On GH, the Text Message Killer just killed Georgie on Monday. Wonderful Kirsten & Megan are so refreshing to see in the Maxie & Kate roles.
Sorry to hear that Judi…I still have the soap net channel on the t.v. I have watched repeats of OLTL….. My cable still carrys it thank goodness..I’m in FL….It still isn’t the same..I would like to see new episodes…..I guess something is better than nothing…Why don’t you try another cable provider maybe they will have the soapnet channel….Maybe Direct t.v. or another cable company………..Good luck………
I agree with you. My local affilate owns both ABC & NBC & tell me that Katie is an ABC sydicate show (like Regis & Kelly – now just Kelly) & they can run it on any network they want. Katie will be airing in my market at 3 PM on NBC & then the next morning it will repeat at 10 AM on ABC. My 3PM ABC timeslot is going to air Wendy Williams. ABC wants a strong lead in for Katie – but some markets won’t even be showing it after GH. Only the ABC owned affiliates will run it at 3 PM for sure. I will never watch it, no matter what network picks it up.
It’s going to be strange with GH not being at 2 pm Central time anymore and being on in the OLTL times lot makes it even stranger. I am still Not over my OLTL being off the air!
I think the ABC network gave Katie Couric waaaaay too much power to have certain timeslot that GH has had for many many years! I do NOT plan on watching Katie Couric’s show nor will I watch the new good afternoon show!
It will be strange, but it’s better then loosing general hospital to. Abc didn’t give Katie the power to do as she chooses abc hired her to have another crappy talk show and they were planing on it being on at 3, that has nothing to do with her that’s abc decision, I have no plains on watching any of the new talk shows, Katie couric makes me sick, I am just happy that general hospital has one more life to live and will bring more of my favorite characters from landview to Port charles.
We have talk shows coming out of the wazoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Too many talk shows …….Don’ want to be talked to death by K. Couric or any other show like this especially on daytime programming !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
so true….never over OLTL……
I’m not over OLTL either…………………….
totally agree well said
well, obviously we still miss the canceled shows, but I’m happy to have General Hospital on, no matter what time slot it is during the day.
That’s how I feel to.
I won’t be watching ANYTHING in the time slot OLTL occupied. Their ratings were better than the other two soaps, yet they were cancelled. ABC just made my afternoon tv viewing much easier. I may be looking at NBC or CBS.
Jane that makes no sense, I love One life to live and general hospital would be the only show to move into the 2 o’clock spot that the fans will accept. we also have a few One life to live characters that are now in port charles and there are more to come, why stop watching we want to save the soaps not help kill them.
I totally agree. I will now be watching Days of Our Lives since it’s in that time slot.
Yes the ratings for OLTL were better for the last 6 months of their 43 years on the air. For the other 42 1/2 GH’s were higher. Yes, GH had downfalls creatively during that time, but in retrospect GH was always been more profitable for ABC and perhaps why they were given a reprieve. I am sorry for the OLTL fans and do agree that AMC and OLTL should have stayed all along.
I know how you feel Jane. I am only watching GH because of McBain, Todd and Star.. I think OLTL was the best soap ever! even the beginning music on GH they don’t even show Todd or Star or McBain .. very lame. I wrote so many letters, tweeted, fb, etc to ABC ceo’s and so did so many broken hearted fans of OLTL. I really miss the actors from that show. I still live in hope someone will be smart enough to pick up OLTL and the actors because it would be high ratings.. I know how you feel..
Putting GH in my OLTL time slot will not make me start to watch this soap, in fact, if makes me NOT want to watch at all, but then I don’t any way so I guess that’s a moot point. And even though Frank and Ron have brought on some OLTL characters, doesn’t make me want to watch either.
Will be on same time as Days in my area which I don’t think Is good for either of them. I started watching Days & the CBS soaps when OLTL & AMC were cancelled to support other soaps and try to keep them on. Now I will have to record or watch Days or watch on Soapnet as long as it is on. I am grateful GH is still on I don’t like change as it will make harder to watch Days. I still miss OLTL & AMC & don’t want to lose anymore soaps
We need to stand behind the one of the few last remaining soaps. I too was a fan of OLTL for the last 40 years. It’s gone. Get over it. Frank and Ron are doing a great job with GH and I am truly enjoying the OLTL actors in Port Charles. You’re missing out on good soap opera by not tuning in to GH.
Judy… so tired of people telling the fans of OLTL to “get over it” even Frank V states there may be a chance it may come back…
perhaps if you added your voice to wanting it back, it may help, but telling it’s legion of fans (which you claim to be) to “get over it” certainly does not help.
I’m with you Brian. There will be interesting happenings on general hospital, were going to landview and I can’t wait, I wonder if they are all the original sets from one life to live. I to am tired of hearing people say “get over it” I never will, there’s always hope. And I think that Todd is fitting in perfectly, I’m glad he hired Sam.
I want OLTL back ASAP… When did Frank V. say taht there is a chance OLTL will come back???????? Don’t want to get my hopes up till it’s official..Yes, I WANT OLTL BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to RETURN TO Llanview………And Rodi’s bar & grill…And to the hotel Roxy own’s…And her beauty salon..And don’t forget Landfair!!!!!!
susan m.
just look for frank’s picture in the list of stories in the news section of this website. even the headlines states that OLTL might be back
I am just happy General Hospital is still on air!! I’m actually excited about the time change because that’s my lunch hour! Though I do think the network should’ve left GH where they are at, but I can at least watch it now “live.”
So GH will be competing against Days? This may not be good news for either GH or Days because it will split the soap viewing audience, lowering ratings for each soap, and thus justifying cancellation of both for less expensive programming.
I guess it all depends on the market. In the NY market where I live, Days is on at 1pm, so it won’t affect GH at all. There has been soaps on at the same time on competing networks for years, and it was never a problem. So I don’t think it will be in this case, either.
david, Where I am days comes on at one, I wish all the last 4 soaps weren’t competing against each other and they were on at all different times. It would be nice for me because I don’t have one of them ff machines, One of these days I have to give in and get one I am so sick of falling asleep right before jay leno tells his first joke.
Support GH by watching IT and IT only.
Let KATIE and GAA go down in flames. If the ratings for the latter are better they COULD be the replacement for GH NEXT year after ABC makes the 50-year anniversary.
ABC is hoping to kill GH at 2 PM by splitting the Days & GH viewers. I say DVR both! I will never watch Katie or GAA & believe true loyal soap fans won’t either. I only watch GH on ABC & boycott all their other programs – daytime & primetime I say NO to ABC! Disgruntled GH fans not happy with OLTL transplants should wake up & see the writing on the wall. I loved all the ABC soaps & am happy with OLTL faces now on GH. GH & OLTL should both be on the air because their writing teams have always done a fantastic job. ABC went after AMC with a vengence during the Pratt years. If all of that could be washed away in the shower, ala Bobby Ewing, Frank & Ron could take over & bring it back to it’s glory years too!
It won’t make any difference to me…. on my days off I’ll watch it at 2pm,and the days that I work I’ll watch it on a time shift channel (as I live in Canada) or I’ll watch it on my laptop.
Sooo…………… !!
I will always watch GH but that will be one of my three ABC shows for me. The Doctors, GH and Dr. Oz no other daytime show will get my time again. If these three go I will never be an ABC watcher again, Thank God for Hallmark, HGTV, TV Land and myTV. Good luck to all GH personnel and fans.
I am glad we still have GH. However I will never watch Hatie no matter what time she is on. Only GH on ABC for me. At 3p I will switch to Dr, Phil on CBS or Studio B with Shepard Smith on Fox News Channel.
I see no problem with it at all. At least fans still have their favorite soap. That’s what counts. Unfortunate others lost theirs though. Still missing AMC!
Tune in/DVR SoapNet at 1 AM 2 AM & 3 AM each night to see old AMC episodes.
I have a full time 9-5 job so it doesn’t matter to me when it’s on, my DVR will record it and I will watch it at my own leisure. How can ratings take into account people who DVR GH? Everyone that I know that watches GH has a full-time job. I haven’t watched it in the 3pm timeslot since I was in university. Anyway, good news is that it’s on the air and as long as it is, I will keep watching. OLTL isn’t coming back, folks. I never watched that show, but I will say I’ve tremendously enjoyed Todd Manning in PC. Not a huge fan of Blair; we already have Carly Jacks…. Ok, you can start hurling insults at me now… 🙂
A note to ABC: The only program I watch on ABC is GH. All of my other TV is on HBO, Showtime, or AMC. I give less than a sh-t about any other show on ABC.
If you like Todd, then tune in to SoapNet at 6 AM 7 AM & 8 AM, keep checking guide as they tend to change timeslots. You will see Todd in the form of Trevor St John. He took over the role from Roger Howarth, who is once again in the role at GH. You will find that Trevor as Todd fit the role perfectly. You will enjoy seeing all the old OLTL episodes that will fill in any blanks about the OLTL characters now on GH.
Will be watching at 2, just as I did at 3. Hoping GH can pick up the momentum and stay on the schedule. Will not be watching Katie.
ABC is betting the GH viewers will stay tuned to Katie. I am betting that they won’t. Time will tell.
You won’t catch me watching that self absorbed woman. We don’t need any more talk shows, for me I hope Katie courics dopy show sinks in the ratings, Will be interesting to see what will happen because no one liked her on the cbs news she trashed there evening news and it still hasn’t recovered.
I saw in advertizing that Good Afternoon America was going on? must be GH slot time? I will have to watch and see… I am happy for GH.. I miss McBain being on the show lately. ABC board for GH is lit up wondering the same thing.. I am such a die hard OLTL fan, very hard still to get over it as I should by now, but I still miss the show and the characters. I find myself switching channels at that time… but glad the CEO’s of ABC are smart enough this time to keep GH at least!! .. for now anyway… thanks Michael for bringing us the news. I happen to see your tweet about it…
Change is always confusing. I hope that if there’s a dip in the ratings, people don’t start getting all excited and taking it to mean GH should go the way of one of Sonny’s enemies. Ratings could dip because some people won’t be able to watch at 2:00. But on the other hand, maybe MORE people can watch at 2:00 than 3:00 and this could be a blessing in disguise. Didn’t OLTL have better ratings than GH? IF so, could part of it be due to the timeslot? People have often said the YR gets good ratings, in part, because it’s on over lunch for most areas. I am glad ABC is putting a positive spin on this move and hope the ratings do go up. GH is so good right now!
I’m happy for GH but am bothered by the fact that ABC is putting it in the OLTL’s old time slot. Are they just trying to ruin all memories of that show. I agree with another poster. Put Katie in Oprah’s slot and leave GH where it is.
At 4 o’clock where I am they can’t put kate on because ellen is on at that time and they aren’t getting rid of ellen, oprah was never on for me after general hospital she was on another network, so the 4 o’clock hour isn’t the same for everyone that’s why katie is going on at 3. One life to live is my favorite soap, but what would you rather see take over one life to lives hour? A news, food, talk show ? I don’t, I would much rather watch general hospital at 2 then not see it at all. Let me say this, I hate all those talk, food and news shows I don’t watch any of them, daytime for me is for the soaps not that cheep garbage with all these hosts and guests with big egos.
Agreed 100%. Too many talk shows and we all get enough food without watching people eat it on t.v. Still wish that AMC and OLTL was on but GH has picked a few of the OLTL characters and I hear a rumor that Blair and a few of the others are also joining GH.
Hello everyone…..they can change the time to 2:00 a.m. or 2:00 p.m…….it makes no difference to me….I am going to watch whenever it is on. I have been watching for so long all the ABC soaps, like AMC and OLTL but since they are gone….I remain faithful to GH. The powers that be just better not mess with it and take it away….there are enough, too many infact, of those talk shows. I thought once Oprah was gone, they would leave it alone….but no, Katie has to have her say now….they are all the same.
Have a great day as I sit here and watch GH. (My laptop is always beside me….hehe)
I so agree with BarbaraT about Susan Lucci. She is too much about herself. Erica Slezak is a much better actor and a much more classy woman. Maybe MS KANE feels a bit intimidated and jealous in her company.
I agree with you about Susan Lucci. Erika Slezak can act circles around her. I’ve read all the responses and I still plan to not watch anything in OLTL’s timeslot. OLTL was always treated as ABC’s redheaded stepchild among the three soaps. GH was on its way down and OL was on its way up when they were canceled. The ONLY show I will watch at 1:00 central on ABC is OLTL. Sorry if some of you don’t like that but I don’t think I’m the only one who feels that way. OL was treated horribly at the Emmys (tribute????) and Erika was barely allowed to speak. So my loyalty is and always will be to OLTL and ERIKA SLEZAK.
It’s so true about Erika Slezak- she is by far the most talented actress on daytime television with utmost class and sophistication. There is no one on any other how that could replace her or try to be like her character of Viki. She gave life to Viki on screen. I’ll never watch any show that is in the time slot for OLTL – it earned that spot after 40+ years. Besides my personal feeling, ratings for OLTL were high and fans miss the show. No one wants to see another talk show. As far as the Emmys- the highlight was seeing Erika Slezak- hopefully next year she will get the spotlight she deserves without being overshadowed by anyone else – and a 7th Emmy for those last episodes wouldn’t hurt either!!!!
It dont matter to me as i dvr the show just as long as its still on the air.
Saw advertisement for Good Afternoon America. It suppose to come on Mon. July 9…What timeslot does this show fit in?????????????? Can anyone answer this??? Can anyone answer my question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone know for SURE…..
Me again, Yes it will be on at 2 o’clock, its taking over our one life to live hour for 9 weeks, I believe its 9 weeks on september 10 general hospital will go there.
Thanks for the info.. I was in panic mode..I am calm now…I was worried ..I enjoy the drama….AGAIN thanks for the info……OLTL FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hybrid does mean putting them together. I will take a wild guess here its a car? a hybrid that you can use gas and some other kind of energy thing (electric), they have a place in our village where you can use there plug (HOW STUPID) I never see any one use it EVER.anyway this can be a good thing, no not the car, our soap opera.
I want to let everyone know about the fall schedule regarding general hospital in the area where I live which is Western New York. I just learned today from the advertisements that were on while I was watching GH that starting Sept.10 GH will be on at 2:00. Then at 3:00 we are going to have the Rikki Lake Show. Katie Couric’s new show will come on at 4:00. So, at least in my area GH will not be the lead-in for Katie’s new show. Just what we need two talk shows. Needless to say, I won,t be watching anything after GH anyway. My television is only tuned in to ABC for GH only. So what I’d like to know is what happened regarding Katie letting everyone know that she wanted GH to go on before her show? Apparently the demographics in my area must not be that important. At any rate, the only ratings they will be getting from me will be for GH. I am hoping like so many other soap fans that any and all replacement shows ABC tries to put in will tank. We want our OLTL back!!!!! ABC when will you face reality and listen to the soap fans. I would like to hear from other fans as to whether or not Katie’s new show will follow GH in other areas. This should be very interesting to see.
I love gh the time change don’t matter to me I will watch it any time.
the Daytime Emmy’s look rather discounted, second rate but I guess it was on tv at least. As much as I like Erika Sleazak and I know Barbara t loes OLTL (that’s clear lol) she just doesn’t have the overall it factor other than her truly devoted fans though she is a great and quality actress. Sadly when Susan Lucci won the Emmy the daytime interest wasn’t the same and now no one really wants the Daytime Emmy’s on tv and while HLN did a nice job stepping in it and there was little time it didn’t have the pop. And less than am million viewers. yikes.
People are entitled to their opinions, I have heard horrible stories about Eric Braeden and his conduct on and off the set. I am surprised to hear such negative things about Susan Lucci – even the personal accounts of Lucci is that she is very gracious and thankful. And people you are making a mountain out of a moleholl I looked into the issue of the “daytime fans aren’t there anymore” and she is referring to what she was told by Frons and ABC. However she and Slezak both have been vocal that good stories and characters will always have an audience. Sadly AMC which sorry to say to OLTL lovers has the better brand name regardless of ratings at the end (on average AMC was still far higher than OLTL over the years) seemed to be neglected on the writing area for the last few years. it was like ABC didn’t care giving “crap” to the actors to work with instead of strong heartfelt multidimensional stories. They could have had fewer characters and with some creative marketing been much more for ABC.
Happy ABC finally made the announcement and even managed to say something positive about GH! I would be happy with more OLTL crossovers if it works story-wise, not just for the sake of garnering OLTL fans (personally my all-time favorite soap). I WILL NEVER WATCH ANY OTHER ABC SHOW, only GH. Unless they bring back OLTL of course LOL!
Unfortunately GH will now compete with DOOL in my market. That’s not good for either show or their fans.
This will be good something to fill the void that One Life to Live left in my day when it got canceled. I’ve been kinda hard on GH but i wish it well now i hope they can pioneer some firsts for daytime and with the new EP i think they are more than well on their way to entertain us and address compelling real life issues..
I really think adding in more OLTL now that GH is moving to its old timeslot makes a lot of sense. I know it will really PO some of the GHr’s, but it just might save the show in the long run. I’m all for a blending of GH/OLTL! Two great, iconic shows I’d love to see live on. Been a fan my whole life and would love to say that ’til the day they pry my TV remote from my cold, dead hands!
Oh, if they could some how bring on Michael E. Knight, Tad from AMC, so much the better. But not too many AMC’rs. The “chosen few” really hogged up air time! (Cameron Mathison, Susan Lucci, etc.) I liked the character Liza Colby and the awesome Vincent Irazzary (sp?). It doesn’t even have to be contract roles IMO. Bring them on “as needed”. I know that is difficult to do if they have other commitments, but times have changes and obviously the genre needs to change with the times, as does the talent’s expectations of the business model.
I would love at least OLTL cameos by Melissa Archer, Bree Williamson, Erica Slezak…my OLTL list is pretty much the entire cast I guess. Blair, Shawn, Dorian, Bo, Clint, Victor, that adorable little Liam…and on and on.
You know ABC…you really do NEED at least ONE flagship soap to keep your viewers from changing the channel or falling asleep from your non-stop talk fest. As a lifelong ABC Daytime fan, I have completely checked out of ABC with the exception of GH. And I am still in your precious 18-49 Demo. I basically make ALL the purchasing decisions for my household, so keep that in mind!
I THINK YOU SHOULD LEAVE GH ALONE. tHE TIME SLOT IS GOOD THE WAY IT IS.
WE SCHEDULE OUR WORK AROUND THE PROGRAM. DON’T TRY AND FIX WHAT ISN’T BROKE.
They already fixed it, the rat channel doesn’t care what we feel, at 3 pm starting September 10th boring Katie Couric will take over where our General hospital has been for almost 50 years. They sure have messed up our daytime programing and I hope all their new shows fail miserably.
I think its a good move because of all of the daytime talk shows in 3pm time slot Gh might not be able to compete at that time.
GH is popular with high school teens and college students and this new time slot will likely hurt the GH ratings and won’t do a thing for Katie Curic as she is probably not teens cup of tea. It makes one wonder how much thought goes into the decisions that the networks make. I’m glad they aren’t rocket scientists.
Please bring back One Life To Live. Hated the Revolution, hate The Chew and not fond of Good Afternoon America, I watch that in the morning!!
I have not watched soaps in a few years but I was deeply disappointed when they canceled All my children And One life to live. I have now become a devoted GH fan! I have watched the big 3 ABC soaps off and on for 20 plus years and will never take GH for granted again! Feels great to be back watching at least one soap again
I want to keep Gh on soapnet. 1-5-13
Their already have to many childern program’s. The childern do not need
another childern program. We want Gh on soapnet please. I wish that
they could put all my childern on soapnet to. Alot of people do not want
to loose soapnet at all. Please put the childern show on a driffent
tv station like nbc. Don’t take away Abc soap’s that not fair. Yall
are not taking day’s off the air. They still get to watch their soap’s.
Please leave soapnet alone. Please put all my childern back on
soapnet. I love Gh. Please find another tv station like nbc.
That would help out alot. or find a new tv station for the childern

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
