After Y&R Fan Outcry On Muhney's Dismissal, Doug Davidson States: "JFP Is Not To Blame … There Is More To The Story!"

Daytime Emmy winner, and one of the most solid cast members of The Young and the Restless for over 35 years, Doug Davidson (Paul Williams), took to his Twitter account late last evening, after the events of the day surrounding the firing of Michael Muhney as Adam Newman at the CBS soap opera.
After massive fan outcry at this latest move by the number one soap, and with people pointing the finger at executive producer, Jill Farren Phelps for the decision to axe Muhney, Davidson came to the defense of the show’s current leader and indicated there is more going on that meet’s the eye.
And in addition, Doug attempted to tell his followers that being on a soap opera and in a large cast is a “team sport”. Over the years, Davidson has seen many a popular actor come and go, but perhaps none this popular with the fans?

Davidson tweeted: “Honestly, JPF’s is not to blame. She is terrific. Today’s events don’t reflect her leadership. Trust me, there is more to the story. The Young and the Restless is a team sport. Please know we love you guys and we will continue to bring you the best show we can. I’ve got at least 20 castmates that vow the same pledge.”

He almost seems to be implying that Michael is not a team player which I don’t feel is true. When Eric Roberts guess starred on Y&R he said that Michael was the nicest and most gracious cast member and went out of his way to make him feel welcome.
I think Doug Davidson is kissing up in order to save his own job.

I agree that Doug, Melody and Erik should not have said anything. One thing that speaks volumes to me is the fact that Michael said he was stunned and couldn’t speak for 5 minutes. This says to me that he did not do anything worthy of being fired for; otherwise he would have been prepared or expected it. I love Doug Davidson, but I really wish he had just not commented at all. I get he has to not bite the hand that feeds him, but this would have been a good time to recognize that silence is sometimes golden.

Michael said he sad to see a writer go recently. I don’t remember the writers name but many wanted him gone including many actors. Guess what my mom said is true you know when you’re on the way out when your coworkers start avoiding you. Why? Because the don’t want to be next. Doug you know you’re not next but you could have been nicer and not kick a man when he’s down. What you said makes everyone think it Michael deserved it.
Others Involved, your mother was right. And I had forgotten that MM had spoken out in behalf of that writer Jill had fired. Now there are some really insidious rumors popping up which is not a surprise considering corporate damage control can be an ugly thing, But we all have to hold on until the truth comes out because so far, we do not have it. I do not take smear campaigns coming from some anonymous source posting on a soap rag to be credible, however, they can incur a lot of damage.

Exactly. Would anyone be surprised that EB had him or anyone else fired or pushed out? He must be jealous that he is not the “star” anymore. Everyone said that Michael was going to be the center of the show. That Adam was going to be the next Victor. I cannot stand any scene that EB is in and I immediately forward through it. Now, I won’t have to because I won’t be watching anyway.

Maybe he wouldn’t want to go back. It sounds as if it was a stressful situation, although MM seems like a very strong man and was dealing with it. As far as anything he said on Twitter, that was his own account and should’ve had nothing to do with him keeping or losing his job. Please rethink letting Michael M leaving. Y&R is number one but I see it falling, people are getting upset with new actors/actress.
Michael was a very important part of the cast. The fans had great respect and love for his character (him). The ‘revolving door’ policy at Y&R is beyond the point of being annoying. It’s like trying to read a novel with random chapters missing’, not worth the trouble of trying to follow it. I guess after all these years, it’s time to change the channel.
Of course there’s more to this story. If that’s the case let’s hear from Michael and then let’s hear from Phelps why she let him go. I wanna hear it. Then it will be up to the fans who to believe. Sing it sister! I only tune in to Y&R these days to watch the brilliance that is Michael. because the show has been such a dreadfully, redundant bore as of late. The writers even managed to make Billy Abbott a drag. The only reason the character of Adam still exists is due to Michael’s ability to rise above the swill he has been handed and breathe life, complexity and nuance into the characterization of Adam.
He got fired because he pissed off Eric Braeden, someone who has been on the show long enough to make his voice heard to the higher-ups when he’s not pleased with another actor. He may not be the only one that had problems with Michael, but there’s documented proof online that they were in some tiff recently.

Maybe I’m the only one. I liked Chris Engen in the role, felt bad when he was replaced, took a while to get used to this Adam, but honestly, he’s one note, I don’t get excited about his on screen presence any more. I’m looking forward to a different Phyllis and different Adam in 2014. You roll with the flow. I agree with you Joe. I just felt the character took too much of an evil turn after Muhney took over, and Adam became in my mind un-redeemable. BUT, it appears that is the type of “bad boy/man” character a large part of the fan base likes (Victor Newman, EJ on DAYS) I like a character who can actually at times have a heart and have it not seem completely out of character. As for the comments by Doug Davidson, I am thinking that it is all about cutting budget and a big name actor had to go.
Braeden isn’t a team player. He is an ass and a bully, just like Victor. Years ago he punched Peter Bergman in the face. Not Jack, but Peter, the actor. EB is also why I stopped watching Y&R several years ago. It was the 2nd time that had happened. I won’t make the mistake of ever watching again.

I think he’s only saying what she has probably asked the cast to do, and that is to protect her. She is well aware that MM is extremely popular with the fans just as his character is, and she’d like protection against the considerable amount of backlash she’s about to receive. And, whenever he’s filming scenes on the Y&R set, MM talks to and communicates with that arrogant and pompous SB only whenever MM himself has to. I’m one of those GH fans that watched her try and run it into the ground ! She is now doing the same thing to Y&R ….using the same old story lines that didn’t work when she tried them at GH. She needs to go before there is no way to turn things around for Y&R.
Have had a difficult time trying to watch this unwatchable Young and the Restless since the last change in EP….it should be called “Doom and Gloom”. As for Michael Muhney’s firing…..I, too, will just call it quits after nearly 30 years of faithful watching. There’s been a lot of displeasure since JFP joined Y&R. Fans have complained and complained about casting decisions, story lines that were completely bizarre and continued for so long, it was boring in so many ways, new actors seemed to be arriving in droves, many new actors not doing a good job were replaced this year. I am at the point where i honestly don’t care about 1/2 the cast because it’s new, not that great actors with lame story lines. Doug doesn’t strike me as a butt kisser but for him to say something like this makes me wonder what really happened. It seems vindictive on the shows’ part and very abrupt so that lends creedencea to Doug saying there is more to the story.

You forgot the new Abby. That was an awful casting choice. Every single time she comes on I’m like who is that chick until someone says Abby. JFP also chased off Emmy Rylan who was awesome as Abby so she could bring in one of her pet bimbos.
Emme came to GH to play Lulu (thank you God). So she wasn’t actually chased off. Still that leaves plenty of other complaints re JFP.

Doug’s character doesn’t even have scenes with Adam so I think there is something to his comments. There is not really any potential axe to grind on his part other than his knowing what did go down and realising that the fans have no clue! He has said what he has for a reason and he’s been with the show for many, many years. It’s true, we don’t know everything that is involved. But we know there was clearly some tension between Muhney & the “click” on twitter back when the Delia story first happened. Christian & Greg were praising everyone involved in the story line except Michael… on twitter. And Michael made some vague comments about it and not being recognized by his cast mates. Those guys never came back and acknowledged him, and although he apologized for venting on twitter, he took one of his twitter breaks. Exactly and I stopped liking the characters of Michael (who was my favorite) and Gregg. They were obvious then about their feelings, and frankly I felt they were bothered that the last few years has been more about michaels character. Whatever Doug!!!! I am sorry, but Michael Muhney is the ONLY Adam Newman for me. Too many fabulous actors are leaving, but to fire him is inexcusable. Michael has 3 young children at home. THAT is his focus. He doesn’t party with the cast in his spare time, he goes home to his wife and chldren.

I think he is covering for the bully, Eric Braden, who needs to be fired. He is a bully on and off the screen. Bring back michael Muhney, who does a great job. I know lots of fans that are upset on his dismissal and are going to quit the soap unless you can get rid of the real problem!
oh I agree with you Pat, Eric Braden has been on the show far too long now and his character has become very boring. Time to let the old bull out to pasture and forget to bring him back in the barn. He seems to believe he is the character he plays but bullies are not popular these days

I would be EB has it in his contract that Victor always has to win. Why else would we be fed the same crap story year after year after year. MM got in huge trouble with EB last year when he said what we all felt. Oh, Victor died again, we are supposed to believe it again. He wasn’t attacking EB, he was commenting on the writing. I so totally agree with all the comments in this section. There are so VERY MANY people who do not like EB/VN. They are the same person anyway. Arrogant, self entitled, bullies. Why TPTB have it stuck in their heads that he is so popular I will never know.
This just makes me love Kristoff St. John more. He is actually tweeting what the rest of us are thinking…may lose his job for it, but he’ll have his integrity. Inclined to agree with KStJ since DD is probably still smarting from a) having MM as his Emmy competition and b) MM letting the press know he planned to vote for Jason Thompson who he felt was better than all the others (including Davidson) that year. Davidson might be a bit biased.
He took a big risk, but he must be pretty upset too.

I’ve been watching this show since day one. Ever since the new executive producer arrived, there are so many story lines that haven’t been resolved, so many actors suddenly leaving and now MM, I will watch only until Adam’s last appearance. Then I am done. Sad to say,,.no more Y&R.

I think MM is a great actor with a lot of range. Much better than a certain other actor on the show that came over with a lot of attention from a rival ABC show.

I’m convinced Eric Braeden was involved, who’s to say Doug didn’t contribute to his firing to. They are veteran with seniority, if a newer actor get out of line, they can probably complain enough to get them fired. Michael humor and outspoken nature clearly rubbed somebody the wrong way.
This is a very smart move , fire one of , if not your best and most popular actors. Great way to bring up ratings. Idiots.

I have always liked Doug Davidson…he comes across as a nice guy. But, if there IS more to the story he should have expanded his comments instead of being cryptic. He is a great actor and has the same passion and intensity as Christian Bale. There are so many GREAT actors unemployed now. I think of all of the actors/actresses on ATWT, GL, AW, OLTL and AMC that is unemployed/under-employed or have had to make career changes. Before all of the fans start screaming that they are going to stop watching the show, maybe they should stop and think how they would feel if Y&R is cancelled. I don’t think Doug would be in any way the kind of person to “cover” for JFP. Something bad obviously wnt down at TY&TR and Muhney is sadly leaving but thihink people, he could and likely will go onto the kind of rich, varied career in film or nighttime TV he deserves.

Tristen is coming back, but he will never fill the empty of Y&R nor give us good writing..

GH’s Nicholas Chavez and Tabyana Ali to ‘Sprina’ Shippers: “Thank You For Not Only Being Fans, But Turning into Family”
The hottest young duo on daytime drama these days belongs to General Hospital. The couple known as ‘Sprina’ played by Nicholas Chavez (Spencer) and Tabyana Ali (Trina), is being given plenty of non-stop intrigue and drama and romance, much to the delight of their fans, who just can’t get enough of them.
In the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands everywhere Friday, Chavez and Ali weigh-in on all the latest developments and recent airshows including: the reading of Victor’s will, what to do about Esme and baby Ace, the action-adventure scenes in ‘Greenland’ and the Haunted Star, and most notably, that emotional leap from Trina into Spencer’s arms when he turned up alive!
Ali told SOD on her preparation for the moment: “I did a couple of jumps and held a baby, and that was about it!”

Chavez added, “That is my favorite ‘Sprina’ scene, Spencer is walking toward Trina and Trina breaks into a full sprint towards him, jumps into his arms and they kiss. I’ve always wanted to do a moment like that, you know what I mean?” Ali said, “I really loved that scene, too. It was just so fulfilling.”
When addressing what each of them would like to say to their lively and constant fan base, Tabyana expressed; “I would just say we love you, we appreciate you, thank you for all of your support and thank you for not only being fans, but turning into family.”
Nick added, “I co-sign all of that. Every single word.”

B&B Alum Pierson Fodé in Consideration to be the Next ‘Superman’
This seems like it would be a great casting choice to us! According to a report in Variety, actor and model Pierson Fodé , the former Thomas Forrester of The Bold and the Beautiful, is in serious consideration to play Superman in the upcoming film Superman: Legacy.
Apparently, James Gunn told the outlet’s Senior Culture & Events Editor, Marc Malkin that, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien. It’s gotta be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.”

Gunn added his take on just who will be the newest Clark Kent/ Superman,”We have some really great choices, which I’m excited about.” Back in March, James also revealed that he will be directing the upcoming film himself.
Sources revealed to Malkin that Fodé sent in a self-tape and that Gunn liked what he saw. Pierson played the role of B&B’s Thomas from 2015-2018 and was twice nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award during his run.
If Fodé was chosen for the Man of Steel, he would follow in the footsteps of another former daytime star, Sasha Calle (ex-Lola, Y&R) who is about to debut next week as Supergirl in the motion picture The Flash.
