OMG OMG OMG – i am sooooooooo happy – i absolutely adore michael e knight!!!
i am having heart palpitations right now…………………just hope tptb do him justice & write an awesome story for him…………i watched amc from the beginning to the end & i loved “tad the cad”………………

My sentiments exactly, elm31. He feels like family.

Hallelujah!!!! I can’t believe this. Bring it home, Michael.
I have missed him so much, Harry. YES!!!!

I tuned into AMC off and on for a look-see, and I do remember Tad..
But– I’d bet he will be nothing as Tad on Y&R but still the charisma is there ..

I saw this headline and I said OMG three times just like you! After Crazy Kelly got killed I sort of lost interest inY&R. I wish Vincent I. would join Y&R instead of Days. Ratings will go up for both soaps because Tad and David were loved by all AMC fans. Can’t wait to see M.K. again! Hooray! Hooray!

Me, too! I don’t know if I can stand the wait!

He was great as the unforgettable Tad Martin. It was rumored very strongly that he was to return as Tad to the atrocious on-line version of ALL MY CHILDREN if it ever returned under the usual shroud of mystery that was PROSPECT PARK.
I am glad for Michael Knight, he is a fine actor, and while I don’t follow The Young and the Restless I wish him well.

Screaming from the rafters, WOO HOO! And I am not even a woo hoo kind of person.
Or an all cap kind of person, and certainly not an exclamation point kind of person!
But I am a Michel Knight kind of person and Christmas came early for me it seems.
He’s been missed. I do hope the writing is up to par for him.
Y&R failed his fellow AMC alumni— the very talented Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams. Let us hope that they don’t do the same for the also incredibly talented Michael Knight.

You are so right. Y&R definitely failed Debbi Morgan and Darnell Williams and Genie Francis. Hopefully, the same mistakes won’t be made with Michael E. Knight with Charles Pratt, Jr. penning the story.

don’t forget what they did to cady mcclain’s character on y&r………………….

IKR? What a waste of 2 of the finest talents in the industry! SMH.

Don’t forget the wrong they did to the lovely and ta Cady McClain…. hope they get it right this time

hi Torqumada,
What was done to Cady on Y&R was done by the 2 fired writers Jean and Shelly that are now the new head writers of GH..
and what was done to Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams at Y&R was a sin..
Rons writing is going on until mid-oct, then they take over.

Su….no…you are wrong. What was DONE to the character of Kelly was done solely by Chuck Pratt. He turned her into a raving lunatic, not Jean and Shelly. Dont let a little thong like TRUTH or FACTS stanr in your way though. You never do.

hi Dylan..
It was Jean and Shelly who turned Kelly;

Cady McClain, who debuted in the role on April 16, 2014. On May 29, 2015, McClain made her final appearance as Kelly.

Pratt– January 16, 2015 – Present
Shelly Altman. Passanante’s tenure was from December 23, 2013 to March 18, 2015..

Cady’s April 16, 2014
final appearance on May 29, 2015

OK–
I was close lol
J&S wrote for Cady/Kelly until March 18 a month ahead they wrote for Kelly until April..
Kelly died in May..
Kelly was written by J&S and then Pratt had a month to kill her LOL

close real close .. as to witch writer killed Kelly..
( no need to bite me ..

Su000, Dylan is correct/ Jean and Shelly may have created the character of Kelly, but it was Pratt who killed her off after making her go bat shit crazy.
Cady and her character deserved better than that.

I did not like Cady MCclain as Dixie on AMC or as Rosanna on ATWT..JMO..Cynthia Watros WAS who the character of Kelly should have been all along but that fickle actress runs from soap to primetime to soap to primetime..she gains a little more critical acclaim on daytime and parlays it into primetime work..I ain’t mad her..but she was the vision of Kelly and abruptly left..This time around with Michael Knight at least he is originating a character and not replacing an actor in one..so whatever they write he will wholeheartedly bring it..that being said he will be mixed up with Ian and Victor and somebody’s pregnancy and be outright slimy and then redeemed into a character we love to see knowing he can be flawed…I am davlestev1 and I am a MEDIUM…lol..but i can wear a large..see what i did there?

I concur, David.
Do you happen to know what head writer was at the helm when Michael E Knight’s Tadd was given that horrid buried alive story? This was near the time Erica’s allegedly aborted fetus manifested his personage and reeked havoc on Erica’s life. The aforementioned is what broke my life long AMC habit.
Tadd was written so horrifically out of character.
Please don’t tell me it was Pratt.

Harry that would be Megan McTavish who had Bianca raped. .reversed Ericas abortion and killed off Dixie Cooney Martin

GREAT NEWS..LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING HIM AGAIN!

I love MIchael but I have to say he would have been great on GH as Elizabeth’s long lost dad Jeff Webber. Since he’s on recurring status maybe GH will wake up & see a story with Elizabeth, that’s an avenue that’s not be explored yet

Love your idea, Candy. I would like to see the Webber clan have a stronger presence in Port Charles.

GREAT idea!!!

Love this.

Not a big fan of Elizabeth. But now that they’ve made her a wee devious and less of a goody goody I’m actually enjoying her.

Candy, what about David Canary (Adam Chandler) coming to GH as a long lost Quartermaine? They need a new patriarch! And Erika Slezak could play his wife.
Those two would make perfect Quartermaines.

How about bringing back the REAL Quartermaines? Another dead promise from the failed and thankfully fired Ron Carlivati. I am SOOOO glad his infuence is gone from the show. Its like a breath of fresh air has been let into the show! The last scripts that Carlivati had a hand in aired in mid August, and the difference since then has been night and day! Glory Hallelujah!

Also, a comment from another site suggested that Michael Knight would have been a good “Tucker McCall” (Devon’s dad) on Y & R.

This seems like a good idea, too…alas, he is a new character on Y&R, and I wish him well!

I love Michael and very happy for him. I don’t watch Y&R but I’m sure he’ll do well

It’s embarrassingly crazy how happy this makes me. When AMC got cancelled, that was the biggest loss for me – seeing good Tad on my screen. MEK brought a real blend of humor and pathos to that role and I just hope that YR (which I watch sporadically) gives him something worthy. Awesome news!!!! But I bet I can predict what he’s mixed up in – if I see another baby switching plot (Sharon stealing Saige’s baby) or another gaslighting plot (Victor doing it to fill-in-the-blank), I’ll yawn. I’ll watch it, but I’ll yawn. lol.

Young and the Restless, like all shows, has been dreadful at stunt casting in the last several years. General rule…DO NOT CAST DAYTIME ROYALTY IN DAY PLAYER, THROWAWAY ROLES!!!!!! Michael Knight is a multiple Emmy winner, and they are signing him up in the part of an evil doctor and of course the role will go nowhere. I would never have thought this in a million years….but whoever said he would make a good Tucker hit the nail on the head. The character of Tucker was Ill-conceived at best and never really caught on despite heavy weight Stephen Nichols playing him. But Michael could bring a fun, devil may care attitude to the role, and him and Ashley could have a great time. Soap writers have to stop thinking about their short term sweep stunt plotting and think long term.

Yes..you are so right. The first person to really get into the
Actors personaloty and their roles and do they match up
And the fact that they are putting heavy hitter award winning
Actors in these little character roles. We got Tad for 31 years
We wont settle for Dr. Nevelle being on for only 6 months and
him moving away or being buried alive. LOL. We love Michael E
Knight. Let his character soar…he has secets to tell and the will be
something..long lost father of someone it son…maybe he’s a Newman or an
Abbot…someones grandfather….we shall see….

Didn’t watch AMC. I’ll reserve judgement until I see the show and his acting and the story.

I never watched AMC but knew of him. If AMC fans are happy, so am I. I’ve always said, cast former soap stars BEFORE any others if the part is right. Welcome Michael. PS: I would like him to be a long lost brother of Michael Baldwin and Kevin Fisher. I think those three guys in the same room would be magical!

They have enough long lost brothers and sisters running around out there.

Terrible Tom was a bad boy!

OMG. I’m so happy to have Michele (Tad) back on daytime soaps. He will do well on any soap show. People love & missed him so much. I hope it turns out to be a full time gig for him & his fans. Can’t wait. Yippee

I hope they give him a great story. I just loved him on AMC. One of my first soap crushes. I could see him mixing it up with Ashley.

Or maybe he could get together with Nikki when Victor finally goes to prison to pay for the laundry list of crimes for which he must pay!!! Oh, sorry I was dreaming….

Yahoo!!! Best. News. Ever. So happy to see he’ll be on the canvas, ANY canvas, any soap, again. I’d even watch DOOL if he was on there. (Didn’t mean any disrespect, I just never got into that show and it airs opposite GH here.)

So very happy to have him back on daytime. And I feel like the role of Dr. Simon Neville could be a great potential for him, as a longterm benefactor on The Young and the Restless. My only complaint is that he could’ve have acted opposite Cady McClain (ex-Kelly).

They never showed Kelly’s dead body so your wish could come true!

I would love it, as Cady had major potential as Kelly on Y&R. It’s just a shame that the character’s direction went the way that it naturally did.

Ideally they would pair him Eileen Davidson but I have a feeling he’ll be part of that Neil/Hillary mess of a story…

Wooo hoooo!

When I saw his picture and the post said he would be playing a doctor, even before I got to the “mysterious” part, all I could think of was the doctor that raped Eden on SANTA BARBARA. I sure hope Pratt and Phelps don’t repeat this plot.

I hope they don’t make MEK a villain. Even when he played a deeply flawed character who was up to no good, one couldn’t help but see that mischievous glint in his eyes and know that he was a basically a good person.
I recall when he played Tad the Cad and was having an affair with Liza and her mother Marian Colby. Mrs. Colby bought him jewelry and black leather pants–he was her boy toy. HA! He was hilarious.
Tad made you laugh but he could also make you cry as realized when he mourned the death of his little sister, Jenny Gardner. I do hope they don’t waste his talent making him play some mustache twitching villain.
And speaking of The Mustache, as Tad Michael E Knight went up against the formidable Adam Chandler so it follows he can hold his own with Victor.

Hey dear Harry..
The ‘real’ Tad was his writer ..
the actor acts the role the writer creates for him life,
the writers are the characters LOL 😉

Boy that was some digging into the archives. I was just a young whipper snapper with Tad’s sister Jenny dying. My mom started watching AMC when she was on maternity leave with me. She stuck with it for several years so I have a vague recollection of these stories. I did become fond of it myself when I was in my teens/20s. It’s a shame how that show was destroyed.

I love Knight as well and don’t want to see him become a joke, but with whom we are dealing, I haven’t much hope for a good story or character.

Suoo, far be it for me to correct you but you don’t seem to understand the translation which occurs between writing and acting. The best writers in the world cannot make a character come alive and be fleshed out accordingly if the acting isn’t there. Please don’t explain the obvious to me and then I won’t have to explain what figurative truth is all about.

Harry…I do miss the elegance of Adam Chandler and the warmth of his alter-ego brother Stuart. ( And even Susan Lucci). Also you really are a glutton for punishment when it comes to Su. You keep trying, and trying…

Oh Rose, thank you.
I want to jump on the positive–Michael Knight is returning to our screen.
Yes, I know this is a reoccurring role and the writing may not be up to par, however, MEK has a way of making things work.
After all, when he first appeared as Tad Martin on AMC all those years ago he was supposed to be a bad guy. But that impish grin, those glinting eyes made him rise above the material.
I realize I am being naive but I am just going to focus on that right now.

Also, while I am happy that people have jobs (happy for Michael E. Knight), what about Judith Chapman?! That woman can act CIRCLES around all of the so-called “talent” on the screen currently.

Gloria is needed for her family and comedic relief, I mean ACTUAL comedic relief and not the kind of laughs we get now where the writing is so bad it is funny, but not in a good way. 😉

Is Michael E. Knight with contract? or a short stay? or what ?

He’s recurring not contract. It sounds like he’s being brought in for a specific storyline although they didn’t give details on length of storyline. If fans like a character, they sometimes get on permanent. I hope he does well and has a character that lets his humor shine through. Not sure how he’ll do playing a doctor. This is where we’ll see if he’s truly an “actor”! Woo hoo.

Her and Jeff need to open a new restaurant ASAP! The club with Lilly and Cane is old!

Yes! Thank you! Phelps burning down Gloworm in favor of (no one sees it anymore) stupid On the Boulevard was the worst thing. Billy doesn’t even own it anymore either.

Yes! Yes! and Yes! Judith Chapman needs to be back on for her multitude of talents. Wish they’d let me write this show. JFP would be killed off in a fiery explosion right along with CP Jr.

Get a petition going … I’ll sign. 🙂

Love her. Love her. Love her! Bring back Judith Chapman!

Yes! See all these intelligent people who know TALENT when they see it … or don’t see it these days. 🙁

I miss Gloria so much. And yes, soaps need some comedy relief to balance the heaviness.

Smart woman! Y&R NEEDS Judith Chapman and her Gloria!

Judith Chapman is exceptional; a talent wasted on her meager scripts for the “Young and the Restless.” Yes, yes, this soap needs to lighten the very dark and dismal path that has been followed this past year. Why on earth did the writers extend the Neal, Hilary, whatever the name of the young man is, story. I simply cannot watch their escapades.

I agree about the Winters triangle. Total FF material for me. Neal can be an ass, but I can’t believe he’d go this far. Creepy but not in a good way IMO.

I loved Michael as Tad. Hope he took into account the strange misuse of Cady McClain on TY&TR

Yeah…the love of his life; Dixie.
Poor Cady.

You’re absolutely right. If he doesn’t have a good story to play, it won’t matter how hot the actor is.

No one mentioned “hot”. The man is pushing 60. We are talking about a daytime vet who deserves a quality character and writing, not to be saddled with a stupid short term part.

Dylan – that’s what I said. He needs a good story. When I said hot I meant popular, in demand, lots of fans …..

YES!!!!!!! Praise Jeebus.

Fantastic news! We have missed Micheal E. Knight onscreen for so long! Cannot wait until Oct 15th!

I am glad to see Michael on daytime again but I am NOT happy he is coming to Y and R with an EP and Head Writer that are horrible and cant even deal with the talented yet over abundant cast they already have.

Love Michael E. Knight. Maybe something interesting on Y&R. It will be good to see him again.

Sure, let them turn YR into AMC…..,

Not following how bringing Michael on is turning YR into AMC. Are you referring to Charles Pratt also being there? Oooh, maybe he’s responsible for hiring MEK. I suddenly like Pratt a little!

Love Michael and glad he has found work, even in a recurring role. I don’t watch Y and R. There is no need to pair him with any Dixie type character, she died three times but should have stayed dead the first time. No need to bring Cady McLain into the picture either.

wish he could have had storyline with Cady they should bring her back ,we didn’t see a body did we?? lol..they had so much chemistry together!!

I have never watched AMC so not familiar with Michael Knight; However, I am not impressed with his acting abilities on Y &R. He acts very goofy and odd. Very unnecessary storyline. I wish his whole persona could change. I have Ben watching Y&R since 1972 and this guy is annoying!!

Carol Burnett Talks About Being a Superfan of ‘All My Children’ on ‘Live with Kelly and Mark’

In a heartfelt reunion, of sorts, the one and only Carol Burnett appeared on Monday March 25th episode of Live with Kelly and Mark.

Burnett had first met Kelly Ripa (Hayley) and Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo) back when they all appeared on All My Children together. Carol played Verla Grubbs first in 1983 and then again in the 90’s.

Host Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, AMC) noted to Burnett that “we go back a long time”. She also described Burnett’s character of Verla Grubbs, “extraordinary in every way.”

Carol’s love for All My Children is well-documented, hence legendary soap creator, Agnes Nixon, created the role of Verla for Burnett.

Photo: ABC

Speaking on how her passion for All My Children began, Carol told Kelly and Mark, “It started with my kids. They would watch at noon. I said, ‘What are you guys doing?’ I sat down and I started to watch and I got hooked!”

When Carol’s family decided to travel through Europe during one summer, the comedic legend recalled thinking, “How am I going to last if I don’t know what’s going on in Pine Valley?” She revealed she had a friend, “who sent me a telegram to the (different hotels) on Fridays to bring me up to date.”

Photo: ABC

In a hilarious moment from the segment, Carol recalled receiving a late night telegram while in Lake Cuomo when there was a knock at her hotel room door from the hotel manager who was shaking.

Carol related what it said, “Erica is still in a coma. Mark slipped again and ran away from rehab.” As Kelly and Mark broke into laughter, Burnett continued, “Chuck has learned that Donna is carrying his baby, who was once a hooker.”

Check out Carol explaining how she became an AMC Superfan below.

Malachy McCourt, ‘Ryan’s Hope’ and ‘All My Children’ Actor, Dead at 92

If you watched Ryan’s Hope through its 14-year-run, you know that Kevin the bartender became a beloved “member’ of the Ryan clan on the defunct ABC daytime drama series. The character of Kevin MacGuiness became so loved by the fans because of the actor who portrayed him, Malachy McCourt.

Sadly, according to his wife Diana McCourt to The New York Times, Malachy passed away on Monday from a heart condition and battling cancer. The actor was 92-years-old.

Playing Kevin on Ryan’s Hope was not much of a stretch for McCourt, because in his lifetime, he was the owner of 1950s Irish pub Malachy’s on Third Avenue in Manhattan. Known as one of the city’s great story-tellers, patrons from longshoremen to the actor Richard Harris would stop in and talk all things Irish with . On Ryan’s Hope, Kevin was best friends to “Ryan’s Bar” owner, Johnny Ryan (Bernie Barrow) and he tried to keep Delia (Ilene Kristen) on the straight and narrow.

Photo: ABC

In his soap opera career, McCourt also was widely-known for his role of Father Clarence McCourt on All My Children especially come Christmastime. Was Clarence, actually St. Nick? That was always the proverbial question. McCourt also appeared on the New York soaps: One Life To Live, Search For Tomorrow and Another World. Other roles included: Devil’s Own, Brewster’s Millions, The Molly Maguires, and Starman, to name

Later in 2006, Malachy ran for governor of the state of New York as a Green Party candidate. He tackled social issues of the time including being an advocate for gay and lesbian groups to march in the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Photo: ABC

McCourt’s childhood was recounted within his brother Frank McCourt’s Pulitzer Prize-winning memoir Angela’s Ashes, which detailed their mother’s attempt to raise the four of their surviving seven children in poverty in Limerick, Ireland. Later, Malachy wrote his own memoirs: 1998’s Monk Swimming, and 2000’s Singing My Him Song.

Malachy is survived by his aforementioned wife, Diana, daughter Siobhan McCourt; sons Malachy Jr., Conor and Cormac; stepdaughter Nina Galin; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Share you remembrances and condolences for Malachy McCourt via the comment section, but first check out this scene from a 1983 episode of “Ryan’s Hope” featuring the late actor with Ilene Kristen.
