General Hospital

Are OLTL's Ted King and Michael Easton headed to General Hospital?

Courtesy/ABC

Courtesy/ABC

There is a report today that has surfaced from ABC Soaps In Depth that indicated they have heard rumblings that both Ted King (Currently Tomas, OLTL and Ex- Alcazar on GH) and Michael Easton ( Currently John, OLTL and Ex- Caleb, PC) could be headed to General Hospital in which the duo would reunite with the new GH creative team ( and former OLTL team) of  Frank Valentini and Ron Carlivati!

According to SID, “King, will possibly be returning to Port Charles in the new year, and he may be bringing Michael Easton (John) with him! A spokesperson for the soap reminds that GH does not comment on rumors, but word is that both actors have a tentative start date set for late January.

Courtesy/ABC

It’s unclear whether King will return as an Alcazar brother, or his OLTL role. And one source reports that Easton would most likely be appearing as his Llanview Police detective alter ego.”

The item goes on to hint that Kristen Alderson (Starr, OLTL) could possibly be being considered for the role of Kristina, (Sonny and Alexis’s daughter) last played by Lexi Ainsworth.

So what do you think of a King/Easton arrival in Port Charles? Let us know!

I hope Frank and Ron are given enough time to turn the soap around. With Katie’s show set to debut in September, it isn’t much time. Michael Easton’s John McBain would make sense in PC, but what about Natalie? Not sure about Ted King..though he is a good actor. Time will tell.

WOW, I love these two,Id rather oltl stay on tv and be able to watch them in landview, but if they ,cant port charlas will do ,can they be tomas and john ? and while my favorit writing team is going to gh ,can about 20 more people from oltl go to gh? todd blair tia vicky clint david roxy dorian .they can all relocate in a new city ,being the same characters .I will watch.anyway I am running out of the hours I have left with the best soap ever,ONE LIFE TO LIVE .

I love OLTL, but Ron/Frank need to be careful. Too many Llanview characters and they will piss off long time GH fans. ATWT brought over Jake McKinnon from AW and it was successful. It can be done. I hear rumors that the actress who plays Starr is being considered for the role of Kristina on GH. Time will tell. OLTL should have never been axed.

i agree oltl is the best abc soap and gh being axed in may makes no sence abc is going down the tubes in daytime t.v.

TSJ! But GH is getting cancelled by summer, so the point is a little moot. KA would be a horrible Kristina.

True. My bad.

But agree with what said about KA.

As someone pointed out here, I don’t think GH fans wants their show to become Llanview. And I would go as far as saying that some OLTL fans probably also don’t want GH to become the new OLTL.

Lori
Lori

I would not like them going to GH. I still am wanting #AMC and #OLTL to find safe and loving homes so these shows can continue on.

Heather
Heather

I have to disagree Many of the actors have moved on and some probably already have found a job. A return of AMC and OLTL at this point would mean shows with a bunch of recast or new characters. That would be AMC and OLTL in name only.

Hey, people have to work! If it is true, I wish them the best. They are both good actors.

Too soon for me to even think about this. I’m still in mourning over OLTL, so I don’t want to even envision my OLTL characters on another soap.

Really. Totally agree. OLTL is the best & it would be too weird to see any of those beloved people on dark, violent, creepy, repititious, non-family oriented (unless it’s their mob familier) not funny ever, GH.

I wouldn’t mind TK or ME coming over to GH – especially if they paired ME back up with KeMo (a la Port Charles). I can’t see KA as Kristina AT ALL. I think that would be a very poor choice. I think GH needs to step up its game, regardless of these casting decisions. Pay more attention to history, families, love/romance, even comedy (Diane Miller? HELLO???) and stop with the violence, bad pairings and rushed storylines.

If anyone here is a Y&R fan you noticed how them bringing actors from other soaps that were cancelled works. Think Genie Francis, Maura West, Debbie Morgan. Fix the characters you have FIRST! Please everyone seems to think they are the 2nd coming I beleive these are the guys that gave OLTL the Ford brothers, Cutter, Rick Aubrey, and not writing for the longtime vets. I can bet you GH actors will not be happy with this. And for the record Lexi Ainsworth was a good actress and a lovely person and if she got fired becasue she wasn’t old enough or sexy enough. Kirsten Alderson is not the recast for this she grew up on OLTL if this is how it is going down add another nail in the coffin.

Jane
Jane

I do NOT want Port Charles to turn into Lanview…
Ted King is a GH alum so if he wants to return as, what a third Alcazar brother…maybe but not need to bring ME over…
And if they got rid of Lexi cause she wasn’t sexy enough Kristen would not be a good a choice besides…there are way too many blondes on GH

Deb

G*D knows Pt Chuckles needs some competent cops there, as long as he don’t bring Gnatalie, Jawn is welcomed.

I can’t stand all the mob stuff on GH. I fell in love with the heroes there in the 1980s and can’t believe all the violence and crime there now. Just the other day I told my husband GH was so depressing that it hurt to watch. I sure hope the new team can whip it into shape. Ted and Michael would be a welcome addition.

Shelly
Shelly

i think that if Kristen Alderson come to GH she should play Starr, and Blair should flow, and still be with Thomas….. this two story lines could weave wonders together….

Jennifer
Jennifer

None of these three recasts sound like a good idea and certainly not so soon in late January. They need to concentrate on core characters. Easton I guess would be OK if they can’t get Lucky back but why would they need him if they have Anna, Robert and Mac? Ted King I do not want to see as either a mobster or an agent. Again, we have some core characters that fill both of those roles very nicely. And I would love to see Duke back as the grey, sophisticated mobster. The Lexi situation is very sensitive. Cartini had better tread carefully with fans who’ve been denied SO MUCH of what they want over the past years.

aria
aria

jennifer i agree, you know what needs to be done? all these people who take over shows need to stop thinking they can make a show better by adding new characters and not paying attention to what they have already in place. GH problem is not the on air talent but the behind the scene talent who time an time again make the same mistake and start firing actors we love and replacing them with “their talent”.

kcl
kcl

I have to add my voice to yours, too. With Sonny’s gang and the Zaccharas, Port Charles already has more mobsters than it needs. What is GH gonna do, bring back Ted King as Lorenzo Alcazar and have a hate triangle as opposed to a love triangle?! The show needs to tone down the crime and violence and pump up the romance and core families. They could do both with the original Duke Lavery, GH’s archetypical gangster with a heart of gold. Lorenzo could never be more than a pale imitation of a guy who took down two mob families and captured none other than Anna Devane’s heart.

FP
FP

As much as I love and am going to miss OLTL, I don’t think that it would be wise for FV and RC to risk alienating GH fans with these sort of casting moves. For instance, Ted King is a good actor, but bringing back Lorenzo Alcazar (or ANY Alcazar) would only serve to perpetuate the mob nonsense instead of lessening it. As for the character of Tomas, would he really leave Blair, Tea’ , Dani and his new niece or nephew to relocate to PC? I can’t see it. Same goes for John re: Natalie and Liam. These people belong in Llanview. That’s how I want to remember them. And KA, as likeable as she is as Starr (JMO), is totally wrong for the role of Kristina. Frank and Ron need to concentrate on making GH a much better show by improving the quality of the stories and scripting for the cast members that are already there.

genia

everyone thinks oltl is golden, but it had its flaws too, and to act like it was perfect is a big mistake, if they make gh to much like oltl then it wont work, i don’t mind some actors coming over, only if they take the place of the newbies, but not the gh vets, and i don’t think KA, is a better replacement as kristina then the original, who they should bring back.

Merry Christmas to Soap Fans and I hope next year keeps the four soaps left on the air that we get writers etc to save them. It is with a heavy heart that I who have moved schedules etc over the years to catch a glimpse of story telling might come to a total end. Keep the Faith!!!!

I would not mind if Ted King comes back to the show, but not John McBain, I can not see him working with Dante and Mac/ As far as Kirsten Aldreson as Kristina, that makes now sense as she is the same age as the last actress and she is blonde does not look like a Corrinthos( can not see her with dyed brown hair) I think the character just needs to stay at college. GH will be off the air in May so very sad..

barbara t
barbara t

where did you read that g h will be over in may ? I thought that katie (the ,I got fired from cbs because I couldnt do the nightly news ,and now abc hired me because I can do a talk show now.) couric, will be killing gh in september.and as far as john mcbain goes ,he will fit in very well.and kirsten alderson can pretty much do anything,I have watched her grow up on oltl and she is a beauitful star. gh needs help, there is to much crime and the stories are boring.and if I had a choice of which soap I would keep on abc ,It would be ONE LIFE TO LIVE,It was never boring.sure they had crime ,and bo and john could find the bad guys, but gh goes on and on about sonnys life its sonny this and sonny that ,and yes i grew tired of GENERAL HOSPITAL,If they have a chance to save it ,It has to be done now.

Heather

No one knows what will happen to General Hospital. So please people, stop speculating that General Hospital will be cancelled. It may or may not cancelled. But last time I checked, none of you worked for ABC.

barbara t
barbara t

merry christmas .did you read what I said, where did you read that gh will be over in may?Ididnt say it will be over in may, and every sight I go to says katie couric will have a talk show, that is no speculation .there were rumors that abc would cancel amc and oltl and look what happened amc is gone and oltl has very little time left.and I do think that gh needs a john mcbain and tomas and if they take star to ,I like it.No I dont work for abc ,but I do know they put alot of people out of work, right down to the people who deliver the meals it goes on and on ,its not speculation ,its fact. so i dont think I would want to work for abc they messed up alot of people, and thats sad.

Heather
Heather

I’m very well aware that Katie Couric has a show that will take General Hospital’s timeslot.

I’m not saying that General Hospital is not going to cancelled nor do I say it’s going to get cancelled.

As recently two years ago, everybody said One Life to Live and Days of Our Lives would both go before All My Children. Well look what happened. All I’m saying is let’s stop thinking about the future and let’s live to the present. Because the future can hold many surprises.

barbara t
barbara t

I agree ,and I hope that we do get a big surprise, that one life to live stays on tv and all my children makes a comeback.there are alot of fans that will support the shows ,they will be watched.I am getting worried that general hospital will start getting the stars that belong on one life to live.As far as that pp (the online network ) say. that one life to live and all my children still have life,I hope they tell the soap fans something ,this waiting game ,is crazy, anyway all the soap fans that are on facebook go to the sight ,daytime fans unite ,hit the like button to get counted as a soap fan ,we are trying to get to ten thousand by this weekend.

Scott.

The LAST thing GH needed was Carlivati/Valentini. So I hope they don’t destroy the show and making it boring like OLTL has been for years.

If King came back, I’d want it as al Alcazar brother, and as for Easton? I don’t want him nor need him. And if Kristen comes on as Kristina, I think I could tolerate that, as Lexi was a tad annoying and Kristen is less annoying, but I hated that character regardless.

GH doesn’t need new cast members. They need to condense their cast and bring back the two core families: Spencers and Quartermaines.

barbara t
barbara t

seriously ,you dont like one life to live? you think it is boring?the best thing for gh is the writers of oltl.Ive watched general hospital pretty much since day one and in the last 10 to 15 years its been boring. instead of giving sonny another kid, which he has to many ,they should have brought laura back.and get rid of franco.now thats boring.bringing robert and anna is a good idea to.I still would like oltl stay on tv and forget about anyone going to gh.

Scott
Scott

I hate OLTL. It should’ve gone before GL/ATWT/AMC. The WORST thing for GH right now are Valentini/Carlivarti. Everything OLTL has done is boring. It’s slow ans the acting is somewhat horrific by several of the actors.

1loveabcsoaps
1loveabcsoaps

Amen.

barbara t
barbara t

ok calm down,us oltl fans really want to keep the show on tv or the net. dont want to see any one go to gh,but thats what is happening with the writers ,john and tomas. If the writing staff of gh was so good ,why is abc sending them packing?I know alot of gh fans like the crime stories ,I dont its to much sonny and I cant stand franco and his stupid codes he spray paints all over port charlas ,I started watching gh when it began ,and it was never written like it is now. this gh is the sonny corintos show, nothing more nothing less and I am sick of it.

Scott
Scott

ABC aren’t sending Wolf packing, they’re just demoting him. I don’t like the crime stories, I could care less about Sonny and Franco is just insulting. If Valentini/Carlivati were so good, why did OLTL get the boot? Ever think of that? I lost GL/ATWT, you can stand to lose OLTL. No sympathy here.

Valentini/Carlivati are a way of saying f-you GH fans and goodbye to the series.

barbara t
barbara t

ABC has been cheep with one life to live ,and valentini /carlivati where keeping the costs down ,the cast all took cuts in pay, and they still put on one hell of a good show.valentini /carlivati are not the reason amc and oltl were canceled ,abc wants out of the soap business, there changing everything on there daytime programing,if anyone said f-you it was abc to the cast and the fans of amc and oltl.abc wants to go CHEEP,and soaps do cost alot to produce ,I could be wrong but I think abc made a big mistake alienated alot of abc fans ,abc was always my choice to watch daytime and night, now all I will watch is gh after oltl is over.and by the way wasnt the gl/atwt on cbs?those two soaps being canceled have nothing to do with why abc canceled amc and oltl.and oltl was never any slower than any other soap, keeps you tuned in every day,and thats why they call them SOAPS. ,they go on and on and thats what keeps you wanting more.one life ti live is like my family for 43 years ,its not going to be easy letting go.

Scott
Scott

Yes, ABC is alienating their soap following, or should I say Frons was. Times are changing, and mothers aren’t staying home to watch soaps. Times are changing and this is a reflection of the times.

And I only referred to GL/ATWT because of everyone losing AMC/OLTL. I’m a CBS guy at heart, have been since I was three years old. OLTL is slow, and that DOESN’T make people tune in. Slow means it’s slow; they drag storylines out for too long and some of them are just outrageous. OLTL is slow, and I don’t think Valentini/Carlivati are all they’re cracked up to be. I give them a month before I stop watching GH.

barbara t
barbara t

you really should give gh more than a month ,I still do not agree with you about oltl being slow,if you watch gh lisa going after robin was one of the longest stories that would not end ,I thought it was over when she was in a coma and johnnys crazy father (I like him ) woke her up ,insane.oltl seems more like family .gh is the sonny corintous show and I dont like that in a soap,gh killed the quartermaines ,they are hardly ever on whats left of them and why they killed aj and alan doesnt make sense. I watched gh since its beginning ,my friend and I would run home from school and sit with my grandmother and enjoy, and why abc couldnt keep the soap channel ,well we will never know, theres a love channel food channel western sci fi whats wrong with a soap channel ? they could put all of them on . including the ones that are gone.but seriously you have to give the writers longer than a month .takes longer then a month to create a good story.and frons was a abc puppet ,hes not the only one who killed the soaps.

Heather
Heather

barbara t said “and by the way wasnt the gl/atwt on cbs?those two soaps being canceled have nothing to do with why abc canceled amc and oltl”

And you expect people to believe that CBS’s cancellation of GL and ATWT did not influence in any way ABC’s move to cancel AMC and OLTL.

barbara t
barbara t

heather, then why didnt they start canceling all the soaps when abc killed ryans hope, another good soap.santa barbara, all good soaps ,I believe all the networks want out of the soap business, and thats sad ,because there are alot of people who want to save the soaps ,I am one of them.and I know I keep saying this, one life to live ,should not be canceled, its one hell of a good show.have you seen the trash thats going to replace it?awful.

Heather
Heather

@barbara t

Soaps have always been cancelled in the 1960s, the 1970s and the 1980s. But when a soap was cancelled back then,it was usually a short lived soap opera being replaced by another soap.

NBC’s cancellation of Passions most likely did not influence ABC because 1) Passions was a short lived soap opera and 2) NBC has a reputation of being a soap killer with little stability in its daytime block. But CBS is a different story. Like ABC, CBS soaps were on the air for a very longtime. Like ABC, CBS had a stable daytime block. So when CBS eliminated GL and ATWT to replace them by junk shows, that pretty much set the standard for ABC to make it acceptable to cancel long running soap operas and replace them by yet other trash shows.

Now, the next step for broadcast networks is which one will be the first to exit the soap opera business and to set the “exemple” to the other two networks. CBS has two soap operas,so it’s unlikely that they will be the first network to exit the business. It will most likely be ABC or NBC. But once a network breaks the ice to exit the industry, the other two networks will follow suit.

I do believe that soap operas will return in 20 or 30 years from now ,albeit in a new format. But soap operas as we know them today, meaning the soap operas that were created by Irna Phillips and her descendants (Nixon, Bell, Corday, etc), are unfortunately going the way of the dinosaur.

Scott.
Scott.

@Barbara sorry but I’m not giving them more than a month. I fail to see the power of the mighty team of Valentini/Carlivarti. I found everything they did on OLTL to be boring and slow.

@Heather if anything, ABC would be the first to exit. NBC is really giving DAYS the light of day, finally. CBS wouldn’t cancel Y&R nor B&B, Y&R is their second highest rated programme to-date, and B&B is one of their highest. NBC is truly investing into DAYS now, especially since their reboot. It’s ABC that wants out of the daytime industry.

Heather
Heather

@Scott

But the reboot has done nothing to improve the ratings of DAYS. Every weeks, DAYS is competing with GH for the dead last position in the ratings. If ratings remain the way they currently are, there’s no way NBC is going to renew it in 2013.

I don’t think NBC necessarily invest more in DAYS than ABC does with GH. ABC has recently renovated some of GH’s sets as well as hiring Valentini and Carvilarti. ABC and NBC run promos of GH and DAYS in similar proportions. But more is expected from DAYS than GH because NBC does not own the show like ABC does with GH.

Scott
Scott

@Heather
But in retrospective of the dwindling stance of daytime, it’s ratings are good. The reboot really rejuiced the show and NBC’s dedication to it. I remember a time NBC wanted out on soaps and now they seem to be holding on as I heard they tried buying AMC from ABC.

As for Carlivarti/Valentini, that’s to sink GH. Not to save it. I fail to see how amazing these two are. IF they were amazing, how come OLTL is cancelled? Huh? Someone care to tell me that? If they were so masterful, the show wouldn’t be ending.

Heather
Heather

Days ratings are not by any means good. It is dead last among the five soap operas in terms of total viewers, even behind ABC’s two soaps . In December, Days recorded, not one, but TWO all-time low ratings among the 18-49 women category. This is what NBC wants to renew in 2013??????? You tell me.

AMC on AMC is a rumor that was started by hardcore AMC fans on Facebook. The same fans said that AMC would go on OWN, USA and Bravo, all of which turned out to be false. AMC is not going anywhere and certainly not on NBC because 1) ABC won’t sell it to NBC and 2) NBC doesn’t want it on its schedule.

To be honest with you, I don’t expect much from the Carlivarti/Valentini duo on GH. I was trying to make a point that NBC does not necessarily invest more on Days than ABC does with GH.

Heather
Heather

@Scott

On my last post, I met to say “AMC on NBC is a rumor that was started by hardcore AMC fans on Facebook”.(instead of AMC on AMC). But you probably had already figured it out, lol.

Here, here. I totally agree! As much as I LOVE Michael Easton, GH needs to focus on the Spensers and Quartamaines. Bring back Alan. Let it be all a bad dream, ala “Dallas”. That will be the GH I knew and loved back in the day.

Scott

GH doesn’t need Easton. He’s the last thing they need. Wolf did the base work for bringing the Quartermaines back in, now they need someone like Lorraine Broderick to come in and bring it all together. Wolf said mob would be a back story, but it’s still too much on the forefront. Sonny is too much of a focus, though seeing him in Bensonhurst has given me a slightly new light to him.

IF the former OLTL writers wanted to bring super-cop McBain and super-secret agent Tomas Delgado to General Hospital for a shoot-out with Sonny and Jason for the GH finale, I MIGHT be tempted to tune back in to General Hospital for the last couple of hours before the show lands in that big soap opera trash can in the sky. But that is the ONLY potential story line which MIGHT be able to lure me back to GH. Otherwise, just bringing some OLTL stars over to GH would NOT be any sort of inducement. After all, several years ago, when OLTL tried to imitate the “general hospital” mob infestation, OLTL fans rose up in disgust and OLTL quickly dumped the Llanview Mobsters story lines into the nearest dumpster. So the ONLY mobsters which would interest former OLTL viewers would be mobsters on the way to the slammer – OR on the way to the nearest graveyard!

you have a good point ,I hate the gh mob stories and francos finger painting all over port charles.BUT I keep watching and hoping that those stories END.sent all the mobsters like you said to the slammer or the graveyard.for a lonbg time now gh puts me to sleep ,BORING.

My poor 83 year old aunt ,she use to love gh and is so disappointed in abc for canceling oltl and amc, what she did was fast forward gh ,now she sleeps.same with me and I can leave the room come back same crap,Always the same stories,my point is abc will kill gh if something isnt done now ,the ratings will sink. choose now ,katie couric or general hospital,I want the soap.

That would be great if all those actors end up on GH.

Bringing Michael Easton and Ted King to GH would be a fantastic move. Pairing Michael Easton with Kelly Monaco would be a very smart idea. They have proven in the past that they are great together…so put them back together again and let them light up the screen again. I really hope this isn’t a rumor and both of these talented actors are headed to GH.

Kathy Eselhorst

I love Michael Easton and have grown to like Ted King. I really really hope they go to General Hospital. At least I will still get to see them. Since soap operas are notorious for bringing people back they should bring Kaitlyn back for John. I wonder how that would work out? I firmly expect to see a lot of the actors/actresses from OLTL show up making General Hospital their new home. There will be a lot more money with just one soap on ABC.

Debbie Conners

I’d love to see them on GH, too. I’d also like GH to fill up two hours of daytime now!! (I think soaps are more real than these “reality” shows they’re putting on the air!)

Scott,There is no way a story can be created in a month ,not on a soap, your mind is made up that gh will be trashed ,and oltl was boring and slow so I cant change your mind about that ,but if you care about the soaps no matter which one you watch ,they have to be saved or they will be gone. One life to live was my choice of best soap ever ,and I have been tuning in for 50 years of soap watching ,even michael agrees one life to live ,best soap, and it is ,the best writing and the wonderful cast.and GH will not be gone because of the writing ,It will be gone because abc wants it gone, and Im afraid thats what is happing ,if abc cared about there soap fans they would let agnes nixons stories go to another network instead of hanging on to them ,In other words, there not going to have them ,but no one else is either .Thats ABC for you .When gh is gone ,I am to.

she was asked to put the soaps on her new network and she turned them down, her network from what I am hearing is not doing to good ,I believe she should have taken those soaps and ran with them, she would have millions of all my children and one life to live fans tuning in everyday,But even if she did want to take them abc wont let the soaps go without a big check, abc is greed ,If there not going to keep the soaps ,no one else will get them either and thats sad that abc killed those soaps with such rich history .When they cancel general hospital ,Im done with abc, most of there programing daytime and prime time is rapidly going down hill. And I hope those shows they put on to take over all my children and one life to live ,get canceled ,abc says the chew is doing good I dont buy it.there commercials are cheep and tacky,no way I could spent an hour there with all those people ,and the food looks like something I cant write here.

I have been watching this soap drama for many years. I can remember when Star was a very you lady. I really feel so betrayed because I won’t have these people in my life any more.
Please take pity on all their fans and find a place for them to stay on.
The revolution should be to have fans fight for their show and give their loyal fans some satisfaction.

Starr is too blonde and white to play Kristina. Plus, she has been Starr for so long, it would be difficult to accept her as an established character on GH. If they want to add her to the cast, a new character would be soooo refreshing!!!! Laura and Luke’s long lost daughter that Laura had while suffering from amnesia while away from Luke, maybe with the Cassadines!

barbara t

we already had that story, nicolas remember him .wish they would bring him back .and star is not to blond and white to play anything ,shes good ,I have watched her since she was a little star and that girl can act.I would love to see her on gh,bring half of landview ,more than half.I still cant believe one life to live is canceled.gh has bad writing ,has been boring for many years ,and if the writers from one life to life can fix that ,GOOD for gh,And having a little piece of landview in port charles is good, get rid of all that crime ,theres to much of it.but if I have a choice ,I would want one life to live to stay on ,cancel the cancellation ABC.

Sorry Barbara. I met that message for Terrrie, that I just sent to you. But you told Terrrie right, (which I didn’t see and that’s why I was responding, No need to now). Yes, we have already had that story and I state that as well, meaning Nickolas, being the child she didn’t know about.

1loveabcsoaps
1loveabcsoaps

I think you hit it on the nail when you said she has been Star for to long, it would be difficutl to accept her as an established character on GH. Agreed, because I have thought ‘same’. Star needs to take some time off, and then should she resign with another soap, it should be on another channel. Signing up with abc, and GH would be a disaster. For the record, that was a Good idea you had about Star being a long lost daughter, BUT Laura was in a facility while she was suffering n amnesia. And too, she already has a child she didn’t know about, It would be too far fetched. Star needs to go to another channel in due time. That is what would be refreshing.

barbara t

I disagree with you that kristen alderson played star for so long she cant be on general hospital or play any other role ,she is a actress and a very good singer,Did you see her sing that song the way mr pron guy wants her to sing it ?pretty good .I would love to see her on general hospital ,not as lauras daughter.and k a . does not have to take time off she has already, since abc threw everyone out after taping at the abc studio, thats long enough ,my point is I know she can be anyone she puts her heart into doing she an actress, and if its gh so be it,gh needs help, people are leaving ,maybe there jumping ship before abc sinks it ,but something has to be done to gh its boring ,it needs all the help it can get ,the stories need to be changed ,my writers from one life to live can do that .still I would rather they stay at ONE LIFE TO LIVE.and continue the millions of stories that are left for that soap.I am so disappointed in abc.

GH’s Roger Howarth Chats On Shifting From Franco To Drew & The Stunning Story Twist

In one of the most intriguing plots of 2019, General Hospital’s Franco Baldwin was morphed into Navy SEAL Andrew Cain following a harrowing mind-mapping procedure. In all went down thanks to Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) and Dr, Cabot (Time Winters), taking the life and memories of Drew (Billy Miller) from his flash drive and transferring them into Franco’s brain, wiping out his past and his present.  That followed the tearjerker moment, when Franco sacrificed himself to free his kidnapped stepson, Cameron (William Lipton) from the twisted procedure; that could have left the teenager with Drew’s memories or even in a vegetative state.

The recipient of this storyline – and who would be taking on another persona in his storied daytime drama career – is none other than Roger Howarth.  The Daytime Emmy- winning actor is no stranger to changing fictional identities on GH.  Howarth, played OLTL’s Todd Manning over in Port Charles, later switching to Franco (previously played by James Franco) following the legal dispute between ABC and Prospect Park.

Last week, viewers got their first glimpse of Howarth taking on the traits of Drew circa 2012, and in short order, it has caused emotional upheaval for Franco’s wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Drew himself, Jason (Steve Burton), and Kim (Tamara Braun)… and that’s just for starters.

Michael Fairman TV chatted with Roger as he started his journey transforming his work from playing Franco to Drew and the challenges it presents, plus the ripple effect the change will have on the canvas for many of the characters.  In addition for One Life to Live fans, Roger chats about his appreciation for his time on that iconic series in a candid, self-effacing, and special conversation.  Here’s what Howarth shared:

Courtesy/ABC

When you were told that they were going to put Drew’s memories into Franco, what was your initial reaction to learning that news?  Did you think it was a great twist?

ROGER:  Yeah, I think it’s a great idea.  I really do.  Good story needs a lot of things, and this checks a lot of the boxes.  It brings people together; it provides obstacles.  There are a lot of places this could lead to.  I just think it’s really smart and interesting.  I look forward to it a lot, and I can already tell by what I have shot thus far that it’s going to be fun.

If this story is written well, what has happened to Franco will be life-altering and crucial to so many people’s lives in Port Charles.

ROGER:  What I like about it, and this isn’t lip service, is that it’s a great story because it affects a lot of people.  Those are the good stories.  Elizabeth has got to deal with this, the boys have to deal with this, Scotty’s (Kin Shriner) got to deal with it, Jason is confused by this information, and now this person in interacting with Drew, and Kim, and Shiloh.  All of the sudden, the canvas is interacting completely differently.  So, I think the writers are having fun with this as well.

Photo: ABC

Then, there is also the character of Kim played by Tamara Braun, who Drew shares a past with.  It will be interesting to see how that relationship plays out, we already witnessed Franco’s Drew instantly smitten and attracted to her.

ROGER:  Yes, the person in this body is running under a certain set of assumptions that no one else shares.  So, yes, it’s confusing to everybody, I am sure, including Kim.

Do you see Franco eventually flipping back and forth, and having personality traits of both he and Drew?

ROGER:  No.  One hundred percent, no, and that provides a real obstacle with a couple like Franco and Elizabeth.  They are always looking for obstacles to prove to the audience that these two people really do care about one another, and that’s the purpose of a story like this.  I’m guessing and hoping that it will provide the character of Elizabeth with a particular objective because it would be nice to see Becky be able to play all of those beats.

Right, and to have to fight for something…

ROGER:  Yes, it’s very tragic.  This is a character that is accustomed to tragedy, and to see Becky play the role of Elizabeth dusting herself off, trying to get what she wants is going to be really cool.

Courtesy/ABC

The tragic twist had Franco saving Cameron from winding up with Drew’s memories and being the vessel for Shiloh to use.  What did you think about how Franco sacrificed himself in order to protect Elizabeth’s son?  It was quite heroic.

ROGER:  I think the other beautiful part of this is that this was motivated by love.  I don’t see it as heroic.  I think as an actor, you’re always looking for the heart of the story, and the writers made it really simple.  He does this because he loves this kid.  Yeah, they’ve had their ups and downs, and they are struggling to figure out how they can get along, and they have a lot of things that they feel about one another, but push actually did come to shove, and I think that the character of Cameron is going to be deeply affected by that.

Courtesy/ABC

This now puts Franco deep within Shiloh’s storyline and past with Drew, because Shiloh desperately wants a key piece of information locked in Drew’s memories.  So, in theory, this kind of ranks among one of the better stories you’ve probably ever gotten to tell in your daytime career.  Everyone is hoping that it lives up to its expectations in the execution of it on-air.

ROGER:  It is certainly a high concept story.  It’s asking a lot of the audience.  So far, we’re all in.  It’s a good cast.  I work with really good actors, so I’m not worried.  It is asking the audience to suspend disbelief for sure.  The good stories do.  I think Erika Slezak (Viki) on One Life to Live, getting to play Dissociative Identity Disorder as Niki and Viki that was a large ask.  She never blinked.  She did everything that was asked.  I’m trying to follow her example.

Exactly, and she played more characters.  She had more alters after that.

ROGER:  (Laughs)  Yeah!  She’s better at this than I am.  I’m having trouble with the one. (Laughs)

Photo: ABC

What do you think about how Scott and Franco’s relationship will be affected, now that he is in essence “Drew”?

ROGER:  There’s no part of that relationship that hasn’t changed because there is no Franco.  Franco is not around … Franco has left the building.

He is a completely new person for all intent and purposes.

ROGER:  For sure.  This soldier doesn’t appreciate being called by somebody else’s name.  He is not compassionate to the people who mistake him for this somewhat tortured art therapist that he no longer is.

Photo: ABC

What is also interesting is that this should put you right into conflict and scenes with Steve Burton, because now you are essentially playing Jason’s twin.

ROGER:  Yes.  For me, as an actor, to get a chance to work with Steve, and to play a like-minded person, is intimidating frankly, but it’s exciting.

Also, the audience knows how Franco and Jason are such enemies, and now, he is really in his mind his twin.

ROGER:  Yeah, Franco sees in many shades of gray and other colors, and from what I can tell, Franco as Drew sees the world much simpler.  He thinks more clearly, he finishes his sentences, he thinks before he speaks, he knows what he is going to say.  His point of view does not waiver.  He is determined.

Courtesy/ABC

That’s got to be so exciting for you to get to play after all of Franco’s psychological baggage and issues.

ROGER:  I’ve got to say, it’s been a bit of a challenge for me to play someone with a different set of speech patterns and who stands differently.  Because Drew thinks and feels differently about everything; his body is the same, but his body is behaving differently, and it speaks differently, and he thinks at a different tempo.  They’ve been very patient on set giving me chances to do it badly, so far. (Laughs)  It’s not uncommon for me to get halfway through a scene and to have to start over.   I am essentially figuring it out as we go along.   I am very appreciative of the fact that they have been giving me a few extra takes to try and figure out how this guy stands.  He relates to people with a different set of space and time.  It’s cool.  It’s a cool set of puzzles.  It’s been really fun.  I’m a lucky guy.

When I first learned of the story twist, I was like, “Oh! Roger will be great in this.”

ROGER:  I don’t know, man.  I could be stinking it up pretty badly. (Laughs)  I think there’s a trap as an actor who has been asked to play twins, and the trap is that this guy is only acting the way that he acts.  The trap is frankly to act too much because the audience is being told that he is a different person.  If I go too far to try to demonstrate that he is a different person, then it slips into parody or overacting.  Over the years, I have definitely been guilty of overacting, so, I’m a little frightened of it. (Laughs)  I don’t like the way it feels.  I know how it feels to go too far.  I have been getting notes like, “You could pull it back a little bit.”  (Laughs)  It’s pretty funny.

Courtesy/ABC

In the past, I have heard you say you’d rather go to work and feel unsettled about what you are asked to play.  Does that still hold true?

ROGER:  For sure!  I’d rather go to work and leave my job knowing that it was terrible and that I get to come back the next day and make it a little better.  The best thing about daytime is how much it will stretch you and pull you and ask as much of it as you are willing to put in.

Now speaking of Franco, what did you think about the wedding reception on the yacht with Elizabeth?  Did you think that was a nice payoff for Friz fans?

ROGER:  Yes, for sure.  I thought it was a really sweet culmination to a sweet story about these two people finding one another.  I’m glad they incorporated a large part of the cast.  It was a really good idea.

Photo: ABC

What did you think of how all of Elizabeth’s boys (Cameron, Aiden and Jake) performed a song for Franco and their mom at the reception, and how Franco relates to all of them?

ROGER:  I think it was a really important story point, and it was nice, and it was easy to play.  They’re really good kids, and they’re also terrific people.

Franco really stepped up as a stepdad to Aiden, who had been bullied at school.  I loved the cooking scene, where Franco was baking with Aiden.  What do you think about their relationship?  I love that Franco is being very understanding.

ROGER:  I think he’s trying to be understanding.  I don’t think he’s really great at it.   I think he’s a human being just trying to figure out how to make the best use of his time here, just like the rest of us.

Photo” ABC

General Hospital needed a big jolt with an umbrella story like this that turns the canvas a bit upside down.  How does it feel to be at the epicenter of it?

ROGER:   I really don’t think I’m the center of the story.  I’m not even kidding.  The story is that this piece of information is worn on the shoulders of Franco, but the people who are most effected by that piece of information are Kim and Elizabeth.

It will be interesting to see what the reaction is like from the GH audience.  You’re not on social media.  Will you check out what they are saying … or the feedback?

ROGER:  I’m not on social media.  But, I believe there is a guy whose job it is to track that initial criticism/support.  I think it is kind of cool that we will get real-time reviews, you know what I mean?  I actually thought about that because with the character of Franco, it took us a while to figure out who the guy was.  There was a lot of blonde hair and some missed cues, and we weren’t sure which relationship would be featured, whether it would be Franco and Ava (Maura West), or whether he would wind up in Carly’s (Laura Wright) arena again.  It took a while to figure out the best way to put that guy in the canvas, and I imagine that it will happen again.  I didn’t dye my hair for this, but I did cut it. (Laughs)

Photo: ABC

How was working with Billy Miller in this storyline twist?  Were you there on his last day on set?

ROGER:  Yes, I worked with Billy not on his last day, but on his last show.  He was remarkable with dignity and with class, and I wish him all the best.  He did a great job.  He is a good actor.  I’m sure he will find somewhere to go be an actor.

Throughout your soap career, has there been a story that you initially pooh-poohed, but when you did it, you thought, “Oh, this is great!”

ROGER:   There was a story when Carly and Franco were together, and they wrote a story where Franco gave Carly a gift that wound up being a camera…

Photo: ABC

The evil-eye necklace!

ROGER:  Yes, this small seeing rye.  I just thought, every time Franco would come in and say something like, “Oh, you’re wearing the necklace.  It’s so beautiful,” while we were doing it, I was like, “Wow.  The audience is really going to hate this.” (Laughs)  However, my real-time Twitter is the subway, and while it was airing, I got on the train and sat next to this really amazing fan, who just told me how much she loved that story, and I was honestly surprised and pleased.  I am often wrong, and it doesn’t surprise me now when I am wrong  … because I was really wrong then.

You mentioned Franco with Ava which was a potential pairing. I think you and Maura West have always had great chemistry together on screen.

ROGER:  Yes, she’s a pretty great actor.  She’s great with everybody.

She is.  You knew Maura’s work first when she was at As the World Turns, while you were there, also?

ROGER:  I didn’t know her well at As the World Turns, but I knew who she was.  She’s a hard worker, and Jack (Michael Park) and Carly always had a lot to do.  She was pretty focused when she was there, but I spoke to her.  I didn’t feel like I got to know her until I got to work with her on GH.

Photo: JPI

Last month on July 15th would have been the 51st anniversary of One Life to Live. I saw a lot of people commenting and remembering the show on social media that day. I put together four photos on a post I made about that show featuring some of the remarkable actors who were a part of it.  From there, I received hundreds of comments of how people were just missing the series, the characters, and actors they loved in it, including you.  When you look at the list of people from yourself to Judith Light, to Robin Strasser, Bob Woods, and of course Erika Slezak – it’s such an unbelievably talented group who spent time in Llanview.  Do you ever think about what an incredible experience that was, and how the fans still miss that show so much?

ROGER:  All the time.  I mean, I’m a lucky guy.  I think it really was a special building to work in, and the people who we are talking about: Erika (Viki), Bob (Bo), Robin (Dorian), and Phil Carey (Asa), and Clint Richie (Clint), and John Loprieno (Cord), the people who made it possible for me to work there set an environment and a tone that made it a really special place.  It was a really good cast, like you said, and there was a lot of opportunity for them to write a really cool story.  I wasn’t a part of the AIDS quilt storyline, but to realize that they told a story like that and incorporated that into our show was wonderful.

Photo: JPI

Such an amazing story and One Life was telling socially relevant and important issues of our time, always.

ROGER:  I can’t say for certain, but I do believe that the original concept of the Todd, Marty (Susan Haskell), and Powell (Sean Moynihan) storyline was kind of supposed to be initially an effort to bring awareness to a horrible, violent crime.  That was a long time before the #MeToo movement.  I think it was a show where the writers had a social conscious as well and really brought awareness to a lot of different things.  That’s a great legacy and something that show should be very proud of.

Once the character of  Todd Manning took off on One Life, and how they found ways to redeem him, and how it spoke to how much the network, the show, and the audience responded to your performances, did you ever feel you had a bit of a safety net as an actor, or were you like, “I’m going to be fired tomorrow?”

ROGER:  This is truth: I am so grateful to have a job, and I don’t take anything for granted.  I don’t think anybody is safe in this business.  I just don’t.  I just don’t think anybody gets to say that they’ve arrived.  I just did a roundtable, and I shared this with people who have a lot more clout and opportunity than I do – that actors are by nature, the good ones, are aware that every day that you get to go to work is a privilege, and don’t waste it.

Photo: JPI

In soaps, for the most part, when someone is stepping into someone else’s role as a recast, or actor who played one role is changing to another, there seems to be this reactionary period of adjustment, and then, there is acceptance from the audience over time … unless you really stink it up  … as you say. (Laughs)

ROGER:  Here’s the thing, and this is why I think this is such a great idea, it’s not about me playing this part, it’s about how Elizabeth, who has been on this show for twenty-something years gets to react to it, and giving her the ball.  It’s flashy that Franco is Drew, but it is really and Elizabeth/Kim story.  I may be the one overacting and stinking it up, but it’s theirs. Do you know what I mean?  It’s not my story.

Photo/ABC

What do you want to say to the fans about this new “role” you are taking on at General Hospital?

ROGER:  I want to say that I really do appreciate the fans.  Here is the thing, they’re down for everything.  I hope they’re down for this.  It’s a big ask, but I really hope that they like it.

So, what do you think of Roger as Andrew Cain thus far and how the storyline is beginning to take shape?  Are you excited to see how Franco becoming Drew (through the mind-mapping procedure) shakes up the canvas? Do you hope Drew returns to be Franco sooner than later? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Franco Looks In The Mirror … And Believing He Is Drew Kisses Kim

This week on General Hospital, viewers have seen that when Franco (Roger Howarth) awoke from his mind-mapping implantation  (thanks to Shiloh and Dr Cabot) he woke up saying that he is “Drew Cain”.  Thus, as far we know, Franco now carries the life and memories of Drew from 2012 and back, and as of now, has no trace of Franco’s memories.

When Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Drew (Billy Miller) try to make Franco understand in his confusion what transpired,  Liz brings a mirror to Franco to see his face, which makes this all the more terrifying for him.  Liz insists to him that she is wife, but he tells her that he is sorry but he does not recognize her.  Franco insists he is going to leave town and Drew asks him to please stay put, as Liz promises that they can reverse what happened to him.  But can Liz really promise that?

Later, Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) fills Sam (Kelly Monaco) and Jason (Steve Burton) in on what happened and how Franco now was implanted with Drew’s memories, which leaves them stunned.  That means Franco, who is one of the people Jason loathes most in the world – now believes he is Jason’t twin brother.

Meanwhile, as Kim (Tamara Braun) and Julian (William deVry) prepare to leave Port Charles for Manhattan and start live anew, (so Kim can not be haunted by her life in Port Charles from the recent death of her son, Oscar) things are about to make a shocking turn … for her.

Back at GH, Liz is upset when Franco decides he must get out of his hospital room.  Liz is scared he will just skip town knowing he feels he has no ties there.  Drew reassures her that because he is a version of him, the pull will be way too strong for him to exit Port Charles.

Kim is now at the hospital getting ready to turn in her resignation letter and runs into Franco.  He recognizes her and calls her “Kim!” You can tell he is quite smitten with her.  Kim is not sure why Franco is acting that way.  She announces she is leaving Port Charles to which he says he is going to come with her. She sees he has a hospital ID bracelet on, so she thinks something has happened.  Just then, Franco tells her about the first time Drew Cain and her met up! This shocks Kim  … and the next thing you know … he moves in for a major kiss and lip-lock as Drew and Liz look on.

Constance Towers Returns To GH As Helena Cassadine … But Just How Does She Appear?

Now, any General Hospital fan knows that if there is skullduggery and evil going down, Helena Cassadine (whether dead or alive) is usually somehow involved when it comes to the lives of certain people in Port Charles.

And … some major storyline news from TV Line reveals that on next Monday’s August 19th episode of the ABC soap opera, Constance Towers reprises her role as the evil one herself … Helena!

Apparently, look for Helena to appear in a flashback with none other than Shiloh (Coby Ryan McLaughlin) and about Drew Cain’s time in Afghanistan.  That scene might hold a key to just what Shiloh wants now that he has implanted Drew’s memories into Franco (Roget Howath), thanks to Dr. Cabot’s work.  But could what is revealed also relate to the story that will see Billy Miller (Drew) exit the canvas later this month? Stay tuned.

Viewers last saw Helena alive in story until November of 2016, but then she was part of Jake’s hallucinations that were a part of the chimera storyline that climaxed at the Nurses’ Ball back in May of 2017.

So what do you think Helena’s presence in a flashback will reveal? And, who is ultimately having that flashback? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
