As ‘The Price is Right’ Turns 50, Iconic Former Host, Bob Barker, Gets Nostalgic
This season marks the 50th anniversary season of the number one show in daytime, The Price is Right. The big 5-0 begins on September 15th when the game show returns on CBS with all-new episodes.
Since 2007, Drew Carey has taken on the hosting chores, but before that for 35 years, the one and only Bob Barker was at its helm and when you look back at everything Barker did from ‘Price’ to hosting ‘Miss Universe’ pageants he did it all with class.
Now PEOPLE on an issue on newsstand this week, spoke to Barker, now 97-years-old, about the iconic game show and his part in its history. Barker joked: “I’m often asked what I loved most about my years with Price, and the first thing that pops to mind is … the money, of course!” He went on to say, “All kidding aside, there was much to love. I had the pleasure of working with a dedicated and talented cast and crew for 35 great years. Particularly close to my heart was the ability our vast popularity gave me to remind our entire audience daily about the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.”

Drew Carey, who will start his 15th season as host, also clarified he never wanted to come off as a carbon copy of Barker, but put his own stamp as host: “I knew I could never be Bob, and I wasn’t going to try to be Bob. We went out to lunch, and his advice was, ‘Don’t try to copy me. Just make it your own show.'”
So, can you believe its been 50 years of The Price is Right? Do you miss Bob? Like Drew as host? Comment below.
One good thing about how times have changed in the last 50 years is that a predator and horrible person like Barker would most likely be fired now. His abhorrent behavior with the models is well-documented.
Thank you !! CBS paid a lot of money out which that is what is always about :sarcasm but at least these women spoke out immediately did not wait thirty years so yes I believed them ! He is a dirty old man and Drew is fifty times the man this pervert is !
Well thanks guys for breaking the bubble. I’d never heard these accusations about Bob, thought he was a wonderful man. Why can’t these damn men keep their hands, etc in their pants.?

Recently, Duell has launched a new side of himself under the musical name “Duelly” and has released two EDM-style tracks. In his new musical venture, Chad is said to primarily be the songwriter, producer and pianist on his tracks.
Previously, Chad stepped away from his Daytime Emmy-winning role as Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son after a nearly 15-year run. A decision he made towards the end of 2024. Viewers last saw his version of Michael on the January 21, 2025 episode where Michael was recovering from severe burns and injuries suffered in the penthouse explosion at Sonny’s. CHAD ON DECISION TO STEP AWAY FROM GENERAL HOSPITAL
Chad has previously sat down for a conversation on The Able Show seven months ago, where he doubled-down on his decision to walk away from General Hospital when he did. Duell explained, “I’m blessed to be part of that (show) for as long as I have. But what happens sometimes is if you’re doing the same thing, especially in a creative field for such a long time, you can get a little burnt out in a way. It can make you a little depressed, so that’s kind of what happened.”
Sadly, Duell suffered the devastating loss of his beloved father in 2024, which also was very difficult for him as he detailed, sharing, “On top of that, I had other things going on in my life at the time. My father passed away recently and I just needed a reset. So, I stepped away. A lot of times you have to go through some stuff to really step into that next level. I needed to kind of feel uncomfortable.”

Days Of Our Lives
B&B’s Don Diamont Recalls His Soap Start on ‘Days of Our Lives’ and Confrontation with Exec Prod Al Rabin (Exclusive ‘Soapy’ Preview)

Before Don Diamont was The Bold and the Beautiful’s Dollar Bill Spencer, or even The Young and the Restless’ Brad Carlton, he started his over four decades in soap operas over in Salem on Days of Our Lives as Carlo Forenza from 1984-1985. Now Diamont will talk about it all, when he is the special guest on the newest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig (Taylor, B&B) and Greg Rikaart (Leo, DAYS) dropping this coming Tuesday, August 18.
In this exclusive preview clip from Michael Fairman TV, Diamont recalls his humble beginnings at DAYS were pretty rocky, especially butting heads with then executive producer Al Rabin.
In story, Carlo was connected to the mob, and eventually was the business manager and friend to Liz Chandler (Gloria Loring). Liz was married to Dr. Neil Curtis (the late Joe Gallison), and became stranded on a deserted island with Carlo. Neil thought they had an affair, but then one night Carlo took advantage of Liz. Eventually Neil Curtis, accidentally shoots and kills Carlo with Carlo’s own gun during a mob confrontation (Neil had ties to the mob too).

ENTRY INTO SALEM GONE WRONG
Recalling his audition and first day on the set at DAYS, Diamont shared, “They’d gone through hundreds of people and they couldn’t find the guy to play this part, Carlo Forenza. I end up getting it. I go through the screen test and the whole bit. So, my first day, Al Rabin, the executive producer at the time, wanted to sit down and talk to me before I started shooting. I thought, ‘great.’ Now, I am beyond green at this point, and in our conversation, I asked him about publicity.”
Diamont says from there, things took a nosedive between the novice actor and the longtime producer: “That didn’t really sit well with him. I thought, ‘you’re the executive producer, you’re the person to ask.’ I probably should have talked to my agent before then about it, but I didn’t. So, Al said, ‘How about we just learn what we’re doing here first and then you can worry about that.”
In the moment, Don had a realization: “I think that kind of rubbed him the wrong way. Understandably. Fair enough. On my first day on the set, my character was being introduced in a party scene. So, all the stars of the show were on the set. I was very nervous. I walk in, and say whatever my lines are, and they stop tape. Al comes out of the booth onto the set, and calls me off the set about this. I will never forget it. He said, ‘I can take an actor who’s nervous. I can’t take an actor without energy. Get it together!”
GLORIA LORING ON WHAT HER RELATIONSHIP WITH DON DIAMONT MEANT TO HER
Days of Our Lives fans will recall that Gloria Loring and Don Diamont were also a couple in real-life for awhile. Loring told Michael Fairman TV back in 2012, that they were together for three years after her marriage to Alan Thicke fell apart, expressing, “Don came into my life and treated me with such kindness and respect, and paid attention to everything I was thinking or doing.”
Gloria added,”Don is a really nice man, and family is number one with him. He has really great qualities. I have been very blessed to have him and others in my life. When we parted, because he knew he had to go off and have a family of his own, because family was so important to him after the passing of his own father, I said, ‘What is the most important thing he gave me?’ I realized it was the respect and the attentiveness.I knew I had to start doing that for myself. It’s taken me a long time. I could still do better, but Don was an important person in that process.”

DON DIAMONT’S SOAP RESUME
After leaving Days of Our Lives in 1985, the late Bill Bell cast Diamont on The Young and the Restless as poolboy-turned-executive, Brad Carlton. Diamont had two runs on the soap from 1985 to 1996 and from 1998 t0 2009, before the character was killed-off. Next, Bill’s son, Brad Bell (executive producer and head writer of The Bold and the Beautiful) cast him in what would be his defining role on daytime television, that of Bill Spencer. It’s a role that he has played since 2009.
For past episodes from the ‘Soapy’ audio/video podcast series, find them via the Audacy app and the CBS brand YouTube channel. The podcast is produced by the Paramount Multiplatform Production Group, with Mike Benson serving as executive producer.
Now below, check out Don recalling his first meeting with Al Rabin, and first day on the set of Days of Our Lives when he was just 21-years-old.

‘General Hospital’s’ Maurice Benard Talks: New ‘Sonny’ Storyline, His Contract, and Three Characters He Would Want to See Back in Port Charles

Three-time Daytime Emmy-winner Maurice Benard teased what’s on deck for General Hospital’s Sonny Corinthos, his future with the soap opera, and just who he would love to see make a return, during an in-depth conversation with ESPN Radio New York host, Ty Butler.
Benard appeared this week on Butler’s You Tube channel, and it’s clear that Butler and his real-life family are deep fans of General Hospital, so he had some pointed questions for Maurice from what’s happening currently in Port Charles to look backs at Sonny’s past.
Now that Sonny has decided to get out of the mob, Benard teased what’s coming up for the apparent “former” mobster, “When (the writers) told me I was out of the mob it didn’t throw me. I was like, ‘let’s see what I can do here.’ There were a lot of people during the hey day of the gangster period (on GH), who did not like it. (They would say) ‘It’s too much Sonny, it’s too much violence.'”

WITH SONNY OUT OF THE MOB, WHAT’S NEXT?
However, the long-running GH mainstay added, “I don’t care what I’m doing as long as Sonny maintains power, and that power doesn’t mean killing people, or being a gangster. You can be powerful in business. You can be powerful over here, and I think they’re doing that. I do know the story (coming up) and I can’t say (much more), but it’s really amazing. When I heard about it, I said, “Oh, wow!”‘
This week, Maurice marks his 33rd anniversary in the role of Sonny. It’s a role he began back on-screen on August 13, 1993. But how many years might the popular star have left in the tank to remain in Port Charles? Maurice explained his position on that, “My contract is up February or March (2027). So up until then, I’ll just tell you guys that the upcoming story, I’m very happy with it.”
He added, “I’m not going to retire soon, but I’m at a certain point where I can retire if I wanted. But, I don’t want to as long as I’m happy at GH, and I’ve been happy at GH for a while now. So, they’re going have to kick me out. They’re going to have to say, “Nah, we’ve had enough. Get the hell out.”‘

HOW WOULD THE END COME FOR SONNY CORINTHOS IF MAURICE BENARD EVER EXITED GENERAL HOSPITAL?
During their conversation, Butler asked, if the time would come that Maurice were to make an exit from General Hospital, how would he like it to go down. The longtime GH star had an answer that if he were to leave, he should go out on a big cliffhanger. “Something happens to one of his children and it’s his fault. Sonny can’t take it,” explains Maurice on his Port Charles alter-ego. “He goes home, he takes a shot of whiskey. (Then), Sonny goes upstairs and all you hear is BOOM. And it goes to black. Now, if it were a movie, it would work. But let me tell you something … it’s a soap opera. You don’t know if Sonny did it! You don’t know if somebody else did it, set it all up to make him look like he did. You don’t know. So there’s a big story there, right?”
BLASTS FROM THE PAST
When asked by the ESPN radio host, what cast member would he like to see return to the show? Benard named three characters, and they are: Brenda (Vanessa Marcil), Luke (the late Anthony Geary, obviously that was stated as Benard misses him dearly) and Morgan (last played by Bryan Craig).
You can check out the full conversation with Maurice below on the The Ty Butler Show.
Now, let us know, what do you think is the new storyline that is about to kick-off, other than we know Sonny is getting out of the mob, and wants to get Sidwell’s assets and keep them away from Drew? Glad to hear Maurice does not plan on leaving General Hospital anytime soon? And, do you agree with Maurice … would you like to see the characters of Brenda and Morgan come back to the Port Charles canvas? Let us know via the comment section.
