Ah, remember the good ole days of Oakdale and the life of good gal gone bad, gone questionable, Emily Stewart?  We do too!  Kelley Menighan Hensley, who has been Daytime Emmy nominated for the role on As the World Turns, is back on television starting tonight!

In a brand new scripted television series called, Reality Show, Kelley stars in this  8-episode, darkly satirical series, which follows Mickey Wagner (Adam Rifkin), a down on his luck reality show producer, as he crafts a sensational comeback. Fed up with how staged and phony reality shows are, Mickey’s hatches a revolutionary idea to pick an average American family and put them under all-encompassing surveillance…without the family’s knowledge. T he concept is to let real life unfold before the cameras. However, the family is numbingly boring. And the studio wants more sizzle. So Mickey starts to introduce drama into the unwitting family’s lives. Temptation to cheat, drinking, work problems…. chaos ensues. Everything unravels in a big, big way with shocking consequences.

Hensley plays Katherine Warwick, who Kelley refers to in her blog as “insanely vanilla, crafty, sex deprived, and happy as can be.  Or is she?”  In addition, in a new conversation with CBS Soaps In Depth, Kelley revealed,  “It’s out there. I mean, I called my parents when I agreed to do it and I’m like, ‘I’m just preparing you that.. I’m not a hundred percent sure I want you to see all of it!'”

After the jump, take a look at the teaser for Reality Show and if you have Showtime let us know if you will be tuning into the season premiere of it tonight at 11:30PMEST/PST?

Well, the trailer has peaked my interest enough that I would be willing to check it out. I loved KMH on ATWT, so it would be great to see her in another role.

It’s a rip off of The Truman Show!!!

I love Kelley and wish her lots of success (her brunette hair looks good!). I still wish she got the part on GH she was up for (either nuKate or that woman in white…better if it was nuKate). I won’t be following this new thing though. I’d rather watch the movie.

I had no idea Kelley was up for a part on GH! I hope she’s successful in this.

When was she ever up for Kate Howard? That wouldn’t have worked!

google “Kelley Menighan Hensley General Hospital” and it’s the 6th link down. It doesn’t say for what role she was up for, but I remember at the time there was a discussion on soapcentral and it became clear it was one of those 2 roles (maybe she made a comment on her twitter or something that made it clearer, I’m not sure. All I know is her fans were).

LOL Jules I hardly call that confirmation she was up for a role on GH from a fan forum. Those rumours surround that show like crazy. KMH never even discussed Twitter around that time. Plus, her and Jon weren’t even in LA until after Kate returned to the series.

Good for her…. I loved ATWT… and Emily and Dr. Susan… were always watched… by me… I guess… i always rooted for the underdog…. the put upon, misunderstood… winsome, twosome… single mother and daughter… made it…. till the end of oakdale….

didn’t Kelley Menighan do it all… and GOOD…. she married Holden! (Jon Hensley) how good is that….

I hope the show succeeds.

As the World Turns Alum Rita Walter Dead at 71

We’re still losing so many beloved soap opera actors as 2022 comes to a close. Now comes word that former As the World Turns alum, Rita Walter (nee McLaughlin) passed away at the age of 71.  Walter had been diagnosed with Multifocal Glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of terminal brain cancer.

Rita had an 11-year-run as Oakdale’s Carol Deming Hughes Stallings Andropoulos Frazier.

The former actress-turned-optician, died on Christmas.  Rita’s brother, David McLaughlin revealed the news on the 26th which also happened to be the anniversary of Walter’s exit from the defunct CBS soap opera in 1981.

In his posting on Facebook, McLaughlin shared: “My sweet, loving sister Rita was called to Jesus today on Christmas day, his birthday. She was a well known actress as well as dedicated server of the Lord Jesus. May you rest in peace Sis, I love you forever. You’ve taken my heart with you.”

Before playing good girl, Carol Deming, who always found herself in distress as only a good heroine could do, Rita started her career as Patty Duke’s double on The Patty Duke Show, before getting her first foray into soaps with a role on The Secret Storm as Wendy Phillips.

We clearly remember when on ATWT, Carol was married to Jay Stallings, but Jay was having an affair behind her back. Carol also had failed relationships and marriages to Tom Hughes and Steve Andropolous.  Eventually, Carol left Oakdale after falling in love and marrying Reverend Norman Frazier.  In a case of life imitating art, Rita married Reverend Normal Walter in 1976.

Walter is survived by her three children, Brian, Jill, and Amy, and her husband, Reverend Norman.
