As previously reported, kicking off today, is a two-part Beyond the Gates, when The Duprees gather to celebrate Banneker University’s homecoming weekend.

The producers and writers are taking an opportunity to spotlight the rich traditions of the long-held tradition of attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) through its fictional university.

The episodes are today on CBS and stream on Paramount+ on Friday, October 2 and next week on Monday, October 5, where in true Beyond the Gates fashion, there will be some surprising drama that ensues when someone shows up!

BANNEKER REFLECTS THE IMPORTANCE OF HBCUS

Sheila Duckworth, (executive producer, Beyond the Gates) spoke to Soaps.com to give some insight on the decision for the series to illustrate the ties that bind with HBCUs.

“It was important that we have this school as almost a character on our canvas, right from the beginning. Beyond even education, HBCUs have been pivotal when it comes to everything from economic progression and fostering a sense of community to the development of leadership skills,” explained Ducksworth. “From the beginning, we wanted to illustrate that what the Duprees are able to do in the world was a direct reflection of the impact HBCU’s have in real life.”

EVERYTHING HAS ITS PURPOSE

The EP talked about how purposeful the elements that integrate Banneker into the overall story of Beyond the Gates are including: the Dupree family door knocker that is a lion, the mascot for the fictional university, plus, the upcoming fight song that the cast will sing together on the Monday, October 5 episode, and the painting the hangs at Fairmont Crest.

That portrait of Vernon Dupree’s (Clifton Davis) father, George Cheeks Dupree, that hangs prominently at the country club, was named after CBS executive George Cheeks (now Chairman of TV and Media, Paramount), and as Ducksworth says of the legacy of Vernon’s father, “He was the architect of Fairmont Crest.”

So, are you looking forward to these episodes honoring HBCU traditions with the Dupree and the Richardson clans? What surprises do you think might be in store come next week? Let us know via the comment section below.

Love it, but why not celebrate HBCU for a complete week !

Love, Love.

I am truly a die-hard fan and can’t wait for whatever comes from BTG. Thanks to EVERYONE who did this wonderful show and is doing everything possible classy, true to the culture and down right soulful. Tell Joey to holla at a sister. BTG is the best. I love it.

Maybe a surprise visit from the Obamas !!

Today’s celebrations were so much fun. Cannot wait to see it continue next week.

I absolutely love the series. I am so proud that the show is celebrating HbCUs

I attended the Real HU, Howard so hearing the cast call BU, U Know is classic for HBCU , Howard. Just ask Kamala Harris amoung others.

I’m also a Howard U Alumni, I caught the BU U Know. I saw some of the comments after Friday’s episode from a few who have no Idea what an HBCU Homecoming Celebration involves & the ties it binds of the past, present & future. It’s an Experience like no other, HBCU Pride shines bright here!!!!

I think it’s a wonderful idea! I recently saw Andre’ Richardson and Eva Thomas at the Great Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. They looked fabulous!! I also saw them enjoying the “Hornet Walk” with Alabama State University Hornets’ Football Team. It gave the students, alumnus, and fans an all time high to witness them enjoying the ASU hospitality!

Love the show. I do tape it to make sure I don’t miss it in case I have something else going on at that time. It’s clean and polished. Love the fact that they are honoring the HBCU’s. I never knew that information, so gives us information to give to our grandchildren

Love it!! Great move!! Can’t wait for Monday, October 5th!! Excellent soap!! Great job Ms Duckworth!!

BTG’s is an Awesome Dynamic Soap full of Drama, Inspiration, Culture, Love, & the wild side of the UnderWorld. Which brings our attention of what’s going on, or what’s going to happen next? Keep us on our toes & I like that because this what’s makes it look real. Especially when the right characters are playing the part & know how to Act the part, keep up the great work of BTG’s. I think the surprise is going to be The Obamas, or Someone like Mr. Al Sharpton

I just love this show and what it represents in such a classy way.

Absolutely outstanding new soap opera and Thanks for sharing our Black Excellents

Outstanding new soap opera. Love it.

Great new soap opera. Love i

Awesome soap opera.

I am excited about watching the Banneker Homecoming on beyond the gates. Coming from an HBCU myself it will be interesting how BTG will portray the close connection that graduates from and HBCU have with their classmates and the school itself.

I watch Beyond The Gates each day that it’s on. I like the show. What I don’t like are reruns of the show on Holidays. I think the story lines go on way too long. Hailey poisoned Bill for close to two years. The poison only started to take affect close to the end of the discovery. When Hailey made her one phone call. I had hoped the police would redial the number to see who she called. Oh well. The character Danni and her husband Andre’ solve all of their disagreements with sex. They went on a honeymoon and pretty much stayed in their hotel room the entire time. After Bill and Danni in the elevator I wish Danni would have gotten pregnant and made a huge announcement at the Grands home. Only for Andre and Uncle Ted to tell her in front of the entire family that Andre can’t have children. Why? He experienced a terrible bicycle accident as a boy. Please retire the singing group After they had the concert honoring Barbra. I wished that would have been the end of them and the group’s name never mentioned again. Anita’s stage four cancer was cured faster than it too Bill’s s poisoning of almost two years to take affect. You have a new story about a Plasma Ring and a Impaler. What happened to the saga about what Leslie did with the motorcycle? Bill’s daughter kidnapper was brought back into the story? Why? When is Joey going to be found out for killing Doug? The cast gets larger and larger. Chaniece’s Aunt, Nicole’s lover, Joey”s sister. My guess is Kat and Isaiah are headed to the bedroom. The nurses and Bill are pretty much the only ones that you see at work. Martin is never at work. Isaiah is never seen at the college. Nicole is never seen with a client. Ted is never busy with work. He just walks around all day. All of them stay at the two restaurants, the clubhouse or the Grands home. I would like to see Bill in the courtroom arguing every now and again. Who are Bill’s family members? Sister? Brothers? Cousins? Who are his people? Let’s meet them. Do they get along with Vernon and Anita? How did Danni get on with them and they her? May I suggest eliminate some characters and end some of the storylines. I would really like to see Leslie’s face if she swiped her card and it was declined . She spends her Inheritance money like pouring water through a sifter? Oh well. God willing I will be tuning in on Monday because despite what I wrote above I do like the show.

Llesie is Vernon sister or daughter

I’m so proud that BTG decided to honor HBCU’s to show our culture and traditions among black American families when generations attend the same HBCU showing pride and possibility for our youth and all they.can accomplish, I only wish this was a full week of episodes about our universities and just how important they are for our community of future graduates.

I absolutely love the show

Love this show so much!!! I hope Dani And Andre stay together

THE 411 ON TIA AND KALISTA

Speaking with TV Insider, about their soapy experience in Fairmont Crest, Tabitha Brown previewed about her host with the most, “Tia is very professional, but she’s a girl’s girl. She is a protector of women and wants to tell their stories in a beautiful way, but she also wants to make sure they’re seen in a very good light.”

However, Burruss previews that Kalista arrives with a score to settle. “She’s spicy,” shared the recording artist. “I always love playing somebody that has come to start trouble. It’s always fun to play a villain of sorts, but Kalista feels like she’s been done wrong and she’s hurt by what she feels has been done to her. So Kalista is stirring up trouble, but she feels justified putting Dani on blast. Kalista is ready for some payback.”

Beyond the Gates is produced by CBS Studios, as part of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. Created by head writer Michele Val Jean, executive producers include Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey.

Beyond the Gates is broadcast weekdays on CBS (2:00-3:00 PM, ET/1:00-2:00 PM, PT) and is available to stream on Paramount+**.

Now, Marquita Goings will visit the Michael Fairman Channel for a livestream chat on Thursday, October 22 beginning at 7pm ET/4pm PT and you can join us with your questions!

Previously in story, Hayley has racked up some pretty despicable acts and crimes thus far which have included, trying to poison and kill Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) for his life insurance in order to cash in and hightail it out of Fairmont Crest with the moolah.

Then, let’s not forget using the recordings she obtained to blackmail everyone with the the secret that Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis) and Martin Richardson (Brandon Claybon) have been trying to keep under wraps about the hate crime years ago, which saw Martin kill one man, while another later died, in an effort to save his grandfather.

NEXT WEEK ON BEYOND THE GATES

Now, the week of October 19-23 previews that it appears that Hayley may be pregnant (take a look at the video preview below) with Bill’s child when she gets a little queasy, after she went to see her partner in crime, Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) to get a fresh ID to skip out of town and away from the DMV.

In fact, on the Tuesday, October 20 episode, official BTG spoilers indicate, Vernon assures Dani (Karla Mosley) that he’s got things handled, while Hayley’s ready for her next act, while on the Friday, October 23 episode, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) has devastating words for Hayley and Bill’s got another thing coming.

If you have a question for Marquita but cannot join us for the live broadcast, drop it in the comment section and we just might ask it during the chat.
