‘Beyond the Gates’ Creator Michele Val Jean Reveals the One Cast Member She Would Have Loved to Have On Her Show
It’s hard to believe that today marks the seven-year anniversary of the death of two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Kristoff St. John. The former star of Generations and The Young and the Restless passed away on February 3, 2019 from accidental hypertrophic heart disease, exacerbated by alcohol use.
It should not be discounted the impact St. John had on the daytime world as one of its all-time leading Black actors. He won critical praise for his long-running role as Neil Winters as Y&R, a part he played for over 27 years, which began in 1991 with his last on-screen appearance in 2019, shortly before his death. Before that, Kristoff played the leading younger male of Generations, Adam Marshall, from 1989-1991.
Generations was the forebearer to Beyond the Gates. At that time, Generations was the first soap to have a Black family as its lead characters. The half-hour soap aired on NBC. It should also be noted that Beyond the Gates creator, executive producer and head writer, Michele Val Jean also wrote for the soap.

Now, coming full-circle with having her own show on CBS, an hour-long Black-led groundbreaking daytime show in its second season, she reflected on the loss of St. John and honored him with a very touching post on Instagram on Tuesday.
Standing side by side with Kristoff in a photo, Michele expressed, “Such a loss. I still miss him. Would have loved to have had that full circle moment of him on #BeyondTheGates Rest in power, Kristoff ”
Oh, what a moment that would have been! We bet Kristoff would have loved an opportunity to appear on Beyond the Gates or at least crossover from Y&R, if he was not lured over to the show by the talented Val Jean.
Jumping into her Instagram thread in memory of Kristoff were: Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree, BTG) who shared, “Me too, Michele. And I feel him in and through all of this” Sharing heartfelt emojis were Tracey Bregman (Lauren Fenmore Baldwin, Y&R) and Brandon Claybon (Martin Richardson, BTG).
So, share your remembrances for Kristoff St. John on the anniversary of his passing, and let us know, would you have loved to see him in a role on ‘Beyond the Gates’ and the chance to collaborate again with Michele Val Jean? Let us know in the comment section.

Honestly, Kristoff would have been an amazing addition to have on Beyond the Gates, and I have a strong feeling he would have been there in a heartbeat for Michele! I really do.
I can’t believe it’s been seven years since his passing. It’s funny, I ran across of picture of him and Bryton James online last night, not knowing it’s the anniversary. He is still missed.

THE 411 ON TIA AND KALISTA
Speaking with TV Insider, about their soapy experience in Fairmont Crest, Tabitha Brown previewed about her host with the most, “Tia is very professional, but she’s a girl’s girl. She is a protector of women and wants to tell their stories in a beautiful way, but she also wants to make sure they’re seen in a very good light.”
However, Burruss previews that Kalista arrives with a score to settle. “She’s spicy,” shared the recording artist. “I always love playing somebody that has come to start trouble. It’s always fun to play a villain of sorts, but Kalista feels like she’s been done wrong and she’s hurt by what she feels has been done to her. So Kalista is stirring up trouble, but she feels justified putting Dani on blast. Kalista is ready for some payback.”
Beyond the Gates is produced by CBS Studios, as part of the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble. Created by head writer Michele Val Jean, executive producers include Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Tracey Thomson, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey.
Beyond the Gates is broadcast weekdays on CBS (2:00-3:00 PM, ET/1:00-2:00 PM, PT) and is available to stream on Paramount+**.
