BEYOND THE GATES: A Car Crash and a Reveal as the Duprees Prepare to Stare Down Bill and Hayley at their Wedding
Wednesday, February 26th marked the third episode of CBS daytime’s newest drama, Beyond the Gates, and the story picked up revealing several new twists as the show builds towards a major cliffhanger by Friday.
In story, Dani (Karla Mosley) is on the warpath and shows up at Bill’s (Timon Kyle Durrett) law firm and his office with a golf club and clears the room with it and his desk. Next, she slaps him in the face. She wants answers – such as why he would dare bring his “whore,” Hayley (Marquita Goings) into Fairmont Crest, when he could live anywhere else. She reminds her ex, that if it was not for her, he would never have made his way beyond the gates.
Bill tries to explain he fell in love with someone else and their love died along time ago even before Hayley came into the picture. Dani says she looked the other way every time he cheated on her because she loved him. No matter what Dani had to say, Bill could care less. He tells Dani you can hit me, but if you ever hit Hayley again there will be consequences. As Dani storms out, she sees Hayley and just before she gets into the elevator she hopes Hayley understands, “past is prologue.” When the elevator door closes, Hayley breaks down in tears.

At the mansion, Anita (Tamara Tunie) and Vernon (Clifton Davis) decide that they must continue to protect Martin (Brandon Claybon) at all costs, and take Bill Hamilton’s threats seriously. They decide they must all attend Bill and Hayley’s wedding as a united front, and are calling an emergency family meeting ASAP to tell them their decision.
Martin is with his husband Smitty (Mike Manning) at their place. He is having bad dreams again and Smitty wakes him up. Smitty thinks something happened that Martin doesn’t want to remember. Martin gets pissed at the comment and gets a text to attend an emergency family meeting at the Duprees.
At Nicole’s (Daphnee Duplaix) office, Andre (Sean Freeman) enters and he talks about filming Ted (Maurice Johnson) and Nicole for the prestigious award she is receiving. Kat (Colby Muhammad) thinks her parents should tell their story to add a personal touch to Andre’s video. Next, a more somber Andre thanks his aunt and uncle for helping him through the difficult times when his parents were killed in a plane crash.

While Dani’s life spins out of control, her daughters Chelsea (RhonniRose Mantilla) and Naomi (Arielle Prepetit) have a chat, where Chelsea reveals she wants to stop modeling and focus on other projects, but is worried about telling their mom, who will be displeased, especially given that Dani – a former high fashion model herself – is helping Chelsea get her modeling career off the ground.
At the local diner, Orphey Gene’s: Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant), Jan (Jerri Tubbs) and Mona (Karan Kendrick) are having lunch. Leslie is distracted as a man walks by that reminds her (of what we think is her late husband), Alan, who left a hole in her heart. The three dish the scandal at Fairmont Crest with Dani having her ex-husband and daughter’s ex-best friend getting married at the country club. Leslie asks about Nicole and Mona tells her that Nicole and Ted are as happy as can be.

Everyone is getting texts messages in the Dupree family to meet for the emergency meeting. When they all arrive, Anita and Vernon enter the room and Dani asks why they are all there. Anita tries to speak, but Dani interrupts saying she’s heading to Paris to avoid Bill and Hayley’s nuptials. Vernon says she can’t go, and Anita says she needs Dani in town until Friday. Anita says “We’re going.” Dani says,“No!” Anita says they are Duprees and if Bill is willing to marry that “heifer” in Fairmont Crest, he will need to do it staring the entire family in the face. As Dani starts to leave, Vernon tries his best to explain to his daughter to trust him on this one.

Its getting SO good already! Karla Mosely is STEALING the show as Dani! I love Anita and Vernon too! Hayley is a classic mistress and I even love-to-hate Bill! The younger actors will grow into their roles. Please give this cast time to gel. Michele Val Jean is writing this soap and Bob Guza is producing. We are in GOOD hands.
My ONLY gripe is to tone down the lighting. It makes it seem more like a stage play instead of watching a soap. But i am thoroughly enjoying BTG so far! MORE PLEASE!
Absolutely love it
Love it as there are so many plots to explore and the main cast is African American!
I like the entire cast and the storylines. Mystery and intrigue. My favorites are Martin, Smitty, Nicole, Dani, Hayley, Andre, Vernon, Bill, Anita, Ashley, Ashley’s mother, Nicole’s daughter, Dani’s daughters, woman in white going to choir rehearsal, Laura, the realtor, and Leslie whom I knew I’d love from the preview interviews. Not sure about the firefighter. I even liked the scene with the two men in the car.
First I thought Martin could be Hayley’s father. But I think Martin was involved with the plane crash where Andre’s parents died. Martin could have been the pilot or a passenger who walked away and didn’t help the parents.
I am hoping that BtG doesn’t become Y&R and B&B with long conversations about the same topics and constant praise of certain characters and relationships.
Am loving this show already.I know a lot of the stars from other shows, but have not really formed any real favorite characters yet.Am thinking Bill is the biggest jerk, in a mid- life crisis, giving up a real life and marriage for that little Bimbo girl. Too many other interesting things to comment on now.
I am so disappointed in this show. Here was a chance to do something fresh and new and instead they just followed the traditional cookie-cutter soap formula. The same formula that has sent viewers away and had shows canceled. I’m not surprised after I read that the production team are soap veterans. What an opportunity this could have been for a show based in reality, with characters people could relate to, who had real problems. Instead, everything is over the top. I hope this isn’t the nail in the coffin for any chance for more soaps to premiere. Yes, I understand that there is an audience for what they are presenting but I doubt it’s a young audience or those new to soaps.
I think you are being not only pessimistic but critical of a show that has only been on a few days. I think most of us knew it was going to be another Soap . We have enough “reality”shows already, and most of them are phony and what shows are you referring to as being cancelled, with viewers being sent away? Sorry to disagree with your whole critique, but this is exactly the Soap I wanted and am enjoying thoroughly!
They don’t hire amateurs to work on soap operas.
So we successfully got Beyond The Gates to air on HellCable. It’s entertaining so far, but would a Devil be jumping to conclusions if I thought there might be a murder mystery coming very early on this show.
Becaue everybody seems to really hate this Bill guy. Including his own kids. Should we expect to see him down here in Hell soon?
Why don’t Vernon and Anita never kiss on the lips on the show
