Beyond the Gates has already a one-two punch for the 2026 Daytime Emmy competition for the Outstanding Daytime Drama Series, after the airing of Monday’s May 5th episode and the previous Friday cliffhanger on May 2nd. And if you thought the drama wasn’t going to be as intense, shocking and emotional on yesterday’s show you were mistaken. It was great “soap opera” in the best usage of the term.

Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant), who shattered Ted (Maurice Johnson) and Nicole’s (Daphnee Duplaix) marriage with her pronouncement that she and Ted had an affair years ago and he fathered her daughter, Eva (Ambyr Michelle), is now at the Duprees. Already the town viper, Leslie is confronted by Martin (Brando Claybon) who she calls the “little brownie man.” Years go, Ted would meet Leslie at the diner she was working at and apparently dragged his son, along as the cover and excuse to see her. After Martin storms out, Leslie provides the Duprees DNA test results proving Eva is Ted’s daughter.

As for the end game, Leslie wants Eva to have a connection with her family and to be treated like a princess. She explains how Eva never had access to anything they had and deserves the world. With that, she sets to head out until Anita (Tamara Tunie) tells her off. Anita says Leslie should be ashamed of herself as a mother for how she used her daughter for her own vendetta, by using her as a weapon and her public display at Ted and Nicole’s anniversary party.

Meanwhile, Nicole has it out with Ted, completely shattered over the man she married with whom she thought she was his one and only. Now, she comes to find out while she was going through the most difficult time in her life miscarrying, and trying to get pregnant, he was sleeping with another woman, She wonders if Ted grieved her miscarriages from Leslie’s bed. Nicole lashes out at him saying Leslie nor Eva is the problem. Ted’s actions caused all this. Nicole really goes in on him when she says Ted had the audacity to pull in Bill Hamilton to fix his mess. An angry Nicole says Ted trusted that bottom feeder more than his own wif!. Eventually, Nicole kicks Ted to the curb, and he goes to live at the country club, but for how long is unknown.

Back at the country club, Eva produces the DNA test results to Kat (Colby Muhammed), proving they are half-sisters. Kat lays the smackdown on Eva for the fact that she did nothing to stop her mother. Eva says she tried to stop what happened, but Kat tells her that she thinks she is a toxic parasite. Eva tries to explain she grew up thinking her father hated her and threw her away. She just now found out the truth that Ted never knew she existed. Eva knows Kat is furious but she begs her not to let what happened destroy how Kat feels about their father. Kat tells Eva she could have stopped Leslie, but chose to go forward with this evil plan. Kat says Eva is dead to her. Once Kat exits, Eva breaks down in tears.

Martin goes home and is so upset he tears the bookcase apart as Smitty (Mike Manning) comes on to the scene. Smitty tries to calm his husband down before their kids return home, as Martin is horrified at what he learned about his father and Leslie.

Anita takes to the piano and sings “Amazing Grace” as the Duprees surround her. As she sings, we go to multiple scenes, including Kat coming home to Nicole and holding her mother, while she cries, and the piece de resistance and shocking ending. Eva heads back to the apartment she lives in with Leslie, but Leslie has the chain lock on the door. Eva screams for her mother to let her in, but Leslie coldly stands inside sipping some wine and not moving an inch.

Bravo to Ambyr Michelle and Daphnee Duplaix in this one who carried the emotional weight of the scenes throughout.

What did you think of the ending of Monday’s Beyond the Gates and the scenes throughout the episode? Comment below. But first, check out this portion of the fallout between Nicole and Ted.

My heart broke for Eva when Dana coldly deadbolted her out of her only home. Truly despicable behaviour and amazing acting by Ambyr Michelle (Eva).

It wasn’t Dana who deadbolted Eva out it was Leslie, her mother.

The naysayers can say what they want, but this is great soap! If you haven’t checked it out or you are basing it on episode, you are missing a lot!

Emmy for Best Daytime Drama … Definitely. How about a sweep for all the categories!? Clearly best writing.

I would award ties for best actress (Daphnee Duplaix, Tamara Tunie, Karla Mosley) and best supporting actress (Colby Mohammed, Ambyr Michelle, Trisha Mann-Grant). And we’re just beginning to see the depth of the actresses who play Naomi, Chelsea, and Vanessa. Just give the best actor award today to Clifton Davis: no one else could master the role of Vernon as he has). And so many great men for supporting actor.

Michael Fairman has a tough job ahead for his end of year “bests”.

Ashley Jones is the newest addition of CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates.  The veteran soap actress has posted some teasey Instagran stories revealing the intel; especially her latest wearing a Beyond the Gates emblazoned robe while in her dressing room.

As to who Jones is playing that is still hush-hush. Ashley follows other former daytime notables to Fairmont Crest which have included Greg Vaughan (ex-DAYS, Y&R, GH) and Jordi Vilasuso (ex-Y&R, AMC, DAYS and GL).

A spokesperson for Beyond the Gates confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest expressing, “We can confirm Ashley Jones will be appearing in Beyond the Gates.” It should be noted: Beyond the Gates does tape four months ahead of air.

Soap fans first met Ashley when she played Megan Dennison on The Young and the Restless (1997-2000). She then went on to The Bold and the Beautiful to play Bridget Forrester in her initial run from 2004-2010 and since then making recurring appearances throughout the next 15 years. In addition, Jones appeared on General Hospital in the role of Parker Forsyth from 2016-17.

Earlier this week, Beyond the Gates was renewed for two more consecutive seasons its 3 and 4th by CBS, giving the youngest soap on the air, a big confidence boost. The series debuted back on February 24, 2025 as the first hour-long Black-led soap opera, and which tapes in Atlanta, Georgia instead of Los Angeles, California.

CBS Renews ‘Beyond the Gates’ for Seasons 3 and 4

Congratulations are in order for daytime’s newest drama series, Beyond the Gates. Today on April 15, the soap opera was officially renewed by CBS for two more seasons, its 3 and 4th.

The network revealed the renewal pick-up at a press briefing led by CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach. That show of faith takes the soap through the 2027-2028 television and streaming season, while the soap currently continues to air its second season.

Beyond the Gates creator, head writer and executive producer, Michele Val Jean took to X following the news of the pick-up and expressed her gratitude, sharing, “So this happened. Thank you to everyone involved, from the network to the crew, for the support, belief, hard work and dedication everyone has poured into this show. Beyond grateful.”

While Deadline was the first to break the news of the young soap opera’s latest accomplishment, Val Jean clarified that Tracey Thomson who is listed at the bottom of the article as one of the series executive producers along with Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey, is more than that.

Val Jean explained Thomson’s full involvement with Beyond the Gates, noting, “A credit egregiously missing on this article is Tracey Thomson’s. She’s been by my side cranking out these shows since episode 150. We just did 400. She’s my partner, my co-head writer and an executive producer and she deserves all the credit.”

Beyond the Gates is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, DC, in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

The cast is led by the Duprees played by Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, and Daphnee Duplaix along with Brandon Claybon, Mike Manning, Trisha Mann-Grant, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Nixon, Arielle Prepetit, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, RhonniRose Mantilla, Keith D. Robinson. Jon Lindstrom, and more round out the cast.

So, excited to hear Beyond the Gates is keeping on keepin’ on with two more seasons coming your way after the completion of its current season? Let us know via the comment section. But first, check out our recent conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel with series stars Tamara Tunie, Sean Freeman, Clifton Davis and EP Sheila Ducksworth via the comment section below .
