Beyond the Gates in its short history has delivered consistently when it comes to big reveals, and on the Wednesday, July 16th episode, we finally learned what happened to Martin (Brandon Claybon) that has caused all of this nightmares, the secret cover-ups, and why he decided to keep his husband Smitty (Mike Manning) completely in the dark about the whole thing which will not bode well for the aspiring politician.

After being prepared to tell-all at a pre-arranged press conference, we learn that Kenny (Jason Vendryes)was killed in a “hit” in a “robbery gone wrong,” but this was all to take the guy out from incriminating Martin, and from the looks of it, Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett), Joey (Jon Lindstrom) and Vernon (Clifton Davis) were all in it on it.  Once Martin learns the threat is gone, he still decided to unburden himself and fess the truth to his husband when he comes home.

Fit to be tied, Smitty wants answers. The children, Samantha (Najah Jackson) and Tyrell (Jaden Lucas Miller) head upstairs so their two fathers can hash this out. Once alone, Martin begins to flashback to a fateful night two years when he and Vernon were driving home from a political event, and Martin took a wrong turn and then got a flat tire. After he got out of the car, a truck pulled up revealing two white men looking for trouble. They offered to “help” Martin, but from the looks of it, they were going to harm him and his grandfather.

Next, a fight ensued and when one of the men got physical with Vernon, Martin snapped! He repeatedly hit one of the men over the head with crowbar till his death, while other guy was left unconscious.  Martin confessed to Smitty, “I killed a man, and I snuffed his life like it was nothing. And the other, what I did to his face, I see it in my nightmares. It was awful, and that’s why I couldn’t tell you.”

Then the dots further became connected for Smitty, when Martin recalled, Malone (Darryl W. Handy) with Chief Hawthorne (Malachi Malik) showing up. As for taking care of the witness and the body, that’s where Joey Armstrong got involved! Next, Martin reveals the biggest shocker and threat to his family. Kenny was the other guy who got beat that night and Dr. Ted Richardson (Keith D. Robinson) was called in to give him plastic surgery. He was given money to start a new life overseas. However, he has been back in town and admits to Smitty that Kenny has been blackmailing him for weeks, and he did not know it was him because he had a new face!

Smitty is livid that Martin put their family in danger for weeks and did not tell him what was going on, but Martin says he did not want to involve the safety of his children if something went south. Martin says the worst thing of the entire situation is that he was not honest with his husband, and he apologizes to Smitty, who is not having it.

Smitty kicks Martin out of the house, because as long as he is being targeted, it isn’t safe to have him at their house. However, Martin admits to Smitty that Kenny is dead, so there is no current threat.

I knew it was bad, but wow, I was surprised it was way worse than what my imagination was thinking!! Wow, what an episode this was. The writers carefully and skillfully wrote this episode. The directors did a fabulous job with the dialogue and making sure that everything was laid bare.

Again, what an episode!!

Ashley Jones is the newest addition of CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates.  The veteran soap actress has posted some teasey Instagran stories revealing the intel; especially her latest wearing a Beyond the Gates emblazoned robe while in her dressing room.

As to who Jones is playing that is still hush-hush. Ashley follows other former daytime notables to Fairmont Crest which have included Greg Vaughan (ex-DAYS, Y&R, GH) and Jordi Vilasuso (ex-Y&R, AMC, DAYS and GL).

A spokesperson for Beyond the Gates confirmed the news to Soap Opera Digest expressing, “We can confirm Ashley Jones will be appearing in Beyond the Gates.” It should be noted: Beyond the Gates does tape four months ahead of air.

Soap fans first met Ashley when she played Megan Dennison on The Young and the Restless (1997-2000). She then went on to The Bold and the Beautiful to play Bridget Forrester in her initial run from 2004-2010 and since then making recurring appearances throughout the next 15 years. In addition, Jones appeared on General Hospital in the role of Parker Forsyth from 2016-17.

CBS Renews ‘Beyond the Gates’ for Seasons 3 and 4

Congratulations are in order for daytime’s newest drama series, Beyond the Gates. Today on April 15, the soap opera was officially renewed by CBS for two more seasons, its 3 and 4th.

The network revealed the renewal pick-up at a press briefing led by CBS Entertainment President, Amy Reisenbach. That show of faith takes the soap through the 2027-2028 television and streaming season, while the soap currently continues to air its second season.

Beyond the Gates creator, head writer and executive producer, Michele Val Jean took to X following the news of the pick-up and expressed her gratitude, sharing, “So this happened. Thank you to everyone involved, from the network to the crew, for the support, belief, hard work and dedication everyone has poured into this show. Beyond grateful.”

While Deadline was the first to break the news of the young soap opera’s latest accomplishment, Val Jean clarified that Tracey Thomson who is listed at the bottom of the article as one of the series executive producers along with Sheila Ducksworth, Julie Carruthers, Leon W. Russell, Derrick Johnson, Anna Saalfeld and Lela Coffey, is more than that.

Val Jean explained Thomson’s full involvement with Beyond the Gates, noting, “A credit egregiously missing on this article is Tracey Thomson’s. She’s been by my side cranking out these shows since episode 150. We just did 400. She’s my partner, my co-head writer and an executive producer and she deserves all the credit.”

Beyond the Gates is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, DC, in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States; a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.

The cast is led by the Duprees played by Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Karla Mosley, and Daphnee Duplaix along with Brandon Claybon, Mike Manning, Trisha Mann-Grant, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Nixon, Arielle Prepetit, Sean Freeman, Timon Kyle Durrett, RhonniRose Mantilla, Keith D. Robinson. Jon Lindstrom, and more round out the cast.

So, excited to hear Beyond the Gates is keeping on keepin’ on with two more seasons coming your way after the completion of its current season? Let us know via the comment section. But first, check out our recent conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel with series stars Tamara Tunie, Sean Freeman, Clifton Davis and EP Sheila Ducksworth via the comment section below .
