There are more changes afoot in the writers’ room at CBS daytime’s newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates, Veteran scribe, Ron Carlivati has confirmed in a statement that he has exited the show as one of its main breakdown writers.

Carlivati joined the Beyond the Gates writing team shortly after departing Days of our Lives in April of 2024 as its head writer. Since, Ron worked with Beyond the Gates creator, Michele Val Jean (while they both were writing for General Hospital) she had wanted him to join her new writing team for the new soap.

Taking to his Instagram story, Ron expressed: “A quick career update from me: I recently wrapped my stint as a writer on Beyond the Gates, the hot new soap opera on CBS created by the incomparable Michele Val Jean.”

Ron went on to share the back-story of how he came on to help the new soap have a successful launch, adding, “When Michele called last August and asked me to join her team, I jumped at the chance to be a part of the launch of this groundbreaking and historic show. After recently finishing Season One (200 episodes!), I decided to leave to pursue other projects, but I am beyond proud of what we accomplished and beyond grateful to Michele and to Executive Producer Sheila Ducksworth for this extraordinary opportunity. Wishing them and everyone at Beyond the Gates a long and successful run.”

Carlivati is a two-time Daytime Emmy-winning and WGA Award-winning veteran writer of the soaps. Before joining Beyond the Gates, he served for seven years as the head writer for Days of our Lives. He also served as the head writer for General Hospital from 2012-2015, and was the co-head writer for One Live to Live from 2007-2008, and then as the series sole head writer from 2o08-2012 prior to the beloved series coming to its conclusion on ABC.

Beyond the Gates is writing scripts well-ahead of air, between 4-6 months, so Carlivati’s material could run into the early part of 2026. Back in May of this year, the series received its second season pick-up which will take it deep into 2026. It will be intriguing to see just who will be the main writing staff for season 2 as it is revealed.

So, what do you think of Ron Carlivati’s departure from the writing team of ‘Beyond the Gates’? Since Ron is pursuing other projects, where do you hope he lands next? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I am not upset by this at all; I’m sure it unnerved him to not be in control of what was being written, and, honestly, his breakdowns were some of the worst I’ve seen. It will be interesting to see how the upcoming changes will impact the serial as a whole. Can we get Patrick Mulcahey as his replacement?

He is allowed to pursue other opportunities without being criticized for it. It’s amazing how much free time you have.

Is it?

I was being sarcastic.

Not a fan of his writing at all. No loss to BTG!

Okay, I’m not mad at this news.

I’ve always enjoyed his writing style despite the fact that it could be campy.

Halleluiah!

And that’s not a word a Devil uses often.

Now for the love of all that’s unholy, keep him away from Days & GH

I don’t like this news. He’s my favorite soap writer and I love his way of telling stories and making so much action happen. I hope he’ll turn up writing for another soap soon

With what is happening with GH, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear he has returned to his old stomping grounds.

Please, no. Benard and Burton would be totally against that as Ron back burnered Sonny and really didn’t know how to write for Jason.

I did enjoy Ron’s first 12-18 months of his head writing stint at GH as he brought balance to the show and brought back the vets. But then he gave us Pickle Lila 2, had a petty feud with Kanan, changed the Fluke storyline when the audience guessed it was BIll Eckherdt and finally the godawful Denise DeMuccio.

He went through the effort to find somewhat plausible methods to bring back AJ and Duke back from the dead – only to kill both off permanently a year or two later.

At OLTL, he had moments that were really good, but also created the Morasco fiasco, Dorian’s same-sex wedding and the Ford bros.

Oh geez! I shudder when I remember what he did to OLTL. I totally forgot about the Morasco fiasco and the Ford brothers. The show became total camp!

Steve, I am always blown away by your grasp of soap history and storylines. Your commentary is always insightful and fun! Take care, Friend!

Unpopular opinion but I’m a huge Carlivati fan. Best of luck to Ron!

I am on your side

Same

Ron is talented, and it will be interesting to see what his future plans hold. If anyone at Bold and CBS is listening…… Ron could inject a much needed boost to B&B! Anything would be an improvement over the same recycled dialogue and storylines.

Or Young and Restless

CBS/Sony Pictures Television do not want him, plus, they’re pleased with Josh Griffith right now, as the demos/ratings are to their liking.

He would be an interesting addition to bold

He could also save restless because someone needs too my fast forward button keeps going because I’m falling to sleep

I think it would be a great idea for
Ron to take over the writing team of GH.
Maybe the storylines would go back to character building and not
CHAOS and THE DREW DEBACLE!

I agree.

Ron is a plot guy, not a character guy!

Send him to b & b!

Genoa city really needs a writer! Calling Ron Carlivati to actually write a story from beginning to end on the Y & R unlike the fraud HW who’s destroyed my favorite soap

Thank God. If he had stayed pretty soon the BTG characters would be pulling off masks and suffering from multiple personality disorder. He’s called rerun Ron for a reason.

There’s already at least one DID case on that show. The one with 666 wigs, and a different name that goes with each wig. Haven’t officially declared it as DID yet, but what else could it be?

Maybe they will just write her off when ReRon’s writing is done. She pretty much served her purpose, bringing Ted his long lost daughter, so it’s not like she would be missed all that much.

Oh, I’d miss her. I think she’s hilarious, especially when she’s getting under Ted’s skin. But she’s rotten to the core, and given her involvement in the accident that took out Nicole’s original assistant, I have a feeling she’s not long for suburban Maryland.

The actress is quite a find; I hope some other soap snaps her up if she does leave.

GH could always bring back the Ward family. She could be a member of that clan. I could see her mixing it up with the Quartermaine cousins.

The actress is great. As the show is more realistic than most soaps there is a simple way to keep her on the show. Bring the case to a DA and have him/her say they will not prosecute the case because Cat tampered with the evidence and the evidence could not reach the beyond a reasonable doubt standard. It would be in keeping with what actually happens in real life. The irony of Dana/Leslie getting off because of Cats law breaking would be priceless.
