Billy Baldwin Shares the DAYS Audition that Went Awry When the Soap was Seeking an ‘Alec Baldwin’ Type

Photo: AP

In a ‘True Hollywood Story’, of sorts, Billy Baldwin took to Instagram and shared what went on behind the scenes when Days of our Lives was looking to cast the role of Ivy Jennings boyfriend many years ago.

Ivy was then played by actress and now acting coach as well, Holly Gagnier, and according to Baldwin’s post the she was his fiancée at the time.  Making this all the more ironic was that DAYS was seeking an “Alec Baldwin’ type for the role.  Of course, Billy is Alex’s brother.  However, according to Baldwin’s post he was rejected by DAYS and never got the job, after a lousy audition.

Here is what Billy shared: “#HollywoodMoments: Days Of Our Lives – It was very early in my career. I had just signed with my agent J. Michael Bloom and Associates. Michael had also recently signed Jeanne Tripplehorn, Laura Linney and Anthony LaPaglia… so it was a very exciting and scary time. I was going on lots and lots of meetings and auditions with casting directors, directors, producers, writers, show runners… and studio and network executives. On my second audition… I booked the film ‘Born of the Fourth of July’ with Oliver Stone at the helm directing and starring Tom Cruise. Not all of of my auditions went that well.

One time I was submitted to read for the soap opera ‘Days of our Lives.’ I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do a soap but was willing to take any and every audition and meeting early in my career so I could have more experience in the room, get over the butterflies and try to make an impression on anybody in the business… so I decided to go for it. Ironically… I was reading to play the love interest Ivy Jannings. Ivy Jannings was played by the wonderful and beautiful Holly Gagnier. At the time Holly Gagnier was the real life fiancé of my brother Alec so we were friends and spent a good amount of time together palling around NYC. To make matters worse… it literally said on the breakdown of the audition for this part: Prototype: “Alec Baldwin type”

They were actually looking for an “Alec Baldwin type” and it was to play the part of the love interest of my brother Alec’s real life fiancé… Holly Garnier.  To be kind… let’s just say I stunk up the room so bad that I didn’t even get a call back. In the days and weeks that followed that audition my agent, my brother and the lovely Holly Gagnier never mentioned a word to me about how I did. It just disappeared and was never mentioned again as if it never happened.”

So what do you think would have happened if Billy Baldwin actually wound up on DAYS? Maybe they should let him audition for another part now??? What do you think? Take a look at his full post below, then let us know your thoughts on the real-life story he shared in the comments section.

I’ve seen him on talk shows and he’s a fun guy. I can’t quite understand why he would not get feedback on an audition experience such as this. Doesn’t make sense to me.

Sorry, folks…I understand the Fondas, the Barrymores, the Hustons, even the Wahlbergs. But I’ll never get the appeal of the Baldwin clan, especially Alec. He’s like the plague….He’s EVERYWHERE! Book jacket blurbs, film criticism, art galleries, interviews about classic cinema that he claims to have “experienced” — decades before his birth. When did he become The Oracle about everything in the arts? It’s nauseating. I guess I’m glad the family managed to avoid most soaps, except for Alec’s unmemorable work on KNOTS LANDING and THE DOCTORS, or whatever show he graced.

LOL. This is funny.

Love it.

Funny story. I think things worked out ok for him.

If I were you Billy boy I would not discuss my sick twisted brother !!! Anybody else he would have already been charged with murder . Good old sick Hollywood

Sick, twisted brother? Didn’t see Billy refer to Stephen at all.
