‘Brilliant Minds’ Officially Canceled After 2 Seasons at NBC; DAYS Alum Al Calderon, OLTL Alum Teddy Sears and Zachary Quinto Among the Cast
After languishing on the bubble for months, on Friday, NBC handed down the decision and canceled the medical drama Brilliant Minds after two seasons.
Brilliant Minds stars Zachary Quinto as neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.
The final six episodes of what will now be the end of its second and final season were already set to air beginning on May 27, after being pulled off the network schedule in February as viewership saw a steep decline. Brilliant Minds second season became the lowest-rated drama on linear TV viewing, which didn’t bode well fo a network renewal, although it had its hard core fan base.

There are some exceptional notables in the cast along with the talented Quinto that includes Days of Our Lives alum, Al Calderon (ex-Javi Hernandez) who joined the series in its second season as Nurse Nico Silva, and One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) who plays Wolf’s love interest and fellow physician, Dr. Josh Nichols.
The rest of the talented cast includes: Tamberla Perry, Ashleigh LaThrop, Alex MacNicoll, Aury Krebs, Spence Moore II, Donna Murphy, John Clarence Stewart, and Brian Altemus.
In an ironic twist of fate on Thursday, April 30, Days of Our Lives finally revealed the actor who was Al Calderon’s successor in the role of Javi, when they announced that actor Jacob Martinez had now stepped into the role. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episode, Calderon left in the spring of 2025, but will be seen in the part for the final part this month, and then on June 20, Martinez debuts as Salem’s new Javi.
Taking to his Instagram with a sorrowful and heartfelt post on the Brilliant Minds cancellation was Teddy Sears who wrote, “Thank you, Brilliant Minds. I got the call today and I didn’t want to hear, but I knew that it would come, You have to be a particular vintage to quote Don Henley from memory, but that’s the line that came to mind earlier today after I got off the phone with our inimitable showrunner Michael Grassi who delivered the news that NBC has cancelled the series”.

Photo: NBC
Sears continued, “To say that I feel sad to be moving on from these stories, this character, and this cast and crew just doesn’t paint the entire picture. I’m sad, sure. But I’m also deeply grateful that I got hired to play this part, so proud of the stories we told, and the other actors I got to play alongside. I’m excited to see what comes next, what adventures await, and terrified to be without a professional home. A quick and heartfelt thank you to everyone, all over the globe, who found us and found themselves in us, in our characters and in our stories. We wouldn’t have been able to tell them without you. And we still have 6 fresh episodes yet to air, and I do hope you tune in enjoy the remainder of the series. They’re the best we’ve done.”
As he wrapped up his sentiments, Sears signed off with, “The more I know, the less I understand. All the things I figured out I have to learn again. I’ve been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But everything changes…Thank you, Brilliant Minds.”
The medical drama was created and executive produced by Michael Grassi alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Lee Toland Krieger, DeMane Davis, Jasmine Russ, Henrik Bastin, Jonathan Cavendish, Andy Serkis and Shefali Malhoutra.

Taking to his Instagram to celebrate the nominations, GH’s Bennett, enthused, “3 Critic Choice Nominations! I’m so proud of the FINDING MR CHRISTMAS and to be in the company of all the legends in all these categories is so surreal! Congrats to Hallmark Channel and to our nominated cast and nominated show and everyone who made this magical show possible. This is crazy! This gives FMC 6 Critics Choice nominations in 2 years. Not bad for a little show on Hallmark Channel. What are your thoughts on our show?” Jumping first into the comment thread was one of his new GH co-stars, Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) who expressed, “Yeah buddy!!!🔥🔥”
In the series, Bennett, the host and co-creator spends eight weeks guiding 10 aspiring actors through a series of “festive face-offs” and acting challenges alongside actors like soap opera notables, Hunter King (ex-Summer, Y&R) and Alison Sweeney (Sami, DAYS). Along the way, they develop their skills and a bond with one another. The show, which is available on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Plus, highlights LGBTQ+ representation with openly gay contestants vying to be the next Hallmark star.
It should be noted that Traitors received the most Critics Choice Real TV Award nominations with 6 nods, followed by Dancing with the Stars with 4.
Bennett is very familiar to daytime fans having started his career as JR Chandler on All My Children in 2000-2001, before landing the part of Aaron Samuels in the motion picture, Mean Girls in 2004 starring Lindsay Lohan, which would become his breakout performance.

‘General Hospital’s’ Kelly Thiebaud on Britt and Cassius Sibling Drama, But Who Will Ultimately Blow His Cover?
On the April 30 episode of General Hospital, Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) had some choice words and warning for her brother Cassius Faison (Ryan Paevey) who has been masquerading as his twin, the very dead, Nathan West.
As the story has unfolded, viewers learned that Britt knew all along that when “Nathan” showed up in Port Charles seemingly resurrected with a missing 7 years of his life unexplained, that Cassius was taking his place.
Now in developments on today’s GH, Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) is figuring out that this guy pretending to be Nathan is someone else, and Cassius learns from Britt, that Joss is not just a ditzy sorority girl as he claimed, but a WSB agent! The moment stuns Cassius. Are the walls about to close in on him and his charade?

Courtesy/ABC
Daytime Emmy winner, Kelly Thiebaud spoke to Soap Opera Digest, about the story point and getting the opportunity this time back at GH to work with Ryan Paevey, when she hadn’t had the chance to before.
BROTHERLY LOVE?
Thiebaud expressed on sharing scenes with Ryan Paevey, “It’s just been so wonderful to have him back and to actually work with him! When he first came onto the show (as Nathan at the end of 2013) I was kind of heading out — it was right towards the end of my contract, so we didn’t actually work together a ton. It’s been really refreshing and so much fun to really spend time together and get to know each other and work together. I think we have really great on-camera chemistry and banter with each other. I really enjoy working with him.”
With the stakes at an all-time, Thiebaud explained how she views her on-screen alter-ego’s involvement with her more hot-to-temper sibling and why Britt revealed the truth about Josslyn to him. “People finding out about Cassius would expose what she’s involved in and what she agreed to do,” explains Kelly “And now Josslyn is digging around, and she’s connected to Carly (Laura Wright) to Jason (Steve Burton) and that whole dynamic! It’s messy!”
BRITT’S MURKY FUTURE
Britt has currently also reached her breaking point with Jason being carted away by the WSB, Rocco (Finn Carr), the child she gave birth to, shooting Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) to protect her and Jason, Marco (Adrian Anchondo) being killed after trying to help her, and Cullum holding over her head getting her Huntington’s disease medication to control her symptoms, while blackmailing her into finishing the research on her father, Cesar Faison’s, final project. Thiebaud summed it up best for Britt right now, sharing, “It’s been a really tough time for her.”
So, who do you think will be the person to blow Cassius’ cover? Will it be Britt herself? Josslyn? Liesl? Brennan? Nina? Lulu? Rocco, Maxie, Cullum or someone else? Let us know your pick in the comment section.

OK-
That was the most predictable story of the past 5 years LOL!
From day one when Neil became blind I knew he would get his sight back and the first thing he would see would be Hillary and his son Devon in bed getting it on..
Campy- that is pure sappy Campy soap writing ..
The Y&R stories have been very campy..
I hope Pratt changes the camp to intrigue, if that would be possible ..
Really, did anybody not see that coming??
Fans demand Victoria Rowell as Drucilla. Enough now! Its about ratings and making fans stay with the show. They ONLY ONLY ONLY reason I am still with this show after 35 years is SHARON CASE as my favorite! WE fans dont care what Victoria did or said we want Drucilla back and dare they try to replace her its the last straw to a long time fan ! I already want to stop watching YR. Everyone loves BB, Days and GH better now. I am just waiting for this Chelsea thing to find out its Adam so he can get his son and find his as MM always said as Adam that can be seen in all the videos My true love is Sharon!!! Team Shadam!!!!! 🙂
I agree they never found Drucillas body in the first place. So how long are they going to wait. They keep having the right time to bring her back but never do.
I would like a recast of Drucilla, but not Victoria Rowell. Just not a fan of hers on or off screen. JMO
Yes Ruby, I love Sharon and love Shadam!
Dru definitely return…remember Phyllis and ShSharon was on the scene of her death….?????? $he could survive years of being lost…Malcolm did.
It was just announced today that Victoria Rowell is suing Sony/CBS. Rowell alleges CBS and Sony rejected her re-employment in retaliation for her speaking out on the need to increase the presence of African Americans in soap operas. She will never return now. Recast if anything, and that will make her more mad.
I know … HOWEVER, Neil’s scenes with Nikki today (believe it or not) finally got me to pay attention to Kristoff’s scenes again! This blindness story has gone on way too long. Finally some good stuff … a man/father scorned!
I loved their scenes together. Yes, I paid attention, too. Really, who could blame Neil?
Predictability doesn’t necessarily negate good story telling. I thought the scene was riveting and well acted.
Here’s what I envision–Neil to Lily–Honey, I have some good news and some bad news. What do you want to hear first?
Lily- Oh, the good news first!
Neil–Okay. The good news is that my sight came back and the bad news is I caught my wife having sex with my son. Oh…..and your husband knew about it all along.
THUD!
PLUS, Neil’s planning revenge…that’s good soap 🙂
IT’S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!!!!!!!!!
SERIOUSLY MR.PRATT??? Super lazy and lame plot point to bring Neil out of his blindness. You didn’t write that story but as a “better” writer this could have been done much more differently than the myriad of times it’s been done over the soap decades. What is the problem with thinking outside the box on a normal everyday level without getting outrageous??..So you don’t want them to know…then have smarmy Colin know where they are outside of Genoa City in a rendezvous..in a public place making out and Colin wants Neil to AT THE LEAST overhear their love talk…and he does…and at that moment of realization his sight returns and even COLIN doesn’t know it ..and he pretends he didn’t hear what he heard and he still can’t see and the drama would be much more better than pretending a bent key card still doesn’t beep and announce your entrance into a room whose door is so quiet Hilary and Devon could have been murdered on the spot and woke up in Glory none the wiser…UGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
The best thing Pratt could do as a follow up is make it a thought in Neil’s head..and then his sight DOES return but he can’t get the thought out his head of Devon and Hillary..and even though he feels guilty…he makes it up in his mind to lie and keep being blind and you have a whole other sweeps period before May just on the simple fact that Neil proves himself right. WAKE UP DUDE!!!..Stop thinking of umbrella disaster and think CHARACTER CHARACTER CHARACTER…not hiding somebody under rubble on a trailer for sweeps and the excitement is in finding out who…SO NOT THE DRAMA…
And in the process let Cane realize Neil can see and be Mr.Uptight Upright as usual and clap his trap and secretly anticipate Devon getting caught…”some of those Chancellor billions should have been mine anyway and all Devon is doing is squandering it away..getting blackmailed and duped into bad investments.”..”So you knew all along he was having an affair with that duplicitous ass tramp and you kept quiet…FOR WHAT CANE…FOR WHAT???”…”Because he’s a smug ass self centered bastard flaunting what should have NEVER been his. He got what was coming to him..Your father took time out of his life to raise a child whose mother didn’t want him and he threw it all back in Neil’s face…and not just once. You wanna make me the bad guy..you wanna tell me I should have spoke up…I didn’t …and I don’t regret it..not for one second…” See it’s difficult..but if you take the time to think a story through to drama and holding viewers…I’M OVER IT.
Pratt can make us happy and give us a happy Sharon with Adam and a happy Neil with his true love Drucilla. Now that is ratings that will be off the charts 🙂
Pratt hear our cry! SHARON and ADAM belong TOGETHER! I never EVER liked Chelsea from day one. Sharon and Adam for years had me excited to see The Young and The Restless. They just need him to come back to show he loves his son but as soon as he does he WILL go find as the role of Adam Newman can be seen in many videos he will find his true love Sharon. Infact Adam has always said “Sharon you can’t quit me!” He loves Sharon. STOP treating Sharon like a doormate!
David, I agree with much of your rant. You mention “swarmy Colin.”
Here’s my plea to Chuck Pratt–You have a class act, a true gem in Tristan Rogers.
Many fans followed him over to Y&R from GH eagerly awaiting his next great story. Now I realize he cannot forever play a high class, super duper spy forever but may he play someone intelligent, someone classy, someone worthy of this actor’s charisma and acting prowess? Instead they have him written as some low brow, sleazy con artist and not even a very good one at that. Please, impress viewers by giving Tristan some decent material–let him go head to toe with Victor and here’s a thought–let him win a few.
This storyline started so well but has become so boring and predictable.
Id like to see(pun) Neil go all ‘Lizzie Borden’ and take an ax to both of them…lol…but in the end he’ll pretend to be blind and play games with them, with them unaware he has seen an eyefull…lol
I hope it will be just games Neil will be playing, jimh. We drive through Fall River many a-time, and I always get the chills…LOL. I don’t like gore.we already have a resident nutso….kelly or Phyllis?
Im with you…im not a fan of gore(but i did once meet in person Al and Tipper…lol)…i hope Hiliary ends up preggers but not Devons child…let him or her be Neils!!!!!
I did state, many, many weeks ago that this scenario would unfold just as it did. Neil would suddenly get his sight back….and, Lo and behold…VOILA’…..what a kick in the arse, as my grandfather would say.LOL.
FOr once I was right. Yeayyyyy. Then again, all of you, most likely, thought the same thing! LOL.
Neil got an eyeful for sure! I think he may pretend to be blind to keep Hilary and/or seek revenge/set a trap. Should be good. Hopefully, because a lot of stuff with the Winters is boring.
He will continue to act blind, set them up and send them both to hell!
That’s what it looks like, Timmm.
Are all men this calm when they find out their spouse/mate has cheated on them? WOW, I would have yelled and screamed my head off. …taken his clothes; throw them out the window and kick him where it hurts…but, that’s just moi.
Men are definitely more subdued when it comes to this. Sounds like your husband better behave!
@Timmm.
Lol. My husband knows better. I have Viking blood running through my veins…LOL.
I just wonder how far Neil will go with this. I am glad he has, at least, confided in someone (Nikki). Perhaps Neil’s ‘predicament’ will be a distraction for her. Hopefully we won’t see her face all scrunched up in a confused stupor as often as we do.
For Neil to methodically conjure up a plan of revenge, he must , not only, have a steady hand, as it were, but also an iron determination.
Finally, a storyline that interests me!…..finally, a storyline steering me away from the Phyllis/Kelly/Jack insipid drama!….ugh.
For sure..
Campy campy campy !
It’s kind of hilarious in a dark and twisted way.
Soapy and sweet!
It was very predictable, who didn’t think it was going to happen like this? But it’s about damn time! Y&R seems to drag out their stories way too long (that music box madness, anyone?) so thank god this has finally happened. And I hope, whatever the outcome of the story is, it ends with Neil getting Dru back. She’s his one and only true love.
Props to Kristoff St. John for some great acting during a very difficult personal tragedy. Hmmm can we see a drunken Nikki and Neil in the sack???
Shelly…the I-D-E-A of Neil and Nikki in bed together????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! But you know what…that would serve that stuffy-old D-R-A-G-O-N Victor right…LOL!!!!! Yep.
The only way Nikki and Neil would end up being in bed together is if Neil went blind again.
One never knows, Jaybird. These clandestine meetings between Nikki and Neil romancing the bottle, will probably lead them straight to a roll -in -the -hay in a drunken stupor. It’s nothing new to either of them.
I don’t understand how people can reach this age, this period in their lives and still make the same mistakes. What about life-lessons?
yay!!!! this storyline may be predictable but its classic good soap! lovng the chancellor business connection, getting jill and colin involved for selfish reasons!
dont care about devon but i hope hilary goes back to her nasty ways when everyone turns on her!
i hope leslie returns to help neil with the fallout and i hope lily turns to leslies bro tyler for the same! pls mr pratt can u bring back leslie and tyler for this!!!
lastly the neil and nikki scene in the bar was my fav scene recently after paul vs victor after dylan was attacked! great seasoned actors showing how its done!! thats true y n r !
Well at least Nikki has a new drinking buddy—but other than that I really not invested in this story. Never brought the idea that Neil could be so in love with this young thing, I think he got what he deserved for robbing the cradle in the first place. The only thing that might redeem this story for me is if I find out Hilary has been playing both of them all along– that she didn’t “change” and this was her ultimate plan to get back at Neil for leaving her mother to die alone in that hotel room.
Interesting, Mary. You could be on to something.
I frankly don’t see what she sees in Devon. He’s very unappealing in so many different ways. Neil may be older but he looks a lot better sans shirt than his scrappy son.
Hi, Harry,
The scrappy son lacks any kind of appeal because he’ s immature . I know he’s an adult, but due to his youthful appearance, I cannot take him seriously in this role.
That would make too much sense, Mary SF.
I agree with everything you said. One thing though, I am waiting (rolling eyes) for the who’s the daddy story to come out of this.
If this concept was truly fleshed out in the early writing stages it could have become something intriguing rather than gimmicky. The story (which I never ever liked) could easily mirror a Greek Tragedy, i.e. Oedipus. Oh, to think of the ways this might have been clever! Once again: writers, do you have degrees in English and creative writing?
I want Neil to pretend that he didn’t see them ; then set them up for an humiliating
fall. Something that ‘s spectacular!
That is in the making, Belle. Your wish was right on target.
Why should Neil be surprised? Devon slept with Tyra when she was with Neil.
Devon just needs to remember that you lose ’em like you get ’em….
THIS STORY WENT ON FOR WAY TOOOO LONG AND WAS PREDICTABLE……………..HOWEVER SOME GOOD ACTING TODAY BY NEIL!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree, Judy.
I know Kristoff was playing blind for months, but because the story was so god-awful and way too long, I didn’t care for the acting. HOWEVER, today’s episode, now that was acting! He and Nikki were actually fun to watch.
I think the worst part of the whole thing up until yesterday, was all this garbage happening behind/in front of a blind man’s face. That just made Neil look like such a pathetic loser and Neil is anything but a pathetic loser.
I also hope this puts some much needed angst between Saint Lily and Cane. They could stand to be apart for a good couple of months. I think they have used up all their “romantic getaways” for the duration of their coupling. That’s all they have them do – that and make out in the middle of the restaurant or do it on someone’s desk.
I must be a loner lately but I really like the writing and how it’s being played out. I think C.Pratt is doing a great job. No matter how Neil found out you know he would turn to the bottle just like Nikki did. I would like to see Neil with the actress that pretended to be Devon’s girlfriend. She was a great actress. I agree that Sharon is being treated like a doormat but who knows what’s in store for her. The days of Shadam & the magic of Orleans is gone with M.M. & we have to accept it. I think the new Adam/Gabriel is doing a fantastic job but I want to see him stay with Chelsea. I think it would make for a better story if Sharon was with Dylan. I’m so happy Sharon finally has a friend in Chelsea.
I liked it too, Nikki.
And I do think happier times await Sharon. I think Dylan and Betty Crocker are going to split and Dylan may be paired up with Sharon. The only time Steve Burton comes alive is when he’s talking to her.
Hi, Nikki.
I think Neil should relax. He just got his sight back, and wow…he had a lot to take in. Yes, he is out for revenge, but, I just can’t picture him as the vindictive type. He has been hurt, deeply, so, his ‘meek’ personality is a thing of the past.
However, to pair him with another much younger woman again? I don’t know….he hasn’t fared well so far with much younger women.
To be honest, I don’t want to see Dylan with anyone. I think his so over-extended ego will make a great bed-partner for him. That’s all he needs. He is in love with number one…himself. Sharon deserves a little happiness, but not with Steroido.
You have a good heart, Nikki. I, too, am glad Sharon has a friend in Chelsea….a buffer. Later.
Didn’t it seem like they are trying to test Sharon and Dylan lately? I have said that for a while now that Avery get pried away from Dylan. She drags him down. She was fun with Nick (but that is a credit to Joshua Morrow and his ability to act like a doofus).
I like Gwen too. Maybe Neil and Gwen will do like the movie SHATTERED and turn the tables on the cheaters. That would be fun.
My problem is I don’t like any of the characters in this triangle. It’s karma for Neil for being a cheater himself & marrying someone he doesn’t know & is too young for him. Then trying to saddle her down with a baby while he’s fidgeting around, newly blind. Sure it’s in sickness & health, but put the baby on the back burner til you & your wife are well-adjusted to your new blindness.
Devon a sh*t messing w/his dad’s wife & waxing on about love even though he was shagging what’s her name (twice!) just wks ago ,And Hilary, who shouldn’t have married him, talks about is Neil non-stop-before they start sucking each other’s faces off til they’re done & during pillow talk..Neil, Neil, Neil..”I feel so bad, but shag me again.”
I didn’t mind the reveal. It was cheesy and the sl did go on too long. The revenge them is the thing I don’t get. I get it, but not from this show. I’m a GH lifer, and I get their campy take on their sl’s. We fans understand the crazy writing. We’re in on it. I feel Mr. Pratt’s writing some campy stuff, but still trying to pass it off as fine art. Y&R did need some jolts, but the first thing he did was put Phyllis in a looney bin & have Sharon lose custody. Don’t even get me started on how he skipped the entire sl leading to the hearing. I’ll move on.
All the women are suddenly weak or dependent on a man. Weak: Phyllis, Hilary (meltdown in front of Neil), Sharon, Sage lets Gabe bash her & is looking kooky chasing Nick, Summer’s whining is non-stop, Chelsea’s moved Billy in & is putting up with his rude bashing of Adam, Victoria’s moving Ben in, Jill’s addicted to Colin, now Mariah’s a victim & has no where to live (not with Nick?) & moving in w/Kevin. Avery’s even dreaming about Joe. Phyllis is now moving in w/God…I mean, Victor & Vic didn’t even ask booze-bag Nikki, he “told” her..ouch. I won’t even get started on crazy Kelly. Weak women, dependent on men! Sad.
I want to add that I LOVE drunk Nikki and drunk Neil at the dive bar! I’ll tell you mine if you tell me mine! More, please! I have a bad feeling 1 of them will drive drunk and kill Cricket’s baby.
Cricket can do that all on her own. She is too obsessed with bringing Phyllis down to take care of her unborn baby. Check-up schmeck-up. She does not care enough for that unborn baby.
I guess I like predictability because I am so enjoying this story. I like the little twist yesterday when Neil and Nikki ended up in the same bar, and Neil told her everything. And I appreciated that Neil wasn’t made to look dumb – he quickly figured out that Cane has known all along. Didn’t expect that and I thought the acting was great. Now I’m waiting for what I consider to be the real payoff for this story, and that is when Lily finds out and especially when she finds out what Cane knew and when he knew it!!
Yeah, Annie…some showdown that will be.
I want Devon and Hillary to pay, and pay hard. My resentment toward these two surprises even me.
I hope Neil pursues Hillary in the bedroom and really wears her down and out so that she has no time or energy for Devon.
I also loved the scene between Neil and Nikki. Priceless.
I doubt Neil will have the stamina for all that ‘loving’, Mark….Viagra, anyone?…LOL.
It seems this is karma since a few years back Neil slept with Devon’s girlfriend.
Actually it was Devon who slept with Neil’s girlfriend Tyra. I guess that was just the warm-up for sleeping with Neil’s wife.
Yeah. Tyra was so beautiful. I did mention this earlier…couldn’t remember her name. I do remember that Devon’s little sister was in her guardianship….no karma here.
