Brytni Sarpy Lands Contract Role On The Young and the Restless
Congratulations are in order to Brytni Sarpy, who has played Valerie Spencer on General Hospital. In casting news today, Sarpy is moving over to Genoa City from Port Charles, and joining the cast of The Young and the Restless.
According to Soap Opera Digest, Sarpy has been cast in the new contract role of Elena Dawson. She will begin her run next week on the CBS Daytime drama when she begins taping episodes.
As to what will happen to the recurring character of Valerie on GH, well that remains to be seen. Brytni debuted in the role in 2015.
No word yet on Sarpy’s first Y&R airdate.
So, just how will Y&R’s Elena come on to the canvas? Who will be her love interest? What will be her story? Weigh-in on your thoughts for the new character and Sarpy in the comment section below
Yet another Spencer disappears from Port Charles. I’m sure they will take the convenient option and make her Ryan’s next target.
Don’t blame Brytni for taking a contract at all, but it sucks what GH has done to the Spencers under the post Feb 2012 regime.
New loveR for Devon
No please not that little tyrant. GH make her a offer she cant refuse I love her as Valerie.
Oh please, dont let Devon ruin another character!
Spare me!
Devon is SO boring, but I suppose now, as the only adult Black character on contract (I think), they will try to keep him relevant. Problem is, he’s NOT. Never has been.
Congrats. I’m happy for her.
She was brought in for the sad-sack Devon.
being she is not Newman or Abbott she will quickly fad to eventually let go..
It’s rare a newbie lasts they are tools for 6 months then gone..
(count them all)
but, she wasted on GH so good for her to get out.
perhaps she will also be tied in with Neils exit, to be written.
still, she’s for Devon.
@ Y&R : FOR THE LOVE OF GOD : NOT w/ DEVON. PLEASE
altho that’s hard not to.. shoot @General Hospital WASTED her
HER
the last time I just hollered laughed out loud.. as she’s @Charlies w/Kristina
and Kristina is telling her she’s looking good
Valerie: “in this old thing” LOL
Valerie was NEVER given full out the gate… yeah she moved with Dante… OH YEAH hard knock
she was about ready to move Kristina… Valerie should have been featured with her aunts Bobbi AND Laura… to no avail
@Frank Valentini YOU LOST ANOTHER TALENT… your continued drivel stink on shit dullards focus on: Sonny and Carly; Sam and Jason; Michael, Finn, Franco, Peter
it’s so criminal watching Michael Easton with Finola Hughes.. as thee slapstick , sidekick, one on one whit with Robert… as they cozy up and down the one liners .. how pitiful
the one thing Shelly and Chris had better get Valentine out of.. his “hiring” Sasha has got to be rectified… you have the only passionate couple on GH with Valentine and Nina.. and you write this? Sasha has got to go.
Yes, Duh Yawn will ingest her with one gaping yawn! Pair her up with Jason’s Billy Abbott. I don’t want him back with Phyllis or Victoria. He needs a new love.
YESSSSS. I like that idea
The only question is what will happen to Valerie on General Hospital? My guess is that they will either write Valerie out or recast the role with a different actress.
Your guess? Those are LITERALLY the only options. Either the character disappears from the show or somebody else plays her!
Recast the role? Who the hell in Hollywood would give up their job in a restaurant for appearing on GH 3 times a year!
Or she could end up being one of Ryan’s victims.
Can Ryan make a guest appearance on Y&R so he can kill Mia, Duh-Yawn, Summer, Nate and maybe Cane?
Harry…I LOVE that idea…YEAH!!!!! Then maybe he can, uh, inject Nikki with a much-needed and long-overdue sense of humor…lol. Hey…just an idea…
Later.
They need to just write the character off. The only storyline Valerie had ruined her character.
They blew up one of the popular couples (Dante/Lulu) on the show for her Big Storyline, and that ruined her for me.
Colour me shocked about this. Admittedly, when Ms. Sarpy first debuted as Valerie Spencer, I hated her and the character. However, since her teased pairing with Kristina (Lexi Ainsworth), I’ve warned to the character and actress some. I’m happy for Ms. Sarpy, though, considering it seems like TPTB at General Hospital seem disinterested in utilizing her and the potential of a quality pairing that audiences seem to truly want. Am hoping that TPTB at The Young and the Restless can put good use to Ms. Sarpy’s talents as an actress.
I guess that means we re going to have to wait longer for the return of Mishael Morgan. Which everyone is really hoping for. In meantime would ve prefered Leslie and her brother Tyler to return which i think Josh created the last time
So happy for Brytni! I love GH but African-American characters tend to languish there. I don’t get it! Brytni has the chops and I know she’ll do an amazing job @ YR.
This would be great for her new character be the daughter of Malcolm. I’m sure SM is coming back for appearance for KSJ Neil’s death. It would be great for SM to help set up the story and give Lily someone to play off of on canvas.
May the switch from GH to Y&R be as good for Brytni as it was for Jason Thompson, who went from the typical GH sporadic appearances and meandering story lines to consistent, center-stage appearances driving story. GH is actually being hindered by its bloated cast, resulting in uneven, drawn out or simply inexplicably dropped stories. A soap magazine recently published a feature on the complete casts of each soap. While the other soaps characters / actors comprised 2 pages each, GH required 4 pages! In any case, while I’m disappointed that the barely there but potentially great story of Valerie’s relationship with Kristina will be dropped, I’m looking forward to Brytni on Y&R.
I’d like to see her with Devon. It’s time for him to begin getting past his loss and he will be losing Neil in the spring. It would be nice if he could find someone sans baggage but that’s probably totally unrealistic on ma part!
Kudos to Sarpi, as she was grossly underused at GH. She’s a fine actress who will do well at Y&R.
As she landed a contract role, GH would not have a chance to write an exit story. Until Dante is recast, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Valerie recast as the PCPD needs another body
She could be the new Lilly
Did not care for her on GH,so hope she has a better role oh Y&R, probably as someone for Devon, which gives me hope that M.M will not be back as Hilary. One go around with her was quite enough, for me. She had so many fans, but I found her very self obsorbed, conceited, etc.
GH just didn’t utilize her enough. I hope she gets put to good use on Y&R. She is fun to watch.
Can’t figure GH out. They wasted this gorgeous, talented model/actress; never really gave her a story and we STILL don’t know who “Valerie’s” father was!!!! You would think since she was a Spencer that we’d at least find THAT out! They paired her with Dante, Dillon, Curtis, teased us with the possibility of her and Kristina… but just dropped her from each possibility of a relationship and story. She never got more than a nod from “Bobby.” Just, as said, a wasted. Not sure why they brought her on as a Spencer…
…just as they have done to Matt Cohen as Duke’s son. Another gorgeous actor…what was the point of making him Duke’s son? Nothing. It had no bearing on any story. He should have been the new doc around town; eligible, charismatic, etc. They just wasted the character. Even as Ava or Kiki’s love interest they didn’t develop his personality. He’s only starting to have some real strength now (in his grief he’s at last showing passion) and rumor is he’s out.
Best to Brytni. Hope you’ll shine over at Y&R.
Great points, Rebecca! Your first statement sums it all up: “Can’t figure GH out.” That has been my mantra for quite a long time… From your reporting, it seems as though the writers/producers are constantly changing course. Why else would they proclaim Valerie a Spencer and Matt a son of Duke? What seems like a great idea one day morphs into a “meh” moment later on, so they wash their hands of it, change direction, rewrite history, and hope the viewer doesn’t notice or perhaps even care. Continuity, which is commensurate with soaps, doesn’t get the attention it deserves. So the viewer is often left wondering why… Best to you, Friend!
Valerie never felt like a Spenser to me…i blame the writers…thought the new guy playing Marcus would turn out to be her father
I thought Marcus was going to turn out to be her father…also thought Jordan’s husband Curtis would turn out to be Marcus’s son and then they learn they are half siblings and having to deal with their past but brief relationship!!!!
Rebecca, I love it when we are on the same page–it happens so seldom. I do agree with you on the points you assert here. Yes, Valerie was always playing second best to Dante’s Lulu, Curtis’s Jordan and Victoria Gotti’s (Kristina) Parker. Valerie outshines all of of the aforementioned and ought to be wearing a t-shirt which reads,”I Am NOT your Chopped Liver!”
I also agree that Griffin should have been given more opportunity–he should have been Anna’s son which would have given her unmitigated joy instead of foisting Faison’s spawn on her. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of Anna bawling!!! One can’t say,”Hey Anna, I just saw Peter in the parking lot” without Anna breaking down in sobs. I realize Finola Hughes is a good crier but this is ridiculous. Hey Anna, the ocean called, it wants some of its salt water back!
On a more positive note, I really like Alexis’s new love interest. This might work. I wonder if this psychiatrist will see right through Ryan?
Hey, Harr…long time!
Sooooooooooooo, we’re going to disagree again. I LOVE Peter! Adored him from the beginning. His looks, his smooth voice, his easygoing manner. And, he and Maxi have had more dialogue and shared moments than they ever gave Maxi and Nathan. While Ryan Paevy is striking, Peter is a smooth, mellow but delicious wine in comparison. But I digress… 😉
Ya. They completely wasted Matt Cohen. I love Ava. (hated Kiki ALMOST as much as I hate Carly…and that’s saying a lot.) But Griffin and Ava didn’t click and it’s not about age, they’re not even a decade apart. I loved Ava and Morgan who were much further in age. They just didn’t work for me.
But now that the rumor is he’s leaving, I see so much potential with him and Sasha! Talk about a striking couple! I really wish they had developed these two; they have chemistry even in the few scenes they’ve shared. As for him being Duke’s son; makes no sense. They didn’t expound on that other than he meant something to Anna. It was also a waste for him to have come on to the show as a priest. Why? What was the point in that???!!!! He should’ve been the new hunky, Jewish doctor. GH doesn’t have one Jewish doctor and what do they do? They take a Jewish actor and make him a doctor/priest! LOL! Can’t tell you how much that pissed me off. If they had other Jewish characters wouldn’t have bothered me so much but they obviously go out of their way to only feature one religion. As to how Griffin could have been a Jewish doctor as Duke’s son? Jewish mother. Voila!
Valerie. Gorgeous girl…had potential right from the start. Thought it would open a whole unexplored side to the Spencer family that we didn’t know about…her mom, who her father was, is he still alive, (thought before we met him that it might have been Marcus). Why didn’t Bobby ever have interaction with her? How ’bout Carly? Lucas? No one. Ridiculous.
But, typical. It’s crazy that there are no scenes between Alexis and Valentin. They’re half siblings! Nina is Alexis’s sister-in-law! Franco? He’s cousins with Drew and Jason. The writers just ignore all these connections; they’re not mentioned and I’m not even sure if the writers and the actors are aware of the tangled web they weave.
As for Anna? Not feeling her at all for a while. Actually, lost respect for the character after she completely disregarded Alexis’s involvement with Finn and gloated as he chose her, completely oblivious to how hurt Alexis was. And I also don’t like how they’re writing Anna’s behavior toward Scorpio. They were very in love at one time. They were partners in crime; they have a daughter. But now all she does is condescend to him and roll her eyes up when she mentions him to Finn. He’s treated like some bothersome old uncle. Again, these writers are not familiar with how respected and what a super spy Scorpio always was. His “visits” have been disappointing. Not, of course, Tristan Roger’s fault; love him. But the writers are just destroying the legend in my opinion.
And…I digressed! Again! 😉
It’s Y&R so she’ll walk around looking for a story for 6 months to a year and then be written off…
Good for her, GH is a tease for actors and fans! I hope she goes to Y&R and hits a home run! She has the ability to do so. She just cannot be written into the Winters clan! They suck the life out of you! I hope she is connected to Adam, J.T. or just some bartender that gets hired at Abby’s new restaurant who catches Billy’s eye?
Good for Brytni—-the character of Valerie was not given any justice. She was not really accepted by the audience, nor the locals. Poor Valerie was an outsider looking in …..never truly fit into the familial embrace…. and to add insult to injury, she became PC’s little hussy, when she took up with Dante.
Satan has a point….the best way to be rid of Valerie is to make her Ryan’s next victim……which will serve two purposes: get rid of her, and exculpate Franco, at the same time, as he would be in jail when the murder goes down. Just proposing a scenario, here.
I hope that Brytni will fare better at Y&R—-let’s not pair her with anyone, please!! Not prematurely, thst is. Why must every newcomer be thrown at a male counterpart just because?? Nevertheless, she will “go” to Devon, sooner than later.
Perhaps, she is an issue of Neil’s past loves? How about Hilary’s sibling? Victor’s love child?
I do want Brytni to shine, one way or another!!
The last thing Y&R needs right now is a new character. The Rosales family has barely integrated itself into the show without their constant presence still feeling jarring, and vets like Paul, Michael, Lauren & Jill are barely seen anymore. Y&R needs to refocus on its core characters and stop adding newbies.
As for the actress, I wasn’t a fan of hers on GH, but the writing for her character was also terrible. Valerie is a classic example of the show bringing in a new character for a specific storyline and not knowing what to do with them afterwards. Hopefully they don’t recast the role, and opt for writing her out or killing her off as Ryan’s next victim.
Y&R…whatever you do…DO NOT pair that new character (Elena Dawson) with that GOD-AWFUL AND BLAND Ken Doll wanna-be Nate…BEYOND BLECH!!!!!!!!!!
Hey…just saying…

Soap Alums Remembered During In Memoriam Segment at 78th Emmy Awards; Patrick Muldoon Omitted

During last night’s 78th annual Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony, as it does every year, the television academy paid tribute to those in the industry that they’ve lost over the last year; since the previous Emmys held each year in September.
Starting with an emotional tribute to the late Catherine O’Hara by three of her co-stars, Schitt’s Creek’s Annie Murphy and Dan Levy and Home Alone’s Macaulay Culkin, the segment then dovetailed into Noah Kahan performing “Bridge over Troubled Water” as the faces and the names of those being remembered were shown on the screen.
Daytime soap alums, who either stayed in the genre for the majority of their career, or went on to primetime success as well, were honored including: Anthony Geary (Luke, GH), Hayden Panettiere (Sarah, OLTL, Lizzie, GL, Juliette, Nashville), James Van Der Beek, (Dawson, Dawson’s Creek, and Stephen, ATWT), Gil Gerard (Alan, The Doctors), June Lockhart (Mariah, GH), Patricia Crowley (Mary, Port Charles and GH), Randolph Mantooth (Clay/Alex, Loving and The City, and Richard, GH) and Jon Cypher (Alex, ATWT and Arthur, Santa Barbara).

THOSE HONORED AND THOSE WHO WERE NOT
However, in a glaring omission, the producers of the In Memoriam failed to include Days of our Lives beloved star, Patrick Muldoon who played the OG Austin Reed and also Richard Hart on Melrose Place. Muldoon passed away in April of this year at 57.
After Kahan concluded his performance, a special tribute to Rob Reiner began with Jamie Lee Curtis taking to the stage to share some warm words about her late friend.
In a ironic and sad twist, Curtis shared ,“Last week, Robbie won an Emmy for guest actor in a comedy series for his beautiful work on The Bear, and he now holds the record of 48 years for the longest gap between acting Emmys, which was previously held by his father Carl Reiner, at 37 years.”
Reiner, who along with his wife, Michele Reiner were killed by their son, Nick Reiner, is currently awaiting a decision if he will stand trial. Prosecutors on Tuesday, shared they will not seek the death penalty if he is convicted at trial, but instead life in prison. Curtis said of Rob, “He was generous and kind and funny as hell, and a friend to all. We all miss Rob and Michele and all those we lost this year.” The Emmys then faded to black and went to commercial break.
So, were you happy to see those who you know from their work in soap operas included in the 2026 In Memoriam tribute at the Primetime Emmys? Share your thoughts in the comment section. But first, in case you missed it, you can watch it below.

Dolly Parton Remembered: Y&R Alum Alyvia Alyn Lind Shares Heartfelt Tribute to the Legendary Singer and Songwriter

The world is in mourning on Tuesday, August 25 with the news of the passing of iconic and beloved country western singer/songwriter/actress Dolly Parton. The 11-time Grammy winner crafted and performed memorable hits such as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” 9 to 5″, and “Here You Come Again, ” to name but a few.
Parton died in Nashville today. She was 80-years-old. Not only was Dolly an iconic name in the world of music, she was also an actor, producer, playwright, theme park founder (Dollywood), and a noted philanthropist.
One of the people lucky enough to know and experience the life of Dolly through a different lens was Alyvia Alyn Lind, the one time Faith Newman of The Young and the Restless. Lind played the role of Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) daughter on and off from 2011-2021.

ALVIA ALYN LIND PLAYED A YOUNG DOLLY
However, it was Lind, who portrayed a young Dolly in the television movie adaption of Parton’s song and book “A Coat of Many Colors” in 2015, and its sequel in 2016 Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
Parton and Lind shared a close bond following the project, famously performing a touching, emotional duet of Parton’s song “Angel Hill” together on Hallmark’s Home & Family.
Taking to her Instagram just a short time ago, Alyvia paid tribute to the one and only Parton, expressing, “I am truly at a loss for words. There are some people who come into your life and leave a mark that can never be erased. Dolly was one of those people. will forever be grateful that I had the privilege of knowing her, learning from her, and carrying a piece of her with me through such an important and formative part of my childhood. Getting to play Dolly changed my life, but getting to know her changed my heart. Memories, lessons, laughter, and a light that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Alyvia added, “The world will never be the same without her, but that light will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to experience it. Thank you for believing in me, for teaching me, for letting me be a small part of your story, and for being such a meaningful part of mine. Rest peacefully, Dolly. You will be missed more than words can ever say. Thank you for everything. ❤️
FAMILY ANNOUNCES THE DEATH OF DOLLY PARTON
Parton also starred alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman in the smash 1980 film 9 to 5, and later roles in films including: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, Straight Talk, and Joyful Noise.
Parton’s death was announced via her official Instagram post by her nephew, Bryan Seaver on behalf of the Parton family. He shared the news in a video statement. You can see that below.
