Cady McClain IN As DAYS Jennifer Temporarily Replacing Melissa Reeves

Photos: JPI

Rumors that have been swirling are confirmed true.  Cady McClain is coming to Salem and Days of our Lives to replace Melissa Reeves temporarily as the new Jennifer Horton Deveraux.  The casting news was confirmed by a Days spokesperson, according to Soap Opera Digest.

Daytime fans recall, Cady is a two-time Daytime Emmy winner and has previously appeared as Dixie on All My Children, Rosanna on As the World Turns and Kelly on The Young and the Restless.  McClain has already begun filming as Jennifer.

Reeves, who commutes from Nashville to Los Angeles to tape episodes of Days of our Lives, decided not to return to set when the NBC soap opera resumed production earlier this month due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic,

In addition, Melissa became a grandmother last month with her daughter Emily’s first child, and now soon will welcome her son Larry’s first child later this month, which is another reason Reeves chose to stay put in Tennessee.

So, what do you think of the Jennifer switcheroo? Excited to see what Cady brings to the role? Comment below.

Cady McClain is great, but Jennifer will be hard to recast for long-time fans. It might have been better to just send Jennifer out of town for a while. Still, as a casual fan, I will enjoy seeing Cady back on TV!

i don’t see why not? wouldn’t it be nice to see staring back at you… something more than deer stuck in headlight? I’m no fan of dixie cooney, yet she would be a daring breath of fresh air. perhaps even Jack would be more passionate.. he’s still got it, somewhere I’m hoping with JJ back… AND Marci Miller as Abs… this once again.. family intact WITH DAD can reinvigorate . Hurrah! why not ! @DAYS can use her smelly paycheck for other actors who REEL she’s reeked for a long time… and if another one’ Grans Jewel can be fired…… Read more »

Anita: I find it so hard to believe that @DAYS RON C… should have done a better job w/Eve… WITH Jack… there was a certain hinderance to wanting Jack to be a bad boy… argh! wait for Jenny Bear. yet we all knew Jack and Eve passionISTA. Ta Da ! so yeah !!!! I certainly do not see ??? Jennifer DOING ANY THING for Jacks all around uproarious flirty trysts , benders, even manhandling … just seeing him stretch his acting chop. see that ^^^^^ pic above with Melissa Reeves… tighten up your bun Jenny Bear. she so reminds me… Read more »

That’s true—-albeit, Jenny was never much to my liking, it will be weird watching someone else in the role. I do like Cady very much, but it will take a while getting used to her as Jennifer. One little comment—what woman in her right mind sends her husband ( newlywed at that) to the other side of the world with such noblesse? Nicole has surely come a long way from her insane days. Not I—I guess I’m selfish and inconsiderate? Methinks the writers should have come up with a more viable and satisfactory reason—-oh, I don’t know—send Eric off on… Read more »

Hi Celia, Here is something we can agree on I hope. I think they have other plans for Nicolle, another man I bet. I don’t think she’s ever been very long without one. I can’t see her sitting around being the good little wife while her husband is off doing good work, even though she does have a child hidden away somewhere and also what would poor Allie do without a nanny to take care of her baby while she runs all over town accusing Chip of raping her while she was so drunk she didn’t have a clue who… Read more »

THIs is what I am talking about. No offense, but this might finally give Jennifer Rose Horton some depth, in terms of being a character. I know some are saying it is a temporary casting, but others are saying it is permanent, and I hope it is permanent. Buh-bye, Melissa Reeves! This was long overdue!

Cady can do for Jennifer what Lindsay Hartley did for Sam on GH – suddenly make her relevant and interesting again.

My bet is that TPTB are keeping their options open. If Cady works out, “temporary” might become “permanent,” especially if Melissa’s leave of absence drags on. If viewers don’t accept her as Jennifer–and Reeves has a very passionate fan base, so that’s a real possibility–then they have “Oh, it was always meant to be temporary” to fall back on.

Cady’s fantastic; I’ll be interested to see what she brings to the role.

WOW it’s just the best… in terms of NOT HAVING 8 plus months ‘in the can

when production restarted September, 1st… they had thru the Middle of October bagged

so in terms of being streamlined with the other shows… THIS IS IT FAN. forever hold your piece…

let’s be “grand” overtly speak about

Melissa is the one and only Jen…and is the Horton home gone for good?-what is the real reason Will and Sonny were written out???…Once Nina finds out Nelle is her daughter on GH im done with soaps!!!

Will & Sonny were written out because they were played by terrible actors who couldn’t remember their lines. I’m not trying to be mean, I’m sure they are nice people, but their acting was painful to watch.

Francine, Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey were known as the “one take wonders” on the Days set, meaning they filmed their scenes in one take. That means they knew their lines and saved time and money for the production. You may not have cared for their acting, but it’s inaccurate to say they couldn’t remember their lines. Anyone interested in learning more about this will (pun intended) find it in Freddie’s podcast.

Well chandler got 3 Emmy’s and freddie got 1 so the acting definitely wasn’t that bad….ijs

As much as I will miss Missy as Jennifer, I can’t blame her for wanting to be protective for herself and her family. God damn COVID!!! I am happy for her being a grandmother though.

Temporary?? Yeah, we’ll see about that…..

Though at least they hired a legitimate actress this time, and didn’t change to a near-lookalike literally in the middle of a scene like they did with that whole Stephanie Cameron fiasco several years back.

Not an AMC fan so not really familiar with Cady’s work. But if she’s not a racist Candace Owens fan shilling for a homophobic fast food chain, that’s already an improvement, right?

Glad MR is putting her health & family first!! There’s been a lot of drama swirling around her for awhile so, I hope it works out. As a fan of the Johnson family, I hope we don’t start seeing these characters disappear.

I like Melissa and I remember her as Jade from Santa Barbara. I like her as Jennifer on Days and I will miss seeing her. But I’m happy for her to be able to enjoy time with her new grandchildren. ….something sweet for her to look forward to during this new normal.

CONGRATULATIONS to Cady McClain! HOORAY for viewers! Cady has the talent and heart to add depth to the character of Jennifer. I, too, hope this casting change becomes permanent. I now have a reason to watch Days again.

A huge win for Days viewers . . . and for Melissa Reeves who now has more time to enjoy her grandchildren and Chik-Fil-A.

49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards: General Hospital, B&B’s John McCook and Y&R’s Mishael Morgan Take Top Honors

Friday night, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ (NATAS) 49th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were handed out in 15 categories on a live telecast on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.  When the dust settled, it was ABC’s General Hospital who took the night’s top prize for Outstanding Daytime Drama Series.

This marks GH’s continued record-breaking number of wins in this category and brings it up to 15 victories for the iconic show, which is currently in its 59th year on the air.  GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini accepted the award on behalf of everyone connected with the show, when Drew Barrymore presented the final award of the night.

The night also brought with it the historic win of The Young and the Restless’ Mishael Morgan (Amanda Sinclair). The actress became the first black actress in Daytime Emmy history to ever take home the Lead Actress Daytime Emmy.  In the emotional highpoint of the evening, in terms of acceptance speeches and significance, Morgan spoke to the current generation breaking glass ceilings.

Morgan expressed: “We are breaking glass ceilings left right and center and I am so honored to be a vessel and to experience this moment. Everybody out there today, we can do this thing called equality and unity together.”  In her speech, Mishael shared: “I was born on a tiny island in the Caribbean, and I’m now standing on an international stage and I am being honored regardless of the color of my skin, regardless of my passport, for being the best at what I do, Now there are little girls around the world and no matter what the industry, the vocation they can strive to be the best.”

Veteran actor, John McCook who has played Eric Forrrester on The Bold and the Beautiful for over 35 years, finally won his first ever Emmy after four previous nominations in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

The Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series trophies went to two standouts from General Hospital, Kelly Thiebaud (Britt) and Jeff Kober (Cyrus), while Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Spencer), added another mantle to the GH trophy case with his first win for Outstanding Younger Performer.

Days of our Lives writing team led by Ron Carlivati took home the gold for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series, while GH won for Direction.

The biggest winner in terms of total gold belonged to The Kelly Clarkson Show. When all was said and done, between the Creative Arts ceremonies held last weekend, and last night, the talk show took home 7 awards including: Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Talk Show Host. General Hospital followed with five total wins for Daytime Emmys 2022.

The ceremonies featured DAYS Suzanne Rogers (Maggie) anchoring the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation to her longtime co-star John Aniston (Victor), who was not present, with the help of John’s daughter, Jennifer Aniston, who was seen on tape.

Susan Lucci (Ex-Erica, All My Children) made her first public appearance since the passing of her beloved husband, Helmut Huber and introduced the In Memoriam segment.  Grammy-winner Michael Bolton performed his classic tune “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” during the tribute.

Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner were the hosts for the telecast, and with the overturning of the Supreme Court Roe vs. Wade decision on everyone’s mind last night, Turner gave a nod to how she and so many others felt, when Frazier told her how nice she looked in her dress. Nishcelle commented, “I chose this dress. It was my choice.”  That moment received huge applause from the audience in attendance.

Check out the full winners circle list from last night’s 49th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards below.

Lamon Archey and Sal Stowers Exit Days of our Lives

Coming up on Days of our Lives, both Lani and Eli Grant will be written off the canvas to facilitate the departures of Lamon Archey (Eli) and Sal Stowers (Lani).

According to the latest issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now, Archey who stepped into the role in 2017, has made the decision to leave the long-running NBC soap opera, and will last air the week of July 4.

As for Stowers, she will last air on Friday, July 1st, and given her current storyline, it looks like Lani, who has confessed to murdering TJ (William Christian), will either be sent to prison, or will exit Salem with Eli.

This would not be the first-time that Stowers has departed DAYS.  After her debut in 2015, she was off the Salem canvas for a six-month break in 2016, before returning to the show through 2022.

We will share more information on Lamon and Sal’s exits as it comes to light.

Thompson, a previous Emmy-winner, who is up in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series category, shared the news via an Instagram video and also expressing in his post: “After 2.5 years of dodging Covid…I finally tested positive! To all my fellow nominees and friends, I wish you all the best, have a fantastic night celebrating what we do. To the best fans in the world, like most of you I will be watching from home cheering on our favorites on @cbstv!! Thank you for an amazing year @youngandrestlesscbs and @sonypictures. It was about to come true, until I tested positive for Covid yesterday afternoon. I’m so disappointed that I won’t be able to celebrate with everyone on Friday. I’ve cried lots of tears.  Thankfully, I’m asymptomatic. I’m super grateful no one in our home is sick. What a blessing.  To my Daytime community, have the best time.
