Cameron Mathison Tells Jennifer Hudson How Much Everyone is Hating on General Hospital’s Drew Quartermaine

Today on the syndicated talker, The Jennifer Hudson Show, the EGOT winner welcomed six of the cast members of General Hospital including Cameron Mathison (Drew Quartermaine).

Hudson was already alerted by her production staff, that she had heard that people are not currently happy with his GH character of Drew, due to the seemingly about face of this once good-guy hero.

In response to Jennifer, Mathison explained the dislike of the recent machinations of Drew, which obviously include, Drew having sex with his nephew Michael’s wife, Willow, (Katelyn MacMullen) and now telling Anna Devane that he should rid Port Charles of organized crime and put Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Drew’s brother, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) behind bars, and more.

Cameron explained how he is actually enjoying the “questionable” Drew’s actions of late, sharing, “So the thing is… I’ve almost only played like the good guy, the hero, in almost everything I’ve done. So, in the last eight months, it’s been quite different for Drew.”

In terms of the fan response to his character, Mathison added, “Many times I’ve heard from people, a lot of aggression. But one time in particular, at a supermarket, somebody recognized me. They were like, ‘very excited to meet you,’ and then quickly shifted to, ‘I hate what Drew Cane’s doing,’ and grabbed an apple and threw it at me from across the produce section. So that was new for me.”

Accepting Drew’s current storyline path, Mathison added, “It could be worse. The key is that people feel strongly about your character; whether they like you strongly or don’t like you, right? It’s that neutral area that you don’t want. So I’ll take it.”

In addition to fans hating on on Drew, Hudson asked Mathison how he is doing since losing his beloved home last month in the recent Los Angeles wildfires and more.

You can check out the segment below.

So, are you “hating” on Drew, too? Let us know in the comment section below.

i would rather just see Nina move to Washington DC with Drew and be rid of both of them. I hate the idea of a Jason & Sasha pairing – it smacks of the storyline early in Sam’s arrival, her pregnancy by Sonny, this brings Jason and Sam closer. The age difference is too much.

Love Nina. Cynthia Watros is a mega talented actress who can break your heart, make you laugh and make you cringe. Nobody plays awkwardness as well as she can. And she’s too damn good for both Drew and Willow.

I agree, Cynthia is Awesome.

That she’s us, Devin. Thank you.

Cameron does look like a very decent guy… I agree that it’s Drew we dislike. We should congratulate him for play the bad guy very well.

Everything you say is true, and in my head I know it’s very unreasonable to hate him the way we do and I know it also means he’s doing a good job BUT can’t help how it just disgusts ne seeing him on screen, even his new game show. So nice that he’s proud of his work. I don’t watch his scenes anymore, unless I have to, because of the others in them.

Hello Violet

I agree with everything you said too. With all that we are dealing with worldwide, I am trying not to “hate” people for situations we find ourselves in. Always enjoy reading your posts and your wisdom you have being 92.

I guess. But about a year prior to his character’s hookup with Willow, the actor said in an interview that he’d like to see Drew hook up with Willow. Everyone was rather repulsed by this implausible idea but thought it wouldn’t happen. Hard to believe Cameron didn’t pull some strings to make this happen.

Oh! I did not know that….

Getting so I can’t stand Drew OR Cameron! And he used to be a fave of mine. And Willow! Used to like her, now I hate her!

Drew shouldn’t even be Drew Cain. He’s nothing like the strong character Billy Miller brought to the role. It’s like that are they different characters (and it’s, I’m in the “We hate Drew” club now.

Oh, yes. To me, that Cameron Mathison dude will NEVER EVER be the REAL ACTOR that Billy Miller was!!!!! NOT HAPPENING…EVER!!!!!

i hate drew but i know that cameron is not that guy please dont hate this man he is only an actor playing a role

I’m starting to enjoy Drew as a villain. IMO, GH hasn’t done a good job of having long term villains. They get a villain who is a criminal and then becomes a worse criminal (i.e. a murderer) so they have to eventually be murdered. Drew is a Q and anytime Qs can be front and center, I’m happy. I’m hoping GH realizes they can make Drew a villain and NOT be a criminal. I’m here for it. And yes, there is Sonny, but he’s the “mobster with a heart of gold” (insert barf here). I want a real soap villain who is sneaky and shady, but not a flat out criminal. And the fact that he’s a politician is really perfect. I wish people would give it a chance. I’d like to understand why Jcch (not picking on you, just asking) wants them gone? Should all characters that cause problems be gone? That makes for a boring soap. Personally, I’m cautiously optimistic that Drew could be a long term villain. And if things don’t work out between Ric & Ava, I’d love Drew & Ava be the town villainous couple.

Best comment here. The “I Hate Drew Crew” is a bit much. Drew has done no worse than the folks pointing the finger at him and the viewers who excuse those folks.

Drew character is awful waste of screen time. Write Drew off GH. The one and only Drew was the late Billy Miller. No one else can ever come close.

I hate the characters Drew and Willow and Nina on General Hospital. I wish they would all leave Port Charles and go to
Washington. I so hope that Drew and Willow lose their children to Michael’s family and Alexis’s.

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
