Chad Duell Exits General Hospital as Michael Corinthos
Another longtime cast member of General Hospital is leaving the ABC daytime drama series. Now comes word from Chad Duell, himself, that he has made the decision to exit the role of Michael Corinthos.
Duell came to GH to play the part of Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son (Michael is the biological son of AJ Quartermaine), following his predecessor Drew Garrett starting in 2010, and has remained with the soap for more than 14 years. He is a seven-time Daytime Emmy nominee (6 for GH and 1 for The Bay), and picked up the gold back in 2015 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his work as Michael on General Hospital.
Taking to his Instagram, Chad shared, “After many incredible years with General Hospital, I’ve decided to step away from the show. This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life. I’m beyond grateful to Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and everyone behind the scenes who have been like family to me throughout this amazing journey.”

In addition, he gave a special ‘shout out’ to GH viewers, expressing, “To all the fans: thank you from the bottom of my heart for your unwavering support and for letting Michael Corinthos be a part of your lives. Your love and encouragement has meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later.”
Chad closed his goodbye message with “Much love, Chad.” Two of Duell’s on-screen siblings commented on his departure post. Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) joked, “Who wrote this for you…. Just kidding. I love you Cheddar❤️” While, Eden McCoy (Josslyn) simply shared, “I love you.” In addition, Chad’s on-screen mom, Laura Wright (Carly) shared her reaction to the news: “🥰🥰🥰 still mad !! But I adore you !!!” Meanwhile, Duell’s on-screen wife, Katelyn MacMullen (Willow) added, “Love you, Chad!!!!” Sofia Mattsson (Sasha) posted, “You will be so missed!!!! ❤️ Excited to see what’s next!”

On a recent episode of GH, Duell had been temporarily replaced by Robert Adamson (ex-Noah, Y&R) who has filled-in for him once before in 2022. No word yet on if the show will recast, or what the fate of Michael will be.
Currently, in story, Michael has been reeling from the fact that his wife, Willow is for all intent and purposes, having an affair with his uncle Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison), and in reaction, he hit the sheets with his ex, Sasha Gilmore, who now may be pregnant with his child.
Are you sad to learn the news that Chad Duell is departing General Hospital? What should GH do now with the character of Michael … recast or write the character off the canvas for now? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

This was not the announcement I was expecting to see today. Yes, I liked Chad Duell as Michael, but also felt like he was resting in the role for quite a while. Part of me hopes we get Robert Adamson full-time in the role… but I’m also hoping we get to rest the character of Michael until mid-2025. Wishing Mr. Duell the best wherever he may take his career.
I agree with you Robert Adamson is the perfect person to play this character, Chad has been boring and lackluster for so long
Not true he acted the part and script that was given to him!
I don’t see how we can “rest” Chad and continue the Dru and Willow debacle? What, make believe he’s not there? I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving at the Q’s, bet they’ll be served more than their usual Pizza, how about some on screen Playroom frolicking instead? Oh, then Sasha can serve up some baby news of her own, courtesy of Michael. Let’s put a little whipped cream on that one!
It’s easy: Michael divorces Willow, leaves Port Charles with the kids, and she can raise Scout outside of Port Charles with Drew when they eventually leave.
NOOOO… Too many losses lately on GH!
With Frank’s comment that there’s good story for Michael and his family, it wouldn’t be surprising to hear Katelyn MacMullen is departing as Willow as well.
Good Riddence, I say!
Chad was a nuance actor. Very skilled actor no over dramatics just good solid acting he will be missed!
Devasted we’re losing Chad Duell, he fit the role perfectly. The storyline took a complete flip, Willow and Michael had a cozy little family. They had so much to be thankful for. He was always a breath of fresh air on show. I can’t imagine how he will be replaced or how the Michael/Willow fairytale saga will end. Curse you Drew Quartermaine!
I think that they should hire another actor instead of killing off CHARACTERS. Or let them go somewhere for awhile instead of off to jail or to an insane asylum… Move to another state something. Other than dying .NEED WRITERS THAT DO CARE ABOUT THE SHOW…
I can’t agree more. The writers suck. Killing off beloved characters. Messing up nice family storyline. Ruining great connections. Michael and willows family was perfect with the kids. They fought so hard through her cancer battle. They ruined the great love relationship with Gregory, Finn, violet and chase. The ultimate error was tearing apart the great family love and chemistry between Alexis and her 3 girls and the sisters by killing off Sam and leaving her kids with no mom. It’s like they don’t believe in happiness and family and history. Bringing back people we don’t care about an̈d removing ones we do. Also ruined all the great chemistry Laura had with the old cute Nicolas not the current one. Andshe had great chemistry and love with Spencer. But he chose to leave. She’s good with all her grandkids too. Sad to see this soap decline and be so unwatchable that we don’t care anymore
Michael is NOT being killed off – directly from Frank.
kill off michael by drew and send him to prison for ever!
No, he’s not being killed off. However, many beloved characters are leaving GH one way or another. We’d like to know, “WHY”?
Horrible new writers. We all can do way better
I’d never want a “fan” to write for this soap, and both writers aren’t “new,” either.
This is not a good thing at all. Michael is a Quartermaine & Spencer by birth and a Corinthos by adoption. He’s the ultimate GH “legacy kid” and arguably the central character of the show since he’s literally related to damn near everybody. Even if he’s not written as the lead character, logic suggests that would be the path going forward.
So sick of this it appears that the toxicity in the show is too much for actors to continue.
I love Chad as Michael. No one can replace bim.
Too bad he wasn’t more like his Uncle Jason, than the other creep! Hope they get someone completely different looking, i.e Rbt. Adamson for his replacement.
I hope they find someone other than Adamson
I never felt he did justice to the part
No umph. Just dry
I don’t think he’s a good enough actor
Why are they killing the show piece by piece
How long do they think the fans are going to continue to be fans with this garbage that they’re doing
I totally agree!
No offense to that specific actor & no criticisms of his acting skills… He just simply doesn’t give Michael Corinthos! Of course, Chad’s the best for the role, but hopefully there’s someone else out there that could pull it off. I can’t see how it could work to lose the character of Michael. I mean, Carly & Sonny already lost Morgan… Ya know?!
I agree with you 100 percent. Nobody can replaced Chad as Michael.
I couldn’t agree more. No offense to the young man who has periodically filled in for Chad but there is only one Michael Corinthos for me. I just hope they write it so the door remains open for his return. Replace him for awhile if necessary ( Although it just won’t be the same) Or have him head off to run ELQ’s London office . He can take Sasha and new bambino on the way and at least Wiley . Maybe the baby stays w/ Mrs. unfaithful? Idk but don’t close the door on Chad returning please!
Not a complete surprise as there were rumors floating for a while. Wish him welll. Might be time for a break from the character
Thank God
I hope they do a recast of the character
They’re not at this time.
Recast but if Chad decides to come back let him. He is ” Michael Corinthos”
Shocked! There must be a lot of BS going on at ABC…please don’t kill the soap! Invest in writers i stead of sets and wardrobe budgets!
One by one they are either being killed off or being changed. I don’t know if I wanna watch it anymore!
I like him in the role of Michael. I will miss him. Good actor!
I am sad. But it is his decision to make. I wish him well and luck! (As long as the writers don’t kill off Michael.)
Michael is great! hate for him to leave but he is great deserves to live the best life. he has a great family and loves them dearly.Chad stay strong live ,love, and be good to yourself.
Wish Chad all the best. GH is on a downward spiral. Too many favorites leaving and too many padt characters coming back. Stories are boring.
True that,sad
I don’t blame him and I wish him well. The Michael character is neither here nor there. Seems like a bore to play him…or at least after 14 years. Best wishes to Chad to find something that challenges and fulfills him.
There won’t be A General Hospital at the rate there Going
That’s for sure
I do not want to see Chad.Love him as Michael corentos. He is a wonderful actor and he needs to stay on.We will surely miss him, please.Michael reconsider
Sorry to hear this. I really enjoyed Chad in this role. Since it’s Chad’s idea to step down, I would love to see Darin Brooks play the role. Darin could add his quirky kind of humor to the role plus give it his own special spin to the character. Just an idea. I wish Chad a lot of success and happiness in his future.
I have watched Chad develop into a outstanding Charactor i wish he would finish this storyline out would love to see him become a villian I wish him well you will be missed
Brooks is well suited to play Dillon – a character that needs to come back, although there may be a “no vacancy” sign outside of the Q front door these days.
It is a sad day when he leaves. I have been watching GH since I was little and I am 61. Hope you don’t get rid of his character
I will miss his handsome face and chemistry he has with sonny and Carly. I think that Sasha and should not get together, but Jason and Sasha. Please don’t let Sasha be pregnant. Michael and willow split, but not divorce . Michael need a break from love. Please leave chase and Brooklyn alone.
In time,it won’t even be GH anymore.
Everyone is getting fired,or just leaving .
It’s horrible.
Give Michael a rest….
It’s sad to see chad go.. he’s been Michael corinothos for so many years. Please come back
I can’t take this. First Kelly. Now Chad. He is Michael and no one can play him. So sorry to see him leave. This is very sad for GH
I love Chad as Michal C. No one can replace him.
I ain’t mad at Chad Duell for leaving. Better to get out , before the writers turn Michael an abomination and ruin the character. Good luck on your new path
Nooo! When he first joined I hated that they replaced Garrett after just one year. Because I thought Garrett looked the part more. But in no time the Duell grew on me,and now is one of my favorite characters on the show. I can’t see him being replaced, but Michael is a character that needs to be on GH. I’m torn on what they should do. I just hate seeing Duell go.
I think it is time for me to move on also. I am getting bored with the comings and going.
Why is he leaving the show
People become actors to play different roles and I’m sure that is why he is moving on.
Maybe h’es leaving because he’s as pissed as we are with his role. How, as Michael, he can hold it together while listening to all the lies and excuses coming out of Drew’s mouth, while wanting to knock him on his ass! I sure hope Drew gets what he deserves, knowing it was Michael that gave it to him.
I’ll take clutching your pearls over a soap opera for $2000.
He is a big part of GH I think they should recast his role with a replacement and not cast him off the show but he well forever be missed he was a great Micheal Corinthos I’ve been watching for over 35 years thank you GH Iove the show
Please don’t let him go. Do anything you can to keep him on the show. Please don’t let him go. I love him and Willow together. Don’t let Drew run him off. Too many good people are leaving the show it makes me sad
The character has become insufferable the past few years. Maybe time to take a break
Hate to see Chad leaving, won’t be the same without him, like Robert but can’t even think abt a different Michael, will seem weird but I don’t want him to be killed off
Recast please don’t write him off love you Chad please come bac you are going to be so missed
Great disappointment in hearing the news about Chad’s exit. Praying that he will return in the future. Also praying that he has good fortune in his coming endeavors. Chad, take care of your beautiful family. Hugs and kisses to you all. Good Luck!
Was not expected.since. since it happening they need to recast and have Michael join Sonnys world.
Michael should be recast
I hope CD comes back as AJ and Carlys son he’s a great performer and theirs still story to tell with Michael such as he may be Aces secret father and that Amelia may not be his daughter after all.
Is that you Cecil? Still making unfounded storyline adjustments?
Did Micheal even know Esma??
What the hell has happened with this show?
This is terrible. First Kelly. Now Chad. He is Michael and no one can play him.
This really sucks, he is one of my favorite characters, and the stand in just does not come close
You will be missed on the show that’s for sure
Why Michael fight his own battles instead of having Jason fight them?
Recast Michael Please love the character
I’ve never had any good love towards Chad’s portrayal of Michael though, I do like the character.
I can see much more tension between Robert Adamson’s portrayal with both Sasha and Willow. Never felt it with Chad.
I feel the exact opposite
Yes Michael is needed please don’t go! no one can replace him I don’t care who they cast it seems like GH is toxic what’s really going on?
I am shocked. Wonder if he’s heading to CBS? Will Adamson step in permanently
I’m not surprised by this the writers have ruined the show.
They sure have. Seems there is probably a lot of drama on the set with all the firings. I have heard their ratings aren’t the greatest and they may get the boot off ABC.
If you do replace Chad please don’t let it be Robert Adamson, sorry don’t think he fits the Micheal role, but that’s just my opinion
What in the world is going on at GH? Ever since they changed writers and then backtracked on the change, this has been messy.
You just answered your own question, it’s the so-called writers!
Not exactly surprising news. There have been rumors about Chad leaving for a while. I’ve liked him as Michael, but he has seemed to be kind of going through the motions and phoning it in at times, in recent years. Which is probably on the writing as much as anything else. Don’t blame him for wanting to step away, maybe do some new things. My best to him.
I would say they should give the character of Michael a break for a while. Down the road, if Chad wants to return, great. If not, then recast . And I would be fine with Robert Adamson taking over the role. I think he’s done a fine job during the times he’s filled in for Chad in recent years.
But man, what a turnover in the GH cast this year. Roger Howarth, Michael Easton, Kelly Monaco let go. Kin Shriner, Tristan Rogers, James Patrick Stuart, Kathleen Gati, Robert Gossett, Alley Mills among others, written out.
How about take his salary and use it towards @KellyMonicos return?????
Kelly Monaco isn’t coming back; move on.
How do you know? Move out of your mom’s house
Watch out Mimi, the house may just fall on you.
Chad was the reason I started watching GH again and he was so good from the beginning. So I’m sad. I hope he comes back someday
This is a mistake…clean up his role…rewrite making him a stable character that will bring an upbeat and long term image w/leadership qualities as there are too many shipwrecked personalities in GH. There are too many people out there in the real world politically. Thus allow for people of promise to be put in uplifting roles emulating John Beradino and good role models. Thank you.
This news really tears me apart. Chad has been a favorite of mine for years. There have been so many changes on General Hospital and I’ve been watching it since it premiered! Although I wish the best for Chad and whatever he’s getting ready to accomplish in his life, I pray the writers do him justice and do not write him off the canvas completely, I don’t like the direction General Hospital is going in at all and have not for the past year or so. There was a time when I couldn’t wait to watch it and now I wait till it’s on Hulu and fast-forward through a lot of it this is not what I want, but this is what has become a General Hospital for me , please do something with your storylines and stop blowing up families that do not need to be messed with. I truly hate what happened to Cody and Sasha? They both deserved happiness and they’re blown up too. I pray that Dante and Lulu find their way back to each other and that it doesn’t take forever on canvas for this to happen. Chad please don’t take forever to come back to General Hospital because I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna watch this soap opera without you
Seems like GH has a toxic work environment there and difficult work place much like the first term of Donald trumps with his large turnover!
Either the actors “die off” on screen or they die off in real life must be very very stressful to work at GH
I can’t wait until Donald drops dead too.
Well, I don’t know..
For one thing, I’m not in any hurry to have him down here.
Aside from that, do you think the couch er… “abuser” would be any better?
That may be the one thing that saves us!

Dolly Parton Remembered: Y&R Alum Alyvia Alyn Lind Shares Heartfelt Tribute to the Legendary Singer and Songwriter

The world is in mourning on Tuesday, August 25 with the news of the passing of iconic and beloved country western singer/songwriter/actress Dolly Parton. The 11-time Grammy winner crafted and performed memorable hits such as “Jolene,” “I Will Always Love You,” 9 to 5″, and “Here You Come Again, ” to name but a few.
Parton died in Nashville today. She was 80-years-old. Not only was Dolly an iconic name in the world of music, she was also an actor, producer, playwright, theme park founder (Dollywood), and a noted philanthropist.
One of the people lucky enough to know and experience the life of Dolly through a different lens was Alyvia Alyn Lind, the one time Faith Newman of The Young and the Restless. Lind played the role of Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon’s (Sharon Case) daughter on and off from 2011-2021.

ALVIA ALYN LIND PLAYED A YOUNG DOLLY
However, it was Lind, who portrayed a young Dolly in the television movie adaption of Parton’s song and book “A Coat of Many Colors” in 2015, and its sequel in 2016 Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love.
Parton and Lind shared a close bond following the project, famously performing a touching, emotional duet of Parton’s song “Angel Hill” together on Hallmark’s Home & Family.
Taking to her Instagram just a short time ago, Alyvia paid tribute to the one and only Parton, expressing, “I am truly at a loss for words. There are some people who come into your life and leave a mark that can never be erased. Dolly was one of those people. will forever be grateful that I had the privilege of knowing her, learning from her, and carrying a piece of her with me through such an important and formative part of my childhood. Getting to play Dolly changed my life, but getting to know her changed my heart. Memories, lessons, laughter, and a light that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”
Alyvia added, “The world will never be the same without her, but that light will live on in all of us who were lucky enough to experience it. Thank you for believing in me, for teaching me, for letting me be a small part of your story, and for being such a meaningful part of mine. Rest peacefully, Dolly. You will be missed more than words can ever say. Thank you for everything. ❤️
FAMILY ANNOUNCES THE DEATH OF DOLLY PARTON
Parton also starred alongside Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman in the smash 1980 film 9 to 5, and later roles in films including: The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Rhinestone, Steel Magnolias, Straight Talk, and Joyful Noise.
Parton’s death was announced via her official Instagram post by her nephew, Bryan Seaver on behalf of the Parton family. He shared the news in a video statement. You can see that below.

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.
Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).
As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.
Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen. The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day. Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking. The adults would, but not Hayden. I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”
Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”
Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”
Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”
Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Photo: CBS
Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”
Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”
Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Photo: CestenIG
Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”
“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”
“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”
Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️
Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”
Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.
As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.
Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

Photo: ABC
FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.
Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).
He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

Photo: ABC
SECOND STOP, SALEM
Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”
Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”
DEVLIN’S WIG
The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions
“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.
JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN
The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”
As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.
Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.
Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits?
