Coming up, look for some fun scenes between Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Jane Elliot (Tracy Quartermaine) on General Hospital.  According to Steve Burton on the latest episode of the Daily Drama podcast with his co-host with Bradford Anderson, he had a blast getting to mix-it up with the beloved soap vet.

In addition, Steve and Bradford took a few moments to recall wonderful moments with the Quartermaine family through the years, and those we have lost including: Stuart Damon (Alan), Bergen Williams (Alice) and John Ingle (Edward). As viewers know, Jason was born Jason Quartermaine, before the car crash that injured his brain where he later took on the name and more steely personality of Jason Morgan.

Steve previewed, “Me (Jason) and Tracy have some funny scenes, coming up … well, she’s funny. So, that’s a good spoiler right there.” He added, “Jane said, ‘I had so much fun doing scenes with you (last week).’ I go, “I know! It just reminds me of all the holidays we (Quartermaines) spent together in the foyer and in the den and all those scenes we did.”

The two-time Daytime Emmy-winner shared that he also told Jane, “I know you probably had a great time before I got here, but as a Quartermaine family together there are just so many memories.” While Jane replied, ‘That was definitely a special time for everybody.”

Later, Bradford got Steve a bit misty when he mentioned the names of his on-screen father, played by Stuart Damon and grandfather, John Ingle. “I looked up on You Tube the Jingle Jackal storyline, because I reference it in our holiday show coming up,” recounted Anderson. “I wanted to make sure I got my details right. There is a beautiful scene where Alan has basically past, but in the scenes, Tracy can still see him and they still bicker. Monica can’t see him, and with Tracy continuing to bicker with Alan, it really upsets Monica, because she is like, ‘Don’t play this game. This hurts me when you do this.’ Bergen Williams was there, who we lost as well, and of course, Jane was there, and John Ingle was there.  It was just so cool to see that company.”

Are you looking forward to seeing the scenes between Jason and Tracy that Steve taped last week on GH? What are you favorite Quartermaine family memories as we head into Thanksgiving, where you that Turkey Day never goes off without a hitch  … and some pizza! Comment below.

I love anything Quartermaine. I hope they show a flashback since Monica can’t be there.

Jane Elliot is the goat, she really knows how to play in scenes with others, she’s that good, so its fun to see her with anyone because if she likes them you see the fun nice banter and if she foe with them its fun to see her go at them with her sharp tongue. So I’ll take Jane Elliot with anyone because it will be good regardless..

I look forward to these scenes. I love Jane/Tracy. I also admire Steve’s respect for the show’s legacy actors. And anytime GH gives us comedy (like in its hey dey) I love it. Laughter is the best medicine.

I’m actually sick of the pizza thing. So old now- just have a damn turkey!

I agree with that! Let this be the year where they actually have a THANKSGIVING dinner, and not pizza!…. AGAIN!

I just read a Spoiler, that if it’s true , will never be another like it! Pizza, be damned!

Come on it’s called tradition

Other than the great actors the one thing that keeps me watching GH is the true history of the story lines that come out from time to time, the special being one of them. I look forward to it. Bradford, I think we need you to sing again… Any chance of another cd?

Since Jason appears to be moving back to the Q mansion after 28 years away, I’m thinking there’s going to be an epic PizzaGiving at Monica’s house (Alan gave it to her) this year!

House and stables a male stronghold at last and really looking forward to Sasha having to feed probable carnivores and teens! Be happy please

I always love anything that is a reminder of the illustrious past on GH. I’ll give Frank Valentini credit for doing an admirable job honoring the history of the show, and keeping it alive as much as he can since he’s been running the show. That certainly wasn’t done under the Jill Farren Phelps regime, to say the least.

Jane Elliot is an icon and a treasure. She’s one of the last links left to the old Quartermaines. I’m glad she’s still on the show regularly, still doing great work, and as lovely as ever. I hope she continues acting for as many more years as she wants. Looking forward to the scenes with Jane and Steve Burton.

Wouldn’t be Thanksgiving with out the pizza’s

It definitely would not be Thanksgiving at the Quartermaines w/o the pizzas! When my husband & I were empty nesters & moved to FL, there were a couple Thanksgivings when we didn’t want to cook the turkey, but now that we’re back & our son is coming over, it’s turkey time!

Shawn and Tiffany

Who?

Sean and Tiffany Donelly. They were on the show back in the Luke/Laura/Robert/Holly days. They were the 3rd couple during all of their adventures in the 80’s, lol!

He passed away a couple of years ago, and the woman who played Tiffany, is quite ill. That’s why they had her call on the phone, instead of showing up to the funeral in person. Sean Donelly’s real life daughter was there though. It was a nice tribute to him.

The favorite I love of the Q Family is the Thanksgiving after Edward dies and the voiceover of John Ingle singing and then the whole family starts singing and Edward and Lilah walk up the steps together. I know they were both stunt people, but it was a wonderful tribute of the Patriarch and Matriarch of the Quartermaine Family.

I remember that too. It was just lovely. One of the most poignant scenes ever on GH!

Tracy and Jason aunt and nephew together again

I’ve never seen interactions with Jason and Tracy. It should be fun

Took way too long. I’ve been hoping for a revival of the Qs for a long time. Though many are no longer with us, the writers need to start writing for the ones who are. I love that Jason’s moving back in. They need group scenes: Tracy, Ned, Jason, Lois who was a Q back in the day, Brook Lynn..bring back Dillon and AJ. Find a way!

The Jason/Tracy scenes should be enjoyable. Having him back in the house will be interesting. Others (mainly Gio) need to depart.

As for Thanksgiving, predict that Sasha prepares a great looking meal but then has her first bout of morning sickness over the turkey causing Ned to call the pizza parlor.

Maybe killing off Sam was the event need to restocking the Quartermaine mansion… and a way to also have Jason willingly move back in.

Yes they’ve already gotten storylines from Sam’s passing. I’m excited to see the Q’s rocking it all under 1 roof .

Well… I am eating my words a little after reading about Chad Duell

Seems they built a story out of their decision to fire Kelly Monaco. Kelly feels their decision to fire her was out of “retaliation” for behind-the-scenes issues she had with them since Billy Miller’s passing.

We’re losing too many vets regardless of whether it was their decision to exit or they were let go.

This is so sweet to see! My name is Lynda and I’m Bergen’s sister. I know her fans really loved big alice and I’m working on a book now a memoir about her life if anyone’s interested look for it next year! Thank you so much for including bergen in your story. ❤️

Best of luck with your book, Alice was a treasure!

Always a pleasure when any of the Q’s are on. Now, with the additional move-ins, I imagine the house is brimming to overflowing with Q’s and Q-adjacent folks running around there. Monica would be in her glory, as would Lila. Edward, not so much. LOL!

I used to know Jane Elliott when we both lived in New Jersey. We met at an association meeting that led us to do some traveling in the area together and we went to movies and we talked a lot. She helped me emotionally when I was going through a divorce. I moved to the PNW. She traveled back to Calif via a stay in Ashland, Oregon . Then she returned to General Hospital and continued her reign as Tracey Q. I have not watched the show, but love her as a person.

Well, Lucky you! I didn’t care for her caustic and uppity airs, when I first started watching, but have grown to appreciate her work more, and now enjoy most of her scenes.

It’s always good to hear that the actor behind the character is a decent, intelligent, person. Because of social media we gèt to see the actors as themselves, and many times they’re unlikeable. You have to really suspend your disbelief when watching a show or film to not let your dislike for the actor interfere with your love for a character. Hearing such a glowing opinion of Jane is is a win-win. I always loved Tracy and am so glad she was bored enuf in her retirement to miss GH and come back, lol. Fingers crossed she stays on…

Oh, am looking forward to these scenes. What a welcome relief and treat to see Jane and Steve in one scene!

I love Thanksgiving with the Qs they are the best drama when Thanksgiving they always have pizza never fails love them ❤️ Happy Thanksgiving GH have some turkey

I was there and oh how I couldn’t wait to watch with my mom and 3pl EST. We only had 1 TV so my brother and I would fight all the time. He wanted to watch Batman and Beyond. Some many Friday cliffhangers…. I longed to one day be an actress and become Jason Morgan’s new love!!!! Happy Holidays all!!! Tameeka Williams NY

I am very happy to hear that Jane Elliott and Steve Burton have scenes together. With most of Quartermaine family deceased. It’s great that Tracy and Steve’s characters are finally together sharing scenes together. I can’t wait to see the episodes coming up. Thank you GH.

I’ve always wanted to have pizza on Thanksgiving because I don’t like turkey.

I love Tracey Q. Thanks for bringing her back. She’s as beautiful as ever and rocking her role. I am over the moon that Jason is back. I also love Carly, Sonny, Diane, Alexis, Maxie and Joclyn. Everyone who’s a part of their families makes the show ever lasting.

Congratulations are in order for General Hospital and Days of Our Lives favorite Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny and ex-Stefan/Jake, respectively) and his wife, Isabella Devoto Barash, who welcomed their newborn son, Sebastian Antonio Barash back on June 5.

For the first time his Sebastian’s birth the couple is posting and beaming with pride at the new addition to the family. This is Brandon and Isabella’s second child and second son together following the birth of Joaquin Lee Barash back in September of 2023. Barash is also the father of Harper Rose Barash from his previous marriage to General Hospital star, Kirsten Storms (Maxie) who is now 12-years-old and big sister to do younger brothers!

In his heartfelt post on Instagram accompanied by several photos of his growing family, Brandon expressed, “The heart is indeed a muscle, and boy, can it stretch. We welcomed our newest addition Sebastian Antonio Barash (Antonio after Isa’s dad) on 6.5.26. Lil Seba, I vow to love you with undying ferocity and without condition. As for our new family of five, we have all already evolved for the better as we rise like the lotus through the muck of sleepless nights, soul-tingling baby whimpers, and yes, poopy diapers. These babies teach us a clinic on love…all we need to do is saddle up, be still, and take em in. Isabella Barash, you’re my hero. Thank you for the gift of your love. House is full, hearts fuller.”

BRANDON’S BUDDIES CONGRATULATE HIM ON WELCOMING NEW SON

Several of Brandon’s former co-stars have already jumped in the commenting thread including, Rob Scott Wilson (Alex, DAYS) “Congrats my brotha!!,” Dan Feuerriegel (EJ, DAYD) and Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS), with whom Brandon appears with in the Day Players Band and more.

Back in April of this year, Brandon was granted an emergency restraining order against his ex-wife, Kirsten Storms claiming that the GH favorite was exhibiting concerning behavior and he feared for the well-being of their daughter, Harper. They each now live separate lives in Tennessee.

We send our well-wishes to Brandon, Isabella and their new son, Sebastian as they build their burgeoning family unit.

Take a look at Brandon and Isabella’s new little bundle of joy in the snaps below.

‘General Hospital’s’ Controversial Luke and Laura Rape Episode: Writer Sheri Anderson Reveals Behind the Scenes Decisions and Admits ‘I Was Wrong’ to Defend It (Exclusive)

Published

It’s one of the most controversial storylines in soap opera history, when Luke (the late Anthony Geary) raped Laura (Genie Francis) back in an episode that aired in 1979. In the story, one fateful night while believing his latest assignment for the mob would get him killed, Luke drank heavily, and confessed his love to Laura. She had been working at the disco at the time and tried to comfort him.

Luke said, “I’m not going to die without holding you in my arms just one time. Dance with me.” As Herb Alpert’s “Rise,” played in the background, Laura tried to leave as she was getting fearful of Luke. The camera panned away as Luke forced himself on her and Laura screamed, “No!” The aftermath also became a huge problem for the series years later. GH tried to pass it off as a seduction, while viewer outcry, and as the world evolved over the decades called it then and now what it was, “rape.”

The script writer for that episode was prolific soap opera writer and three-time Emmy winner, Sheri Anderson. The popular scribe is best-known for her work on Days of Our Lives and also her tenure as its co-head writer, but she also spent a few years at General Hospital smack dab in the late 70s and early 80s, under then legendary executive producer, Gloria Monty.

Photo: JPI

During her visit last week to the Michael Fairman Channel, where Anderson opened up about a specific moments throughout her storied writing career, as well as the state of the soaps now in our culture, she recalled the events that transpired before and after that led to her scripting the infamous rape episode on GH.

ABC NETWORK EXEC DECIDES LUKE SHOULD RAPE LAURA

Sheri began, “What happened was Pat Falken Smith (then head writer, GH) came in from a meeting and she was stoned-faced, and we said, ‘What’s going on?’ She said Jackie Smith, who was head of the network, wants Luke to rape Laura and we were like, ‘What? We can’t do that!” She said that’s what we were going to so, because we were exploring ‘date rape’ at the time.”

“So, on General Hospital, or any show that I’ve been involved with, we would get as much research as we could on the subject, especially when I was writing,” explained Anderson. “I would always send the script to a therapist and say, ‘is this accurate? Is this emotionally correct?'”

Anderson shared from the writers viewpoint what the story was about at that time: “Luke was from the wrong side of the tracks. He was trying to prove himself to the mob and they said to prove it, you have to go kill a senator Mitch Williams. Luke couldn’t go through with it, which meant he was a dead man. He went back to the Campus Disco which he owned and Laura was there. She was waiting for her husband (Scotty Baldwin). So, when Laura was trying to comfort Luke, things started to get out of control.”

THE COINED “SEDUCTION”

“The script which I wrote was 110 pages, which was typical at the time. Gloria Monty, who was a brilliant executive producer and director who changed daytime, was the director of that episode,” explained Anderson on the writing for the soap back in the late 70s. “They probably cut 30 pages of material, because she was so intent on the rape and making it as brutal as she could. So, we were just going forward and thinking, ‘Oh, my God! That was really awful.'”

Over decades, the moment was called as aforementioned, “a seduction,” a “date rape,” and then as GH viewers recalled, it was in 1998 that Luke admitted to his son Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) that he actually raped his mother, Laura.

ANDERSON COULD NO LONGER DEFEND THE STORY POINT

It is not lost on Anderson, how GH at the time, tried to pass off the on-screen incident, “In retrospect, and I believe Michelle Val Jean (creator, head-writer, executive producer of Beyond the Gates) once said that it upset her, that we would say it was really a ‘seduction’ and all of those things, because it was not. It was rape, and (back then) I would try to, in a sense, defend it, and frankly, I was wrong,” revealed Sheri.

“I wrote the rape episode and I actually wrote the episode after it and we had Emily McLaughlin who played nurse Jessie Brewer who came to me later and said, ‘thank you.’ Because she said, ‘I wrote the aftermath of it so poignantly for her and Genie,’ recalled Sheri. “Then, we had Irene Kassorla, the real-life therapist come in, and on the show do group therapy sessions. So, it was really fascinating for me  I thought that we were doing it extremely well, and I still think we did it extremely well. But, yes, it was rape, and it was wrong.”

GLORIA MONTY SWORE SHE WOULD NEVER MARRY LUKE AND LAURA

In an ironic twist, when Pat Falken Smith and Sheri left General Hospital to return to Days of Our Lives, suddenly Luke and Laura were getting married, after Gloria Monty swore she would never let them tie the knot. As soap fans know, the wedding remains the most-watched episode in soap opera in history with over 30 million people tuning-in on November 16 and 17 of 1981.

“People talk about that story thinking Luke raped Laura, and then they got married. No! Luke raped Laura, but it destroyed their lives with the secrets that they carried. Laura would not tell anybody that Luke was the one who raped her, and their lives were altered in so many ways. It took a long time to bring them back as a couple because they had such chemistry personally, so it was just the obvious way to go,” explained Anderson of the writers mindset at the time. “Gloria Monty said to us, ‘We’ll never marry them.’ Then, when as a writing team we left and went to Days of Our Lives, she married them two months later.”

You can catch our full informative chat with Sheri Anderson below.

So, what did you think about what really went on behind the scenes at General Hospital when the decision came down to have Luke rape Laura in the controversial scenes? Did you appreciate the insight provided by Sheri? Is it still one of the more troubling plot points in the storied history of Luke and Laura to you? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

Will Chase EVER get a grip and realize Willow is a manipulative woman capable of heinous crimes?

Next, Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) comes loaded for bear to Carly’s (Laura Wright) along with two men from the WSB. He tells her that.“We have reason to believe that Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) is on the premises.” Charlotte (Bluesy Burke) is also there at the time and the two could not look more nervous or suspicious if they tried. Is Valentin already searching Wyndemere for Josslyn (Eden McCoy) at the time of Cullum’s unexpected arrival at Carly’s, or is he still hiding in her attic? Stay tuned.
