On the heels of GH starting to air their Nurses’ Ball episodes this week, comes word that Constance Towers (Helena Cassadine) is making another return to the ABC daytime drama series during its 60th anniversary celebration.  However, it looks like she won’t be on-screen till next month.

According to a post from her official Facebook page, Towers has taped some scenes for inclusion in upcoming episodes of the show. Currently the airdates are May 5th and May 8th in time for May sweeps.

As for Towers, GH fans last saw her back in January 2022 when a video message from Helena, relishing Luke’s supposed death during his memorial, was played on the video monitors that shocked all the guests.

Following Helena’s death in 2015, Towers returned several other times in story whether it be in flashbacks or someone’s worst nightmare, and more.

Just how will Helena’s brief appearances shake up the story and the canvas on GH? Stay tuned.

What do you think of Constance Towers taping some new scenes as Helena? Will this be part of the resolution of the Luke mystery now that Tracy will be back on the canvas by that time, too? Share your thoughts and theories below.

Either another ghostly visit or flashback scenes for a potential end to the Victor Cassadine storyline?

I suspect this is going to be the full “director’s cut” version of the video we didn’t see a couple of years ago when Laura pulled the plug before it could finish playing.

What I can say for a fact, is that Helena is still in Hell, so she’s not going to be visiting Port Charles in the present tense.

I like the actress, she played Helena wonderfully but let the dead be dead. It just happens too much.

so good at being evil, glad she’s back

Constance turns 90 later in May. GH viewers are so fortunate to have this treasure appear from time to time. The diamond may be the ice princess, but Helena is the Ice Queen. Cool, calm and always elegant.

OG Steve, excellent points and prose. Bravo!

Yes they are.. she been awesome sence she took over for the later Tylor

Agree! I’ve adored her since day one. Always wished they put her on contract and made her more 3 dimensional while keeping her edge. I always loved her twisted relationships w her family, Laura, Luke, Lesley etc and wish they’d explored it all deeper. Wish they’d never killed her off. Especially now w Laura and so many Cassadines on right now, there’d be so much for her to be involved in.

PS to me, the Cassadines were at their best in the 90s to 2001. Helena, Stefan, Alexis, Nik & Starvos. Just wish TPTB had made Helena & Stavros more viable, 3D, longterm characters bc the actors were so good! Like Stavros being written a bit more like Stefan who was awesome! That was my favorite era of Spencer/ Cassadine feud too bc of so many different angles at play. And Alexis was at her absolute best in Cassadine stories, her pairing w Ned & as a fearless attorney.

My dream would be for Tyler Christopher to return as Nik, Helena back alive, and GH & Days sharing Stephen Nichols so he could play Stefan again. With Laura back, Victor, Spencer & Valentin now on and Alexis & her girls getting roped into Cassadine stories, the possibilities would be endless.

But right now it’s hard to be excited about a Spencer/ Cassadine feud w no Spencers. So many key players are missing like Luke, Helena, Stavros, Stefan, Nik, Lucky, Lulu, Lesley. With all of them on the feud would be epic!

Please let Luke be alive. Or if not let Helena be the one who stops Victor for good.

Can’t wait for May and for this storyline to hit our screens

Sorry, but I wish she’d stay gone. The character has just played itself out

I so agree!! Personally I can’t stand her on the show!! So over it!!

I agree with you. She needs to stay dead

i totally agree. let the dead stay dead. to me it takes away from the show bringing back ones that die time and time again. bring in a new cast member rather than all these ones back from the dead. she has been killed off way to many times.

No way.

I know this is all part of GH’s DNA but despite the top talents involved, I am rather weary of the endless Cassadine madness. What was an escapist adventure 40 years ago has sort of just stopped being interesting to me. Again, top talents and well presented. GH is great but still…

I think just the opposite. I love all the legacy families and GH has succeeded in wiping them out. The Quarteraines have no original members left except for Ned; there was no reason to send Dillon and Skye away, kill AJ off, and of course Alan Q was killed which was absurd. Same with the Cassadines; the show killed off Helena (supposedly), Stefan, Mikos, Stavros…so I personally welcome Helena back whether as a ghost, her final warning via video, etc. and hope they don’t kill off Victor. I’d like to have these legacy families remain; otherwise just rename the show to suit its cast of all-new-unrelated-to-anything or anyone of GH’s origins, characters.

I think she is the female boss that Mason keeps referring to when he’s talking to Austin.

I agree with you

Honey
Think youve got something there!,

Mason Jar-head has repeatedly said that his unseen boss was “family”. I doubt they would make Austin both a Quartermaine AND a Cassadine. Not to mention the Cassadines have never failed to be aware of the existence of other branches of the family, even if they don’t interact with them. Seems unlikely that Victor, Val, Nikolas, and Alexis would all be 666% unaware of this branch of the family tree, should it exist.

And besides – as I said – Helena is still down here in Hell! She’s not giving orders to anybody up there at the moment.

See I think that woman is Olivia Jerome.

I agree I think she has Nicholsas

I always enjoyed her exchanges with Luke. I don’t think she will become a permanent cast member.

She was a cast member for years.

I think it will be fun to see her again. I want my Luke back! I miss him sooo much!

Thrilled that Constance is coming back! Her Helena is a real Cassadine just like Tyler Christopher’s Nikolas and Stephen Nichols Stefan. The current Victor is a joke – he doesn’t have that Cassadine swagger or sophistication. He’s pathetic. The new Spencer isn’t a bad actor but he’s not a true Cassadine either. FV keeps changing GH and it’s ruining the show!

Is Frank perfect? No, but it’s quite a stretch to say he’s “ruining the show”. Ratings are up. Vets have been embedded in front burner storylines. The mob isn’t dominating screen time. Have there been some duds in casting, sure, but many of the newer cast (especially Spencer) are really good actors.

Even Gloria Monty and Wendy Riche kept the show fresh with new characters and storylines. Did they all work, heck no (Monty disastrously introduced the Eckerdt family).

Are the Cassadines as fearful as the 80s/90s version – no. Heck, the Quartermaines are a shadow of their former self, but both families are still part of the canvas 40+ years after they were introduced.

The current Quartermaines are a joke. The only original left is Ned who’s barely seen, and Brook Lynn, though not the original actress. They should never have killed AJ off, they should bring back Dillon and Skye (along with her daughter Lila Rae). Olivia, nuDrew, Michael CORINTHOS, Willow, and now, nauseatingly so, Carly in almost every “Quartermaine” scene is a soap travesty. I cringe every time someone mentions “the Quartermaines” and then we get that group in the scene. The least they could do is have a parlour game called, “Where’s Monica” and then maybe if someone finds her we’d get a scene or two.

Agreed that Dillon (a new recast) needs a to return. Josh Kelly would’ve been great, but instead we get Cody (a newly found Scorpio).

Monica’s screen absence has nothing to with Frank or the writers. Frank brought Leslie Charleson back from the exile created by JFP. If LC was comfortable appearing on camera, we would have seen her over the past year. It was a welcome surprise to hear her voice on the Epiphany tribute episode last week.

If LC is comfortable continuing to do voiceovers, the writers could come up with some creative way to work that in. Long time viewers remember the number of years David Lewis’ Edward was presumed dead and we only had his “ghostly voice” speaking to Lila.

Current Ned is not the ‘original’ either…just fyi. Although far better and more memorable

Rebecca1,
I rather think this poor woman is unwell, incapacitated, hence the phone call only, to Liz at the Epifany’s service. She may be bed- ridden and they just can’t bear to say a final goodbye with explanations, etc. I just read OG Steves’s post after writing this and totally agree, she could barely walk last time she was on screen. If she’s willing to contribute this way, I see nothing wrong with it.

Well said. I agree completely. I’d love to see Tyler and Stephen Nichols come back. Stefan and Nikolas had a great relationship and Stefan and Laura as well. I remember that he was the only Cassadine that helped her while she was held captive by Stavros on Cassadine island.

I think she is great and so many don’t make it to 90. That in itself is worth celebrating.

Her story is getting old. She does not need to come back.

A lot more oldies need to come back they r the ones who made this show what it is today been watching her sence the original cast was Elizabeth Tylor..

I wish her gorgeous late husband John Gavin was coming with her he was so hot!

If anybody can rein in Victor, it’s Hells. Love her to pieces.

What ever it is it will be Good it always fun when Helena returns yes!!!!

How about Helena having a twin sister that was taken away at birth by the mother for protection from the Cassadines

OMG,,isn’t one enough?

please do not bring helena back fulltime…I do not like this cradle robbing woman

June,
Me either! The way she used to fawn all over Luke made me sick. Isn’t her lousy, wicked brother enough?

Violet – I assume you mean Victor, her brother-in-law (not brother). Val was not result of incest.

She’s only back for 2 days, in either new fake-flashbacks, as a ghost or maybe even a hologram (like what Anna & Felicia used on Eileen).

Cassadines never really die. How many time a Cassadine has died and they have the potion to bring them back from the dead.

You might be confusing Cassadines with the DiMeras from Salem. They’re the ones who usually escape from Hell by the use of Dr Rolf’s zombie potion, while the Cassadines usually just freeze the body and thaw it out later.

On the other horn, now that the DiMeras have started using cryogenics, maybe the Cassadines will have to switch to potions after all?

It annoyed the Heaven out of me that they brought back Stavros about 10 years ago, just to kill him off again. RKK plays crazy oh so well. Nicholas Chavez does look like he could be related.

Stavros was a decent psycho villain during RKK’s first run in the early 2000s. His last return, not so much really. ReRon thawed him out, only to make him a complete cartoon.

And they never did explain where exactly Stavros went when he jumped into the “bottomless pit” through the trap door in Helena’s GH sub-basement laboratory…. yet ended up years later as a popsicle on Cassadine Island.

YAY! Constance Towers is incredible as Helena and I wish they’d never killed her off. But I get why some people got sick of her. Soaps have a bad habit of turning their villains into one-note, cartoon, supervillains. But CT & Robin Mattson could’ve made Helena & Heather so much more if the show gave them depth vs using them as nothing more than plot points. With them n other 1 note supervillains Jerry Jacks, Faison, Alex Devane etc half the time their motivations don’t even make sense. And without clear character motivations and motivating emotions, villains aren’t interesting.

I LOVED the Cassadines in the 90s bc of the complicated relationships Helena, Stefan, Alexis & Nik. And Robert Kelker-Kelly was amazing as Stavros but a huge missed opportunity because TPTB made him 1 note and ott too. I loved their feud w the Spencers but had Helena & Stavros were more grounded & had more depth, it would’ve been so much better. And with so many Cassadines on now and her history w Laura, I’d have loved to see Helena’s familial relationships, rivalries and background explored more from a character standpoint. Imagine if she had a major soft spot for great grandson Spencer & step granddaughter Molly. Maybe keeping them on the hook by agreeing to tell her life story for a book Molly’s writing telling the story of the Cassadine family history. They and fans would learn of her traumatic, violent, loveless upbringing and the emotions behind it that turned into who she became, the turning point being Luke & Laura killing Mikkos, the only person in the world to show her love. We’d also see just how deeply she was hurt by Mikkos’ affair w Alexis mother and how Alexis is a living reminder of the most painful, heartbreaking betrayal she ever experienced. And having Stefan & Nik constantly defend and embrace Alexis while rejecting Helena just twists the knife.

Laura, Lesley, Nik, and Alexis would hit the roof at her spending time with them and though Spencer & Molly initially despise her as much as everyone else and know shes dangerous and manipulative, a real genuine relationship forms when Helena sees much of her younger self in both of them, sees them as the hope for the future of the family and really begins to let her guard down. And they become the 1st ppl since Mikkos to understand why she is who she is and the pain motivating her, see her display genuine emotion & humanity. A frenemy,love/hate type of relationship between them & Helena would send shockwaves through the Cassadine & Spencer families. Especially if Helena conceded in certain instances to preserve her relationship w Spencer n Molly such as agreeing to no longer go after or harm Laura & Alexis. Nik, Laura, Alexis & Lesley would see it as a tactic for her to get her hooks into them deeper, going after her guns blazing, joined by Lucky & Lulu which puts Spencer & Molly in the middle and causing them to clash w their families.

That’d be way more interesting and exciting than having her pop up as a ghost to haunt/ threaten since a dead person is not that intimidating. Ghosts on soaps are usually so lame anyway. I’ll take Helena however I can get her but ghosts don’t ever add much and there’s nowhere for the story or character to go. I didn’t care for it w Alan or John Abbott on YR and if TPTB weren’t ready to let the character go, they shouldn’t have killed them to begin with. Soaps are so short-sighted for shows that are endless and ghostly appearances don’t do nearly as much to placate upset fans as TPTB think.

Interesting, but the true Helena wouldn’t see anything in Molly and would be apt to slash her throat just like she did to Natasha’s mother.

The character/actress link I would’ve liked was when Jennifer Bassey joined GH as Quinn (the publisher in the vapid Msn Flanders story). If they had brought her over as Marian Chandler and made her Helena’s sister, it would’ve been quite interesting as Bassey and Towers share a resemblance.

I hope this means Anthony Gary will make a special come back too!!!

Not crazy about her. Don’t care if she comes back.

Great ! She is fantastic !

Love it! Mow let’s get Luke!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

on

By

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

Photo: JPI

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
