Daniel Goddard’s Heartfelt Farewell On His Last Y&R Airdate: “I Love Each and Every One of You, You Will Never Truly Know How Much You Mean to Me.”
The time has come for us to share our goodbyes with Daniel Goddard, and give him props for a job well-done as he wraps his 13-year run as Cane Ashby on today’s episode of CBS’ The Young and the Restless.
Several weeks ago, in late October, Daniel informed his fans and those that follow him on social media that he was let-go from the top-rated CBS Daytime drama series finding it difficult to share the news. Goddard, still in shock shared then: “I still can’t believe it. I loved that show with every ounce of my being.” That takes us today, Tuesday November 26th which Daniel offered up was his last airshow as Cane.
In a lengthy post on his Instagram he made his final bow to his fans expressing: “My dearest friends, I just wanted to let you know that on today’s episode of young and the restless Cane’s journey finally comes to an end. I wanted to tell you for a while that today is my last air date but I really just didn’t know how. Thirteen years ago I stepped foot onto one of televisions’s most iconic shows and for this Aussie dreamer who set out in search of something greater than himself… I suddenly felt like I was home. We had some good times didn’t we? We laughed together, cried together and loved together, but through it… we were always there for each other, because that’s what families do. I love each and every one of you, you will never truly know how much you mean to me. So, as Kristoff would say… “Stay looking up!” Always, Daniel.”
Since the passing of Kristoff St. John (Ex-Neil Winters) and the decision and departure of his on-screen longtime love interest, Christel Khalil (Ex-Lily) it seemed the series had trouble finding the right spot for Cane to continue in story. As viewers saw, Cane has been in the middle of the contesting of Katherine’s will when a new one apparently serviced as drama played out between Cane and Devon and Cane, Chance and Cane’s father, Colin.
Share your thoughts on the sentiments shared by Daniel via the comment section below and wish him well.
One of the worst send offs ever but the show has stunk it up for years I watched the Jack story and then said no more I am not sure anything will save this show but Daniel brought some of this on himself have to stay off Twitter and complaining and you need to be open to changes CK decided to leave their was other possibilities for his character but their is definitely a lot of backstage nonsense going on but Tristan Rogers performance was sad and Jess Walton just cringe worthy horrible ! This show once was sooo great but since 2006 it had never got its footing back
What did he say on Twitter?
Hi Kay, What would you like to see on Y&R? What would make it must see tv?
Hey Lew I am not sure the suits care anymore and that’s sad it would take somebody truly caring about the show and making tough decisions that means listening to us not one couple Griffith is trying to force down our throat has chemistry sorry but your actors don’t run the show ! It’s pretty bad when Victor and Nikki are the only couple on the screen who have the chemistry and trust me they still have it and no screen time! Lauren and Michael where are they??? Case and Grossman have it but instead we are getting force fed Chelsea can’t stand it the character of Abbysorry the actress hasn’t had chemistry with anybody they have paired her with! Just speaking how I feel not trying to be cruel.
I know and I agree with you pretty much. I am not enjoying a lot of the current storylines either. After the EP and HW change, there was talk of bringing the stories back to the veterans. That hasn’t exactly happened. Did Theo really need to be Dina’s grandson? Was this nutty storyline with Chelsea and Calvin needed and I won’t even talk about the mess of Katherine’s will. Kay, Happy Thanksgiving!
Kay I am with you. I have been watching on and off since the mid-eighties and right now it is utterly ridiculous. If I hear Chelsea whine more time about her screwing up her son’s life i will scream. I was so hoping Theo was going to be shipped off to Paris with auntie Ashley, until Jack opened his mouth. He makes my skin crawl. Not to mention that watching him and Summer rolling around in bed is sickening. I’m with you. Bring the Fenmores out of hiding. Fenmore is coming back for the holidays, so maybe we will get a five minute break from Chelsea’s whining. Let Esther and Gloria bond with their granddaughter. All right I rambled enough! It is only a soap opera. Happy viewing and happy holidays
Take care everybody have a lot on our plate at this house so have decided take a break watched the show on Friday decorating the tree ! Ugh ! Give it a rest maybe things will come around ! Merry Christmas !! Just remember the reason for the season ! Peace to all !!
❤️
You are soooo speaking for me, soapqueenforever. I have never liked Chelsea—-when I read she was returning, my heart sank to my stomach. She is NOT a victim, yet here she is–front and center; the poor, poor sacrificial lamb who would do anything for her son. It seems everyone kowtows to her. Nick is a fool—WOW—not realistic!! Just put Chelsea and Adam back together again, and stop this love/hate dance between them. The artifice—- and so obviously transparent. The anticipation is gone.
Plus, this ex-criminal gone to mother-of-the-year with a dash of Mother Theresa is pitiful.
Firstly, she should have thought about her son’s wellbeing—physically, mentally and emotionally before putting his life and her integrity on the line—-oh, wait–she has no integrity. Doesn’t she have another son? Johnny? How does a mother forget about her own son? The writers make her look callous and hard!! Regardless of her pact with Billy concerning Johnny, I think TPTB should have come up with something more reasonable—-not having contact with Johnny and keeping the truth from Connor ( that he has a brother) is so pathetically and pathologically wrong!!
Theo? Oh, Lordy-Lord!! He is creepy!! This will be a repetition of “the revenge of the outsider—the brother that’s been wronged”—-just one thing—-Theo is not an Abbott. One may argue that neither is Ashley—however, John may not have been her bio father, but he was her father in all the ways and means that matter. He reared her—she was his “beathy”!!
Also, I would love to see Fenmore back on stage—a changed Fenmore; an adult Fenmore.
Great post!!!! Happy Holidays to you, as well.
The Daniel Goddard era is over……THANKFULLY!
Was never one of my favorite Y&R characters or actors. How he managed a 13-year run for a character who should have left town with Amber in 2009 is beyond me. I wish the actor lots of luck and success ….. in another role on another show that I don’t watch.
I think they should bring Cane over to B&B and pair him with Donna or Katie. Charlie & Mattie can intern at Forrester Creations or Spencer Publications, and if Cane can go toe-to-toe with Bill for Katie’s affection. That way it keeps Cane in the show’s orbit, and steer the story on B&B away from all this Hope and Thomas nonsense.
Hell to the no! I don’t want DG anywhere near the other shows that I watch!
Yesterday was his last episode? How? It didn’t tie things up at all. How about scenes between Cane and Devon? Is he staying in the Maldives? I’m so confused.
I agree with you Momo. The whole will business is confusing the heck out of me as well. I guess if Cane and daddy dearest are involved with forgery, they will be sharing a cell for awhile. I always loved seeing Jill and Colin together though. I am hoping with Chance around Jill will stick around more. She has always been my favorite. I am just so tired of Nicholas and Chelsea. If I hear her whining one more time about how she screwed up her son’s life I am going to scream. I was a fan of the Cane/Lily relationship in the beginning, but once they started cheating and lying to each other I kind of lost interest. It’s time for some fresh stories Thanks for listening and Happy Hoildays
Rumor mill has it that there were at least two more scenes written to explain more fully the character’s departure but that Goddard refused to do them, left in a snit. First he disses his storyline with Beth and then does this…..if it happened, no other show should take the chance on such diva behavior.
He was long past his expiration date IMO. Good riddance.
That’s a shame. He should know better.
I agree. He should have been grateful they were still giving him storylines. Once Lily and the kids were gone there was really nothing left for him,to stick around for. As the saying goed, you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone
My problem with him was he always seemed to be whispering, especially when trying to be earnest. I could never get invested in him & Lily as a couple though.
Go already
All the Lane fans can eat Crow
You wrote your own pink slip
That statement proving, once again, that there is no bigger fan of Goddard’s than Daniel himself. Good riddance.
I wonder if the Hilary’s look alike ( forgot her name) is a willing participant in Colin’s scheme. What’s her story?
Y&R is actually doing better than Days, in my opinion. I can’t say I’m sorry to see Cain go. Is he part of the conspiracy, as well? Interesting. I do hope we get to see another side of Hilary’s “twin”.
It looks like Billy is at it again. Over and over—-how tedious!! Spoiled brat. Is something brewing between him and Hilary’s “twin”?
I must pay more attention to characters’ names.
Maybe you shouldn’t have nixed a romance with Traci.
First of all it is a big mistake to take out the whole Ashby family! I loved Cane and Lily! You were just bringing in the twins, which this show needs some younger people on the show! You better think this situation over a little harder! There are others I would rather leave the show!

On the Friday, May 8 Mother’s Day episode of The Price is Right, a retired veteran won over $240,000 in cash and prizes making her takeaway the largest prize ever won in a single pricing game in the 54-year history of the daytime version of the CBS game show.
The contestant, “Vanesa from Virginia” bested the previous record of $210,000 in a single pricing game of Cliffhangers set over a decade ago in 2016. The moment occurred when Vanesa played “The Lion’s Share,” the new high,” the new high-stakes branded game that debuted this season through a partnership with BetMGM.
In the game, contestants have to guess the prices of grocery items to earn up to five balls. Each ball is then dropped into a wind tunnel, revealing a hidden prize amount. After each reveal, contestants face a tense decision to walk away with their current winnings or risk it all to continue.
