DAYS Alum Molly Burnett Exits ‘Law & Order: SVU’

Photo: IMDb

Former Days of our Lives alum, Molly Burnett is leaving her role as Detective Grace Muncy on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Burnett joined the crime drama back in July of 2022, and first appeared in episode two of the series 24th season.  She no longer will be a series regular.

On last night’s season finale two-hour SVU/Organized Crime crossover event, Muncy apparently accepted a new job off-screen.

This casting exit comes on the heels of another soap alum, Kelli Giddish (ex- Diana, All My Children) leaving the ‘Law & Order’ Franchise. Her final episode as a series regular was episode 9 of Season 24. However, Giddish reprised her role of Amanda Rollins in last night’s crossover season finale revealing she is pregnant.

On Friday, Wolf Entertainment tweeted out a very touching and extended version of Muncy’s goodbye with Velasco.  TV Line first confirmed Burnett’s series exit.

What do you think about Molly’s departure from Law & Order: SVU? Shocked and saddened? Comment below.

Gotta wonder why Molly is gone!!
If you get a job on a long running show, why on earth would you leave? The residuals alone would make you stay as long as possible!
Makes me wonder if she left of her own accord, or was she ‘let go’?

Not all that surprised she didn’t last more than one season. Don’t think she was a good fit for that show at all. Her attempt at a New York accent was ridiculous.

It’s not that she’s not capable of doing a “dramatic” show. She did a good job on “Queen of the South”. But I doubt we will see her turn up on any of Dick Wolf’s shows again. Which would be the entire Tuesday primetime lineup on CBS, and the Wednesday AND Thursday lineups on NBC.

Doubt she’s going back to Days after all these prime time gigs…. not to mention the character of Melanie was turned into a complete joke the minute they tied her to the Eggman, just so they could come up with a convoluted way of making her related to Maggie. Never mind that the retconned circumstances of her birth couldn’t have possibly happened, since her father would have been 8 years old when she was born, and her mother was married to Bo Brady at the time.

I agree, Satan. Good actress, wrong role. It happens to most performers. I do miss Kelli Giddish’s complex, resilient Amanda. Big mistake letting her go.

Souphound,
I agree with you and Satan. That character was not for her, but you know she might have made a good Molly. I think I read somewhere that Kelli is bringing Amanda back and pregnant in real life as well as the show.

Bring Amanda back. Molly did nothing for svu. Amanda wS like family

Was never crazy about her

Such a shame. While never a fan of the role of Melanie, I did enjoy Molly Burnett as Grace. Such she isn’t going further.

I hated to see her go. I think she was fully capable of growing into the role – she’s a good actress with range -but the show has been on the lookout for the right chemistry combo for a couple of seasons now, with a rotating cast of cops, and personality types. I thought she was a good enough fit when she first came on, but the introduction of two more cops in the season suggested tptb were still looking and moving pieces around, and she did fall to the side as a result.

And although I know the Chicago and L&O shows are set in the same universe, maybe wait a year or two and bring her back as a different character on Chicago Med – and without an accent. I bet she would make a good nurse or young doctor or therapist.

After seeing the new Molly on GH as a temp I look at Molly Burnet and with her hair darker, she’d be the perfect Molly.
