DAYS Kristian Alfonso Chats On Upcoming Scenes That Help Resolve Bo & Hope, Daniel Cosgrove & The Tearful Goodbye to Nick!

Kristian Alfonso (Hope) has been one of the leading ladies of NBC’s Days of our Lives for decades! Recently, Hope has been back in police mode, being a single mother, and clearly falling for a new man in her life, Aiden played by soap veteran Daniel Cosgrove. After years as being part of one of soap opera’s all-time super couples Bo and Hope … how does the character move on? How do the fans move on? This has been the plight the DAYS writing team have found themselves in, as well as Alfonso, since the departure of Peter Reckell as Bo Brady, who last aired at the end of October of 2012.
On-Air On-Soaps caught up with the Kristian at the recent Daytime Emmy Nominee Reception where she was on hand to support her peers and her cast mates from DAYS to get her thoughts on a few subjects: Her touching scenes where Hope says goodbye to a lifeless Nick, how she is creating new on-screen chemistry with Daniel Cosgrove, and if the soap will finally, once and for all, seal the fate of Bo and Hope… since for all intent and purposes there has been no change on the horizon of a return by Reckell. Here is what Kristian shared!

One of the best performances I have ever seen you give was in the episode that aired recently where Hope is crying over Nick’s (Blake Berris) dead body in the morgue! I think you deserved some additional kudos for that … it was heartbreaking! Do you remember shooting that scene and what was going through your mind at the time?
KRISTIAN: I do remember doing that. It was very hard to deal with that as it was shot at the very end of the day, and it was like the directors were yelling, “Go! Stand here … and do it!” I was crying so much, and trying to remember where I was coming from and trying to hold everything together. I think that was for Hope the resolve that: I have failed you. I am devastated, and am so guilty, and you deserved so much better then what I gave you. And the sad part for her is that Nick really wanted to make a change, and I think Hope carries that with her, absolutely. The tears and the loss was just tremendous for her.

So what has been like playing opposite Daniel Cosgrove (Aiden), as Hope’s new love interest?
KRISTIAN: Daniel is very sweet man. He is very funny, and he wants to work hard, and I love that about him. He is a family guy who adores his wife and his children. He has three girls that are all ballerinas and he has a little boy named Fin. So he is traipsing back and forth from the east coast all the time and commuting right now.
People are still screaming: “Bring back Bo! Why aren’t they doing everything to get him back on the show?”
KRISTIAN: … Because Peter Reckell (Ex-Bo) doesn’t want to come back. So it’s confusing for the fans, because then he tweets out something different.
They have got to do really do something about this on-screen already, because it still giving fans an expectation that Hope and Bo will be reunited!

KRISTIAN: They have done something about it. We’ve done it and we’ve shot it. Hopefully it will be great, and what I love in the casting of Daniel Cosgrove is that he is so opposite of Bo. We will see where it goes. I love the fans and their support has been absolutely incredible. I was reading some tweets recently and they were saying, “Hope and Aiden aren’t even together yet, and I want them together!” And that is fantastic! The writers have done an incredible job. It was frustrating for me at the beginning, but I really truly appreciate and totally understand why they paced everything out, because now Hope would have the opportunity to be a single mother going through all of that, and trying to juggle all of that, which also involves the whole thing that happened with Nick. She is trying to tend to everyone, but the only one she is not tending to is herself. I love where they started with Aiden and Hope being so combative, but I got to tell you, I love where they are going with the story, and I could not be happier.
So, what do you think about Kristian’s comments that DAYS is finally did something about the future of Bo and Hope more permanently that will open her up to further storyline possibilities? I watched the show for the first time in years. Cosgrove was my favorite on GL. I think him and Hope could be great. I loved Bo and Hope until Reckell opened his big mouth. he is gone .Why should the Actress K A lose her job because Peter left. Goodbye and good luck. This is the same as GH Scrubs. KM wants to leave she is ready to leave she has been there since she was a child, let her leave without horns, because that’s what the GH writer does. Demonizes the actor that wants to leave. I use to watch Days then they killed Jack, stupid move. These are soaps when the actor returns back from the dead Oh Well.I may just watch this I love KA and DC so all is fine with me.
It’s good to hear that you may start watching again, janet! As for Jack, he’s been mentioned a lot lately. Who knows!!!
BTW, CBS killed GL and ATWT in favor of “The Talk” and something else. Julie Chin is the wife of the CBS president who axed those soaps. She wanted her own talk show.
They really are cute together. I fast forward thru a lot of scenes but with them I stop. Enjoyed their kids being friends again too. I do think that daughter is going to be the next Sami when she grows up.
I always thought that Peter (aka Bo) will stay on forever.
They make an exciting storyline and couples to continue on Days of our Lives.
I really enjoy so much when I was younger to watch their show.
I never thought its would end like this way.
I will continue to watch the storyline of Hope and Daniel. Hopefully, its will be an exciting as the storyline between Bo and Hope. I am looking forward to it.
I want Bo presumed dead in a plane crash…leaving the possibility of a future Bo return(even if recast)…its about time this moves forward instead of leaving Hope in limboland…also, as much as i like the young actress playing Ciara i liked to see her character slightly aged…i want her to become a rebellious 12 year old who creates a lot of problems at school and at home for Hope…then Days needs to introduce daytimes most shocking contriversal storyline ever…12 year old Ciara starts gaining weight and occasionally getting sick and throwing up…Hope fears Ciara has developed an eating disorder and is depressed over her fathers alleged death…Hope takes Ciara to see Dr.Marlena Evans, who after a few sessions, suggests Hope take Ciara to Dr.Jonas for a physical…when Hope takes Ciara to see Dr. Jonas to confirm her suspicions that her daughter has an eating discover, Hope is shocked when Dr. Jonas informs Hope that her 12 year old daughter is actually PREGNANT!!!…Hopes first thought is Abe’s son Theo has to be responsible and she and Abe have a fallout because of the accusation until Ciara admits it was 13 year old boy named Adam she met at school who turns out to be Bevs troublesome younger brother!!! Soaps used to be known for its contriversal storylines that shocked viewers into watching…this could work but i know some would object…however, a preteen pregnancy storyline would be a first for daytime…why should these kind of stories just be limited to the Lifetime channel…if they can attract a huge audience maybe soaps could do the same with stories like this!!! just a thought!!!

Paige confuses me at the moment…shes been in Salem for some time now…long before Mummy Eve shows up…didnt see her interact with Theressa for the longest time or mention her step relatives are the Bradys which she shouldve known…so who was she staying with before the Eve reveal…if Theressa wouldnt she have known about her aunt and J.J.s connection long before now…i know i have a tendency of some forgetfulness because of some medical problems ive previously mention but Paiges first ‘days’ in Salem without a mention of her Brady Family and Theressa connection dont make sense to me!!!
Eve kept Paige in the dark about her Brady relatives and warned Theresa to stay away from her. Paige was staying with the unseen aunt Joan.
Of course, the Brady’s are not blood relatives to Eve or Paige.
I want Bo dead period, I loved Bo (PR’s) that is for years but the the last few I have really taken a strong dislike to the character and I stop seeing PR putting in 100 percent. I will add PR’s antics haven’t help. So this long fan of his is saying by. I am now full on Haiden fan.
one of the most riveting soap episodes i saw was before I watched Days, i stopped in to check it out and it was when Bo and Hopes child (Zack?) died. Peter Reckel was sobbing, crawling in the dirt/ground (by the grave?) and just sobbing and telling him he loved him…it was riveting!!! i thought that guy will get an Emmy…he never even was nominated as far as I recall now. But that is when i started watching Days

I kind of know how you feel about Marlena…she and Julie have been turned into stuck up nosey interfering busybodies…hard to believe these two were once Days leading ladies back in the 70s…a soap mag even asked ‘Can Two Soap Queens Survive On One Show’…they were far more interesting back then…now they have Julie popping in once a month and had her act as if Nick was her only relative…im a fan of Susans(Julie) and wish they had her be the more classy Julie she used to be and give her her own story…as for Marlena she used to be more fun and entertaining to watch…now they writers have stagnated her character somewhat…and her ex John Black and his return seems pointless…would like to see John and Marlena reunited and romantic again…one of my favorite Marlena stories happened in the early 80s…the Salem Strangler…who was stalking Marlena and killed off several characters…for the shows 50th id like to see Marlena recieve startling eerie phone calls, hints of a stalker and a couple of unsolved murders in town reminiscent of the Salem Strangler from over 30 years ago…Jake Kositchek was the original stalker and murderer and is dead…so who could this possibly be terrorizing Marlena 30 years later…this reunites John and Marlena after Marlena nearly dies and John realizes how he almost lost his beloved Doc forever!!!
I love Kristian and Hope is a beautiful and strong character. Bo and Hope had such an amazing history and chemistry. Kristian deserves more than six months of conversations about a church fundraiser. Hope needs a strong partner. Aiden is BORING!! There is absolutely no chemistry between Hope and Aiden. A proper ending for Bo and Hope needs to happen(Peter has tweeted that he would do this for the fans)! Then find someone and a storyline worthy of Kristian’s talents and Hope’s strong character.
You are right Amy, Peter did tweet that he would be willing to return to end things but it’s a bit too late. If he knew he was retiring then he should have ended things when Bo left and he should not have demanded that Mr Corday promise not to kill Bo off. Now he is claiming that Bo should have been killed off. Kristian is right it is confusing for fans. At a fan event Peter made it very clear that he wanted out to spend more time with his daughter and he has now moved away. Which is great for him, he should be able to do what he likes but Kristian is a working actress and she’s entitled to a story and a new partner. Peter has been very unfair to his fans. He has made it very clear that he was unhappy with the pay, the lack of story for his character and his wanting to spend time with his daughter. So I’m not sure he deserves to come back.
Peter Reckell has repeatedly stated is was “not about the money”. He sold his CA home and moved away. He wanted freedom to see his daughter and wife more often; away from the Hollywood life. He has also tweeted he would do a short-term return to give closure to “Bo”. Don’t know if the writers are up for a short term return so we will have to accept The Hope/Aiden story as it goes.
Well said, Janelle. Days should have killed Bo off in 2012 but they gave Peter what he wanted and that was time so they waited until last year and approached him and he said NO, now that Days has decided to move Hope on, PR is making rumblings about his willingness to tie up Bo s/l, well Days has moved on and so has many of us fans.
What’s the point of bringing Peter back for a short stint? Is it so Bo can die? Something Peter, himself, requested not happen or is it so Bo can serve Hope with divorce papers? Something that Bo would never do. He would not return to serve his wife with papers and then leave his daughter again after being gone for so long. Or is it so Bo can come back and Hope tells him she wants a divorce, and so Bo takes off again. Again, that’s not something Bo would do. He’d stay and fight for his family. So the only thing that could happen is for Bo to come back to die. I don’t see the point. I get that fans feel cheated because of the way he left and we all assumed he’d be back but Bo leaving should have been dealt with in the beginning. There is no point for him to come back.

As for Aiden being boring he is far from that he is an adult man unlike Bo, however it is time we learn more about this enigmatic man. Daniel & Kristian have wonderful chemistry and they really do seem to enjoy each other and it shows. Bo kill Bo off for good, I am sick of PR’s games with fans.

Thank you. I have watched ‘Days’ since the day Bo and Hope got back from their honeymoon in 1985. Hope doesn’t need to be paired with a replica of Bo, but for heaven’s sake, give her a strong partner and great storyline. Kristian deserves that and more.

Fans need to accept that actors make choices, and sometimes the choice is to leave. DAYS needs to move on, and the story needs to continue. Recasts, particularly of legacy characters, are tricky and rarely succeed. Usually the characters end up caring more about the recast than the audience does. DAYS made the right choice in not recasting Bo at this point. They also made an excellent choice by hiring an experienced veteran in Daniel Cosgrove as Aiden, and then weaving him into the story by having him interact with multiple characters in multiple storylines. Delaying the relationship with Hope was also the right choice. They made us like and care for the character before Hope did. Now we have hints of some mystery involving his former wife. I want to know more, and that is a tribute to good storytelling. Way to go, DAYS.
I was hoping Eve was Aidens former wife…which would be interesting with him as Jens lawyer fighting Eves lawsuit against her!!!
Interesting idea. I think they have no idea on that story yet. They just snuck it in there for long term story possibilities.
As usual, you always manage to put an interesting spin on any possible plot. I love it, jimh. Keep ’em coming. I try catching up….it’s summer break; busy with the little ones. Regardless, I’d like to know how you feel about Marlena or anyone else coming down so hard on Nicole….pretty sanctimonious, if you ask me….nose up in the air with a la-di-da attitude. Perhaps it has much to do with the fact that I am not a fan of Marlena or Eric. Is he really that “holy” ?
Tom, you got it man! Days is definitely taking it’s time with Hope and Aiden and that is a great thing, and making us like and care for him first, so true, and it’s a brilliant plan. Once we, all accept and like Aiden, Hope will soon follow. I like Daniel Cosgrove a lot, and hope he sticks around in Salem for a long time. I like how Days is taking time for Aiden and Hope to really get to know one another first, as single parents and now as friends. Smart move. Definitely good storytelling. Hope deserves stability and happiness. It’s great to see how Aiden now makes Hope radiant. We’ll need a new nickname, Fancy Face, belongs to Bo & Hope. As Aiden’s connection to Hope blossoms, we see Hope smiling, and she looks genuinely happy!
I like the pairing of Aiden and Hope together. They look good together, and there’s chemistry there. I’ve always been a BIG fan of Bo and Hope, but since he and the writers didn’t see eye to eye, they have to do something. Maybe they have Bo writing to Hope asking for a divorse, but only because he knows it’s not fair to keep her in limbo any longer. I don’t think they’ll kill off the character though. They may bring him back (the character, not Peter) just as Hope and Aiden are ready to walk down the aisle. That sounds like something Days would do.
I can see Hope and Aiden at the church ready to say their ‘I Do’s’ and here comes Bo roaring in on his motorcycle to sweep her away…during the shows 50th anniversary special in 2015!!!

I love Haiden, Bo should have been dealt with a year ago. Peter made his decision and then plays games on twitter which as a fan that ticks me off I don’t like games. With the new character of Aiden their is so much potential for Hope. I loved my Bope but they ran their course, I am not sure where they could have gone with them as a couple. I do hope Bo is dead because theirs was such a great love story his dying is the way to go for me. Haiden is so refreshing!
I agree. They didn’t know what to do with Bo and Hope, other than trying yet another triangle with Billie. That clearly didn’t work, and may be a part of the reason why Peter left. I’m sure the money issue came into play as well. The budget can’t handle a highly paid actor who isn’t central to the story.
I am glad to hear that it sounds as though they are going to close out the Bo and Hope story. I love Aiden and Hope, and the chemistry between Kristian and Daniel. This Bo thing has been dragged out too long, I am ready for Hope to be able to move on.

Well, there is that Clyde guy. LOL Perhaps Kayla can battle Kate for him. I do agree that MBE is being wasted as a powerhouse actress, and Kayla does deserve a new man for herself. But lets be fair here, Kayla getting herself a new love interest shouldn’t come at Hope’s expense. I would loathe and lose respect for Kayla if that ever happened, whether she intended for it or not. THANK GOODNESS the writers dropped the idea of Kayden after all and have continued full steam ahead with Haiden!!
Hope fans have been waiting for something like this for our girl just as long and patiently as Kayla/MBE fans have for theirs. It’s Hope’s turn, it’s KA’s turn and it is our turn as well! Let us enjoy it!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to stop watching the show if they do end up with Hope and Aiden but it won’t be them that I’ll be looking forward to on the show but will turn my attention more to the other characters.

Haiden all the way for me. Bo is the past and while I enjoyed PR’s Bo (he is the only Bo) I think he should have left in 2010 when Days took the character over the edge. I find Daniel Cosgrove a welcome change to Days he and Kristian have great chemistry. I agree with KA I like that Aiden & Bo are not a like.
Im hoping they kill off Bo. The fans would never accept another actor and Peter is done with it. So finish it respectfully and let her move on! A lot of fans are iinterested in the new pairing so we will have that to look forward to!
They actually recasted Bo once with Robert Kelker-Kelly, the actor who played Amanda’s husband, Sam on Another World. 🙂
Peter Reckell is playing games and DAYS is fed up with his social media shenanigans and are moving on from the character. When he tries to return no doubt that door will be closed to him or he’ll be offered a sweeps arc and let go again.
Sorry not an Aiden hope couple fan. I just don’t care for Aiden. Too judge mental , jumps to conclusions and not enough man for Hope

I am thrilled that the writers have gone permanent with Bo & Hope’s relationship(or lack thereof). I am tired of hanging on. The relationship that is growing with Hope and Aiden is nice to watch. I hope the writers don’t screw it up. I also wish everybody would get off Jen and Abigal’s backs.
Nick did not deserve any of Hope’s tears, but then she really still has no idea of all the evil he did.
Love Hope & Aiden, and I truly love Daniel Cosgrove (from GL). Dealing with Bo’s absence is long, long overdue. Reckell gave the show plenty of advance notice that he would be leaving. It truly is a shame they have waited 2 years to deal with it.
That said, I really pray that Hope becomes aware of the problem she is raising whose name is Ciara. LOL.
I enjoyed Bo and Hope, they were a cute couple with fire, chemistry, passion & a great deal of respect for one another. But if Peter doesn’t want to return, the fans NEED to realize that it’s out of the show’s (and his co-stars including KA, DHs, etc) hands. I’m glad too, that Days is finally addressing where Bo is or at least, what happened to him so Hope can move on with her life. I love her in cop mode, and the scenes thus far between Hope and Aiden have been utterly charming and full of potential. I’m fully on board the #Haiden ship & looking forward to more of this pairing!!!
Not a huge Kristian fan, nor a fan of Hope, but this Bo storyline has dragged one for long enough. If Peter is not interested in return, they should either break the couple up or recast the character and return him in 2015. The casting of Daniel was amazing, but I only wish he could’ve had a more interesting storyline aside from being an automatic love interest of Hope.
We will soon learn more about Aiden…and it should be interesting!!!
Is there some reason that they didn’t/haven’t recast Bo? Why have they let it drag out this long, some kind of contractual agreement with Peter reckell?
Peter has moved on and is not coming back to the show. Yes, they could recast the role with a different actor and keep the character but the show has decided to go in a different direction and give Hope a new storyline with a new man. I am certainly supportive of that change and looking forward to seeing Kristian and Daniel take this challenge and make this story for Hope and Aiden “come alive.”
For me, I didn’t watch Days in the beginning and only caught on in the early 2000s and my sticking around with it had a lot to do with Bo and Hope. I absolutely love them as characters and Peter and Kristian; they are magical together.
I do understand Reckell’s decision, I really do. I still think there’s a place for Bo in this story cause I think Ciara needs her dad and I truly think he would’ve really enjoyed seeing EJ in handcuffs…
Anyway, but in regards to this story, I really think there needs to be some kind of avenue to potentially bring back Bo, whether it is in the form of a recast or if Reckell changes his mind. There’s a lot of places where you can see Bo’s presence being really missed.
I am a fan of Daniel Cosgrove so for Hope’s sake, I am interested to see how they develop the relationship of Aiden and Hope, but at some point, you can’t have Bo chasing after Stefano forever. If that’s the case, then reintroduce the Brady/DiMera feud.

I thought Kristian’s performance with the Hope and Nick scene was brilliant. It was so moving and I thought she did a phenomenal job. I am a massive Bo and Hope fan, have been so since 1983, I thought I would hate any new pairing for either of them, was never a Bo and Billie fan or a Bo and Carly fan or a Hope and Patrick fan, but I can say that I’m coming around to the Hope and Aiden pairing. I like Daniel Cosgrove and I do see chemistry between him and Kristian. I am disappointed that Peter is trying to pretend that the fans deserve more and it’s the show or writer’s fault. He was the one who chose to leave and he was also the one that asked Bo not be recast or killed off. What were the writers supposed to do with that? As a fan, I don’t need Bo to be dead although I don’t think Hope would move on without some sort of clear ending and it sounds like that’s what will happen. It’s actually not out of character for Bo to leave Hope and Ciara thinking he’s saving the world or exacting revenge. He’s done that before. As a long time fan, I welcome the change and can’t wait to watch this story unfold.

I love Hope & Aiden, so glad to read they have a future, they are the main reason I watch Days. Kristian has always been my favourite heroine. I have also supported Bo & Hope since the beginning they were Days for me but things change. Peter chooses to leave and be with his family which I have no problem with and I think it was time. Bo did cheat, whenever he felt he lost Hope, even though it was due to his arrogant ways, but I digress. I don’t want Bo back and I will add I don’t like Peter playing his fans back & forth Days gave an offer he turned it down, so move on. If by chance Bo were to return way, way, way down the road he would get a taste of his own medicine with Hope & Aiden being together now that I would not mind seeing, as long as Hope chooses Aiden. 😉 I am ready for full blown #HAIDEN Days has handled their relationship well and finally a closure of Bo & Hope is coming, I agree with others I want him dead. Because theirs was a greatest love-stories death seems the right way to go, so I am hoping for that route. As for Bo being in love with his old slapper that makes laugh, even she knew she was no competition. I can’t see Days going there because it was such a disaster.
I have been a huge Bo and Hope fan since their trip to New Orleans in the 1980s. Although I hated to see Bo and Hope leave the show back in their prime, it was great to see them return. Kristian is so underrated as a great actress on DOOL. I will never forget the death scenes when Zack died and she confronted Chelsea. I still think she was robbed that year at the Emmys. I love Aiden and Hope together. I think Aiden is fun and I have enjoyed the slow bold. Peter Reckell has been gone for a 1 1/2 years and it is time for Hope to regain the crown as the star of the show. I would love to see Chelsea come back and cause trouble for Aiden and Hope. I do not want Eve to be related to Aiden because that tells me she is going to be a part of too many story lines (But I love Kassie D). It would also be great to see Shawn Douglas and Belle return.

Bo has had Carly and Billie when Hope was off canvas. It’s a crappy double standard that Hope hasn’t experienced love with anyone but Bo. Yes, she’s had affairs with John and Patrick but it wasn’t the “true love” level that Bo had with Carly and Billie. It’s time for Hope to move on. She’s far too vital and essential to the canvas not to have her own storyline and I think this one with Aiden is exactly what Hope needs. Kristian Alfonso and Danny Cosgrove work amazingly well together. These are older characters but as a viewer, I cannot wait for Hope and Aiden’s first kiss. So, DAYS, move this along now and cut down on the crap stories like Theresa Donovan, one of the most underdeveloped and one-note characters ever to hit Salem. Give her airtime to Hope and Aiden instead.

To each their own. I find the actress and the character incredibly irritating. She’s the poor man’s Megan Mulally. The character adds nothing to the show especially now that Eve is back in Salem. Theresa has never been anything more than Eve’s poor carbon copy. Theresa is now superfluous because Eve is a better character and played by a seasoned actress. So in my view, Theresa is unnecessary and just dead weight on DAYS.
I fully agree with you, Patrick. Jen Lilley has the IT factor. She fills and captures the screen with each scene. I also appreciate her character and presence for the same reasons…everyone else falls short. I am really trying to contain myself watching Brady, but my patience is waning. He is made to appear as the tough guy, but I only see FOOL written all over him. He acts like a spoiled brat . He is an adult and should start taking responsibility for his own actions.
However, I can appreciate that the writers are trying to bring a slice of the real world into this storyline. But, the main ingredient, that is, the agonizing pain and despair experienced by an addict is not portrayed. What I see is the belligerence of a cry-baby.
Theresa, on the other hand is calm, cool and collected. Her expressive eyes speak volumes. There is much to foresee and learn within those depth. I see desolation and rancor…I am waiting for a meaty Theresa storyline to develop and evolve; one that will leave everyone else in her dust.

Glad that Hope is finally moving forward with her life. I’m enjoying Hope with Aiden. PR wanted to leave and I wish him well. DOOL is currently the best daytime soap IMO.
I think Bo & Hope were written into a corner….there was very little to do with the characters that hadn’t been done already. Hope & Aiden are refreshing in many ways. I like that he challenges her and that they can still have light moments. Daniel Cosgrove is a good actor and I liked him in his previous roles and enjoy seeing him on Days.
I have seen PR’s comments and feel his ego is bruised that the show finally gave up waiting for him. He was using the fans as an excuse to be able to come back and “let there be closure”. Truth is that he made his choices and the show does not revolve around him. KA/Hope was kept in limbo for almost 2 years while they played the waiting game for him. Time to let both the actress and the character get more story instead of popping in & out to play detective or mom for a scene here and there.
They did a fine job of slowly integrating Aiden onto the canvas and having him interact with other characters while still focusing on a budding relationship with Hope. We know that as soon as they start to really become a couple some skeleton will come out of his closet.
As for Ciara, there are ties I want to throttle her. But, that means that they are doing a good job building her character’s personality. She is like a throw back to AMC’s Erica Kane. It will be interesting to watch her grow up…and I hope they don’t SORAS her because sometimes real time aging works best for story and the character.
One question however is……are they ever going to address the fact that technically Hope and John are still married? They really made a mess out of that by creating that whole stupid plotline and then just forgetting about it.

I’ve never cared for Peter Reckell or Bo Brady, so I am thrilled to have Daniel Cosgrove as Aiden on-air with Kristian. I think it was smart for the writers to move slowly with this storyline. I’m looking forward to the gala. I like Aidan and Hope together. I watched the scene with Hope making peace with Nick’s death two or three times. I thought Kristian did a fabulous job. That scene should be submitted as an Emmy reel next year.
The June 22 episode of Days of Our Lives reminded us all of why Deidre Hall is iconic in the role of Dr. Marlena Evans. Here we are 50 years later, and Marlena is still the heroine of the long-running soap opera, and Deidre remains one of the most most recognizable names in the history of soaps.
To pay tribute, and to look back at the life and times of Marlena, the story starts with Marlena flipping through a photo album of her with John (the late Drake Hogestyn) over the years. As she misses him dearly, she gets a knock on the door and its none other than John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).
With Andrew (Colton Little) in Salem working on a case, he sits down with Marlena, who says she can’t believe its been fifty years since she first arrived in Salem! Cue: Deidre’s first scenes on DAYS when she finds Mickey Horton (the late John Clarke) playing chess against himself inside the mental institution she worked.

THE FLASHBACKS OF MARLENA’S LIFE
From there, viewers definitely got the cliff notes version of the history of Marlena and entrenched within them, some of the biggest moments in Deidre’s enduring run.
Paul thinks he is looking at 70s, and early 80s Marlena while going through her scrapbook, but he is actually looking at her twin, Samantha (Andrea Hall). Cue: when Marlena confronted Samantha about impersonating her, and then later getting a call on her radio show from the Salem Strangler (Jack Coleman as Jake Kostichek) who killed Samantha thinking it was Marlena.
In the present, Belle (Martha Madison) has arrived at this time to meet up with Paul, unaware of this trip down memory lane. She wants to go over the findings in the chess board mystery Stefano willed to Marlena and John, in private with him, since Marlena previously said she wanted nothing to do with it.
Back to the history lesson, Marlena speaks highly of Don Craig and even though their marriage didn’t work out, she could find a path forward with the new love her life, Roman Brady. (Wayne Northrop however is never shown, possibly to keep the story focused on John as Roman for confusion sakes?)
Paul sees a photo of a young Carrie (Christie Clark) in the album and Marlena says she was such a godsend after losing her baby. In fact, Marlena says caring for Carrie prepared her for her having and raising her own twins, Eric and Sami. Cue: The twin visiting Marlena in the hospital.
JOHN AND MARLENA’S LOVE CONQUERED ALL
Then, in a way to get through and incorporate the wild storylines only Marlena could have been in, she tells Belle and Paul, she has been through so much in her life, how lucky she was to find John, and some of the most unbelievable experiences no one could imagine. Cue: Marlena possessed by the devil and levitating from the bed. Next, John confronting Marlena being the Salem Stalker, where she admits she killed Alice Horton, pretends she needs help, then pulls a gun on her beloved John!
The comment is made by Paul and Marlena, that she literally has been to hell and back and she could not have survived were it not for her beloved John. Cue the big emotional highpoint clips; The Pier Scene! Marlena steps out of the fog when John sees her from a distance. After believing she was dead for four years, here she was before him in one of the greatest reunions in a soap opera love story in history. What followed were other times of the life of times of Jarlena.

MARLENA’S ‘GIFT’ FROM STEFANO HAS A NEW CLUE
When Marlena makes a brief exit to the other room, Belle fills in Paul on the chess set Stefano left her mother and the photo of the Lire. Paul said he will investigate. Marlena comes back into the room and overhears, and says to promise her if things get dangerous he will back off, she does not want anyone hurt by Stefano’s games.
As the episode comes to a conclusion, it’s just Belle and Marlena going through the photo album giggling about 70s hairstyles and all the memories. Belle speaks on the impact Marlena has had in everyone’s lives, and that she is both the heart of their family and the heart of Salem.
An end card comes up acknowledging Deidre Hall’s 50th anniversary as Marlena, and we fade to black.

If you have ever tuned-in to the soap opera genre over the last 50 years, and witnessed some of the greatest romances, drama, classic and outlandish storylines of all-time, you would have seen Deidre Hall smack dab in the middle of it as longtime Salem heroine, Dr. Marlena Evans.
It was 50 years on this date, June 21, 1976 that Hall first appeared on DAYS on NBC which was its home for 57 years before it moved to its current streaming platform on Peacock in September of 2022.
In Hall’s first episode she was introduced as a psychiatrist treating Mickey Horton (John Clarke) at Bayview Sanitarium after he suffered a complete mental breakdown. Mickey learned that his brother Bill Horton (Edward Mallory) was the biological son of Mike Horton (Wesley Eure) with his wife Laura (Susan Flannery) and that he had been lied to for years and years. From that moment on, the rest is television and soap opera history. Days of Our Lives put Hall front and center.

There were so many heartbreaking and shocking story twists involving the beloved Marlena. One of the first was the historic crib death of baby DJ (Don Jr.) in 1980, Marlena’s infant son with Don Craig (Jed Allan). The story had never been told on daytime television and Hall’s performances received accolades from TV critics to fans when Deidre received thousands of letters from grieving mothers who had gone through the same thing in their own lives.
DAYS also brought Deidre’s twin sister, Andrea Hall Lovell to the show as her on-screen sister Samantha, who had a grudge and even locked Marlena up in a sanitarium and took her place! Fast-forward and in 1982, DAYS launched the Salem Strangler story where everyone believed Marlena was his next victim, only it turned out to be Samatha. Jake Kositchek (played by Jack Coleman) was revealed to be the actual serial killer.
Later, Deidre would assume the role of Marlena’s look-alike, Hattie Adams in 2004, once played by her sister, Andrea. Over the years, Hattie has come back to Salem and caused trouble giving Hall a chance to play a different type of character, then the always upstanding Marlena.

THE LOVES OF MARLENA
Deidre Hall struck gold with all her leading men: from the late Jed Allan, to Wayne Northrop as Roman Brady, and of course, her enduring love story with the late John Black played by the iconic Drake Hogestyn. In fact, Marlena’s 1986 wedding to John (who was believed to be Roman at the time) remains a favorite of fans to this day.

The Possession (1994- 1995)
Considered one of the most ambiguous, outlandish and unforgettable story arcs in soap opera history, then Days of Our Lives head writer, James Reilly went there! Marlena was possessed by the devil! That included; the demonic eyes, hissing at father John (Black) the priest, morphing into creatures, and the classic levitating in her bed! It became a cultural phenomenon and cemented Deidre Hall’s status as a daytime television legend. Just ask Ryan Gosling!

The Affair with John Black (1993)
John and Marlena’s forbidden love could not be denied and they had passionate affair, while she was still married to the real Roman. Problem was her daughter, Sami (Alison Sweeney) caught her mother having sex with John on a desk that changed Sami forever.
The Salem Stalker Mystery (2003-2004)
In a shocker, Marlena was revealed to be a serial killer who bumped off several Salem favorites residents who were all alive on the island of Melaswen (spelled “New Salem” backward). Turns out, she was manipulated and gaslighted by Andre DiMera (Thaao Penghlis) to do the “killings” and had no memory of her actions.
The Pier Scene (1991)
This remains Michael Fairman TV’s all-time favorite Deidre Hall moment, which featured some of the best acting in the storied careers of both Hall and Drake Hogestyn.
In the story, a presumed-dead Marlena returns after four years. One foggy night on the pier, John is alone, and Marlena steps out of the fog to reveal herself, and is reunited with the love of her life. You can watch it any year, any decade, and in any moment, and it will have you reaching for the hankies again and again. (best music score fo a soap scene of all-time too!)

Kristen’s Secret Room Reveal (1997)
Marlena was caught in Kristen Blake’s (Eileen Davidson) elaborate web of lies, when she was held hostage in a secret wine cellar/room until John managed to track her down, leading to an iconic on-screen reunion. The classic catfight between Hall and Eileen Davidson was one for the ages.
It should be noted that Maison Blanche, Queen of the Night, Possession, Aremid and Lady in a Cage were all a part of classic DAYS storyline and all featured Hall at the epicenter of it from 1993-1996.
THE RECENT YEARS OF MARLENA
In recent years, DAYS brought back the possession 2.0 storyline under then head writer Ron Carlivati in 2021 where the devil leapt back in Marlena after taking advantage of a frail Doug Williams (the late Bill Hayes)
In 2025, viewers watched the end of the love story of John and Marlena, as John succumbed to injuries sustained in an explosion saving a vial of medication needed to bring Bo (Peter Reckell) back to life. Marlena has been a widow on-screen since June of 2025 as Hall as portrayed the good doctor struggling with her grief and to move on with her life since his death.

One story that never goes away is Stefano DiMera’s (the late Joe Mascolo) obsession with Marlena, his “Queen of the Night.” Even in death, Stefano is toying with her from the great beyond with the mysterious chess set and the missing “pawn,” that he had gifted John and Marlena in his will. The mystery is currently unfolding on all-new episodes of Days of Our Lives.

In a heartfelt message posted to his Instagram story on Saturday, Calderon took a moment to share how grateful he was for the opportunity to play Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives, and nurse Nico Silva this year on NBC’s second season of Brilliant Minds. Currently, Brilliant Minds has two more episodes that will air on June 24 and the series finale on July 1.
Calderon expressed, “As I sit here reflecting on this lovely Saturday afternoon over the last two years of my life, I have two major chapters closing that have been part of my life every day for the last two years. We have Brilliant Minds. Our last episodes are wrapping up, and then my last scenes aired yesterday as me as Javi on Days of Our Lives.

“I’m just unbelievably grateful for the chance and the opportunity to be a part of something so much larger than me,” continued Al. “I (will) love Days of Our Lives forever, my family. Thank you for supporting me and supporting my decision to take the leap of faith and believe in myself and, and tell other stories. You know, it’s never goodbye. It’s always ‘see you later’ to me and just leaving with love and leading with love.”
Al concluded with a special mention to some very important people, the fans: “Thank you to the fans and the support from everyone, the lovely messages. So this next chapter, hopefully it’s not a dragon, hopefully it’s a gold coin.”

Calderon’s journey on-screen on Days of Our Lives began in October of 2024 and concluded this month. In one of his last appearances Javi was asking a favor from Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) before bumping into his ex, Leo (Greg Rikaart). In story, Javi has a new romance with Gus (Michael Ocampo), while fighting his feelings for Leo. The role of Javi will be played starting on June 30 by Jacob Martinez who takes over the role.
NBC decided to cancel the Brilliant Minds, after it split up the airing of its second season which began in the fall of September of 2025 and the back-half started airing after a long break this past May. Calderon joined the medical drama staring Zachary Quinto for the new season, which sadly was its last.
