Days of our Lives Knocks Out One Life to Live to Win Soap Opera Showdown Tournament!

There are no fans like DAYS fans who mobilized along with other soap viewers to have the long running NBC soap opera named The Best Soap Opera Of All-Time in Parade.com’s week long, Soap Opera Showdown!

In the final, it was the beloved Days of our Lives taking on the beloved and canceled One Life to Live, and after the votes were tallied, DAYS scored with 62.37% of the vote, while One Life to Live had 37.63% of the vote! In the end, it is the drama in the town of Salem that came out victorious over the drama in Llanview!

So what do you think of the results?  Is DAYS the best soap of all-time over OLTL?  Are you happy with the results?  Did you participate in the week long tournament voting?   Let us know!

Yes, I participated and am an avid Days watcher, but voted for OLTL. I’m happy Days won if OLTL couldn’t win. These days, DAYS is HOT HOT HOT!!!!

Don’t get me wrong, there’s something special about every soap opera. There’s something extraordinary about the whole genre. But Days of Our Lives is not the best soap opera of all time. The official Days of Our Lives facebook page sent out a call for all the fans to vote. DOOL was the only soap in the whole poll to do that and that is how they won every round of the poll. Without question, had Y&R, GH, or B&B done that, DOOL wouldn’t have won a single round. And if the official One Life to Live page had done… Read more »

I agree, if DOOL fans hadn’t flooded the vote, OLTL would have won. It deserved to win best soap. It was consistently great story telling.

. Until NBC posted on FB for their fans to vote, it was neck to neck. ABC and Prospect Park didn’t care

Pointless Poll. Wow an active soap beats a canceled soap.

I agree it was pointless. Any “brackett” poll is unfair and unreliable.

If they really want to get a true (or at least somewhat more accurate) poll, it needs to be a straight-out “vote for your favorite,” include every soap, and then be well publicized for all soap viewers to have the chance to vote.

Thank You… I so agree with you. it’s often times hard to explain why…. DAYS is better than the other 4…. given how the “other” three are so heralded….. blah, blah, blah…. CBS – get over yourself…. after today…. sink…. never was #1 in my book GH…. yikes… dote on about FV and RC… and the yawn 50th DAYS – Sony – NBC : has made DOOL… must see…. everything about their product…. production is superlative… for the last 2 years… steamy and ALL !!!! giddy DAYS! lovin it they take such care… in hiring good actors…. The parade poll sounds rigged but who cares it’s a supplement to a newspaper and a bad one at that…

Maybe that is because people could vote countless times. I ignored the poll once I realized this.

I’m really happy that DOOL got this recognition. While OLTL was my favorite of the two, DOOL comes in such a close second that it doesn’t matter to me. And I think both soaps are similar, in that both shows have, at times, been treated like the ugly stepchild, while both shows have also shown good quality over extended periods that are recognized by the fans but not always by the press or TPTB. IMO, DOOL has stayed truer to the core soap values that drew me in to soaps to begin with, qualities that GH and Y&R only sporadically… Read more »

I love One Life to Live. Fans voted for OLTL to show that it is still beloved and we want it back. We voted to show we still care. But ABLSleaze and Propect Park did nothing to help the voting while NBC did. I only watched OLTL AMC and GH . I used to watch some very old soaps no longer on the air, but don’t want to start watching any I have not seen before. I beg PP or ABC or some other entity to bring back our AMC ad OLTL. At the very least one of those channels… Read more »

OLTL is the best soap. I enjoy some of the others, but they will never be as good as One Life to Live. No contest.

ABC really goofed. They need to bring it back.

#OLTL will always be my favorite soap. I’ve watched since the beginning. When you invest that much time into a soap (I’ve watched All My Children since day 1 too), it’s devastating to lose. #OLTL was the red headed stepchild in the ABC lineup for years and to have it place second in this poll and to be ranked higher than any other ABC soap is testament to how wonderful the show is. It taught me tolerance as a young girl from a rich lilly white town that didn’t know the difficulties and experiences of others except through those I… Read more »

DAYS Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes Pay Tribute to Robert Clary

Days of our Lives beloved Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award recipients, Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Doug and Julie Williams), paid tribute to their longtime co-star and dear friend, Robert Clary (Ex-Robert LeClair, DAYS).

On Wednesday, Clary passed away at the age of 96.  On Days of our Lives, Bill Hayes and Robert Clary performed many times together as Doug and Robert when the soap opera had “Doug’s Place” as a nightclub venue for the characters to meet up and have story, while also taking in some music.

Bill and Susan shared their thoughts on Clary’s passing on their Instagram on Thursday; accompanied by some clips of performances by the characters of Doug and Robert.

The Hayes’ expressed: “Our Dear Robert Clary… Like a diamond, Robert was tough enough to survive this world and emerge brilliantly. He was so full of life… so saucy, so sassy, so superb at everything he tried. The energy and optimism that filled his 96 years was amazing to behold.  When he performed with pathos or joy, he always touched our hearts. He was an adoring husband, a firm friend, a trustworthy team player and, in crisis, deeply caring. In childhood, he had experienced humanity’s darkest days- then, as a man, filled the world with light.  His story in two words to remember: choose life. #RobertClary”

Share your remembrances of Bill and Robert performing on DAYS, and what you thought of the Hayes’ touching tribute via the comment section below.

Breaking News

Robert Clary, DAYS, Y&R and ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ Favorite, Passes Away at 96

Very sad news to report.  Robert Clary, who became a soap opera fan favorite for his roles as Robert LeClair on Days of our Lives, and Pierre Roulland on The Young and the Restless has died at the age of 96.

Clary, best known to primetime fans for his role as  Cpl. Louis LeBeau, on the comedy series, Hogan Heroes, passed away on Wednesday according to his granddaughter, Kim Wright, who informed the Hollywood Reporter.  Robert was the last surviving member of the iconic cast.

Throughout his daytime career, Clary always sang in his roles and is most remembered as Doug Williams (Bill Hayes) best friend, Robert LeClair.  The two would always perform at “Doug’s Place” in story.  Clary played the role from 1972–1973, 1975–1983, and again from 1986–1987.

During a break from DAYS, Robert went over to Y&R and created the role of Pierre Roulland when the CBS daytime drama first premiered from 1973-1974, and once again sang and acted on the show.  Later in his career, Clary appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful in the role of Pierre Jourdan from 1990-1992.

On Clary’s passing, Y&R shared: “The #YR Family sends our condolences to the family and loved ones of Robert Clary known to the Y&R audiences as “Pierre” on our debut episode!”

B&B also honored Robert by posting: The Bell Family & @BandB_CBS re sad to learn of the passing of #RobertClary, who portrayed Pierre Jourdan on @BandB_CBS from 1990-1992. Robert was a talented actor, a kind and courageous man, and a friend to all who knew him.”

Four decades into his career, Robert, who was Jewish, came forward with the fact that was incarcerated for 31 months in an Auschwitz concentrate camp, and tattooed with the identification “A-5714” on his left forearm. He was the only one of his captured family to make it out alive.

Clary was married for 32 years to the late Natalie Cantor, the second daughter of Eddie Cantor. She passed away in 1997.

Share your remembrances of the exceptional Robert Clary via the comment section below. But first, watch Robert talking about working with Bill Hayes on Days of our Lives, and his appearance in Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes Lifetime Achievement Award package at the Daytime Emmys (produced by Michael Fairman).
