For those you who aren’t ready to get to the bottom of the disappearance of John Black (Drake Hogestyn), either are we, because we know that eventually this will lead to the death of the character, and Marlena (Deidre Hall) becoming a widow. All this, after DAYS beloved Drake Hogestyn gave series executive producer, Ken Corday, the OK to kill off his character when he knew he would not be returning to the role that made him soap-famous.

As DAYS viewers know, Hogestyn lost his battle with pancreatic cancer back on September 28, 2024, and his death has rocked the show and it scast to the core. There were initial hopes that Drake would be able to come back to the role he loved so much to play, but it just wasn’t the hand he was dealt, sadly and unfortunately.

Now, in the latest promo for the action on Days of our Lives for episodes streaming on Peacock the week of March 24-28, the search for John continues and Steve (Stephen Nichols) gets some intel form none other than Andrew Donovan (Colton Little), who is also hiding something from his man and John’s son, Paul Narita (Christopher Sean).

Andrew tells John, “I’ve been lying to Paul. I know more about John’s mission than I’ve led on.” The upshot of which leaves Steve reeling. What does Andrew tell John’s best friend? Meanwhile, Marlena is with Paul. What will happen when she learns her husband’s whereabout?

Elsewhere in Salem, Javi (Al Calderon) and Leo (Greg Rikaart) look to be getting closer, but will Leo betray Javi and break his heart? Alex (Rob Scott Wilson) goes after Phillip (John-Paul Lavoisier) over Stephanie (Abigail Klein), and Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) is about to learn that it was Doug Williams III (Peyton Meyer), that stole Alice Horton’s necklace after Tate (Leo Howard) rats him out, much to the chagrin of Holly (Ashley Puzemis).

I absolutely love Paul and Andrew/Javi and Leo. I hope the new writers (approx. one month to go!) keep writing lots of drama for the gay characters. My hope is to have the fantastic Peter Porte back as Dimitri.

I am also enjoying BTG but the way the gay characters are written leaves much to be desired…

Javi and Leo are sickening. Their kissing is sickening and our family leaves the room when that disgusting stuff is going on. Has no place in daytime soaps..after midnight only

I fast forward them especially that. Yuk… too much!!!!

So it’s ok for straight couples to have sex scenes before midnight? Days is on peacock now, don’t watch or get rid of peacock!! It’s 2025, get a grip!!!!!

Dude get real. This is gay men. Or gay women doing this. ITS NOT RIGHT. PERIOD!!!!!!

Who says it isn’t right? Is it your place to judge? Are you going by a 1946 translation error in the Bible?

Regardless of the year, the Bible says we are not to judge even if it’s not right it’s not our place to judge anyone. Only God can judge period. I’m old school but as long as it’s not hurting me, I don’t judge people, only God can.

Excuse me but DOOL used to speak often about praying and God although soaps are racy at times. I love Leo and Javi but to much romance exposed. And that was old Testament. New Testament talks about sin and relates to old Testament.

Just what exactly is your point?

You’re not right. I bet you’re a Trumper who”d like to see gay people put in the gas chamber.

I hate the homophobia in these responses but I would be remiss not to respond to the TDS here. My partner and I are both gay men who voted for President Trump.
We believe in free speech and a diversity of opinion.

And most of my friends are gay. I dont hate anyone. This guy is a roller or filled with hate. LOVE DAYS OF OUR LIVES!

Then you and your partner are gluttons for punishment. You’re both suckers to Trump.

You call yourself “Discorules” and say you voted for Trump?

Are you one of the Village People? And if so, do you get any royalties from him playing YMCA at his rallies?

“leaves the room/has no place in daytime/after midnight only”???

Just FF those scenes/it’s not daytime, it streams/it’s for anytime someone wants to stream it.

I’m not a fan of Leo, but I’m also not a homophobe. You’re homophobic.

Homophobic af.

Maybe you can find some old episodes of Andy Griffith or The 700 Club to watch instead. Wake up – it’s 2025.

Homophobe much? I don’t like watching so called straight couples kissing all over each other. I mean that’s to much.

So does ur family leave the room when it’s tate and Holly kissing or how bout belle and ej
I really think days gives a rang of diversity on different cultures and sexuality. DOOL IS THE BEST

I just fast forward the gay scenes. I have a right to say it makes me feel uncomfortable. Just doesn’t look right!
The gay sex scenes are way too graphic.

Michelle, you don’t know what graphic is, you little pearl clutcher!

There isn’t even any nudity, so how can it be “graphic?” Maybe it should be XXX rated to give you something to whine about.

Personally, I love the reverse bulldog position…top and bottom!!

Why do we need to see that?

Not ready to sat good bye to John, loved the actor Drake was a good guy. I miss him. RIP DRAKE.

The gay boys need to go! To much sickening scenes watched for years but this is no place for this

No place for this?! It’s 2025. Get over it, Donna. Take your homophobia somewhere else.

“No place” might be a good description of your closed mindedness. Might want to stop watching and brush up on vocabulary. “Too” not “to” for starters.

Good God, my recording system has a stop, go, Fast Forward, etc and my TV and Remote have an off and on switch. If someone has you tied up forcing you to watch the show, than call 9-11 as soon as possible, otherwise shut the hell up!

I am Heterosexual and I have no problems watching Leo and Javi or any other gay couple. This is something that happens in the real world. And although day time soaps are designed for Adults not children why hide it from them when it’s happening out side in the communities. I am not one who believes that if someone see this it would turn them gay because that is something one is born into. And I’m not going to design it in my children heads as disgusting cause that’s how you build hatred! Grow up people stop the hatred people are who they are love them for who they are not for whom you want them to be! Grow up stop acting childish there is always room for maturity.

Great post Lindalu.

Awesome post spot on thank you

It’s going to be so sad when Marlena learns of John’s death. I know the role won’t be recast and hopefully the soap will give us something groundbreaking and give us a realistic portrayal of what goes on when a woman Marlena’s age loses her soulmate Julie, Maggie and Marlena can form a support group for widows even though in the cases of Maggie and Marlena there is still enough fire for them to enter into other relationships. I would love to see them try dating again. In a way the real life deaths of John A. and Drake H. will make it easier for their characters to remarry again or have companions. As for Julie – don’t even try- no one can replace Doug.

Leo and javi are awesome and so what do u leave the room when it’s tate and Holly kissing I mean really plus there actors doing a damn good job

I am ready for the closure if poor John. It’s gone on too long as usual with DOOL. I am ready for the younger actors to get amazing story lines. I like the newer ones

I totally agree

They film almost 9 months in advance. Frankly, the It’s gone on too long comment is offensive. We’re talking about someone’s real death, Drake Hogestyn was alive and helping with the writing of all this, giving his permission to use his own impending death as part of the show.

I like the new storylines. I believe this is the new writers. But last week, March 17-21 was some really great acting. Especially between EJ & Johnny. I am upset that Joy left but I feel she will be back. And I am not looking forward to the John Black death revealed and memorial… I have 2 boxes of tissues ready.

After the conclusion of John’s death storyline and Marlena’s mourning, I would like to see Marlena with Steve Olson. Stephen Schnetzer is a dynamic actor, and I think he and Deidre would work very well together.

It feels disrespectful to even discuss a new love interest for Marlena even though we know we are talking about a fictional character and it’s something that will have to be done eventually. I love your suggestion of Stephen Schnetzer and I believe Doug Davidson would be a good fit if the decision is based solely on talent and ease with the genre.

Viewers already know Steve Olson. Doug Davidson’s character might not work, and he is known as a troublemaker.

Leo and Jovi doesn’t bother me. I just feel a little creepy watching teenagers having sex. They’re High School kids. But I watch it any way.

Neither Javi or Leo are in high school; they’re adults.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Favorites Making Returns: Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Chandler Massey and Bryan Dattilo

Great news for Days of Our Lives fans, now that Ryan Quan is co-head writer of the long-running soap opera. Coming in June of 2027 (since DAYS tapes ten or so months ahead), you can look forward to the returns of Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton).

The foursome is back on set and began last week to tape their upcoming story arc, according to TV Insider. As to what exactly is going on that brings sister Sami and Carrie’s history back up, as well as Will and Lucas’ is only being teased at this time, but suffice to say, it should be intriguing.

Alison Sweeney explained on being back on set, “It was a lot of dialogue and emotion, but with all the best actors to work opposite, we fell into it as if no time had passed. It was really wonderful.”

As to working with the longstanding rivalry of Sami and Carrie, Alison added on working with Clark, “So, it really does feel like we’re sisters. It’s so fun, and she’s such a good actor that she makes everything so natural that you can really disappear into those stories.”

JUST LIKE OLD TIMES

It also seems like the deep-history, which often had the sister fighting for the love of Austin Reed, but that might not figure into the equation this time, or will it?

Alison indicated what she thought of the scripts she was given. “I felt like when I read it, it was a page-turner. I was very excited. There’s a lot of history here, and a lot of things that haven’t been said. So, it’s really not like, ‘Oh, rehashing stuff.’ And now having played some of the scenes, I’m psyched.” Sweeney added, as for the men, working again with her on-screen son, Chandler Massey and Will’s on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, was also extra special.

The last time DAYS viewers saw Sami on the canvas was back in November of 2025, when she revealed she has gotten engaged to never-before-seen Dante Vitali. As for Clark, she last visited Salem for the episodes surrounding John Black’s memorial in June of 2025.

Chandler Massey’s Will Horton last made a visit to Salem in November of 2025 when he attended the gala for the Tom Horton Free Clinic as part of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary celebration. Bryan Dattilo was last seen in December of 2025. So, by the time we see all four again it will be close to two years since they were on new episodes of the series. Time to look forward to June of 2027.

So, excited by the news of Alison, Christie, Chandler and Lucas making a return to Days of Our Lives? What do you think the story will be involving, Sami, Carrie, Lucas and Will? Let us know via the comment section.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Talks On His Daytime Emmy-Nominated Scenes as Javi Hernandez (Exclusive)

Last Tuesday, Al Calderon scored the first Emmy nomination of his career for his role as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives.

Calderon name was announced as one of the performers competing for gold in the Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30.

This week, Calderon chatted live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel for a one-on-one conversation where he discussed: his nominated scenes and time on the Peacock streaming soap opera, his decision to leave DAYS, his role of Nico Silva on Brilliant Minds and its sad cancellation, plus his passing the torch of Javi to Jacob Martinez, who took over the role on-screen on the June 30, 2026 episode of Days of Our Lives.

JAVI REVEALS TO LEO THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DIED

Al revealed the scenes that comprise his now Emmy-nominated reel have at its epicenter the heartbreaking moments from the September 12, 2025 episode. In it, Javi shares for the first time to Leo (Greg Rikaart) that he had a daughter named Solana, with a woman he was seeing named Sylvia. One fateful day, Sylvia left their child in a car when she went to work and the little girl died. Javi had blamed himself for not being the parent to take his daughter to school that day since he was hungover the night before, therefore it opened up the opportunity for something to happen to the his child, and it did.

The multi-talented actor/singer explained his reel: “It was the scene where he is talking about his daughter to Leo. I also included the scene where Javi goes to talk to Melinda (Tina Huang) and to see if it would be a viable option to adopt, because I wanted to introduce the subtlety and nuance of why Javi kind of has this whole connection to Tesoro, in a way.”

It is true that Al can bring the tears and make us cry right along with him during his run as Javi.  To that, Calderon added, “I’ve read the comments that I’m a little bit of a crybaby, so I didn’t want the entire reel to be of me crying, but I wanted it to show a little bit of an emotional range of the restraint that Javi was feeling so I included that scene

In addition Calderon shared, “I also included a really beautiful scene with Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS) where I’m looking at photos of Tesoro, and of course, Javi is crying. I just wanted to show the relationship between Javi and his family as well, and as I mentioned the reveal of the child that he lost.”

ALUMS AL CALDERON AND ALICE HALSEY REPRESENT DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN EMERGING TALENT CATEGORY

In a twist of fate, Calderon is also nominated in the Emerging Talent category with Alice Halsey who played Rachel Black. Halsey is currently starring in the reboot of Little House on the Prairie in the lead role of Laura Ingalls on Netflix.

As to his hope on Emmy night, Al expressed, “Of course, I want to win, but Alice Halsey is going to give me a run for the money. And if’s not me (who wins the award), it better be her!”

You can check out the full interview with Al below.

Now let us know, do you remember Al’s emotional scenes when he explained to Leo he had a daughter who died, which made it all the more heartbreaking to not end up with permanent custody of Tesoro? What do you think of Al’s chances to win the gold based on his Emmy scene selection? Do you miss him as Javi? Weigh-in via the comment section.

Emily O'Brien

On the latest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped on Tuesday, July 21, Emily O’Brien is the featured guest. As soap fans know, Emily has worked with Rikaart both in her first soap role on The Young and the Restless as Jana Hawkes and now on Days of Our Lives in her current role of Gwen Rizczech.

While Emily continues on DAYS, she has very impressive list of credits in the other part of her career as a voice-over actress and one in motion-capture in some of the most popular video games in the world.

O’Brien was first seen on The Young and the Restless back in 2006. She recalled her landing the role which eventually paired her for her five year run with Greg Rikaart.

Photo: JPI

BEING CAST ON THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS

“The role was just a few days and she wasn’t even supposed to be English,” Emily recalled. “The role was originally called Jade. Karen Rae, the casting director of The Young and the Restless at the time said to me “Oh, you’re from England. Try it with the dialect.” I put it on and she said, ‘I’m going to bring you back at like 3 for s callback.’ So then they changed the role to Jana and they said she’s going to be a Brit. I was only supposed to be on for like five episodes and it turned into 5 years.”

In explaining why she loved crazy Jana, Emily shared, “Jana was sort of like the misanthrope. She was just was the odd one out and I loved it. I felt so comfortable playing that because she was just eclectic and weird and she loved playing with Ouija boards and she rode a motorbike. There was just so much color to bring to her. It was just such a great match to play with Greg (Kevin), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren).

GWEN, DIMITRI AND LEO ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES

On Days of Our Lives, the Leo, Gwen, Dimitri dynamic is quite unique and been through many schemes and entanglements. Often Emily finds herself in repartee with her ex-lover, Dimitri, who turned out to be gay and then had a thing for her bestie, Leo (Greg Rikaart)!

During the conversation, Greg and Emily sang, Peter Porte’s praised with O’Brien expressing, “Peter is just ready to play. He comes on set prepared. I’ve never seen him with his script. From blocking and rehearsals, he doesn’t have it. He’s prepared. He’s a physical actor and he always trying to come up with something. I think he let me slap him. He let me kiss him. He let me throw a cheeseburger in his lap. He’s ready for anything for anything.”

You can catch the full episode of ‘Soapy; featuring Emily O’Brien below where the actress also talks about replacing Jen Lilley as Theresa Donovan after being let go as Gwen; and being paired again with Greg Rikaart on the Peacock streaming soap opera this time as best friends and more.

So, were you a big Jana Hawkes and Kevin Fisher fan on Y&R? Did you like them as a couple? Do you like the dynamic between Emily and Peter Porte and Greg Rikaart on DAYS? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
