DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Whitley to Marlena, “How Can I Not Know Who You Are! You’re Just The Queen Diva of My Favorite Soap Opera”

On Thursday’s July 27th recap of Days of our Lives, Marlena (Deidre Hall) comes to visit Whitley (Kim Coles) who is in the interrogation room at the Salem PD.  Whitley, who has had a psychotic break, sees the good doc walk in and exclaims, “Oh, my heavens. What are you doing here?”

Whitley is beyond thrilled to see her. Marlena asks if she knows who she is, and Whitley says, “How can I not know who you are? You’re just the queen diva of my favorite soap!”   In the twist, Whitley believes Marlena is Charlemagne Delacroix from Body & Soul.  And of course, in actuality, Whitley is correct.  For it was Deidre Hall as Charlemagne in the fictitious soapy send up that Abe (James Reynolds) was watching while in captivity at Whitley’s apartment.

In the present, Marlena tells Whitley she is a psychiatrist who is here to help her.  She explains that she knows that Whitley blames herself for her husband’s death, which is why she tried to replace him with Abe. Marlena also tells Whitley, she’s not Paulina Price. That in fact, she is Whitley King.

It’s at that moment that Whitley voices: “But I don’t want to be Whitley King.”  She knows that if she is Whitley that means she killed her husband and has nothing to live for.  A guilt-ridden Whitley doesn’t feel she deserves help, but Marlena says otherwise.

Suddenly, the door flings open and the real Paulina (Jackée Harry) enters the interrogation room. Paulina intensely informs Whitley that Abe doesn’t even recognize her, as he still has amnesia even after being rescued.  Whitley states, “If there’s anything I can do to help.” At the moment, Paulina bitch-slaps her, adding, “You can shut your damn mouth!”  Marlena tells Paulina to leave, but before she does she rants at Whitley for the hurt she has caused her family and specifically, Abe.

So, what did you think of the Whitley’s line to Marlena being the ‘queen diva’ of her favorite soap, which is also referring to Deidre Hall’s reign as the longtime favorite on Days of our Lives? Comment below.

I loved the episodes of Body & Soul. So much fun!

I don’t think they portray real life situations for example when loni as saying good bye to her father & Paulina b 4 going back to prison. She didn’t give her brother Theo hug, which in real ife she would have. I am also tired of having to wait a week or more to learn what happened in a Friday cliff hanger. i.e., when Loni found Abe, we had to wait more than a week to find out what happened. They drag things out for too long….I know it is for ratings & to build suspense, but sometimes it is carried to far. Also when Loni was missing, the first thing they would have done was check location of ankle monitor.

DAYS really feels like a parody of itself. It has for a long time. Nothing can be taken seriously anymore, everything is pure camp and played for unintentional laughs. This story was ridiculous from the get-go, and the callback to Marlena being possessed REALLY didn’t help.

Things have gotten beyond ridiculous. I should have stopped watching when they did that absurd devil story. I don’t know how the writers weren’t fired. Now they expect us to believe that Kristen’s litany of crimes from drugging Sarah to kidnapping and multiple jailbreaks are ignored because some fancy footwork got her pardoned, but she gets full custody when it was never requested. Charges were never brought against Brady for the gun, so legally, he also has a clean slate, and anyway, threats don’t compare to what Kristen did. No judge would ever bring Phillip into it because the situation was not related to Rachel and again, not guilty. If anything, she should have declared both of them unsafe and put the kid in a foster home, which would have created more compelling drama. Realistically, Rachel has hardly spent any time with Kristen, who has been too busy evading the law and spending time in prison to bond with her daughter, so there is no reason for Rachel to be so adamant about wanting to be with her mother. Also, she wanted her parents to be together so it doesn’t make sense for her to suddenly go against Brady. All in all, poor writing.

I think Whitley really is a sick woman. Once she gets the proper help, she could be arecurring character we see from time to time.
