Days Of Our Lives
Days of our Lives Turns 55 Today; Premiered Back On November 8, 1965
In a historic milestone for the longest-running scripted drama in NBC history, Days of our Lives today turns 55-years-young. The series created by Ted and Betty Corday, debuted on the peacock network back on November 8th, 1965 as the lives of the Hortons and their extended family and friends took centerstage.
Over the years, the Hortons have been joined by the Bradys and the DiMeras, to fill the town of Salem with drama, romance, intrigue, and high action-adventure.
The series is currently executive produced by Ken Corday, along with Albert Alaar and head-written by Ron Carlivati with a set of beloved cast members and newcomers to keep the show alive through all of its incarnations and ups and downs.
DAYS has been spotlighted over the years for some of the most iconic soap storylines and romances and superrcouples ever in the genre including: Bo and Hope, John and Marlena, Jack and Jennifer and so many others. The possession storyline featuring DAYS legacy star, Deidre Hall (Marlena) remains to this day a fan favorite under then head writer, James Reilly.
As previously announced, DAYS will celebrate with their fans on Saturday, November 21st when NBC’s annual Day of Days event goes virtual. Check out the details here.
Congratulations to the cast, crew and creatives, and those who came before them for keeping Salem a great place to visit and to be part of all viewers extended family each weekday afternoon.

Why no big flashy storylines or high profile returns like for the 50th??
Flashy storylines etc during Covid?
General Hospital is telling a whole host of flashy storylines right now! They are telling one of the ugliest storylines in the show’s history, with Tripp being accused of raping Allie. We KNOW he didn’t do it, so it is extra painful to watch him be accused. We don’t know a lot about Allie either, and this is compromising her character. Another World did this story when Morgan was accused of raping Lorna. All My Children did it when Ryan Lavery was accused of raping that Montgomery sister. It’s just an ugly, non-suspenseful, hard to watch story on any show, on any network. Money could have been better spent on bringing back a Horton or two. Or a week filled with classic flashbacks. Something to honour the anniversary!
I am hoping NBC releases solo publicity images from their recent shoot, and not a select number of the usual faces. I’d love a major release!
Happy Birthday!!!!! I haven’t watched for 55 years, but a good portion of it. 🙂
Congratulations! I wish that I could say that I’m enjoying the show the way I used too, but that would be a lie. I tune in for certain couples & that’s it. Writers have been disappointing since the so called successful time jump..
I do agree with you and just watch the interesting parts or couples as you said. I sure didn’t need to be reminded of Kate’s affair all those years ago with Bill Horton, resulting in Lucas’s birth. Good thing she’s too old to breed, since she’s had a child with every man she’s slept with.
Marci Miller, Stacey Haiduk, Linsey Godfrey, Sal Stowers, God, how does Lauren Koslow do it ! she stuns ( Abs, Kristen, Sarah, Lani, Kate )

OK mortals.. here’s a longshot theory that just popped into a Devil’s head….
If you listened carefully to what Kayla said about the results of the DNA test, she’s sure that Tripp is baby Henry’s father as he’s a match and the only other person who could be a match would be Steve.
Well obviously Steve wouldn’t have had sex with Allie……..
Except Steve at the time was under the control of the Stefano brain chip delusion. And since he doesn’t remember most of what he did while being chipped, he wouldn’t know. I don’t think Stefano (or somebody delusionally thinking he is Stefano) would rape a teenage girl necessarily, but I DO think that Chip-Stefano would dream up a scheme with his favorite mad scientist Dr. Rolf to create a “vessel” for a clone – which we already know Rolf is working on – and Allie, being Marlena’s granddaughter, would be somebody who Stefano would choose to carry his “seed”.
No actual rape probably occurred though… it was probably an artificial insemination, similar to when the real Stefano impregnated Susan with Baby Elvis back in 1997.
The alternate theory is that this new Charlie kid is somehow Tripp’s brother, since we know that Ava Vitali is due in Salem any minute now. But is Steve even Charlie’s father?? If not, then Kayla’s words seem to point to Steve himself being daddy without having any knowledge of the deed.

DAYS Lauren Koslow Temporarily Fills-In for Jess Walton as ‘The Young and the Restless’ Jill Abbott
In a ironic twist, Lauren Koslow, who currently plays Kate Roberts on Days of Our Lives is returning to The Young and the Restless to play Jill Abbott while temporarily filling in for Jess Walton. Koslow will appear for five episodes beginning on Thursday, June 25.
Koslow first appeared on The Young and the Restless back in 1984 in what was her first soap opera role when she was cast as Lindsey Wells. Now, she returns decades later subbing for Walton, who due to a scheduling conflict, was was unable to travel to Los Angeles when the storyline called for Jill. The Emmy-winning Walton has played the Jill since 1987 and went on recurring status with the show in 2012. Jess also left Los Angeles to reside in Oregon in 2011.
Making this all the richer was the original Jill played by Brenda Dickson, often shared scenes with Koslow’s Y&R character. Lauren played Lindsey Wells until 1986, before moving over to The Bold and the Beautiful as Margo Lynley. Koslow was B&B’s Margo from 1987–1992, and again in 2002. Then, in 1996, she was cast on Days of Our Lives as Kate Roberts, replacing Deborah Adair, and she has been in Salem ever since. But there’s still another another twist to this casting history. Y&R viewers recall Deborah Adair also played Jill, after Brenda Dickson left in 1980, and following a brief stint by Bond Gideon, before heading to DAYS to originate the role of Kate.

THE DAYS AND Y&R CONNECTION
As soap fans know, Days of Our Lives and The Young and the Restless are both part of Sony. Y&R is produced by Bell Dramatic Serial Company in association with Sony Pictures Television, while DAYS is owned by Corday Productions and distributed by Sony.
So, having Koslow visit The Young and the Restless to fill in for Jess Walton has nothing to do with her continued role of Kate on DAYS. In fact, a rep for the show shared that her upcoming appearance on Y&R, “does not affect her status with the show in any way.” Recently, Stacy Haiduk reprised her role of Patty Williams on Y&R, even though she is still being seen as Kristen DiMera on DAYS.
In a joint statement offered up to TV Insider, executive producer, Sally McDonald and head writer, Josh Griffith expressed, “We’re extremely grateful to Lauren Koslow for returning to her Y&R roots and temporarily stepping into the role of Jill. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Ken Corday (executive producer) and Noel Maxam (co-executive producer) at Days of Our Lives and Peacock. Their support embodies the collaborative spirit of the daytime television community.”
McDonald and Griffith clarified that Jess Walton is forever their Jill and shared, “Jess Walton is an enduring cornerstone of Y&R. We look forward to welcoming her back to Genoa City as her schedule permits and celebrating her extraordinary 40th anniversary as the iconic Jill Abbott.”
So, what do you think of Days of Our Lives Lauren Koslow stepping in for Jess Walton as Jill Abbott? Excited to see what she does in the role while filling in for the Jess? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Shares Parting Thoughts on ‘Brilliant Minds’ Following its Cancellation
Last week, NBC pulled the plug on the medical drama, Brilliant Minds, as the last 6 episodes of its second and final season will begin to air later this month. The series which saw its ratings plummet was taken off the schedule in February, with reports of it being on the bubble until finally the decision was handed down.
Al Calderon, who departed Days of our Lives in the role of Javi Hernandez in 2025 to join the primetime series as Nurse Nico Silva, was a part of the stellar cast that also featured One Life to Live alum, Teddy Sears (ex-Chad Bennett) and series star, Zachary Quinto.
On Brilliant Minds, Quinto plays neurology physician Oliver Wolf, who’s character and the series is inspired by the life and books of neurologist. Oliver Sacks. The series focuses on the medical mysteries of the mind, as Wolf a larger-than-life neurologist and his team of interns explore the last great frontier, the human mind, while grappling with their own relationships and mental health.

In a real-life twist, Days of our Lives announced Calderon’s successor, Jacob Martinez as the new Javi debuting this June on April 30. Come May 1, NBC canceled Brilliant Minds. Now, on Wednesday, May 6, Al Calderon took a moment to reflect on his experience at Bronx General Hospital, the backdrop of Brilliant Minds, via a post on his Instagram.
“Thank you Brilliant Minds” Calderon began. “What a life changing experience. Met forever friends. Learned from the absolute best. Was reminded that my voice mattered. Learned that it’s okay to believe in yourself. Felt like I was part of something. While our beautiful show has gone onto glory we’ve got 6 more incredible episodes to share with you starting May 27th.”
Al also added, “NBC and Warner Brothers TV, thank you for allowing me to be silly and quippy, Demane Davis, Michael Grassi, David Rapaport, Zachary Quinto, thank you for all of your encouragement and support.”
As his heartfelt post came to a close, Calderon explained why the experience on Brilliant Minds was life-changing: “I’ve been at this a long time and this show gave me hope for the future of my career. I owe it to these incredible individuals. Our crew. Our writers. Our editors. The whole shebang. I love you all endlessly.”
Taking to the comment threads were several of Al’s Brilliant Minds and DAYS former co-stars, and even his successor, Jacob Martinez jumped in and shared, “YOU are brilliant 💕”
What did you think of Al’s heartfelt message about his time on Brilliant Minds? Will you miss seeing him on DAYS and on the primetime series? Looking forward to seeing what he will do next? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Jacob Martinez on LGBTQ Representation, ‘Javi is the Kind of Character I Wish I Could Have Looked Up to On Television as a Kid’
Next month, Jacob Martinez will make his highly-anticipated debut as the recast Javi Martinez on Peacock. Martinez takes over the role from Al Calderon who wraps on-screen in May. Since DAYS tapes ten months ahead of streaming new episodes, Jacob has been firmly entrenched in Salem for quite awhile now.
Martinez who is out in real life, shared how he realized the importance of LGBTQ and Latino representation in movies, television and streaming projects, and on DAYS when Javi is now played by Jacob, he will be in the thick of the drama with the man he had married, Leo Stark and the other members of the Hernandez family and more.
The young actor who is also quite the singer, spoke with OUT about working on a soap opera for the first time in his career, and what makes Javi, one of the most beloved and unique character’s on the soaps these days. In an ironic twist, Javi is a paramedic, and Jacob has also worked similarly in a related field.
“Being Hispanic, gay, and an emergency medical technician definitely helped me draw from real-life experiences when I got the role, explained Martinez. “But after reading the first few scripts, it became clear to me what truly drives this character: his heart. Javi is the type of person who constantly puts others before himself — not only on the job, but in his personal life as well.”
JAVI CAN CHANGE LIVES
Jacob who was born in Nebraska, didn’t publicly come out until he was 22, and shared he didn’t have the easiest time growing up: “You can probably imagine what it was like growing up as a closeted, gay, Christian boy in a conservative red state, with a preacher for a grandfather and a dash of Hispanic intolerance.”
Speaking on his takeaway from his time thus far inhabiting the on-screen life of Javi Hernandez on the long-running soap, Martinez expressed, “The truth is, Javi is the kind of character I wish I could have looked up to on television as a kid. Getting the chance to hopefully be that inspiration for another kid somewhere in a small town makes it all worthwhile.”
Make sure to circle June 30 for the new Javi to show up on your screens in Salem. Now the question is, will he be back in the story with a new love, trying to get back with Leo, or will forces keep them continually apart?
What did you think about Jacob’s thoughts on the importance of having a role model such as Javi for young latino and gay men to look up to on TV and to see themselves reflected in our pop culture? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
