Tonight in ceremonies in San Francisco at the 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Days of our Lives was named the Outstanding Daily Drama besting All My Children, the only other nominee in the category.  DAYS won for Will and Sonny’s storylines, and on-hand were Chandler Massey (Will) and Freddie Smith (Sonny) to accept on behalf of the NBC soap.

Other honorees at Saturday’s ceremony in San Francisco included Grey’s Anatomy for drama series, Max J. Rosenthal of The Huffington Post for digital journalism article, Wells Fargo for the Corporate Leader Award and Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes for the Golden Gate Award.

The awards salute fair, accurate and inclusive representation of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives in the media.  Other winners from among this year’s 35 categories were honored at ceremonies in New York and Los Angeles over the past few years.

Hopefully the reboot of the reboot of the reboot of Days of Our Lives will include more Freddie Smith and some stuff for Will, like frustrating realistic crushes on inappropriate men (Like one of his step dads haha or Chad) –and a date or two. I like that he is involved in storylines that have nothing to do with being gay, as if he was just a “normal” character (which he is) but I also don’t wan’t coming out to be the end for that part of him. Crushes, romance, sex that doesn’t live up to the hype if not… Read more »

Totally agree! Chandler is awesome, but we need more Freddie. After all, Sonny is the first gay character on the show. He deserves more airtime. It would be nice to learn a little more about his past. According to Freddie Smith, we will see more of him this summer! YEA!!!

Patrick replied June 1st, 2012 at 2:47 pm DAYS is providing a keen insight and opportunity with this JUGGERNAUT story and HUGE Accolades to the Actors adeptly delivering tour de fource Show. first and foremost… DAYS, for all intents and purpose, has stepped up to the plate… front burner status. I hope DAYS continues… throughout it’s tenure… on the air… Keep Chandler Massey… his talent.. and sensitive.. portrayal… is affective, and thought provoking. Ms. Deidre Hall. Thank you. I’m appreciating you much more so. I read your’s and Chandlers interview in soap digest… perhaps, it’s with age… maturity. Our common sensibilities…. reaching for connection. What a duo… you and Will… are forever etched in DAYS. Aside, from Marlena’s “world”… John and Sammi, to mention a few… I wish Carrie was staying. It’s Chandler Massey… who’s cemented your characters belonging… LOL. your Veteran Legacy. That trust and commitment to act… an invariable… must… “we exist”. it’s a sharing, loving, nurturing combustion (if you will).. that lights up DAYS screen.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES: Julie Stands Up to MarDevil; Susan Seaforth Hayes Reminds Us Why She is Soap Royalty

Friday’s episode of Days of our Lives brought with it, let’s just say, not your typical Turkey Day episode in Salem.  It also moved the story along with MarDevil being exposed!

At Julie’s (Susan Seaforth Hayes) Thanksgiving, Doug (Bill Hayes) shouts that Marlena (Deidre Hall) is the devil. However, Marlena still insists that Doug is delusional and needs to be locked back up.  It is then that Julie stands by her husband.  Julie is on to Marlena and wonders if she should call “Marlena,” who she truly is at the moment, “Satan”.

Courtesy/NBC

Shawn (Brandon Beemer) and Belle (Martha Madison) also believe something is terribly wrong.  Marlena tells them this is ridiculous, but Belle wants to hear what else Doug has to say.  Then, Shawn handcuffs Marlena to take her down to the station for questioning.  Julie doesn’t believe for one second that handcuffs will restrain the devil, and she was right! MarDevil breaks the cuffs and flings Shawn across the Thanksgiving dinner table complete with food-a-flying, leaving him unconscious.

Now with yellow eyes and lights flickering, MarDevil goes after Doug and Julie, but Julie stops Satan in his tracks professing “Not today, Satan!” Just then, MarDevil grabs a knife and in a counter move, Julie holds out her rosary saying love is the power and that the God of love is stronger than the devil! Julie defiantly tells MarDevil that the truth is out and Satan’s reign of terror is over! But MarDevil turns the tables and sneers, “It will never be over!”

It was in these scenes opposite Deidre Hall, that Susan Seaforth Hayes shined as she has done for decades given the material, as Julie went the toe-to-toe with the devil and Susan made us believe that love can win out over everything, especially the love of Doug and Julie.

In another touching moment in the episode, Susan Banks (Stacy Haiduk) tells EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) from her hospital bed, how she used herself as a human sacrifice for the devil to keep John alive and to protect her son.  An emotional EJ can’t believe that Susan was willing to die for him. However, Susan explains that a mother always protects their child and she would do it all over again when faced with that decision.  Haiduk and Feurriegel also delivered in these scenes.

With John (Drake Hogestyn) freed by Anna (Leann Hunley) and Tony (Thaao Penghlis), he eventually makes his way into the Horton house to confront MarDevil, but Satan is gone.  Instead, John finds Shawn with Doug and Julie and they inform him that MarDevil had left to fulfill her true purpose.  Just then, Marlena arrives at Ben (Rob Scott Wilson) and Ciara’s (Victoria Konefal). We fade to black.

Now below, check out Susan Seaforth Hayes in a scene from Friday’s episode as Julie fends off the devil.

Then, let us know, what did you think of Susan’s performance? What do you think MarDevil will do next to Ben and Ciara and “their” baby? Did you enjoy the Susan and EJ scenes? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
