DAYS Peter Reckell Shares: "These New Writers Are Really Inspired For The 50th Anniversary. They Will Have You Laughing, Crying, Jumping For Joy!"

Days of our Lives icon Peter Reckell (Bo Brady) is giving out some major kudos to DAYS new head writing team of Dena Higley and Josh Griffith, who are apparently turning the show on its ear, and are apparently penning inspired storytelling come time for the show’s 50th anniversary milestone.

Over the last few months, everyone On-Air On-Soaps has spoken to from the cast, the powers-that-be, and those behind the scenes are over the moon with the scripts and the storylines that they are taping, and that viewers will see come this fall.  DAYS turns 50 on November 8th.

Today on Twitter, Reckell shared: “These new writers are really inspired for the 50th anniversary. They will have you laughing, crying, jumping for joy!!!”  In addition, Reckell said in a previous tweet:  “The show has been on hiatus this week, so I went camping with family! Looking forward to Salem this next week, have some amazing material!!”

So, do you think Josh Griffith and Dena Higley have found the golden formula to make sure that DAYS 5-0 is one for the soap opera record books? What do you think will be Bo’s story when he returns on-air?  Are you excited by all the enthusiasm and all the big returns from Thaao Penghlis, Stephen Nichols, Jason Cook, Reckell and more?  Comment below!

This is all sounds very good for DAYS! It pleases me that Peter Reckell and other cast members are excited by the new writing team. This is great news. Looking forward to the return of Thaao, Stephen, Peter Jason, and Allison.
I just wish NBC would realize that the advance taping may have been very effective in the past, but it’s not working now. Fix that problem, it has to be addressed, so the show can quickly fix casting issues, storylines, etc. in a quicker fashion.

I agree about the 5 months, they Need to ‘re think their letting go of good actors like sonny, and Melanie…..what’s up with that…I am a little disgusted watching gay men kiss and make out…not right read the bible.
Get rid Massey he does a terrible job of acting,of will.

You sound like a homophobe, If you think seeing 2 men kissing, is discussing then dont watch Days of our Lives. You are a bigot.

Besides the stupidity of the comment regarding two men kissing I have to make one slight correction to your inane rant, Ms. Davis. Chandler Massey hasn’t played Will Horton for over a year. The actor portraying Will Horton now is Guy Wilson. Get a grip lady, your knowledge of the cast is just as poor as your alleged Biblical knowledge. The Bible actually does not address two men kissing on television. In fact it says nothing about men and women kissing on television. So if you’re gonna use that make believe book as a tool to get your point across… Read more »

I don’t know it this will get pass the moderators because it is really off topic but I do wish to address Becky’s comments and those who responded to it. I will try to be brief @ Becky– if you are going to judge fictional characters and stories by Biblical standards then you need to judge all of them. You cannot say you offended by the gay storyline because it is not right, yet be okay watching, premarital sex, adultery, murder, lying, or any other sinful behavior, because those too are not right. If you’re okay watching immorality and are… Read more »

There is an old saying “don’t argue with an idiot”. Becky, your comments are so absurd and inane they really don’t warrant a response. However, if you’re unhappy with the direction the show is taking, then by all means don’t be a part of the viewing audience. Honestly, no one is forcing you to watch the show.

Wont judge the stories for the 50th until i see them……so far the guest appearances are exciting! Keep them coming! Wish they could get Denise Alexander for a few eps.—she was Julie’s rival Susan Martin.—would love it if she showed up as Anne’s mother. Susan did have a daughter named Annie.

ps: I had “NO” idea.. she was on DAYS

I absolutely loved Lesley and Rick Webber… OK : give me this… I loved him

ie: Lesley ; the character was killed off in March 1984. Angry fans picketed the studio, upset that the character had died.[4] In 1996, the series wrote the character back on, and Alexander appeared in a recurring status until October 2009

HOT stuff

I hope … she returns… to GH.. and rights her grandson… Nikolas… she’a a HOOT

There have been rumors that Days of Our Lives will not be renewed for 2017, as of now. Days will stick around till September 2016. The ratings are really bad now. I enjoy Days but the Serena storyline is boring and Dragging on and on.

Well I am glad to hear that they are making a true effort to make the 50th year special. I am looking forward to it, and hope it lives up to the press being put out there to create buzz. It only saddens me to think they are making this effort only because of the 50th, and not because they truly want to improve the show. Why does it take a special milestone for producers and higher ups to finally make changes to set the show back on course? Don’t get me wrong I am happy the show seems to… Read more »

To su0000,

I am a devout OLTL fan and had never seen DOOL until 1 year ago. Since then, I’ve become a regular Days viewer and really enjoy it. I watched Y&R for 2 years and finally couldn’t take it anymore. Days certainly cannot replace OLTL in my opinion; but, it is fun and generally well done. Hope you enjoy it.

I wasn’t watching when Peter left; i hadn’t watched Days in YEARS. i came in just before Kristen left, just as Sami left. I’ve LOVED THIS SHOW SO MUCH and hope to never stop watching again.

Don’t know why Peter left, but i’m not missing him. i know DOOL can sell it tho, and i may end up happy he’s back.

HEY DOOL why all the days that DAYS isn’t showing? there was a monday one week, a friday one week, now no show on thurs OR fri this week? COME ON!

I’m looking forward to the 50th anniversary and the months leading up to it. But we’re still a long way away from mid to late August when some of the returning veterans start to air. I can’t believe we have to wait so long for all this good stuff to happen.

I have watched days since day one. I am SO excited to hear that Bo, Steve, and Tony are coming back to Salem. From what I hear in this report, as bad as the winter was here this past year, and our summers are so short as it is, I can’t wait for September! I am so looking forward to some decent storylines for a change. And better acting now that the veterans are returning. I hope it’s not all hype, and has some real promise in what they say. Im so excited for this & def can get behind Josh Griffith. But Im a little annoyed that Corday would turn the reigns over to TWICE fired Dena Higley. Most viewers hated her stints in the writers room and the answer is to rehire her a third time. I think what makes that decision so frustrating is that Lorraine Broderick is right there to pair with Josh which would have been magical, but instead they go with Dena Higley again. I def know the 50th Anniversary will be amazing, but the bigger question is what happens after this big moment.… Read more »

I’m really looking forward to the stories starting in August. Hopefully this means the current storylines will start getting better because a lot of them will be wrapping up and they will likely be getting rid of characters like Clyde to make room and save money for the vets coming back.

“Laughing, crying jumping for joy” sounds like a Bo and Hope reconciliation to me! Didn’t expect Bo to take Hope divorcing him and moving forward with Aiden – or any man for that matter – lying down! (Don’t think Peter could take it either! I think he likes Bo and Hope as a supercouple too!)

Days could make a huge storyline out of telling what Bo has been doing since he left Salem! Speaking of jumping for joy, I might do that if they brought back Joe Gallison (Neil Curtis), Gloria Poring (Liz) and Jed Allen (Don’t Craig). Also they say Tommy Horton, Jr. went upstairs at Horton house and never came down again. I think the actor who played Tom Jr is deceased. But what Days could down is have Tom Jr’s grandson come down the stairs at Horton house and say something about his grandfather. A whole lot has gone on upstairs at… Read more »

Days has a lot of potential. There are some stellar cast members. However people keep choosing to look back instead of looking forward. I mean please, how much Bo and Hope can any one stomach take. They will never be what they were in their hey day. Same for Marlena and John. Some of these couples are things of the past. Time to move forward and accept it. It’s great that they are bringing back some of the actors from the past but it would be silly to bring them back to “tease” the audience about getting something they most… Read more »

Hi janet!

Maybe you’re talking about Matthew Ashford as Jack, but he was not the original Jack. Here’s a list containing the five Jacks, including Matthew Ashford’s three stints:

Joseph Adams (1987)
James Acheson (1987)
Matthew Ashford (1987-1993)
Mark Valley (1994-1997)
Steve Wilder (1997-1998)
Matthew Ashford (2001-2007)
Matthew Ashford (2011-2012)

Joseph Adams was blonde and scruffy…much like patch.
James Acheson was more of a preppy like the most well know Jack…Matthew Ashford, but James was not seasoned.
Mark Valley was really good, but when he was in the shower, he turned into Steve Wilder…MID EPISODE!!

I hope Matthew Ashford comes back!!!

Matthew Ashford was the Jack I liked. He was the last one, TIIC destroyed. Missy and Matt had great on screen chemistry. M A is the one I would love to see returned. At one time days was the show you didn’t want to miss. Now I just don’t bother with any soaps. Oh I know he wasn’t the original, I also remember him coming on..If I happen to turn the show on out of curiosity, I think that is a different show.

I continue to watch because I know I will miss the show if it ever goes away. One of the biggest problems is knowing that Serena, Zander, Melanie and Sonny are all leaving in the next few months and so much of the show revolves around their story lines. The show MUST stop taping so far in advance and get rid of story lines that are HORRIBLE. Did someone at NBC actually think a ceramic elephant storyline sounded interesting involving characters we do not know or care about? Pride Month Celebrating LGBTQ+ Soap Supercouples: Nuke, Kish, Otalia & WilSon … Which Stands the Test of Time?

June is Pride Month, the time when across the U.S and the world there are celebrations and commemorations to recognize all who identify as LGBTQ and their allies.

Daytime soap operas have had a rocky road when it comes to the representation of same-sex couples.  The soaps have been at one time leaders in portraying key social issues of our time, as well as treading lightly on other subjects, as to its concerns to ‘turn-off’ its core audiences.

When you look back at the groundbreaking first same-sex weddings, and the first gay kiss, the soaps have come far in some ways in their representations of gay characters, but there is always work to be done to serve and to shed light on the under-represented.

As we reflect back to the then and the now, which LGBTQ soap supercouple remains your favorite and had made a lasting impact? Let’s take a look at four duos who captivated many viewers.

Nuke  – Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer – As the World Turns

Van Hansis (Luke) and Jake Silbermann (Noah) were a key part of the evolution of, and representation of LGBTQ character on the soaps.  ‘Nuke’, as they were known as, became the first gay male soap couple to share an on-screen kiss back in 2007.  ATWT also became known as the first soap to depict a fully realized romantic male couple as an integral part of the show.  There was plenty of backlash along the way for the long-awaited kiss to happen, but when it did, the show moved forward to tell their love story.

Otalia – Olivia Spencer and Natalia Rivera Aitoro – Guiding Light

When Crystal Chappell (Olivia) and Jessica Leccia (Natalia) began to play the love story of Otalia, they had to show their affection by a kiss on the head, or holding hands.  It took quite some time for GL to move forward to have two women, two moms, no less, share a lip lock. The complicated love story featured Natalia being conflicted to face her true romantic feelings for Olivia, because of her value system and religions upbringing, and that made this all the more riveting and frustrating at the same time.  In the end, the rabid fan base for this duo was so great that Chappell wound up creating her own series, Venice, to honor and serve them, remaining one of the LGBTQ communities greatest allies.

Kish – Kyle Lewis and Oliver Fish – One Life to Live

In 2009, One Life to Live’s Kyle Lewis (Brett Claywell) was an out lab tech in Llanview, who back in college had a relationship with Officer Oliver Fish (Scott Evans).  It imploded when Oliver denied he was gay.  For years, Oliver remained in the closet, before finally coming out to himself and Kyle.

Kish had been a big success with the media and One Life’s gay audience. LGBTQ-advocacy groups honored the couple and the story.  However, Kish was cut short when the network felt that the data showed that the storyline was not resonating with the show’s core audience.

WilSon – Will Horton and Sonny Kiriakis – Days of our Lives

Days of our Lives delivered daytime’s first-ever gay male wedding in 2014, between Will (then played by Guy Wilson) and Sonny (then played by Freddie Smith).

In an interview with EW, Days of our Lives executive producer, Ken Corday shared on the union, “Will and Sonny have been together for a while and it was the natural progression of their love story. We didn’t feel like there was anything we could or couldn’t do, we treated them like any other couple on the canvas and continued to grow their romance as such.”

In addition, the coming out story of Will Horton was critically praised and noteworthy for the performances of Chandler Massey, who won three Daytime Emmys for his work in the Outstanding Younger Actor category 2012, 2013 and 2014.  Freddie Smith also won in the same category in 2015.  Will has been played over the years by Chandler Massey and Guy Wilson, while Sonny has been portrayed by Freddie Smith and Zach Tinker.

There have been several other key LGBTQ couples throughout the course of daytime history including All My Children’s Bianca (Eden Riegel) and Reese (Tamara Braun). These two characters were involved in the first same-sex lesbian wedding on daytime. Problem was … Reese kissed Zach (Thorsten Kaye) before the wedding, making this infuriating for viewers at home.

Other notable LGBTQ couples through the years have included: Bianca and Maggie on All My Children, Mariah and Tessa of The Young and the Restless played bv Camryn Grimes and Cait Fairbanks, Maya and Rick on The Bold and the Beautiful, Lucas and Brad on General Hospital and others.

Which couple do you think has had the most lasting impact on the history of LGBTQ representation on daytime soap operas? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

DAYS and GH Alum Tyler Christopher Arrested for Public Intoxication

Daytime Emmy-winner, Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas, GH; ex-Stefan, DAYS) was arrested for public intoxication at the Burbank, California airport, this past Friday, on May 26th.

According to the Burbank PD and reports obtained by TMZ, Tyler was arrested after they found him asleep and on the ground at the American Airlines terminal.  The officers noted that Tyler displayed clear and objective signs of drinking.  They also reveal he was unable to care of himself.

Christopher, who remains a fan favorite as the former Nikolas Cassadine on GH and Stefan DiMera on DAYS has opened up and discussed his battle with alcoholism in the past.  Last year, he appeared on former GH co-star Maurice Benard’s You Tube series, State of Mind.

Tyler was released from police custody following his airport arrest, cited, and will need to appear in court at a later date.

Back in 2019, the popular actor was cited for two counts of misdemeanor public intoxication and landed in jail for two days, following an arrest in Indiana.

Peter Porte, Miranda Wilson and Colton Little Tease Dimitri’s Love Interest, Who’s the Daddy & The Future of Andrew & Paul

Following recent revelations on Days of our Lives, which include that Dimitri Von Leushner (Peter Porte) is the biological son of Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson), thus making him a DiMera, Megan moving back into the DiMera mansion after her prison term, and Andrew (Colton Little) being kidnapped, the performers who take on these roles chatted with Michael Fairman on Friday during a livestream conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.

Courtesy/Peacock

During the live chat a myriad of subjects and upcoming story teases came up including: if there might be the love interest for Dimitri. Peter Porte shared, “Yes, there certainly will be. There will be two. One, out of perhaps, we’ll say necessity, and one out of heart’s desire.”  As to if ‘said’ relationship will show Dimitri’s obsessive side, Porte expressed: “I think he goes through a full journey of emotions. I don’t think he fully reaches obsession. I would say he reaches a level of extreme devotion.”  When Porte found out who the character would be that Dimitri seemingly falls for, the actor said, “I was certainly surprised.”

When we posed the question to the DAYS fans in the live chat, as to who they think will be Dimitri’s love interest or interests, guesses ranged from Gwen (Emily O’Brien) to Sloan (Jessica Serfaty) to Leo (Greg Rikaart). Could any, or two, of those be right?

Miranda Wilson and Porte weighed-in on the mother/son bond and troublemaking duo of Megan and Dimitri.  Wilson shared: “I think it’s fair to say that Dimitri is a grown man and probably has his own mustache twisting to be doing without Megan to be involved.  I just think that what is going to be coming up now is a beautiful relationship between the two.”  Porte followed with, “At the heart of it, Dimitri would do anything for his mother, anything.”

Photo: Peacock

Another mystery on DAYS fans minds is just who is the bio-dad of Dimitri? Is it someone on the canvas? Someone from the past? Porte previewed, “He certainly has a name and a title, but I don’t know if we’ve met him yet.” Wilson added, “I don’t believe he has been on the show.”

Many DAYS fans are also hoping that there be will be more to the burgeoning love story of Andrew and Paul (Christopher Sean). Colton revealed, “I have a real-life love and affinity for Christoper Sean, because he is just a ball of light and energy and a good human. I don’t think my success on the show would be anything if he hadn’t taken me under his wing and showed me the ropes. So much kudos and love to him. Getting to play opposite of someone like that as a love interest, is a treat and a joy. I think it’s really sweet, a lot of it is happening off-screen. I know the fans have expressed they want to see it on-screen.”  However, Little teased, ‘There is some good stuff coming up with Andrew and Paul. Stay tuned.”

Photo: NBC

When Miranda Wilson first appeared on Days of our Lives, it was back in 1984 as Megan was revealed to be the daughter of Stefano DiMera, played by the late, great Joseph Mascolo.  This week, Megan made her way back to the DiMera mansion and Miranda weighed-in on her relationship with her late on-screen father, and more. “Joe was a very dear friend,” she detailed. “When we worked together in the past, he was truly a father figure for me. DAYS was my first professional job in Los Angeles. The fact that Joe was there for me and we worked together so frequently, and he had a lot of time for me, meant the world to me. So, it was bittersweet being back (in the DiMera mansion), and him not being there. It still touches me, but at the same time, the character of Megan has her edge and she doesn’t let this show. As the actress, there was a lot of tenderness, that the character didn’t necessarily display. The whole ‘being back’ thing was amazing.”

Courtesy/Peacock

You can watch the entire livestream featuring Peter, Miranda and Colton below.  The talented trio also chat on working with Steve Burton (Harris, DAYS) and Colton’s opportunity to work with the one and only Dick Van Dyke who is making a guest appearance this fall on the soap.

Now weigh-in: Who do you think will be the love interest or interests for Dimitri? Who do you think will turn out to be Dimitri’s father? Are you hoping for more Andrew and Paul? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section.
