The ratings fight is on between CBS’ newest entry into the daytime arena, Beyond the Gates, and longtime soap mainstay, General Hospital. The two shows go head to head in most time zones with some exceptions.

It is often very hard to get a new primetime or daytime show to find its audience, and to keep viewers coming back, but so far things are looking good for the first new soap opera to launch on network television in over 25 years with the ratings report for the week of March 3-7, 2025 via Soap Opera Network.

While Beyond the Gates took a slight dip in total viewers with 1.74 million tuning in (down 70,000 from the previous week) it was still way up over the same time slot last year which was held by The Talk, in fact BTG was up 516,000 viewers from the canceled series.  Conversely, General Hospital came in with total viewers averaging 1,882,000 for the week; which was slightly up by + 30,000.

However, where Beyond the Gates held strong was in its key demos. It beat GH in women 18-49 rating with a 0.24 share, while the ABC daytime drama series came in at a 0.21 share, still up from the previous week by +.02. For the key women 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates held at a 0.39 rating share versus General Hospital with 0.33. However, GH was up +.05.

It also should be noted that Beyond the Gates, Monday, March 3rd episode, which followed their first cliffhanger Friday; where Dani (Karla Mosley) fired shots at Bill (Timon Kyle Durrett) and Hayley’s (Marquita Goings) wedding, received a larger audience than the series premiere a week earlier among Women 25-54.

The daytime drama ratings champ continues to be CBS’ The Young and the Restless whose total viewers for the week came in at 3,033,000, which was down -147,000 from the previous week. However, its closest competitor, sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, continued to be in second place with 2,617,000 total viewers only slightly down from the previous week by 22,000.

So, what do you think of the ratings performance of ‘Beyond the Gates’ after the airing of its second full week of episodes? Let us know if you are enjoying the show more than or less than ‘General Hospital,’ if you do indeed watch both soaps. But first, check out the latest promo from CBS where TV critics are heralding BTG as the “soapiest” soap of them all!

Love Beyond the Gates,…my favorite is y&r. I enjoy watching both!

I couldn’t get past the first episode. What’s the point of the whole show. So disappointing!

Evidently you haven’t heard BTG is doing slightly better than GH in the ratings. You think you can speak for others when you should only speak for yourself. Apparently folks are watching the show.

The article literally just said GH’s ratings are higher, though Gates has a bit of a lead in two key demos. And get over yourself; people are allowed to say they don’t like the show without you jumping all over them.

I love beyond The Gates. The actors are great. The show is good entertainment. The clothes are fabulous. Danni steals the show.

Rainy…I (also) love Beyond The Gates. Oh…and my 2 favorite characters on the show are Dani and Dani’s BFF Pamela. But…one thing about the show that I do not like…Dani’s ex-husband Bill. To me, he looks and seems so stiff, rigid and lifeless. Through the years, I’ve seen zombies and walking dead characters in horror movies act with more pizazz and feeling than that Bill dude. LOL Just saying.

ikr, but since then it has garnered my interest except for mother, daddy abandoned daughter part.

same here!!

I love Beyond the Gates, I record it every day
So when I get home from work I watch it.

Maintaining is fantastic, especially for a new soap. Hoping this trend continues or even improves; May Sweeps should be fun!

I am so happy there’s another soap opera on the air! It has a fantastic cast and I’ really pulling for it. I watched the first week and will continue watching via Paramount+. However, GH is and always will be, my soap.

I know the comparisons between BTG and GH will go on for some time, with people slamming every victory BTG has as something bad toward GH. I won’t be hearing that. ALL of our soaps deserve big audiences and much respect. A lot of hard work goes into all of them. They all serve health and great ratings.

Totally agree!

I love the show its giving fabulous fashion and the hair is right on point the drama is spectacular love love it.

After months and months barrage of publicity, ads, interviews and articles, BTG is last in the ratings and can’t even beat borefest GH. Why can’t people just accept the fact that nobody watches soaps anymore.

Shut up troll!

Except it’s beating General Hospital in demos, and for a new soap to match up to a 62-year-old soap’s ratings? That’s a success. Take your negative and bring it somewhere else for once.

No it’s not, lol. I think the fact that GH is doing slightly better for a 62-year-old soap is more impressive! People still watching it after decades; coming back for more. New viewers turning in. And stop telling people how to feel. You do it to me all the time and now you’re doing it to someone else. And then there’s the gem who told that person to “shut up.” Some of you are insane.

Would be nice if you watched a soap prior to posting that no one watches soaps anymore… oh right.. you think you are everyone! Not!

Beyond the gates is not last in the ratings, especially in KEY DEMO’S! Key demo’s is what keeps programs on the air!! GH needs to step up their game, with better storylines and writing!!

Speak for yourself, Idiot!

I had stop watching all soaps, even though I thought I would never stop watching Y/R (watch it since the first day it aired I’m 70 yrs now) my second best was B/B. I stopped watching them both about 30 years ago. I recently started watching BTG and I’m very interested in it, time will tell if I stick with it. Love the actors some I’ve seen on other shows. Great to see more than 2 or 3 people of color on a soap in a luxury setting.

I predict that Beyond the Gates will get GH cancelled (or moved exclusively to Hulu or Disney+) within 1 year if Frank (“…enstein”) Valentini and the head writers aren’t replaced very soon. GH is a raging dumpster fire with never-ending abysmal, retread storylines. New leadership and a new vision are desperately needed! If ABC/Disney execs truly still care about and are fully committed to GH, then wake up already! Listen to the fans desperately trying to talk some sense into you for once, make some damn changes and improve the on-air product!

Bravo to CBS/NAACP/P&G for breathing some badly needed fresh air into the daytme drama genre!

Wrong. There is no way GH will be cancelled because of, Beyond the Gates. There are very few cast members on Beyond The Gates that can act. Horrible show.

And GH is putting such a wonderful product on the air right now?? Just because the show has been on for 62 years, TPTB shouldn’t be held accountable?? Are you an ABC/Disney exec or related to Valentini?

Wish they just play their show and stop competing. First things first. Beyond the gates will Never top GH …. Poor acting. Seems like a fake show.
Watched Y&R repeat from 1981 and acting topped beyond the gates by a landslide.
Do your show and stop trying to be better than the others. In my opinion you’ll never measure up! Sorry not sorry

Agree GH is great

I don’t like the way dani is making a fool of herself over that snake face man.and also what that girl and her mama is doing to dani,s sister and her husband

No way anything show will even come close to GH Dream on wishful thinking
Obviously your a person in the cast of BTG
Your show doesn’t even come close to GH

GH such and had sucked for a long time. These horrible actors your commenting on have been on between shows and soaps so their acting can’t be too bad (law and order being one). GH is sad and I watched it for 30yrs. When Sam, the Quartermains, & Luke & Laura, etc… left it got worse. The whole show is based on the mob. Time to switch up that stuff is old. Whoever said what is the point of BTG. To see a soap not the Goodfellas. That’s what movie time and Netflix is for. Lol

It’s finally good to see an majority black soap opera .Strong beautiful black family..and the drama is refreshing not same Ole storyline..

Who didn’t know race was gonna come into this? I’m white and watch all the soaps. Black cast, white cast, gay cast, straight cast. Why does it have to be about black or white? The soap has a good story line so far, love Dani, remember her from b&b and she was awesome on there too. Recognize people for their talent, not the pigment of their skin.

Why is it that everytime.black people want to acknowledge our achievements or give each other props, someone not black has to come along and bash them. They are entitled to their opinion just like everyone else. All they said is it is nice to see, which it is.

I agree Bettie! I have watched all the soaps over the years. I must say I am closely watching BTG. I love the whole cast. I am 66 years old and thought I would never see a black soap on TV. I will aggressively support the whole cast in being successful. I enjoy watching Dani and her antics. Makes me lmao. I love it. It’s fun to watch. I watched her on B&B. Glad she left to stretch her wings. I love everyone on the show! I’m very proud!!

I watch BTG however I thought it was over dramatized the first week. Cluffhanger wasnt even good .

Well every soap that has been on thus far has had how many black families as the leading family? The answer is none. Olivia, Drucilla, Malcolm, Neal on Y&R, were all written off but they were not leading characters of the Newman or Abbott family. Carter, Paris and Zoe on B&B, within 3 mths, his love interests are written off, Carter was left to sleep with non black women. Come on, it’s LA, plenty of black women but no, he’s left to fall for Quinn, Hope and Katie, why? Unfortunately it does come down to culture and color if you want to get more viewership on these shows. Some viewers would like to try to relate to the characters they are watching and that can’t happen if everyone isn’t represented.

You forgot Lily ,Devon,Nate and Damian and Holden.Elena and Devon s wife Amanda
Lily Devon and Nate are leading characters and so now.are Damian The Winters have always been a major family in Genoa City
And Neal was not written off the Kristoff died. Some characters may have been written off but not all Shemar Moore left because he was offered another job but still loved Y&R.❤️

Well we no what kind of person you are just by the comment. She never played a race card she just expressed it’s nice to see people that look like ourselves on a shiw but you had to take it there. Funny things is it’s always nice to hear a speech about when a LGBT wins an award, it a Hispanic being the 1st recipient of an award, or a Muslim, etc…. but us darker folks better not say it’s nice to see someone that looks like us to watch. That showed nothing but hate on your end because she criticized no one. That tells the type of person you are and I hope none of your friends ( – I’m sure their not) are other races of nationality bcuz I’m sure you no what you are.

Well said! There’s always somebody that has an issue with us being proud of an accomplishment. When you’re the one that’s always represented it’s hard to empathize with someone else’s glee over them being represented as well.

Amen, I agree

I agree and I enjoy it very much

I agree to live and let live

The show is great live and let live. I dont watch GH nor do I watch TYAR I watch what catches my eye for entertainment I am not putting the other shows down. I like what I like its a shame everyone wants to make like it’s a competition among the soaps you watch what you like and let others watch what they without speaking negative about either of the shows .

I watch it regularly. I was through with soap operas in the 90’s when I was an undergraduate. Beyond the Gates has brought me back to watching daytime drama.

Beyond the Gates is new so I’m still trying to learn each character but I’m a long time and loyal fan of General Hospital. I just love the show and the characters!

Decided to give it a try, so far I love all the drama, I believe as long as it holds my interest I am now a fan. I am 74 years old and a long time fan of GH for decades. The other two soaps mentioned I am also a fan of and thankful I can record all these programs and watch at my convenience too!

I have watched General Hospital for many many years. I also watch the Bold & Beautiful.
All My Children was Always my Fav.I Was so disappointed when it went off the air.
I watch The Young & The Restless as well. I would never stop watching any of these 3 for the new BTG, I’ve watched a few episodes but so far can’t get into it really.

Beyond the Gates will never get GH cancelled with 1.7M viewers. Expect GH will need to revamp the writing team again and replace Frank Valentini soon to get back to over 2M viewers. Hopefully both CBS and ABC have learned a lesson to not cancel soaps for stupid shows like the former The Talk and The Chew.

I loved BTG, they’re so elegant and graceful especially the mother she’s fabulous. Overall I love the show its getting more and more interesting keep it up. I do watch GH and Y&R and they’re all good in their lines

BTG is awful..Cheap and fake looking sets…Wigs, weaves and clothing look cheap and gaudy…Acting is horrendous….They all look and act like clowns…

Thank God for giving people this thing called “opinion”.

I enjoy watching it, the fashion and homes are amazing, so different from the other soaps with those old fashion clothes and homes

Love this new show

The new soap is terrible. The actress that is suppose to be the main caracter, (Dani), is just awful. Most of the actors need acting lessons. I would never, never trade GH for such crap.

BETTER ACTING THAN THE SUPER MARKET TROLL YOUR WORKING ON TO BE

Oh Linda Keep it classy. She’s actually right, among many more commenting. Cast could use acting classes and you could use charm school lol

charm school ! Good one ! Thanks for the laugh. Cast definitely needs acting lessons on how to take it down a notch ! There’s a saying in Hollywood ” STOP chewing the scenery”

I love GH and while frustrated, I remain loyal to my characters. Sadly I’m not in the demographic age range which is stupid since my generation was always a part of soap operas. Hello networks, I’m not invisible. Count me in.

GH fans love each character. Has Bec our family

Will always be a family member of General Hospital ❤️ 1963 with my Grandma Maybell Arnold

Me as well, starting at about age five with my grandmother have watched for almost six decades.

So far it has my attention. Can’t stand Bill or Sharon/Sherry. Will keep my attention if there is not too much in the bed scenes.

I’m fortunate to go Beyond the Gates and be transferred to General Hospital. Our time zone allows that. About time for a new Soap, especially focused on Diversity! ️‍ Unfortunately, I can no longer see DAYS of Our Lives, due to difficulties with Peacock.

I love this new soap Beyond the gates. It is definitely becoming my favorite.

Time slot “competition” matters exponentially less than it did 20 years ago. And, BTG does not air in the same time slot in 6 out of the top 10 largest media markets in the US.

It’s not a question of GH vs BTG. In an era of streaming and digital recording, both can survive.

To those who say Frank must go – don’t get your hopes up. He prevented this show from being cancelled 13 years ago and continues to be a budget master while having the quickest tape to air window in daytime.

OG Steve , thanks for info on Frank. Didn’t know he saved GH! Now I appreciate him. Always happy that it wasn’t cancelled when my other favorites OLTL & AMC where . My fav was OLTL . Now my fav is GH.

I’m enjoying Beyond the Gates a lot. It tops General Hospital hands down. I love Beyond the Gates. Big thumbs up!

Since when do we have to listen to music that’s so loud you can’t hear the actors talking!!!!
I hate this!

I agree! Love the soaps that do NOT play the music so loud . B&B is one of them. Also GH. Y&R ‘s music is way to loud

Sorry on GH

BTG is pretty good!! I like it better than general hospital and the young and the restless!! I hope btg stays!!

Love it ..beyond the gates

General hospitals still the best!

Beyond the Gates is stereotypically a soap. Nothing new in the relationships or scripts. I don’t understand the competition between the new and the old (GH)… They are not airing opposite each other. No reason to think one will cause the demise of the other…

Except, they [are] airing against each other in a lot of regions; here, they both air at 2 p.m. ET.

I’m liking Beyond the Gates so far. I think it will surpass B&B in time. Ask us again in a couple months. Right now I’m still learning all the characters.

DON’T LIKE IT!

So surprised, judging by your name.

GH is always going to be my soap
For 50 years!

That’s why, you been watching it for 50 years!

Beyond the Gates (BTG) has everything to keep my TV on CBS from 12:30 to 3:00pm each weekday. BTG could tone down using Black slang so often, but otherwise, “it is all good.”

BTG could tone down using Black slang so often

Does it, though? It’s a refreshing change.

I love being at the gate. I hope it stays around for a long long time. I do not watch General Hospital. I used to, but I stopped a while back. I am very into beyond the gate.

I love Beyond the Gates. I haven’t missed an episode! I make sure to DVR if I’m not able to watch. Add me to your demographic of fans as a middle age white chick!! Keep the episodes coming!

i love both soap GH and beyond the gate there need t too be different time

I’m at work during it’s regular air time, but I watch it and Y&R every evening.
I love it’s cast!

I am so happy to see the new soap opera Beyond the Gates. I have been watching Y&R and The Bold and the Beautiful for years. I needed something new.

Amen! Same old gang with the same old round robbin! They shouldn’t taken off the B&B

I use to watch General Hospital for a bit after the Talk was cancelled. Now, I am enjoying Beyond the Gates and trying to learn all of the characters! I find that BTG is a welcome change to the Bold & Beautiful is really starting to become real boring because of the same storyline with Stephy, Liam and Hope etc.I am going to continue to watch BTG until it is no longer exciting. I do watch The Young and Restless everyday because it still holds my interest unlike the B&B.

Never even knew there was a new show lol

I’M TRYING TO GET INTO BYTG BUT THE ACTING IS SO POOR EVEN WITH THE SEASONED ACTORS, N ACTRESSES THAT’S UP THERE THEY’RE NOT DOING A GOOD JOB .SOMETHING IS MISSING.
HAILEY NEEDS PARENTS, PLAYED BY NIA LONG,& LARENZ TATE.
THE WHOLE CAST NEEDS TO REVAMPED.

Haha, no it doesn’t. And it’s Hayley, not “Hailey”. And neither of those actors need to be cast. At all.

You can’t compare beyond the gates to general hospital. That show has been on tv forever. Give beyond the gates a chance

Love the new show

I’m watching for the experience of seeing a soap opera from its first episode. I grew up on amc/oltl. Been watching gh since the others were cancelled. I really want to like it, but disappointed with the acting. I find it over dramatic (even for a soap). The lead makes over exaggerated faces, it’s painful to watch. I am hoping more legacy soap actors will join. I only started watching because of addition of Cady and Jon.

YES! To the overexagerated faces

Beyond The Gates is awesome! I love it, I tune in everyday.

I haven’t watched soap operas in a very, very long time so beyond the gates I am all in 100%. I love all the action all the backstabbing all the drama. It is so good to see a new side to how much drama there can be. there’s a lot of different stories going on and all of them have drama in them so this is my drama.

I am not a soaps watcher, but, I wanted to try Beyond The Gates because most of the cast are black actors. I love a good story, and that’s just what they have. Being a new show, it hit the floor running. They have my full undivided attention so far.

I simply record both and watch them later! I like the new one. Having a hard time remembering who is who and how they all intertwine. I wish the opening credits listing their name and character name!

Btw is not bad it reminds me of sunset beach a little but it’s a baby right can’t go against a grandma

I love this show never wacth the general hospital.keep up the good work.

Watched the first Beyond The Gates and that was enough…..disappointed

I am throughly Loving Beyond the gates. Some characters I recognize from other soaps and shows. I only see bigger and better things to come.

By

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.

ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.

Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.
