GENERAL HOSPITAL: Valentin is Back in Port Charles; Is it to Kill Jack Brennan or to Stop Being a Fugitive?
GH’s Cliffhanger Friday brought with it the shocking final moment when Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) resurfaced in Port Charles, and not just anywhere in PC, but in the hallway of his nemesis Jack Brennan’s (Chris McKenna) hotel room where Brennan just hit the sheets with Carly Spencer (Laura Wright).
Earlier in the episode, Charlotte (his daughter with Lulu Spencer) was reunited with her brother Rocco (Finn Carr), and her grandmother Laura (Genie Francis) in touching scenes. While still missing her “Papa,” everyone is telling Charlotte being with her family and not on the run with Valentin, is the best situation for her. Lulu (Alexa Havins) also tells Charlotte (Scarlett Fernandez) it had to be lonely out there, just her and her “Papa,” so they need to make up for that.
Carly finally let her guard down and explained her hesitations in getting more romantically involved with Jack, but at the end of the day, she cannot fight her attraction to the guy, and after months of dancing around it (first, with actor Charles Mesure in the role and now Chris McKenna) they finally moved their relationship to the next level.

Sonny (Maurice Benard) admitted to Kristina (Kate Mansi) he has a heart condition and needs surgery, which is one of the reasons he is letting Ava (Maura West) have joint custody of Avery, because he does not want to see his two daughters dragged through the mud in a court battle. With Kristina always wanting vengeance on Ava, what will she do with this intel on her dad?
Meanwhile, a trouble Portia (Brook Kerr), who’s medical career can be blown to smithereens by Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison) talks with Ava who recommended Ric Lansing as a lawyer for her. Ava says Drew has many enemies, and it won’t be long before one of them takes care of him for her. Portia hopes someone does something soon!

So, with Valentin now lurking around, where do you see the story going next? Will Valentin try to get a “word” with Jack Brennan to help him no longer have to be on the run for his crimes all relating back to the convoluted plot of the Pikeman Arms deal they were both involved in, or do you think Valentin will try to choke him out or attempt to kill him again as he did in Europe? Are you hoping that this means James Patrick Stuart is back on a more permanent basis on GH? Share your theories in the comment section. But first, check out the moment when Carly visits Jack and apologizes for her behavior and the two wind up closer than ever.
Hoping it’s a driveby and never to return again. We were finally rid of Valentin and his mistake of an offspring, and we did not need either deadweight back on an overpacked canvas.
I feel the same way. Can’t stand Valentin and his brat, who will cause lots of trouble, especially if Jack succeeds in knocking him off. I’m afraid Anna will get there in time to save his lousy ass.
My vote is for him to stop being a fugitive. There is plenty of good stories the writers could come up with all the characters in place now. I liked his romantic side we saw of him with Anna, so if not with her, someone else.
I agree he is talented actor and he and Anna made a great couple storylines are interesting when they write for these two
I agree 7
It makes zero sense that Val would go to all the trouble of arranging Charlotte’s plane ride home with Anna & Jason, only to show up in Port Charles again himself the same eternally damned day.
And just when we thought Carly was done with NuBrennan, eh not so much apparently. Of course that will change again when she finds out what he’s done to her kid. Or possibly two of her kids, since we still don’t know who bombed Sonny’s penthouse and BBQ’d poor Mikey.
Kristina needs her own story that doesn’t involve her obsessing over Ava. When did she become so cloying and domineering when it comes to her father and Avery? I detest this character so much that I find myself fast forwarding as soon as I see that face which is perpetually twisted into a mask of hate. And I used to like Kristina! As far as Portia is concerned, it makes zero sense that she’s keeping Drew’s blackmailing tactics secret when Curtis already knows she switched Heather’s test results.
As for Kristina, I’d rather see a trip to the back burner for a while as they focus on Molly. Maxie and Felicia need storylines as well to get out of the “talk to character” roles.
I love the actress who plays Molly. She has fleshed Molly out to be a kind, complex and interesting person. There’s real character development transpiring there that you don’t see with Kristina.
I totally agree with you Harry! Kristina needs a life, she’s not her brothers keeper, or in this case, father and sisters. i’d also like to F.F her right out another window!
Ha ha! If only we could do that, Violet. The other day Kristina tried to interfere with Ava and Sonny’s custody’s arrangement by insisting she take Avery to the ballet during Ava’s court ordered time. Seems she should be taking Scout, who recently lost her mother, Kristina’s sister, to the ballet. This just shows you that Kristina doesn’t give a damn about her nieces but just cares about sticking it to Ava. What an insidious little creep.
Right you are either give Christina a story that make sense or get rid of her her focus on Eva is getting boring
You need to write a solid storyline for Val. He needs to become a hero over Jenz and take back the Casadine home. Lots of good stuff to work with here. He needs to blackmail Brennan knowing about Joss turning into a WFB agent and continue to be a tender dad to Charlotte. Get Sonny healthy and develop a real storyline for Christina. . When you decide to announce Monica’s death, she needs to leave everything to Jason and he and Sasha need to fall in love and build a life. They are a good match and would be a nice storyline to follow. Drew needs to be compromised and caught by Michael and sent back to prison. Willow needs to mature into a strong business personality and become a little more like Tracy. Tracy is amazing..let her shine
I do wish when Valentin is a surprise in the episode (this is the 2nd time in recent weeks/months) that JPS’ face wouldn’t be shown in the opening credits. As a recurring actor, he’s only shown if on. And in 2 cases, it was supposed to be a surprise that was ruined by showing his face in the opening
Excellent point Jeff – I noticed that as well. I’m sure many viewers noticed that as well and were expecting him to turn up.
Hope this will be the end for Valentin Cassadine. He’s a despicable criminal. James Patrick Stuart is a fine actor who is doing his job very well. That character turns my stomach and I can see no redemption for his actions.
I love seeing Chris McKenna but I don’t see a positive future for Brennan and Carly once she learns about him recruiting Josslyn into the spy world.
Kristina needs to tone down her perpetual anger. Losing a child so horribly is devastating but it’s time for Kristina to try to accept what’s happened and make a life for herself. Bring back Blaze or get her a new love interest.
That filthy snake Drew need to get the axe. The sooner the better.
JPS is bringing some heat
I really want JPS back however I am not quite sure how they can redeem him enough that he can stay on the canvas – I hope they can find a way!!
Valentine better be back for an exiting story line
Love that Valentin is back but u hope they don’t completely make him bad. His redemption arc and relationship with Anna was top notch writing and gifted acting. Be nice to see him get off the hook and turn the tables and help solve some mysteries about the was pikeman and expose it
Who will die he or Brennan? Hoping for Brennan. Love JPS

‘General Hospital’ Alum Jonathan Jackson Shares Emotional Tribute to His ‘Nashville’ Leading Lady Hayden Panettiere

The entertainment world has been mourning the loss of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36. Panettiere, who was so familiar to daytime drama fans in the roles of a very young Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live and Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light, also starred as an adult in the primetime music city soap opera, Nashville as country and western singer, Juliette Barnes.
Panettiere’s leading man in the series, was none other than six-time Daytime Emmy-winner, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky Spencer, General Hospital) who played musician Avery Barkley.
The actress’ death is still under investigation in Greenville, South Carolina, now calling in the DEA after the Greenville County Coroner’s Office said there was “no signs of trauma that were discovered that would have contributed to the death.” Hayden’s body was released to her family on Tuesday, August. 18. It is believed Panettiere died of an “overdose.”

WE GREW UP IN THE INDUSTRY
Jonathan Jackson took to his Instagram on Wednesday night, August 19 to share poignant words in remembrance of his Nashville co-star. “I have no words to express the loss of our beloved Hayden,” began Jackson. “She had such a bright light within her. She was a sensitive soul. Incredibly funny and witty. Amazingly gifted, with a great sense of empathy and compassion. We both grew up in the industry, although she started even younger than me, but we shared that. A silent knowing of how intense the struggles can be.”
Panetierre started in show business in 1990 at only 11-months-old, while Jackson was cast on General Hospital in 1993 as Luke (Anthony Geary) and Lauras’s (Genie Francis) son, Lucky when he was 11-years-old. Jonathan drew on the parallels in their lives for his remembrance to his late former co-star.
“She was an absolute joy to work with. Focused, spontaneous and brilliant,” continued Jackson. “The most important thing between friends and coworkers is trust, and we had this. Elisa (formerly, Lisa Vultaggio) and I both love and cherish her deeply, like our own sister. She holds that place in our hearts. My prayer for her every day we worked together was that she would know how loved she is, and that she would find the peace that she was looking for.”
WE LOVE YOU, HAYDEN
Sadly, Jonathan concluded with, “It’s not possible to express the shock and grief that so many of us feel right now. Our humble prayers are with her family. May God’s angels carry you to your place of rest and true peace. We love you Hayden. You will always be in our hearts. Always.”
Nashville ran for four seasons from 2012-2016 on ABC, and then moved to CMT for its final two seasons from 2016-2018. The actors on the show could also sing and like Jackson, Hayden had a powerful singing voice that was showcased in the series as well as her undeniable acting chops.
Michael Fairman TV previously shared more of Panettiere’s Guiding Light and Nashville co-star tributes here.
So, what did you think of Jonathan Jackson’s very touching tribute to Hayden Panettiere? Did you love them as Juliette and Avery on Nashville? What have you thought about the ongoing investigation into Hayden’s death? Share your thoughts via the comment section.

BRYAN CRAIG’S MEMORABLE RUN AS MORGAN CORINTHOS
Since leaving General Hospital, Craig’s other roles have included: ABC’s Grand Hotel and Freeform’s Good Trouble, along with appearances in Valor, Walker and American Fighter to name but a few.
Bryan appeared on General Hospital for his initial run as Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Carly’s (Laura Wright) son from 2013-2016. His journey ended when Morgan was presumed dead after a car bomb killed him that was meant for Sonny. Craig later returned for appearances as Morgan in different iterations in 2018 and 2024. Craig won back-to-back Daytime Emmy Awards in the former Outstanding Younger Actor category in 2016 and 2017.
It was back in 2016, that Craig told Soap Opera Digest on his decision to exit General Hospital: “It’s been an amazing journey, but I feel like the time is right for me to say goodbye to General Hospital and Morgan Corinthos. This was not an easy decision and I am extremely grateful to ABC, Frank Valentini, and the entire GH cast and crew for the opportunity and their unyielding support. To the wonderful fans who have embraced and loved Morgan as one of their own, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.”
So, glad to hear of Bryan’s casting in The Weapon? Are you still holding onto hope that GH will bring back a very much alive Morgan Corinthos that could shake-up the canvas? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.
As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.
Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.
Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).
He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

SECOND STOP, SALEM
Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”
Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”
DEVLIN’S WIG
The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions
“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.
JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN
The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”
As he ended his recap, Oliver thanked both soaps for playing along, and noting that neither DAYS or GH actually killed him off! Could a John Oliver return happen down the line? Stay tuned.
Watch John detail his soap dreams come to life on General Hospital and then Days of our Lives below.
Now let us know, what did you think of the performances of John Oliver on General Hospital and Days of our Lives? Did you prefer one over the other or enjoy both of his guest arc visits? Could you see Oliver nominated in the Guest Performer category at next year’s Daytime Emmys, even for a 3-episode run on one of the soaps? Let us know in the comment section.
