Denise Alexander Returns to General Hospital

Photo: JPI

Look who’s coming back to Port Charles! Now that Laura (Genie Francis) is delving into her past after realizing she has two half-brothers (Cyrus and Martin) she never knew she had, look for her mother and longtime GH favorite, Denise Alexander to return to her signature role as Lesley Webber.

Denise last reprised her role of Lesley back in 2019 and had visited a few other times in 2017 and 2013.  Laura’s mom  was first on the daytime scene back in 1973 and Alexander played the role till 1984.  She was recurring from 1996-2009.

Will Lesley have ammo on Gordon Gray to help Laura bring down Cyrus?  Soap Opera Digest reported the nwws.

No word yet on Alexander’s first airdate, but stay tuned.

Excited that now Lesley will be back on GH and part of the story with Laura? Comment below.

Best casting news to start the new year!

While in town, Lesley needs to give a smack down to Nikolas for faking his death (they were always close). She also must have some witty repartee with Monica. Hopefully they give her some lines to indicate she’s been in frequent contact with Lucky since both are supposed to be in Europe.

Will they further dive into the David Hamilton murder, or is that subplot being dropped?

At 81, Denise deserves kudos for braving the Covid protocols to return right now.

Well of course she’s back. It would be impossible to tell this “ancient history” back story of Gordon Gray being Laura’s father without Lesley’s input. I don’t expect Cyrus the Virus to treat her very well, obviously. Probably will blame her for whatever his daddy did.

I’m SO glad! I’d stopped watching years ago but I was a devout GH fan as a kid and into the 90’s when Laura and Luke returned. I don’t know who these men are but it’s good to see Michael E. Knight. It’s difficult to understand where the characters I like are, but for Denise I’ll definitely tune back in!

This excites me. I hope they do it justice. Denise Alexander as Lesley has always been my favorite character on GH.

Great to see Dr. Lesley Webber returning to GH! Hope she makes it over to the Quartermaines for a run-in (or two) with Monica Q!

Ok everyone, I haven’t watched it in years, but have decided to join in again as I’m retired and have the time, but I haven’t been able to find it. I do not have cable. What station is it on?

Will look forward to her return. I’m going to guess that she’ll be in peril from Cyrus since he blames Laura for his own mother’s kidnapping.

It would be wonderful for Leslie, Monica and Audrey to have some scenes together!

Denise Alexander may have gained some years, now at 81 but she sure hasn’t lost any of her acting abilities. She’s still as sharp as ever. I don’t remember her having such a good sense of humour but she was incredible with Cyrus. That tiny woman going toe to toe with this big man was a treat for sure with Laura looking on so afraid for her mom.

She is as beautiful as ever, noticed her speech is giving her some issues. Is her disease progressing?

General Hospital and ‘H.R. Pufnstuf’s’ Billie Hayes Dead at 96

She was one-of-a-kind, and now actress Billie Hayes has passed away at the age of 96.  Hayes’ family announced her death from natural causes on April 29th at Cedar-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles.

Hayes was best-known for her unforgettable role as Witchiepoo on the 1969-70 Saturday morning live-action children’s classic H.R. Pufnstuf from Sid and Marty Kroft.

However, daytime fans will remember that then General Hospital executive producer, Gloria Monty, hired Hayes to play the recurring role of the street-smart international spy, Brighton O’Reilly, back in the 80’s series hey day.

GH’s Tristan Rogers (Robert Scorpio) took to Twitter to mourn the loss of Hayes on Monday sharing; “My dear wonderful Billie Hayes has died. Sadly I only got to work with her on GH but it was a magical relationship. Right away Gloria Monty saw something unique and ran with it. I cannot tell you how her passing saddens me.”

In story, Brighton O’Reilly was shot and killed by Victor Cassadine back in 1981. Billie told Soap Opera Digest back in 2003 about her time as an agent on GH, and her exit from the series: “I asked Gloria why she killed me off, and Gloria said, ‘To tell you the truth, Billie, we really hemmed and hawed at it. But I decided to do it for selfish reasons. I knew if I killed O’Reilly there’d be such an abundance of sympathy and love for Scorpio that his stock would go up. And he’s my new leading man!’ I understand why Gloria knocked me off, but I would have loved to have gone on with it because I feel it could have been developed into a fascinating character.”

Sid and Marty Kroft also took to Twitter and expressed:  “Margaret Hamilton (Wizard of Oz) once told us that Billie Hayes was “one of the best witches ever” We couldn’t agree more. Rest in Peace dear friend.”

Billie’s career spanned decades including Broadway, television, motion pictures and voice-over work. In addition, she founded the Los Angeles-based animal rescue nonprofit organization Pet Hope, a cause she had championed since adopting a puppy abandoned in the basement of Broadway’s St. James Theatre during the run of Lil’ Abner in which she was featured in the role of Mammy Yokum.
