Looks like the baby drama on The Young and the Restless is about to become even more convoluted with this bit of casting news!  Actress Devon Martinez, the daughter of Days of our Lives star A Martinez (Eduardo), is coming to Genoa City in the role of Shawn Taylor, a young pregnant woman who is looking for the ideal parents to adopt her child. ”

And it looks like Shawn is considering Sage (Kelly Sullivan) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) as possible parents to her unborn child.    Martinez, who is a recent graduate from the Yale School of Drama, will hit the airwaves on the March 1st episode of the CBS sudser.

In an interview with TV Insider, Devon previewed:  “She’s considering Nick and Sage but she’s talking to other couples, as well, and still trying to make up her mind. She’s, like, ‘Who are these people? What is this town like? How is everyone connected?’  It’s been fun studying the back stories. Everyone, including Nick and Sage, has been through so much! But, despite their circumstances, what are their core values? It’s been fascinating to play a woman in Shawn’s position and getting to the heart of what really matters where you’re looking to give up your child.”

In terms of working with Joshua Morrow and Kelly Sullivan, Devon offered up:  “They’re such great actors. I did my final callback audition with Josh and it made all the difference. I’m really honored to be in their company. And I’m really happy to be working with executive producer Jill Phelps. My dad has a great history with her.

So,  what do you think about this latest twist in the Nick and Sage baby drama?  Are you excited to see A Martinez’ daughter on daytime?  Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Edge Of Night did some of the best adoption stories…Martha Marceau adpoted a baby through the black market…the mob wanted her husband Bill Marceau to step down as chief-of-police. or loose the child..then Taffy the baby’s birth mother got the baby back…Martha distraught went to Taffy wanting the child, sees a gun and shoots Taffy…Martha goes on trial for Taffy’s murder…Martha is shown a photo of Taffys body…Martha remembers Taffy wearing curlers when she shot her but Taffy isnt wearing them in the photo…its proven the mob was responsible…they had staged Taffys murder to frame Martha and to get Bill to step down as chief-of-police…there were blanks in the gun when Martha shot Taffy and after she left the apartment the mob came to Taffy’s apartment(she was working for them) and murdered Taffy making Martha and others believe she was responsible for the heinous crime.

EON…..surely puts GH….to SHAME!!!
……oh the good old days…..

i sooooo agree…if only writers today could write like Henry Sleazer…Edge’s writer for over a decade!

Most of the stories in the 60s to 70s was daytime at its best…sometimes i would pretend to be sick so i could stay home from school and lay on the couch to catch up on my soaps-mom would bring me my lunch without me leaving the couch-lol…those definatly were the good old days.

Jim, I hate to admit, but I remember that story! Teri Keane and Mari Gorman were excellent . Didn’t you just hate Taffy? Nobody did crime and courtroom drama like Edge!

Henry Sleazer was the greatest courtroom and mystery writer…wish all those episodes survived the wiping process, especially the haunted house eps., the keith/Jonah serial murder storyline, the Orin Hillayer stories and Nicole storyline from the late 60s when two women wanted her dead-one murdered the other and Nicole was blamed for the crime…so many great moments in daytime history gone forever!

I agree–what suspense–beginning with that voice stetching out “The E-d-g-e of Night”–and that music. Great!

Jimh…..when rec’d email on comment. …first thought was…bet it’s from ..Jimh.
Your reminisce of soaps of years ago, brings back to the GOOD OLD OF SOAPS….60-70’s.
HS of EON….great story teller;kept you tuning in EVERY DAY!!!
3:30p.m.

What a WONDERFUL storyline that was, Jim! I really enjoyed EON and remember that story as if it happened yesterday. Remember Morlock Sevingy being the true killer! Also remember this being the first programme where I ever saw the beautiful, late actress Dixie Carter as Olivia Brandise (Brandy) Henderson! How I miss those wonderful days! X

I couldn’t remember Morlock’s name to save my life-thanks for reminding me…i think Morlock was also the guy who was going to shoot Johnny Dallas but by mistake killed Vic Lamont-Lauri’s first husband…yes, Dixie Carter was wonderful as Brandy and Micheal Stroka who was earlier on Dark Shadows appeared as her psychiatrist brother Quentin Henderson on Edge…what a wonderful crime/mystery drama that was!

Loved that storyline. EON was great drama.

I miss that show…i miss when daytime had more variety in its lineup…now its mostly talk.

WOW! She looks so young! I am looking forward to this since it will bring lots of drama to Y&R! Can’t wait to see her in the role.

It doesn’t sound like this story will serve Y&R. She just shows up in town, hey, who wants to adopt my kid? Usually, people decide they want to adopt, then look for a baby. It’s a long process, but I know Y&R will shorten it.

Hi Mo,
I was thinking the same thing. Sounds like a ridiculous and stupid s/l.

the woman from the adoption agency told nick & sage yesterday that they were at the top of the list…………………y&r has already shortened it

Great! She is indirectly a FOJ. Imagine that!

She looks so sweet–didn’t know A. had a daughter that had graduated Yale.

She really is pretty. She reminds me of a younger Kelly Clarkson. Interesting plot point. The decision to adopt is sort of sudden, I think.

Very sudden. I guess the home study took place off screen. I don’t know that an adoption agency, a creditable one, would want to place a child with a couple who had very recently lost a child. The couple needs to process that grief first, which Sage very clearly has not.

@Mo.
You bet, Mo. Normally I would say ok, ….after losing a child, it is too soon; not enough time to have grieved. I lost a child myself, so, the pain is everlasting. Forever…you grieve differently, but the sense of something missing in your life never goes away.
However, in Sage’s case, her motherly instincts are kicking in. She senses something she cannot explain. She has no clue Christian did not die…but she feels his aura…his presence.
Ergo, the dreams. …just my two-cents worth. Later.

Enough with all the Newman babies! In another few years this show is going to have the same problem GH is having where all the young characters are related and have no one to date.

The Young And The Newman’s…maybe Victor will eat them…some animals do eat their young…lol

Lol. How true that is! And, you crack me up, Alan.

They can always change the title to ‘The Young and the Incestuous.’

Yup, 4ever. That could also be said of GH, considering all of Sonny’s offspring running around.

Are you getting any ideas about Chelsea and Jack, 4ever? I hope this was just a friendly, comforting hug, we witnessed between them. Jack’s already old enough to be Phyllis’s father. Chelsea is even younger. Who’s next? Summer?
Billy and Phyllis make more sense to me.

She looks like her Dad, lucky girl. I wish her well in her tv debut.

This can only end well for Nick and Sage–NOT. She will either become obsessed with Nick or want the baby back or the father of the kid shows up and either wants the kid or wants to shake down the Newman Family for big bucks– adoptions are never simple in soaps—speaking of kids, why has Victoria forgotten her other son, Reed? When she talks about her cozy family with Billy she never includes him in the picture. And Phyllis doesn’t mentioned Daniel or her granddaughter Lucy.

Mary SF… Since I’ve only been watching Y&R a couple of years, you made me realize how much catch-up I have.

You describe it to the letter, Mary. This marriage is doomed, which is the standard on soaps.
I had almost forgotten about Reed. My gosh, she never talks about him…..why is he with his father, again?
I have also said the same thing about Chelsea several times. How does she go on living without Johnny. Seeing him here and there is not the same thing. How do you not want to be with your child, worry about him, tuck him in bed, read to him…..I know it’s a soap.
It’s weird how none of these mothers try not to get custody back. Considering Victor’s international power, surprising Reed is not with his mother. Bye.

JT filed for full custody when Victoria was arrested for the murder of Adam and he got it. When Vicky was cleared she tried to regained custody, but Victor’s attempt to help her win her case backfired when it was proven the Newman’s were behind attempting to make JT miss the court date. Later before JT and Mac decided to move to Washington, Vicky tired again to regain custody, but her life was a mess and JT said if she tried she would lose because he was the more stable reliable parent, so she agreed to let Reed move to Washington. So she did try, and for a while they mentioned him, but it has been a while, a character can only do what the writers write, so the fault are writers that like to create the babies, then pretend they don’t exist until about the age of ten, then poof, they are SORAS to seventeen overnight—so yeah it would be nice if children on soaps were written like real children and not merely as props when it suits the story line.

Thank you for the history, Mary. I remember it clearly now….sometimes, I forget certain details. Yet, other times, I can remember scenes when I was still very young, watching soaps with my Gran. Lol.

Yeah…I mentioned Daniel in a different context, though, Mary. Daniel is now in his late twenties, early thirties? This is one of the reasons I keep saying Gina Tognoni is all wrong as Phyllis….many more reasons, as well. The writers would have to change a lot of the history for Daniel to come back.
No way could Phyllis, as we now know her, could possibly be mother to a 30-year old.
What kind of grandmother does not crave a visit from her grandchild?

Daniel was born in 1994, so the character should only be 22, but the character was SORAS in 2004 to 16, which now makes him 28– it is a bit of stretch for Phyllis since Billy Abbott originally was born in 1993, which would make him only a year older than her son. Billy was SORAS in 99 to 16, which now puts him in his thirties, but long time viewers know how old he should be, which is too young for Phyllis or Victoria– LOL

I think she is going to be just great–love the idea and love the potential.

Perhaps someone ought to fill the young lady in on what it’s REALLY LIKE to work with/work for that JIll Farren Phelps woman.

Just saying……….

Quick correction: ‘Jill’ and not ‘JIll’.

My bad.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
