NBC had come calling from across the sea for Downton Abbey’s creator, Julian Fellowes.  The mastermind of the hit British soap, which has just got its fourth season renewal, has been tapped by the peacock network to write and produce a new epic drama called The Gilded Age.

According to EW.com, NBC describes The Gilded Age as an “epic tale of the princes of the American Renaissance, and the vast fortunes they made — and spent — in late 19th-century New York. ”  In a statement on his new gig Fellowes revealed, “This was a vivid time with dizzying, brilliant ascents and calamitous falls, of record-breaking ostentation and savage rivalry …  a time when money was king.”

The third season of Downton Abbey will begin airing on January 6th in the U.S. and American fans cannot wait for the drama to unfold.  So soapers, would that The Gilded Age be a drama you might check out if it’s from the talented Fellowes? Let us know!

Yet another soap centering on only white people bec it’s a period piece. Great. This is how hollywood preserves the white establishment and suppresses the presence of racial minorities. They’ll say that they need to keep the cast all white bec of realism. Does hollywood need yet another soap abt white people when every soap already centers around rich families that are white?! Yet hollywood has no problem whitewashing Asian characters from films like “The Last Airbender” and “Dragon Ball Z Evolution” and “All You need is Kill” and “21” w/c are horrid examples of white privilege. Asian storylines have to be told from white people’s perspectives while soap operas have to center around white families. How are Asian americans going to have more roles when all soaps are for white actors only while white actors get Asian roles! hollywood loves to preserve institutionalized racism. Majority of americans voted for Obama yet hollywood thinks it’ll collapse if they employ Asian americans as lead actors and actresses!

The highly-anticipated and rumored revival of Downton Abbey to the big screen is on!  Production is slated to begin later this summer.

From what we understand, all of the original cast is set to reprise their signature roles in the motion picture, written by series creator Julian Fellowes.

Fellowes will also serve as the executive producer along with other ‘Downton’ notables behind the scenes: Gareth Neame, Liz Trubridge, and Nigel Marchant. Brian Percival is set to direct.  Percival also directed the pilot episode of the critically-acclaimed and beloved period soap opera series.

In a statement, Gareth Neame expressed: “When the television series drew to a close it was our dream to bring the millions of global fans a movie and now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production.  Julian’s script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival’s hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen.”

Focus Features chairman, Peter Kujawski, shared: “Since the series ended, fans of Downton have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter. We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of Downton to the big screen.”

Downton Abbey ran for six seasons on PBS  and received 15 Primetime Emmy awards and 69 nominations.

Actress Joanne Froggatt, who plays maid Anna Bates, took to Twitter with much enthusiasm at the news: “Delighted to announce we’re getting the band back together! #DowntonMovie #DowntonAbbey”
