Another celebrity death in the news this Memorial Day weekend. Original ABC Dynasty cast member, Bo Hopkins (Ex-Matthew Blaisdel), has passed away at 80-years-old.

The news came from Hopkins wife of 33-years, Sian, who shared his death for the first time with The Hollywood Reporter.

From the report, Hopkins actually passed away three weeks ago on May 9th after suffering a heart attack at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys.

On Dynasty, Bo Hopkins, Linda Evans (Krystle) and Pamela Bellwood (Claudia) had one of the long-running stories, since Krystle and Matthew begun an affair after Claudia had a mental breakdown. Blake would always see Matthew as his adversary.  Hopkins played the recurring role from 1981-1987.

In addition, Hopkins had a long and accomplished motion picture and television career with notable highlights including his roles in the films: American Graffiti, The Wild Bunch, Midnight Express and White Lightning, and on television on: The Rockford Files, Barnaby Jones, Charlie’s Angels, Fantasy Island, The A-Team, Scarecrow and Mrs. King, and Murder, She Wrote and more.

Bo’s final film appearance would be in 2020’s in Hillbilly Elegy, directed by Ron Howard, who he worked with decades ago on American Graffiti.

Hopkins is survived by his children, Matthew and Jane.

As some had suspected, with ailing ratings and virtually no promotion, the CW’s reboot of Dynasty has been canceled.  The primetime soap will end at the end of its current fifth season, meaning no season six as die-hard fans and the cast and crew had hoped for.

Dynasty has been a soap on steroids, with snappy dialog, over-the-top storylines, and some wonderful performances especially from series lead, Elizabeth Gillies (Fallon).  Elizabeth tweeted upon the news of the cancellation: “SO PROUD OF MY BEAUTIFUL DYNASTY FAMILY!!”

According to Deadline, the show had been kept in production partly because of the revenue it generated with its deal with Netflix.

The cast includes: Daniella Alonso as Cristal Carrington, Elaine Hendrix as Alexis Carrington Colby, Rafael de la Fuente as Sammy Jo Jones, Sam Underwood as Adam Carrington, Michael Michele as Dominique Deveraux, Robert Christopher Riley as Michael Culhane, Sam Adegoke as Jeff Colby, Maddison Brown as Kirby Anders, Adam Huber as Liam Ridley, Eliza Bennett as Amanda Carrington and Grant Show as Blake Carrington.

CW’s Dynasty was the reboot of the classic 80’s ABC primetime version, which aired from 1981-1989, with a modern twist to several of the characters and stories.

CW’s Dynasty is beefing up its cast with the news that Pej Vahdat has been cast in the role of “Dex”.

As Dynasty fans know, the character of Dex Dexter was originally played in 1983 through1989 by the late Michael Nader in the ABC version of the primetime soap opera.

Now in the 2022 version, Vahdat’s Dex is said to be a ‘suave, handsome, charming hedge fund manager.’  According to Deadline, Dex has a chance encounter with Alexis (Elaine Hendrix) which will change her life in more ways than one.

Joan Collins, the original Alexis Carrington and Michael Nader made quite the on-screen pair on the original Dynasty.

If Vahdat looks familiar you may have seen him on: Showtime’s City on a Hill,  FX’s The Old Man, and recurring roles on Empire, The Village, Bones and Shameless. 

The role of Dex is said to be “heavily recurring”.  No word yet on when he will first be seen in the role. Stay tuned.
